Description

Gucci launches its new perfume Gucci Bamboo in spring 2015, named after the already existing collection of accessories. The fragrance apparently reflects confidence and femininity. It is designed for modern women of character that is multifaceted; the fragrance is intense, graceful and gentle at the same time.

The composition is floral – woody. It opens with citrusy accords of bergamot leading to the exotic floral heart of ylang-ylang, Casablanca lily and orange blossom. Intense notes of sandalwood, Tahitian vanilla and amber form the base.

The face of the perfume is actress Gal Gadot. The bottle design blends delicate sensibility with strong lines. Glass art deco bottle in the shape of a diamond is contrasting with soft pink liquid. Polished silver cap gives the Bamboo signature.

The fragrance is available as 50 and 75 ml Eau de Parfum with body lotion, shower gel and deodorant.

This is a review based on my 16 year old daughter’s experience. She adores this scent and will constantly say ” OMG I smell sooo gooood!” She also thinks she smells expensive while wearing this one. It’s a very nice light, airy floral on her.

This is not a perfume that I would normally check out, based on brand, name, or bottle.
Received a sample and decided to test. Pleasantly surprised…a light floral, unique, wearable. To me, the sandalwood is most prominent.
    A potential purchase.

A very nice, inoffensive scent. Would be suitable for royalty or for a bride who doesn’t wish to overwhelm anyone. I find it really beautiful during spring-summer, when it has somewhat of a bubblegum smell on my skin. Not much projection, but good longevity. I like it a lot, it’s a great perfume to wear on those days your nose seems overwhelmed by every other perfume you have.

It’s funny how things change, sometimes even fragrances on our skin. I blind bought this when this first came out and did not care for this. So it sat. I was in Kohls tonight and for whatever reason, I decided to test this. As I walked out the door, I got a soft clean sunny type, white floral. It was Bamboo! I so need to break out my bottle again. This is now soft on me, not the woodiness I picked up when I first bought this..Fingers crossed, anyway, that the bottle I have will perform the same now for me as the tester!! Perhaps my bottle was in the sun too long somehow prior to making it’s way to me (my fumes are in a cool temp room with room darkening drapes). Anyway, wanted to review this one again, as it, it is now lovely..it used to be for me a Fall type of scent, I used to pick up woodiness and not much else; now it is a lovely soft clean sunny white floral, perfect for Spring/Summer. Funny how things can change!! ❤️

It took me a while to buy a bottle, as it didn’t have the best reviews on here, when it first came out, plus I already knew Gucci aren’t the most long lasting of perfumes. But I was really drawn to it and never missed a chance to have sniff whenever I was out shopping. So I got it and even though it is not a love it is definitely a very strong like for me. I don’t find it that strong or light, I would say moderate but gentle and beautiful. I wear it when I don’t know what to wear. I think its perfect for day wear, inoffensive but not without character. It does have a certain “just out of the shower” freshness, which I like and I find it very feminine even if somewhat tame. It doesn’t last all day on me, maybe becoming a skin scent after a couple of hours, but I don’t really mind with this one. I am happy I got a bottle in the end.

The opening of this is strong – I wouldn’t wear this one to work. It softens about an hour later, but is still strong, especially the lily note, which is a bit too jarring for me.
However, I would say, on the right person, this fragrance Would be very elegant.
Nice, but not full bottle worthy for me, personally.

Comment only based on final notes after 5 hours.
-Smells fresh and metallic e.g. hamster shampoo with zinc

I really love this one. A very soft and elegant citrusy floral with a rich woody base. I love the mild spiciness that the bergamot and lily provide. I’ve been pretty impressed with some of Gucci’s offerings the last few years. I think Bamboo and Bloom are both outstanding.

Are the notes listed here even correct? I imagine that one of the notes should, ideally, be bamboo. I smell its sharpness in this fragrance. It comes across similarly to the sharp smell of lotus. This fragrance was linear with little sillage on me. It did not even last 3 hours. I have yet to find a Gucci fragrance that stands out to me.

