Quite similar to the SL version. Too woody and resinous for my liking.

My stream-of-conciousness review, written over the course of hours:
Ginger menthol…fennel? Caraway?
Bitter vinager, almost pukey.
Spicey, smells a lot like a men’s deoderant.
Sharp citrus. Is that Old Spice it’s reminding me of?
Very nice, distractingly masculine. I keep looking around for the attractive man sitting near me.

I agree with Sterling Maiden. I dearly love the smell of ginger, which is beautifully rendered here, in a rich and appealing context as SM describes. Unfortunately, I have not yet found a ginger fragrance I felt I could wear. Sweeten it at all — an DSH does — and all I can think is ginger ale. Great scent, ginger ale, but not a personal fragrance.

Imagine sitting by a bonfire on a cold autumn night, sipping a cup of hot buttered rum, into which you’ve just dunked a gingersnap cookie….this is Gingembre. A delightful blend of spice and wood, warmed by pepper and paprika, with the ginger remaining front and center throughout. Not to say that the other notes don’t play any part – they do – but in supporting roles. Ginger is the star of this production from the first act to the final curtain.
Sillage is decent and several hours in, I can still smell it on my wrist. There are similarities to Five O’Clock Au Gingembre, but(in my opinion)DSH Gingembre has more complexity, and less of that “dug out of the dirt” smell. All in all, it is more pleasing to me and when I am in the mood for a spicy scent I reach for this and DSH Cimabue more than anything else.
