One of my best Guerlain’s after shalimar and Habit Rouge EDT/EDP, no as complex IMO as Habit Rouge and a pungent opening for my nose, but the draydown is georgeous. For me similar to Chanel Antaeus (more subtle) which is in my buy list (not anymore). I have a winner, it worth it as a signature for those that want a classic and masculine perfume.

Over the years, Heritage is the only fragrance that I consistently look forward to using on a regular basis. It is a satisfying fragrance, not cloying and mysterious. It is really for me the best fragrance. But to be honest, even if I have a hundred or so different fragrances, I do not have any that cost 100’s of dollars per 100ml, so I can not compare Heritage to the really expensive EDPs.

Well SHIT ! I had an entire story typed and almost finished and then my internet app on my phone decided to Close and it’s gone.
Probably for the better, lol. Long story short I was in Vegas at the Guerlain boutique and sprayed about 6 fragrances all over my wrist and arms and feel in love with one of them, thought that I knew which one or was but had it wrong and bought the one that beleive it or not was the scrubber, like worst fragrance I’ve ever sprayed surprisingly. I am NOT manly or advanced enough in this fragrance journey to get past that sweaty pissy fecal smell of Derby. But Heritage I found out later was the one I fell in love with. Only problem is that they only had a tester of the Heritage EDT not the EDP. LUCKILY the lady at the store was kind enough to let me at least Exchange it for same value, so ended up getting 2 bottles of HHeitage and I made the mistake of choosing the EDP without smelling it, thinking that it would be a longer lasting but still similar smelling version of the EDT. WELL, I learned once again that that isnt always the case…
Dont get me wrong I like the EDP version but it’s definitely much deeper and smells more dense, I think what I liked so much about the EDT was that it was just a perfect blend of slightly sweet, slightly spicy from the cinnamon, lightly floral but just perfectly balanced the whole time, but it all leads to the most perfect subtle yet supple leather finish. For me being in my mid 30’s the EDT seemed more wearable and just more to my style. The EDP is still very nice bit it because of the extra depth it does feel a little more “mature” is the only way I can put it really. Maybe it has less of a leather component on the drydown and a touch more of the cinnamon and some civet or castoreum, and a touch more of the floral aspect all with more of a woody base in my opinion.
So long story still kind of long, I am keeping one bottle of the EDP but I still have 1 more sealed bottle if anyone would be interested in trading for the EDT version let me know…
Cheers !

Absolute masterpiece! My favorite Guerlain fragrance. People calling this dated just don’t understand so-called “dated” fragrances are still in production for a reason. They have a history with the wearer. Like a good friend, it makes your days brighter, more memorable, and interesting for you and those around you.
Heritage is a true oriental fragrance and perfectly blended with over a dozen notes. It’s warm & comforting, spicy, slightly smoky and always interesting hour after hour, from the strong top notes that ignites your senses all the way to the luscious drydown.
It’s one of those unique fragrances only suitable for a true gentlemen, a man of impeccable taste, nicely dressed with an aurora of class and timeliness. It’s not a crowd pleaser by any means, and thus, not everyone can pull off wearing such a distinctive scent. And that’s what makes it so special for the lovers of Heritage across the globe. EDT is excellent as well. But EDP is a work of art. After all, its YOUR Heritage.

EDP: 2017
A formidable fragrance that’s got wood from birth.
The opening is almost an assault on the senses to the unwitting nose, with a whack to the face by a piece of 2 x 4 primordial forest heartwood, harvested from wood forest located on wood island, cut on the national woodland holiday.
It’s almost phenolic, tarry-fir-balsamic pungency is all at once sharp and smooth, dusty and glossy, dry and damp. For my nose, it (the openening) really takes some getting used to as this isn’t a fragrance one can just spritz on before dashing out the door. It’s a forest you have to sit in for a long time and yield to it before you can begin to take any of it in, let alone come to terms with it.
The Gladatorial opening has an equally lingering mid-central epoch, with smatterings of grabbed handfuls of herb being spanked against the mightiest trunks of ancient forest for hours before the beginnings of a dry down. But Jimminy Crickets! That dry down is what this fragrance is all about for me.
Out of this self contained creation myth fumes the most remarkable and emotive sandal-amber-musk accord that, on it’s own, could end international conflict.Or start one.
What really grabs me about this is that it’s a 2017 bottle (the new packaging/top). no matter how much the original formulas get adjusted, the classic Guerlain’s seem to adapt to the new breeding while retaining an inner strength and meltingly soft emotional longing that is a very rare thing to encounter in this frighteningly challenging world today.