Fresh smell, light, unobtrusive. Suitable for daily use. Very disappointed – quite unstable. Always used the perfume of this brand, everything suited, but with the purchase of this toilet water, the love for this brand has gone

Never wanted to even try this really. But I received a generous sample in a swap. So I took a whiff and it smelled like something very intimate to me. I was a bit shocked, expecting it to be green, vibrant, even healthy smelling! So I sprayed it on and it wasn’t long before it WAS what I expected. Only far more impressive! I really like this. I wouldn’t hesitate to purchase or trade for a bottle now. Samples sure can come in handy! And still, every time I wear it, I smell it before spraying and it always smells intimate. It smells nothing like what comes out, and I am happy about this.
A perfume I didn’t really wish to like, or didn’t even want to try….I now like a LOT! This is an excellent, faultless signature scent. Not an outrageous price either. I may try Gucci again one day!

Start floral & coconutty, then it becomes greener & sweeter while still floral & you end up with a sweet, mildly spicy smell of lilies.
This perfume can be classy or causal, depending upon the wearer. Good versitility.
    A big like.
P.S.: Gal Gadot is not a proper marketing choice. I see someone like Rachel Weisz wearing this.

I have this perfume. I like it , I don’t love it. It does stay on me pretty long so I like that, it’s not an amazing scent but it does the works if you want to smell good.

    Who is the perfumer…

  15. :

Bamboo is truly unique and dear to me. Spiritual, balanced sophisticated perfection. A Zen garden. Strong, wise yet modest. Maybe not for everyone to understand and appreciate, but to me it reflects exactly the kind of person I want to be… Confident in own skin and beautiful from within.
I did even choose Bamboo for my wedding; it was just right for the small, minimalistic yet graceful ceremony and my outfit. But most importantly Bamboo was just right for keeping myself grounded, relaxed and mindful during that very special day.
So yes, it is hard for me to understand negative reviews for this beauty, but this just shows that to each their own. Well, personally I have been sniffing all my life, but there is nothing like Bamboo to me!
Oh and the packaging? So refined and beautiful; goes so well with the fragrance inside and overall concept of Bamboo.
What an elegant and perfect fragrance!

I got a tester of this today. I have to admit that I really, really like it and I have no idea why I have been avoiding this for such a long time! I had no reason to hate on this.
It smells sophisticated, effortless, clean, feminine, light and down to earth. This is not a perfume that demands a lot of attention, but it gives you some kind of enhancing “vibe”. I like that. I need a perfume like this for a change.
I don’t see how this would not fit all seasons or occasions.

  17. :

This perfume is for those who want something fresh but not too citrus-like and/or clean. This fragrance does smells clean yet there is a very sensual undertone from the florals and on my skin in settles into a perfect mix of bergamot, white florals and sandalwood. It’s not my signature scent but I wear this when I want to feel feminine and elegant though I find the smell to be quite inoffensive and pleasant. So personally I adore this fragrance from the start and it has grown on me even more over time!
I love just about every Gucci fragrance and it feels like they have a scent for everybody and every occasion!

  19. :

This really is the best of both worlds of floral and citrus for me. Bright crisp bergamot and creamy sweet lily and ylang ylang are like best friends in this lovely scent. I love the combination, but for me they take turns emerging and stepping in front of each other all through the wearing.
This feels smooth, soothing, and elegant but with a modern crisp edge of woody citrus. Brings to mind a zen garden with a trickling waterfall in the background somewhere. It’s polite and crowd pleasing but also has great sillage. Lasts over 5 hrs. before a fade out on me. Beautiful any season perfume for lily and citrus lovers..

