I know everyone is saying fall and winter for this is perfect but for me, this is a calm beautiful sunlit moment in a pine forest during summer. Whilst many of my perfumes failed this summer and felt suffocating (new feeling for me, didn’t expect it) this perfume just bloomed perfectly. I wore it whilst exploring the Puzzle Woods in Gloucester which inspired parts of JRR Tolkien and it fit beautifully. Sweet resinous pine that feels warm rather than cool or austere. Always intend to have a bottle of this, it makes my soul sing ^_^

This is my top Serge Lutens for the fall season bar none. Incense, Balsam Fir, Pine, Bay Leaf, Dried Fruits, Spices, and Vetiver. The pine is so green and invigorating, you’ll think you’re in a real forest on a cold morning. The dried fruits added some sweetness while the incense blossomed like a gentle breeze caressing your face. Perfect for fall and winter. Definitely an aquired taste but one that quenched all my thirst for a perfect fall and winter scent, lovely stuff.

A witch’s brew simmering in the forest. There’s a balsamic like creaminess that blends with the pine, stirring up something that vaguely resembles flat root beer. It’s in the same league as CDG Russian forest troll Zagorsk, and maybe Amouage Memoire Man, though unlike the latter, Fille en Aiguilles bypasses any notions of luxury. That doesn’t mean it’s cheap, but it’s more concerned with capturing an atmosphere rather than making a statement. Very nice, but not especially captivating for me and there are tons of alternatives.

This scent is perfect in cold weather with green pine note, dried fruits and a lillte of incense. One of the best and natural pine note.

Everybody in here says that it is a marvelous scent but unfortunately it soon becomes a skin scent. Well, that’s true, but imagine it in a higher concentration…It would be impossible to wear. We can’t have everything in this world, believe me.

This is a special one, what I imagine the Black Forest of Germany smells like. It does smell like Christmas, but don’t be put off because you’re imagining a cloying overdose of sugar. Any Brothers Grimm fairy tale could smell like this too.

I tried to love this for several years I forgot how many, but in the end I could not. I believe one of the reasons is that there is too much incense in the basenotes. I gave it to my daughter.

The previous reviews identifying this as a cherished and nostalgic, both summer and winter scent are on point. I received my bottle still hot from 90+ degrees in a delivery truck, immediately sprayed it on, and yes, it’s perfect. After all, evergreens are active all year, summer included. I’d still classify it as a more evening fragrance though. Stays relatively close to the skin so it’s not overwhelming in the heat. It would layer very well to add depth to something that is too bright.

Such an unusual one! Smells like nothing I’ve tried before. Pine, wood and incense goodness. The drydown is sweet and rich. A wonderful composition, a perfect example of haute perfumery.

Out of my current 70 or many in my lifetime this is in my top 5 – WOW, THIS IS SURE DIFFERENT & OH MY WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE category!
Not I think your average fare at all – easily one of the most memorable scents and a classic “show me what Serge Lutens is about scent”.
Not abstract or odd but certainly different and a statement – many compliments, all positive with either a “wow, never smelled something so unique – where do I get it?” or “wow, never smelled something so unique – and I like smelling it but I can’t imagine wearing it”. Closest from experience is Man 2 by Comme Des Garcons though this is an EDP and shows it in its depth – the incense gives that Church vibe though, to my liking this smells much more like nature or a wooded forest with a ‘thing’ happening.
Imagine you see two halves of resin, you smell the inside of them and you realise there is slightly burnt wood, incense and pine needles in equal parts. You put the halves back together and see and smell a bucket of syrup and push it in and then some dried apricots (not too sweet) come to the top. The middle and top notes are quite in your face and last for me at least 4-7 hours in a fairly linear sense, blended beautifully.
Its different yet safe enough I think to wear in any circumstance though I think its very much a winter scent.
    In summary:
    * Left of field but largely inoffensive, if you would like to “start broadening” your perfume experience this is a nice one to start
    * Quality, longevity would be close to the best I’ve owned (up to 12 hours)
    * Silage doesn’t fill the room but is close for 4 or so hours before settling to a few metres – I don’t get complaints here about longevity as I’ve had clients ask me a few meters away at the end of the working day if it was me they can smell.
    * ‘Wow – what’s that?” compliment getter
    * Attractive value for money
Thank You SL for making me smell so good!
    Happy Smelling!