Guerlain’s greatest masculine and in the running for their best overall work. Lacks but does not miss the sparkly champagne and lavender opening of the edt. It benefits from it if anything. Dusty patchouli, florals, and spices on a guerlinade base. Jean Paul Guerlain is a racist, but he is a brilliant Perfumer. This is so perfect it moves me to tears. Balanced, dry and sweet. Works great in summer heat and winter cold. This, not Habit Rouge, is the masculine Shalimar. Luca Turin is wrong, Heritage deserves 5 stars, Derby deserves 4.100/100.
sofjak73 – :
This is one of my favorites among the style of traditional, masculine woody orientals. Heritage features a fairly complex blend of spices, woods, and aromatics, and as a result comes across as an interesting and engaging scent. There’s an excellent sandalwood accord present here, paired with a dry, earthy-mineralic patchouli and it seems to serve as Heritage’s backbone, around which you’ll find various embellishments. There’s the resinous comfort of amber in its base, which adds depth and fullness; a prickly, aromatic accent along its edges, lead by pepper and oakmoss; and some pleasantly musky funk, slightly warm and animalic, and possibly rooted in coriander, as its dominant smell that accompanies this particular musk. What results is a mature, woody masculine that is both comforting and elegant, alluring and composed. While Heritage would certainly be appropriate to wear with a Tux, dressed up, it’s perhaps even better when worn with a flannel, a relaxing warm blend that’s perfect company on a lazy weekend. It’s this reposed aspect of comforting warmth that I enjoy most about it, and which I find is just a bit more abundant in the EDP as opposed to the EDT. While Heritage may have lost a little bit of its charm over the course of various reformulations (which fragrance hasn’t?), the current EDP is still very nice, and as long as I’m not wearing it side by side with an older iteration, I barely notice a difference and enjoy it just the same. While I was originally concerned about how the juice in the new style of Guerlain bottles would smell, I have to say that I think they’ve done an excellent job with them. If any reformulations have occurred (and they most likely have), they’re very well done. I was impressed by both new bottles of Vetiver and L’Instant. Heritage EDP has certainly not disappointed either. Thumbs up. 8.5/10

Definitely try before you buy. The EDT was powdery on my skin, but the EDP was pure incense. My roommate was into it, but it was not for me. Not a blind buy unless you are very versatile. A good fragrance but not for everyone.

Unique aroma, one of Gerlen’s best perfumes. It develops extremely beautiful and is very durable! More than 12 hours! I love this fragrance!

Has just the right blend of everything I like in an old school fragrance without being overpowering.

I brought this in the Summer and found it intoxicating and just beautiful, but found the longevity just above average so it never really found it’s way into daily wear. I broke it out of storage today on a whim (January) and its like its performance is completely different. I sprayed it before work at around 8am and it lasted well into the late afternoon on my skin and late evening on my clothes. I can only assume the cold weather really gave it a boost.
So what’s it like? Well a few reviews describe it as complex and intoxicating and this is a perfect description. It pounds away with this intense sweet-spicy smooth vibe that’s been blended soooo well. The EDT has much more of a rough feel and it’s more “punchy” and sharp compared to the EDP which is smooth and slightly more subtle.
For a 1992 fragrance it’s aged very well, in fact it still smells unique today and I’m not come across any 90’s fragrance with a similar makeup so it isn’t easy to date as “old” at all. This suggests to me that it could be a timeless scent and has a place in 2018 without issue or complaint. However I would recommend a sample test before buying a full bottle (which by the way I think is good value for a juice of this quality) as its uniqueness will polarise people one way or another.