This is one of those perfume that grows on you over time. It is fresh and white. Lily, bergamot, citrus…it actually has the smell of Casablanca lillies. I thought it to be citrousy and very particular a summer perfume but then i tried wearing it on winter and it worked perfectly well, I wore this for long walk and made me feel so fresh especially when the breeze hits your body and all you can smell around you is freshness and green.
I got complemented even at work for this(people said its very fresh green and mysterious).
its packaged in a beautiful bottle with the bamboo cap.
Moreover being a Gal Gadot fan and realising that Gucci Bamboo is her signature made me try it a number of times initially i found it way too light and would always wonder what had been so special in this to be her signature perfume. I had been trying it for a while and would end up buying something or the other but then i tried this on my Birthday and decided to own it and yes since then its trending ahead with a pretty fast pace to be one the top of my signature perfume list… :).
This is one of those perfume that made me realise that signature perfume is not love at first sniff but something that matures over time makes you feel that this is the smell that you would like to encapsulate yourself with forever…

  23. :

    4 out of 5

The name fits perfectly to the bottle (and I love the cap), that is a copy of the mythical Gucci’ Bamboo bags with bamboo handle.
In any case, I’d better reserve more attention to the fragrance.
It’s chic and unusual, a plus sometimes!

I dont understand the fuss.. i bought it right away after i test-sprayed it .i mean this is by far….the best floral fragrance ive got….the lily just stood out…on me…it lasted all day…even after i washed my clothes….that eegant scent remained still….9/10…..simply…this is a hidden gem, people!

My friend give me her bottle of Gucci Bamboo as she got bored of it & knows how crazy I am for perfumes 😀
One word sums up this fragrance: Nice.
Bamboo sure is a ‘nice’ everyday perfume. Lily, bergamot, citrus & something bitter. I don’t detect any vanilla whatsoever. Fresh, clean, floral with acidic notes.
I love citrus/floral perfumes but there’s just something in Bamboo that isn’t appealing on my skin. I can’t put my finger on what note disagrees with me. Weird.
Longevity is rather weak on me, about 1 hour or so. Tut tut for the price!
Overall, a nice enough spring/summer perfume. Floral, citrusy & fresh. Weak longevity & rather expensive. Make of that what you will.

    ATTENTION PLEASE
Can anyone comment about the label on the base – the one that usually has the volume, strength-edp/edt etc, this may have been a peel off label and that top bit gone and the white underneath with all the ingredients is what’s left….

    Gucci Bamboo EdP
I like the top notes of this. Bamboo is sort of a white floral – so has a rounded floralness, with a cool aspect, fresh slight green in the background. It has an edge yes and coolness just like the colour of the bottle.
Overall very light, cool, rounded floral fresh.
    Longevity – no awards there.
    Clean innofensive.
I do have one worry; I bought a bottle, the font looks right, the lid looks right, I keep seeing that middle line on the lid has different ends, some fork slightly and some fade.
I’m a little iffy about as the glass isn’t perfectly smooth on the top just on one side.

I was looking for a Gucci Bloom sample but accidentally clicked Bamboo instead!
This perfume doesn’t really have a WOW factor to me, but it is pleasant and pretty.
It smells like the kind of perfume Miss Honey from ‘Mathilda’ would wear. While I am trying it on in winter, I find it still works and adds a touch of summer to gloomy days.

Light white floral fragrance with citrus. A little bit sweet.
This fragrance really smells Casablanca lillies!!!
It was not easy to find exactly those lilies in fragrances, I only felt the similar in Tom Ford’s one fragrance.
The fragrance is really very nice and fresh.
Later ylang-ylang and amber become more noticeable, but Casablanca Lily is still the leading.
    White floral inoffensive beauty!

Smelled this on a friend of mine and it smelled awesome . I bought it and wore it like 3 or 4 times but it ended up smelling like I bathed in BBQ sauce after each wear. I don’t think my body chemistry agrees with it anymore. So now, its just on my dresser collecting dust. Doesn’t smell bad but it just doesn’t agree with me.