One of the best scents I have ever tried. Get so many compliments with this too. Probably my most complimented scent. This pine scent is actually mass pleasing, its balanced, well blended and high quality. It evokes feelings and memories. Its Like meditating in the forest under a pine tree while a stick of incense burning carefully in the background. It should also be noted that the notes of dry fruits make this not only green and smokey. The fruit notes make the scent more pleasing, complex and interesting. This manifistation is why I am into fragrances. This made number one on Sebastian’s (from feeling smelling great) top 10 serge lutens list. I understand why. Probably the best scent ever created in this category?
If you like the smell of pine forest and want to distinguish yourself from the typical parfume dna most people wear, this may be for you.
    Easy 10/10

This smells excellent, and I am always looking for resinous, woody scents. Alas, though this one is right on the money conceptually, the end result is a bit bland for my tastes. It doesn’t have the (to me) jagged progression of Norne, the wonderful opening then offensive dry-down of Soul of the Forest, the intense, dry simplicity of Wonderwood, the kookiness of November, the delicacy of Osmanthe Yunnan, the quick-fade explosion of Bowmakers. It’s better crafted than some of those scents but less memorable. I guess I like a little — or more than a little — edge. Also, I’m not a big fan of sweet.
For a similar idea, at the moment I prefer Faggot by CB I Hate Perfume, which delivers woods and smoke, without the incense or stewed fruits.
(I tried this on my wrist at the store and wore it once for about 90 minutes before writing this.)

I’ve completely forgotten this was sitting at the back of my shelf from years ago so I decided to spray some on my arm today.
I forgot how much I ADORE this perfume!
When I first purchased this I’ll admit, the pine and the dried fruit were so literal and overwhelming I was a little put off by this wondering when I’d ever wear it.
But smelling it now, maybe because it’s aged or because I’ve aged it smells very different.
I always thought this was a winter scent because of the incense and fresh pine, but with the warmer weather coming I can picture this as a spring scent as well.
This is not at all like pinesol or a masculine, sharp scent, this is so cozy like a sweater and slightly feminine from the sweetness of the fruit.
If you’re expecting lush, juicy fruits from a fruity floral fragrance, this is far from that.
It’s dried, almost candied fruit that smells like it’s been left out for a while.
I think of sitting around a campfire in a forest with the mysterious shadows lingering around the fire, as you’ve some prunes stewing in a pot.
It’s definitely not something everyone is going to enjoy, but I wish both men and women could take a whiff of this magical fragrance!
This is a very dry woody, green scent that smells like nothing I’ve ever smelled in my life!!

So gorgeous. The way this goes on is almost etherealy beautiful. Every note is perfect. It made me a little sad because the FIRST thing I thought is that there is no way on earth this can last. And it didn’t. Like the pine Forrest it’s named for it began to… I want to say “decay”… but in a very clean and organic way, as if everything green dried up and became spicy and herbatious. It smelled really NICE. About 60 to 90 minutes in, the foreest was gone and all that was left was the scent of smoldering incense in a dry, grassy field of vetiver. I love it but then, incense and vetiver are faves for me. Sillage and projection are Moderate but that isn’t the point with a perfume like this. It was skin scent in about 4 hours on me with a liberal application.
4.5 out of 5 for me.

  21. :

    4 out of 5

Amazing composition of a pine tree forest with some burning wood (incense) and fruits to add a slight sweetness. The only issue is projection is 1-2 hours tops. Becomes a skin scent way too quickly. At this price I expected sillage/projection for at least a 4+ hours.
Anybody else notice how quickly this becomes a skin scent? For me it’s 1 to 2 hours and it’s rather frustrating because the fragrance is perfectly blended, natural smelling, unique and the quality is noticed from the top to the base.

I had mixed feelings when I first tried Fille en aiguilles. However, more positive than negative so I let it rest for a while before giving it another chance. This fragrance was a real grower on me. It has a pine-like aroma over a tone of stewed and dried fruit. It somehow reminds me of hot sand and pine forest at the same time. Distant incense also shows up from time to time. Despite that I really enjoy the fragrance, I don’t see any occasion where I could wear it, but this should not keep you away from this Serge Lutens’ classic.

  23. :

    4 out of 5

Perhaps this is culture differences, but Fille en Aiguilles smells exactly like pickled smoke plum to me (common dry fruit snacks and beverage here).
Smoky, salty and sweet, very strong in veltiver. I personally don’t find any resemblance to Zagorsk, Zagorsk is light, cold and airy, a lot less smoky, while this is heavy, dense and warm. To me Fille en Aiguilles is unisex but definitely not a tradition feminine scent.
    Update:
This strangely doesn’t last very long, considering how loud it is at the beginning, since this type of scent usually lasts forever. After 2 hours even I put my nose right on the wrist, there’s only something very faint left, which doesn’t smell very pleasant, either…

  24. :

One of the most beloved and talked about Serge Lutens perfumes (not as loved as Chergui), and a permanent fixture in my collection since its introduction 8 years ago, this coniferous beauty (that translates as ‘The Girl in (Pine) Needles’, is a resinous, norish beauty that contains notes of pine (prominent), vetiver, laurel, fir, frankincense, and hints of fruit and spice. Bearing many resemblances to another similar resinous beauty, the Slumberhouse classic “Norne” (which is denser because of the cypress absolute), this is much more lighter and easier to wear. Perfect for wintry days because of the warmth it envelopes you in the moment it lands on your skin, the unisex fragrance has moderate sillage/projection and very good longevity. A classic of modern perfumery, this meditative, resin laden beauty is gorgeously haunting!