I bought the eau de toilette version in the mid 90s when I was very young. I gave it away to my dad because it was “too formal” for me. Now, being 45 years old, and after watching a great review of Emitsu (Simply put scents), I decided to try it again. I noticed that an eau de parfum was available, so I went for it.
This is really a masterpiece, Guerlain at its best. Great longevity, an unique and powerful scent.
I understand why it has one of the best rates in this page, totally justified.
One of the best scents I have in my collection.
DjekS – :
Wearing this scent is like watching an old James Bond movie. It’s amusing once in a while, but I don’t think I’d want to do it every day of the week.
This scent smells like 1992. Things have moved on since then.
I don’t dislike it, but I don’t actually like it much either. Fragrantica should have a “Meh” button for this sort of situation.
ras12008 – :
Heritage, a word meaning of passing down from one to another. a lineage, a tradition. This fragrance is just that. Now that it has been around for a quarter century itself, it really rings true.
Heritage has a classic Guerlain trademark scent to it that i pick up in other scents like habit rouge dress code. It’s a classy scent, preferrably for night but can be worn in some daytime events. Has a warm spicy scent that screams colder weather days but has a lot of versatility to it. It’s classy. Just like Guerlain. Timeless. Just like Guerlain. This is a classic. absolutely love it.
Great longevity. Great projection. It’s warming, soft, and inviting. like making love on a bear skin rug by the fireplace kinda warm, soft and inviting.
highly recommended.

In the late 90’s, I wore the EDT, followed by the EDP when that ran out. It was my only fragrance at the time, and it was an arcane spell that resonated in my life and loves of the time. I recently purchased a bottle of the EDT out of nostalgia, but must confess that, as a now middle-aged man, it makes me feel self-conscious. May this elixir live to work its magic for individualistic men younger than I, paired with a vintage designer suit. For poets and magicians.

I love Guerlain as a house but I just can’t get on with this.
I agree with jackwins review below, this is very dusty an dirty and I just don’t feel comfortable in it. In its defence, it does get softer and more wearable as it dries down, but the intense opening just kills it for me.
I find it incredibly heavy and dark (and I love Encre Noire which is supposedly the Prince of Darkness). It Feels like I’ve walked in a dark dusty room (or “Grandmas Church” as said below)
If I wanted a Guerlain scent of this type, L’Instant is far more wearable imho!
rozavk – :
I blind bought Guerlain’s Heritage EDP based on reviews and I should not have. It smells like a church. I get tons of incense, wood and spice. Its thick and cloying. Even my kids said I smell like “Grandma’s church”. This will go back in the box and sit in the back of the collection. Highly disappointed 🙁
Lord_Lider – :
I first had Heritage with the EDT. It is lovely, but I was blown away when I tried the EDP. It is just richer and a bit more elegant. It is not in your face though, just classy and overall a gentleman’s scent. True luxury. I had trouble finding it, but I’m glad I did! This is signature scent worthy stuff!
sada1985 – :
Heritage EDP has a lot of notes listed but in the current version can be divided into a few main accords. Top notes are an aldehydic lavender with citrus hints. Heart is a spicy Patchouli and the base is a creamy sandalwood with amber and musk on the side. This has been around for a while and obviously been reformulated over the years but however you cut it, is still a great fragrance.
This is strictly a Gentleman’s fragrance, exudes quiet refinement. So works in all those occasions when you dont want your fragrance to scream out loud- office, business meetings, Job Interviews, you get the drift. Projection is personal space mostly and longevity is a good 6-7 hours. Like all Guerlains, the quality of ingredients and the blending of notes is top notch. Another frag it reminds me of, not in smell but “feel” is it’s contemporary, Egoiste by Chanel. In some ways they represent a bygone era, in other ways, they are timeless because Class is timeless.
UNLOCKER – :
Heritage. A wonderful fragrance. This is elegance in a bottle. A fragrance for well dressed gentlemen with style and manners. The EDP version is more thick, compact, and dense. It also has a rugged “animalic” note (civet?) that the EDT is missing. The EDT is more powdery, “airy”, and transparent. I find the EDT to be the most elegant of the two, though the longevity is shorter than the EDP. I have both in my collection and love them equally, but I prefer the EDT by a tiny small margin.
elb222Unlogrere – :
This is an outstanding masculine oriental with Fougere accents. The opening is classic. Lots of fresh lavender and spices. The heart is handsome and radiant and the drydown musky and vanillic. I highly recommend this fragrance in eau de parfum form. I have not tried the eau de toilette so I cannot compare. I really feel confident and handsome when I wear this fragrance. Sillage is great for a few hours and the longevity is excellent.