I have to write another review for Bamboo because I actually LOVE it so much. I’ve described the scent before, it reminds me of drinking lemonade in a garden. I had only worn this in the summer but now that I’ve tried it in the winter too I think I will wear it both during cold and warm months.
I don’t understand the hate this fragrance is getting but it seems to be only on this website because everyone else has complemented me on it. Then again, most people just want a perfume that smells beautiful and makes them feel happy and confident, they aren’t looking for some rare captivating juice made of unicorn farts and fairy tears that smells like nothing you’ve ever smelled before. Of course those people will hate Bamboo, it smells really simple and that’s why I find it so beautiful. I find this scent very uplifting, I can only associate it with posive feelings and thoughts. I had been looking for a light, airy and feminine fragrance for a long time and this is perfect for me.
I hope that all the nagative critisism doesn’t make them discontinue this beauty.

My first review in years on Fragrantica! Happy to be back!
I chose this from a Sephora sample set; I liked its white floral and woody accord. It is a fragrance I can wear to work (I’m an elementary school teacher) that smells pleasant and isn’t overwhelming.
I applied some at 7 this morning and I can still smell some of the dry down on my wrists; I’m getting the sandalwood and amber and it’s lovely.
I don’t think this is something that I would have picked out on my own; I’m more of a niche gal…but a challenging niche is often out of place in a classroom. I enjoyed it all day today and I’m looking forward to using it again–it’s fair to say that Bamboo is rapidly growing on me!

I have been looking for my signature perfume for years. The first time I smelled this one, I was in Macy’s and I thought “Ooh Gucci, expensive. I doubt it is worth that much”. Well, after a whiff, I was sold. Got it for xmas and I have been in love ever since. How do I know it is my signature scent? Well, I have been wearing it for weeks straight and am not even close to being sick of it. I love it more and more each time. The smell? I can never quite put my finger on a specific note, but to describe it: Fresh, yet sexy. Clean, but bold. It has a greeness to it, like getting a whiff of fresh, dewy leaves while walking through a forest. It doesn’t smell like leaves though, just simple, fresh, clean, but at the same time, sexy and sweet.

This delightful fragrance was created to compliment the Gucci Bamboo Clothing and Accessories line. It was not meant to smell like bamboo (which I imagine would be green/bland). It’s a clean, citrusy bright perfume – on me the longevity is quite good, 10 or more hours. It does go through a softening, woody effect in its drydown – which I like even more than the initial spritz. I expect to be happily surrounded by this beauty’s aura for some time to come. And, I might add, the bottle is exquisite!

I smelt this perfume on a friend while at happy hour, she said she had been wearing it all day at work and it still smelt great. On her it smelt like bamboo and baby powder. When I wear it, it has a fresh clean scent, floral and woodsy, with amber and lily (which I love). Its smell is clean and classy. I really enjoy it.

I originally tested this in the summer and loved it. Rich floral scent with slight citrus notes. Makes it great for work, casual days or evenings out. I didn’t purchase a full bottle though.
I re-tested this in the winter and it’s not the same, and doesn’t last that long on me. It’s still a strong like, but I’m not convinced to buy a full bottle at this time.
I really feel this is one of those scents that will work beautifully for me in warmer weather, but not colder weather. Remembering my original love for this, I’ll be tempted to test again next summer.

Another sample I finished up today.
I liked this one but don’t love it. All I smell is lily and I’m sorry with a name like “Bamboo” I’m expecting a green bamboo with a hint of aquatic scent IDK lol just not all lily.
This perfume would be nice for spring and summer.

Hi, I’ ve only just started to broaden my intrest in perfumes and this morning a I asked a woman I know what she was wearing.
Her perfume reminded me of two I had/have, Kenzo Homme and Nautica Voyage.
She was wearing Bamboo by Gucci and there is one particular note that Kenzo Homme and Nautica also have.
I compared the ingredients but still in doubt of what that one thing is.
Also I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Kenzo Homme is in a bamboo shaped bottle 🙂
Does anyone know what ingredient might be?

I get that animalic/urine note from Gucci Bamboo on my skin, too and I think it’s the Orange Blossom combined with the Lily. I’ve come to the conclusion that I just can’t tolerate Orange Blossom/Neroli (which seems to be in almost all feminine fragrances these days) and actual lilies can come across as quite fetid, especially when they’re no longer fresh.