STUNNING! STUNNING! STUNNING! I don’t usually do corniverous scents like pine and fir but by god this one is a masterpiece! Such a lovely smelling fragrance. 9/10

  26. :

    3 out of 5

Fille en Aiguilles is a soothing and transportive coniferous balsam with a cologne-like freshness in the start which is quickly replaced by not so fresh but still excellent scent of sweet fruit.
This honeyed pine nectar is of distinguishable quality and depth, and is easy to use. Not overpowering or too thick to be sticky sweet.
The scent as it is feels just right. Spices (cumin?) add a bit of an edge to its dreamy character.
Excellent, but i don’t love it as much as i love other SLs (Chergui, Chypre Rouge, Feminite du Bois)

Raisins ‘n’ resins. Delicious for cold weather.

  29. :

    4 out of 5

Fille en Aiguilles is a winter and Christmas scent unlike any other, at least to me as I usually like delicious gourmands and warm spicy orientals in winter.
This starts a bit boozy, but quickly the pine and fir become the most dominant notes. It’s like a forest full of conifers dripping with their resins. The dried fruit notes add a some sweetness and make the scent more wearable. Incense and a spicy accent complete the fruit and trees in the drydown, and at this point it makes me think of a Räuchermännchen, a German incense burner shaped like a man, used to burn small incense cones. Those cones come in different scents, fir being one of them, and remind me of the winters in my childhood. It’s a cozy smell to me.
I like the smokey drydown of Fille en Aiguilles better than the opening.
I’m not sure I’d ever buy a bottle of this, as it’s such a specific fragrance and I would likely not wear it often enough, but I enjoy it a lot and could imagine wearing this in the cold clear winter air.

Fille en aiguilles, girl on high heel, pins. The name suggest refinement.
Pine is a difficult one to refine. And in this perfume the pine is rough, natural. The vetiver doesn’t come to its aid. So you are left with the scent of a vast pine forrest. You lean against a tree and resin sticks to your hand. The smell of it is alluring, but the stickyness annoying. As night falls there is no way out of this forrest and you make camp. It is going to be a harsh night for the girl on high heels out in nature. If survived, it will be a beautifull experience. No so much for me though.

    (Review from a sample)
Fille en Aiguilles, to me, faithfully represents what the name says: it makes me think of a sweet little girl walking in the forest, during a warm and sunny summer day, maybe around 5 pm. I don’t mean it is a childish perfume at all, nor necessarily just for women, but is has some kind of innocence to it (maybe I’m getting carried away haha).
What I smell most is pine, incense and, after a few minutes, sweet dry fruit. Something spicy too, but not too much, and a tiny bit of vetiver. The interesting thing is, pine is a fresh note, whereas incense here is quite warm, so to me it is neither too cool nor too warm, and I can see it being worn all year round – though it would be amazing for Christmas.
    Sillage and persistency are moderate.
Also, this type of incense is not churchy. I think it would be suitable for work as well, it could be an everyday scent.
EDIT: I bought it 😀 I knew this would happen. It made too big an impression on me to be overlooked.
Quick Comparison: Fille en Aiguilles – Wald (Euphorium Brooklyn) – NORNE (Slumberhouse):
    -Fille is the sweetest, warmest, and most feminine. Not too weird, can be worn at work;
    -Wald is the smokiest (not incense, actual smoke), neither too sweet nor warm. The most unique, it is harder to wear;
-NORNE is the dark and the coldest, but not as smoky or unique as Wald, easier to wear.
    They are all long lasting

Warm spicy – balsamic – aromatic
    Color impression: dark raisin violet
When I was a child summertime holidays were luminous and dreamy in a private beach out of town where rich people often used to go. There was a vast horizon of sand shore ending to a landscape a bit elevated from sea level, occupied by giant old pine trees that host armies of cicadas under their soothing dark shades. While people linger on golden sand by the shore I used to wander alone under pines, taking inspirations from their enchanting vista and noisy solitude that trigger my murky imaginations. Stings of declined pine needles under my bare feet were in paradox with weightless tranquility of being lost.
I still feel strange when I see a land where huge pines blocking seascape. And yes, Fille en Aiguilles – my nocturnal mate – is the very scent to feed my dark passenger and conjure up the same feelings I had two decades ago. Good perfume should take you to a trip, should evoke clear imaginations of inside and recover sepia memories. Fille en Aiguilles is splendid and loyal tribute to natural aspects of pines without aiming to mass-please or being afraid of being so spicy and resinous.