Heritage… Classic Guerlain… a Stunner!
A masculine very refined presence (classic Guerlain ) that thankfully is all 4 season appropriate for me. I wear the EDT or the EDP daily in a professional luxury business environment. They are extremely similar but I find the EDP longevity to 8hrs & the EDT about 6. The EDP having a bit more rounder softer notes and a tad more projection, however neither is a screamer.
Has a similar wearability to Jaipur which I really enjoy wearing in quiet romantic times. So this is a welcome addition. The compliments are few with Heritage, however I do notice the women seem to perk up and hover a closer… a little longer when they catch a faint whiff.
I’ll take that over a complement any day!

Very simular to Lalique Pour Homme… Both are great fragrances… I am going to do A side buy side test..and see which comes out on top.

Smooth Operator…
This is a perfume which has a special place for me. As soon as you spray it you really get a feel for all things Guerlain related. I get Jicky, I get Shalimar, I get Habit Rouge. All in one fragrance!
I have the Eau de Toilette of this (which I adore). But this is a little different in character. It has a very deep tonka bean and coumarin-like note to my nose. It really reminds me of Jicky in that way. Something sweet and borderline animalic at the same time. I do like this perfume very much. More regal and austere than the Eau de Toilette. Even if I prefer that version over this one.
I would recommend it to men who like to dress well. People with an immaculate sense of style, who present themselves in a slightly formal yet stylish way. It’s a winner for me, in terms of value for money, but I already have my favourite version. This is worth every penny though. Extremely well made juice in my opinion.

Old school, wonderful. It appears there are a lot of different elements to it, but they are so wonderfully blended into a coherent whole, I don’t think anything stands out particularly other than perhaps lavender in the beginning. This is a warm and inviting scent, very classy and masculine. I’ll be wearing this one often. 5/5 for the scent. 4/5 for sillage.

Amazing, retro scent, makes me think of the first flights over the Andes carrying mail and then over the Atlantic Ocean – gone but not forgotten… Definitely not for everybody.
shdv1 – :
I love this EDP. It’s become the closet thing I have to a signature scent. The lavender in the opening is there, without being too much, just a bit of freshness to balance the spices; the woods soon begin to emerge in the midnotes along with what I perceive as a touch of Guerlain’s signature vanilla; eventually the fragrance dries down to a soft amber. A very elegant, evolving men’s fragrance that I can comfortably wear year-round.
I find the EDP softer but richer and smoother than the EDT. Musk, which I’m not crazy about, is more noticable in the EDT (earlier version) that I also have and wear.
njusik1107 – :
This one seems smoother than the EdT (I’ve only tried vintage EdTs over the years), but is otherwise the same scent, it seems, though the composition seems “tighter.” Projection seems a bit weaker too, though still acceptable. I’m not getting anything that would justify owning both EdT and EdP but if there are major developments I’ll update this review.
alleks411 – :
I used to love Heritage EDT in the 90’s but now it is just too strong for me, although, a very nice scent for men. By looking at the pyramid I guess the EDP is just as wonderful. It’s a pity my original bottle is half full yet.
Yes, for a flash of a second I too think I can smell Hetirage in the opening of L’Instant. This effect is even more pronouced in LIDGE. Tha happens a lot with Guerlain scents, one always seems to refer to others in the Guerlain family.
Kariel – :
Love the way it smells , pleasure folded in sandalwood , woody , sweet and soothing , absolutely mesmerizing, a scent for very special occasions only , i also find some similarities with L’Instant Guerlain which is a favorite… a must have for every perfume lover. Its a Gentleman’s fragrance.
Thanks Fragrantica for adding this gem to your database.