  41. :

Lovely, surprising scent I’d like to pick up for office wear. At first, when I’d sprayed this at the store I thought it felt really juicy and almost night time yet still bright. When I got a sample to test on my skin though it revealed itself much more as something I’d love to spray on at home in the morning, the bright citrus on top is really zingy, almost chemical, like a really luxe very clean bathroom. Not at all how I’d want to go out smelling but it opens into juicier citrus and white floral quickly in a lovely way for the office with so much warmth and wood underneath. The vanilla immediately starts warming it up on the skin and from there and I really loved it. Great base notes. A lovely perfume, much more complex than at first glance, goes though a lot of changes as it develops. Would love to get more familiar with it!

    @apricot_blossom
I agree with you, there is a very animalic aroma to Bamboo, the note reminding me of black currant in it’s most pungent form, a blend of musky ammonia. Perhaps it’s an indolic lily note that goes too far for some and goes into animalic.
The bottle is gorgeous and all looks perfect for me by the notes but it’s a miscast for me.
If your nose is like mine and isn’t agreeable to most, or all, animalic notes, you would do well to test this one out first before a blind buy.

I bought a tester of this recently–extra discounted as apparently it wasn’t a big mover…and I can totally see why this is not a big mover.
On paper, it seems perfect. I have been searching for a replacement for the bottle of Signorina I finished off recently, as it’s perfect for the hot tropical climate I’m living in right now–not overpowering, especially since I’m studying in very close proximity to others. Gucci Bamboo I expected to fit the bill: a low sillage but moderately lasting fragrance filled with light notes. Aside from the Casablanca lily, I’ve used and liked fragrances and body care products with all the listed notes. And I did test the tester, though I probably was wearing the last bits of Signorina at the time, which might have caused me to think I liked this.
I tried it at home, and it is straight up urine on me. I’m not sure what is giving off that ammonia-esque odor. I know bergamot tends to be sour, and ylang-ylang smells fairly strongly herbaceous to me, but I generally like these fragrances. The urine smell fades in intensity over time, and thankfully the sillage is so low that nobody who sits next to me in class has complained. Apart from the urine, I can’t detect any other notes.
I even gave it a second chance because I’m wearing it now, before bed. Still: urine. It’s a shame–such a cute and luxurious bottle and a great price for the tester.

Gucci Bamboo wasn’t what I expected. Basing on its name, I thought it would have a clean bamboo scent, much like a room fragrance I am very much fond of. When I smelled it at the Gucci fragrance counter of a nearby department store, I was surprised to find not a hint of bamboo. And when I checked on this page, well, there isn’t any after all!
Because this fragrance seemed to be rather trendy, I went ahead and got a vial sample of Gucci Bamboo, in spite of its lack of bamboo. I wore it for the first time today. It opens with a citrus burst of bergamot, a little sharp but fresh. Now, I am not a floral fan and in particular am not fond of white florals (although I have lately learned to appreciate some of it in fragrances), so I couldn’t really distinguish the floral notes. To me it becomes a crisp citrus-floral with a light woody note that verges on sour. I do not detect any vanilla or amber, nor do I find it sweet at all.
I find it a bit generic in a way that it smells very familiar, but couldn’t say what fragrance it resembles. It could be one fragrance or any number of typical fragrances that smell the same. I do not mean this in a bad way though. It smells pleasant enough, and I wouldn’t mind owning a small bottle of this for when the mood strikes. But I’m glad I didn’t blind buy a full bottle. It’s not really me, even though it’s something I might like to wear sometimes. I’m not sure if my overall impression of the fragrance smelling generic on me is due to chemistry or if it’s simply not my usual cup of tea.
I applied just a couple of spritzes about three or four hours ago and can still catch whiffs of it. Fairly good strength and longevity for a light fragrance. Overall, not bad, but not worth the exorbitant cost for me.

