I recently acquired Polo with its assertive piney aura and was trying to recall if it is similar to Halston 101.
If any one remembers Halston 101, or even has it now, and can directly relate its smell to Polo, I would appreciate it.
Halston 101 is legendary to me; I recall once sampling it around 25 years ago, and remember how wonderful it was.
Is Polo close?

The Forest by Library of Flowers DOES NOT come close to this scent….not even a fraternal twin…I wish they would bring this sent back. I found the after shave in a thrift store for $8.00 ( US currency)…I see a bottle on Ebay..$500.00.

Halston 101 is one of my family’s all time favorites. I bought a bottle for my father when he was alive, and it became his signature. My brother liked it so much he appropriated “The Halston” whenever he could sneak it. I bought many bottles, and they were used by all of us to the last drop. It wasn’t easy to find a bottle of it in those days. The stores around my house aren’t upscale enough to carry it, and I would have to drive to surrounding areas to see if it was available. But we all loved H 101, so it was worth the effort.
Then Halston discontinued 101, and it became impossible to find. We kept the last empty bottle for years. Recently, I tried a new perfume, The Forest, by Library of Flowers. It smells really, really close to Halston 101. Halston’s fresh woodsy scent with that dash of cedar, spice and florals. The Forest, although not exact, really brought back the memories. Halston 101 is a truly gorgeous perfume, and a family icon. We all miss it!
P.S. ranchorita – thank you! Read where The Des Vignes reminded you of Halston 101 and I got a sample to try. It did me too! Just needs a touch of strong Virginia cedar!

I highly recommend Halston 101 for a classic woodsy and just a little spicy fragrance for that discriminating (read “picky”) man in your life. It is some times difficult to find, but I believe it’s well worth the trouble! It has overtones of soft and lingering cedar and other “woody” and spicy components like amber. It has been a favorite of mine ever since it was created around 1983. It makes me feel very “special” with its somewhat comforting quality and its ability to “carry you” into your day. It’s available here on this site. This was one of the first fragrances I really fell in love with and one I still miss terribly. I can only hope Arden will bring it back to us all and give the younger fragrance lovers a chance to experience its allure.

I bought Ikon by Zihr, and it is nice, but not at all like Halston 101. If Elizabeth Arden has the rights to 101, it’s a crime not to re-introduce this greatest of the greats!!! I still have half a small bottle, which I use on the rarest of occasions, and it still has the magic. Would love to stock up!

I loved this fragrance in my early adulthood. Sadly, it was far more admirable than the gentleman who wore it, but I found the scent tremendously appealing.
UPDATE – trying fragrances at Sephora in Dallas yesterday, I came across the lovely The Des Vignes by Caudalie which has some combination of accords which is spectacularly evocative of Halston 101, in all the best ways. Side by side comparison might not stand up, but there is something VERY similar about the two. TDV is marketed to women, but I think it would be safe for a man to try. It’s much lighter than Halston 101, but at least there is the satisfaction of the reminiscence. Next day, I can still smell the Caudalie on the back of my hand, and it still evokes the loveliest qualities of Halston101.

This is a great one, very pleasant and makes you feel good. Elizabeth Arden could easily bring this back especially considering how well they have done with 1-12 and Z-14.