  45. :

    4 out of 5

When I first spritzed this on I immediately thought of Juicy Couture’s “Malibu”, a very pretty and pleasant scent. They smell almost identical- only difference is Bamboo is pricier.
Don’t get me wrong: I have no problem with dupes. My issue is there’s nothing really bambooish about Bamboo. I was expecting it to live up to its name and when you think “bamboo” you think green. There isn’t really anything green about it. If anything it’s more of a fruity pink-floral type fragrance.
It’s lovely and the bottle is gorge but save your money. You can get a huge five ounce of Juicy Couture’s Malibu for about thirty bucks if you hunt.

  46. :

Bamboo is joyful and feminine. It opens up with bright white florals that reminds me of a summer day. The dry down is a sensual woody amber. Sillage is about moderate.

I have the EDP. This is pure Ylang Ylang. Too much of this gives you headache. It’ll remind you of the smell of the flowers they put in Churches. There’s a lot of perfumes that smell exactly like it. The smell is too generic and linear. The bottle is lovely, though.

  48. :

    5 out of 5

I don’t get a whole lot of lily and there is not much kin to Baiser Vole as some reviewers observe, at least not to my nose. However there’s a Zen-like quality that is also found in Baiser Vole that is clean, floral and simple. But no stemmy greens here.
The floral is somewhat non-descript, not really lily. This is more like sweet steamed jasmine rice, a little humid but fresh with a touch of silky iris powder. The ylang ylang, sandalwood, amber and subtle vanilla make for a lightweight oriental base. Bergamot gives Bamboo a soft tea-like airiness without the sharp citrus twang. Orange blossom adds some floral fullness and along with the jasmine, it makes for a crazy compliment getter.
Soft, feminine, clean and understated, fantastic value for a workhorse floral suitable for almost any occasion, yet not so versatile as to be insipid as this beautiful perfume has some gorgeous character. I’ll be getting a lot of mileage out of this pretty bottle in my wardrobe. Brava Gucci!

So many times I smell this on people and I get paper. The Bamboo by Gucci is very dry fresh floral scent, with this big bergamot making impression of new printed books.
I am glad on myself I discover more attractive side of perfume which might seem faceless on first test. On me Bamboo smells like flowers. With time it intensifies and from gentle lily it turns to orange blossom and sandalwood. I know, it doesn’t sound fresh or delicate, that’s how it is on me. I was thinking Bamboo will pass as proper work perfume but I feel it has more potential to be evening perfume.

This is grapey sweet lily to me with a strong acidic nuance.
Its a little green and very fresh.
On the skin it becomes more bitter and citrusy over time.
I think it has great lasting power and moderate sillage.
I love the fresh, carefree, just washed my hair vibe it gives.
(Hate the way it smells on clothes)

The bamboo is easily in my top five. It’s so long lasting and powerful but at the same time not over powering. Lovely flora tones and very feminine the EDP is amazing but would definitely say your wasting your time going for the EDT as it doesn’t last as long at all.

It reminds me so much of Earl Grey tea – must be the bergamot! This is a very sophisticated, classy scent. Softly sweet and floral. I don’t wear it too often but I enjoy it when I do.

Very torn on this one its very strong citrus scented. Maybe too much citrus while this down plays the other notes which go unnoticed. I like it but sadly I don’t love it. I don’t know what I expected from bamboo. I don’t know why this is called bamboo.

    EDP version
At first I get citrus/jasmine….ylang/sandalwood next…maybe a slight lily. Was hoping for more lily…sigh….Kinda generic scent…like the other newer Gucci’s….another sigh….Nice, everyday scent, Glad to have a sample only.
EDIT: OOOPS !!!……Waited for the complete drydown…..and I am liking this alot more….

Not sure what gives this perfume such unpleasant undertone. the Lilly is extremely dry, like smelling closely its narcotic pollen . I mistakenly thought that this fragrance should have a water Lilly or lotus or other aquatic notes…

I had been looking for something like bamboo for a very long time. I wanted something that I can wear in the extreme summer heat of my country without everyone else suffocating. Bamboo is light, airy and very pleasant and most important of all, it doesn’t have a huge sillage and this is what makes it perfect for summer days. It has moderate sillage for about 2 hours and then it sits close to the skin but if you are wearing this outdoors and it’s windy you can definitely smell it after the 2-hour mark when the wind is blowing. Longevity on my skin is barely 5 hours though, and for a few more hours I can smell it but it’s very weak so I doubt it counts.
From the bottle it smells very citrusy, the bergamot is trying to steal the show and it’s just gorgeous. On my skin, lily is the strongest note but the bergamot is still there. To me it smells like sweet lemonade. Imagine yourself drinking lemonade in a garden in the summer, this is what bamboo smells like. It’s a fragrance that is beautiful because of its simplicity. It’s very uplifting and it’s the kind of smell that makes you smile.

Bamboo is just what I was looking for. It’s a fragrance you can easily purchase from your local Macy’s. Now that it’s summer time my skin craves fresher cooler breezier scents. This smells of orante blossom amber and vanilla but it’s quite soft and subtle, clean, a whisper of what could be a big citrus floral. Sweet but not cloying, casual and innocent, very easy to wear. Bamboo can be worn by young girls who are transitioning from girl perfumes of fruit and berry scents to more mature florals without making a huge leap into heavy florals.
Opens with a bergamot orange and orange blossom, citrusy and fresh, zesty, lemony, sweet. The scent does get floral with a soapy white lily, but this is the only floral note in addition to the citrus floral orange blossom. At times it smells green and herbal but in the softest most delicate way sort of like holding a little orange flower with green leaves in your hand and taking a whiff. In the dry down I detect amber tree and vanilla with a touch of sandalwood, it’s clean and soapy. This fragrance can be worn with T shirt and jeans shorts and summer apparel. You can wear it to wherever it is you work and it’s so far from being inoffensive that it turns a tad boring sometimes. But I wear this just for a casual affair when I don’t want to smell of actual perfume.

Bamboo’s warm fresh botanic beginning seems promising, sophisticated almost. However, as it starts to dry down, it starts to smell, for the lack of a better word, cheap. It is a sweet ambery light floral that has absolutely nothing to offer to me.
However, I am not hitting a ‘dislike’ simply because it does not smell annoying or horrible and I am sure it would work well as an unpretentious prom fragrance for someone.

I tested Gucci Bamboo on my wrist for the first time today in the department store and I adored it at first sniff: Feminine, airy but interesting, floral, woody but not overwhelming, perfect for spring, summer and especially the office…and then 2 hours later it was a skin scent. Grrr! My paper tester still smells strongly of it though! I’m sitting here 6 hours later and still getting wafts from the strip which is 2 1/2 feet from my nose. It’s very humid today, so I’ll test again on my skin in a couple of days! Fingers crossed because I love it and I want it! Funny that the name has nothing to do with the scent because when I think of real bamboo…this scent fits. 😀

Gucci Bamboo is very zen and airy. It does have a scent of something, white lily perhaps, but it’s so airy that it must be a white lily blowing wildly about on a windy spring day. I like this fragrance but if it were between this and the also-zen Omnia Crystalline, I would choose Omnia because it’s a bit more interesting. Pretty bottle though!

This works very well on me. A pleasantly green lily fragrance i find great for spring & summer. I am also suprised at the many appalling reviews for this one.
Lily can be a tricky flower for people to tolerate. I find lily to be heady and headache inducing in many other perfumes. Not this one.
It’s beautiful and woody. Love the sandalwood here too. One of my current spring favorites right now.

So I was quite happy with the light fresh smell of Gucci Bamboo and was surprised by the number of people who dislike it. Fast forward two weeks after, which is now, I notice my Gucci Bamboo does not have the lovely opening fragrance it once has, but is replaced with a thick very ‘lotiony’ kind of scent which can be nauseating, after a while, it does get back to its fresh scent but the lotiony smell makes me hate it soooo much. Now, I understand why there are bad reviews about this. Disappointed.

Not sure why I bought it, I must’ve loved it when I sampled it in the store. It’s a classy scent but it does not make me happy or smile unlike other perfumes do. Don’t hate it but don’t love it.