Oh my! This one is seriously good! In competition with Chergui and Five O`Clock Au Gingembre to be my favorite Serge Lutens creation.
    First impression:
Baikal soda (Russian version of Coca Cola, less sweet with more herbs) freshly opened with cheerful bubbles bursting up and getting your nose wet, but it smells so good you can’t control yourself, even you know you’re on live camera, and this is reception for president Putin … and this is HIS drink!
    Second impression:
woods, endless woods with a lot of pine and fir trees, fresh air, some smoke and herbs, a lot of herbs. Now you remember, they took you to Siberia, but you run and shaman found you. He asks you if you thirsty and offer you bottle of Baikal… You open your eyes, cameras rolling, security guards running, but you can’t control yourself…
    Song:
Rachelle Ferrell’s Individuality, Can I Be Me… This perfume sure has a lot of individuality and hardly could be mistaken for another!
…please don’t tell Rachel Maddow there’s a link between Putin and US recording industry! LOL

Fille en Aiguilles leaves me frustrated. Every single time I spray this one from my decant, I wonder why I haven’t bought this yet. Honestly: every single time. But every single time I wear this, after an hour or two the beautiful opening has disappeared and all I’m left with is incense and I remember why I so smartly refrained from buying. This happens Every. Single. Time.
It’s heartbreaking . Because the first hours really are gorgeous. A beautiful forest, deep, mysterious, piney and just slightly sweet in a rich way. One of the most beautiful openings I’ve encountered in perfumery and one that really feels like ‘me’. It captivates me so entirely, that I will always make that same misjudgement in the first hours. Every Single Time. Why didn’t I buy this again?
I’ll tell ya, I will cave some day and give in to that first impulse to buy. Someday.

This gives me the feelings of being in the forest in the best way. The greats don’t need a huge review, or dissection. Its all been said. A super buy for the genre. A+

  39. :

    4 out of 5

So gorgeous and distinctive that it makes me shiver. There’s a depth and character to its piney, resiny, coniferous side not to be found in anything else I’ve tried. Yes, there are cinnamon and nutmeg and Noel-like spices, with heaping ladles of signature Serge Lutens stewed red fruits in there as well. But the heart of this is an absolutely beautiful, strong, lasting, clean-yet-organic conifer note. Woody to the Nth degree. It smells like the true essence of a living thing, not some sterile distillation formulated in a lab. For me it evokes crunchy walks over pine needles … and it makes me hungry!
Its colour matches its character – deep and warm and rich. Truly unisex – nothing butch about it at all, imho, and it’s far sweeter than you may expect from the note pyramid. But classy men could wear this one with ease.

Fille en Aiguilles is a scent that brings you into a dark and mysterious forest. The pine needles, incense and dried fruits create this atmosphere of the unknown. Don’t know why, but it reminds me of Red Riding Hood being stalked by the Big Bad Wolf. Feels like this version of the story would not end well…
I feel like this would fit the type of mysterious, silent type of person. Do try this one out, maybe you will find a different story in those dark woods.

Pine forests. Comforting or terrifying, it’s a fine line. Terrifying and we are in ‘Blair Witch’ territory. With this perfume we stumble through the pine forest with Hansel and Gretel. We find the witches gingerbread house sans witch, full of fruits and tempting things. She’s left a tot of whiskey. So we drink boozy fruits and inhale the pine scent whilst wearing aran jumpers. And it’s frickin awesome.

I love this. I started out with a 1 ml bottle and have been spraying it on me every day, when I should be trying my other samples.
It doesn’t smell like pine cleaner, that’s for sure. It smells like a nice, cool forest with fresh pine needles. I went ahead and ordered a 5 ml decant tonight cause I just can’t live without it.
I find the sillage to be reasonable and the longevity lasts all day for me.

  45. :

I don’t see it in the notes but I certainly smell labdanum! A wonderful woody-balsamic unisex fragrance. Even though I associate these kinds of perfumes with winter, there’s no weather that’d make it unbearable, as there’s nothing sweet in it that hot weather would make sickening, for example. Initially it’s very balsamic but it becomes smokier in the drydown. Beautiful fragrance indeed.

This smells exactly like the sap and resin my grandma used to collect from pine trees to make traditional cough syrup. Something I did enjoy drinking, but not at all something I want to smell like. If you want to smell like a particularly resinous pine forest, this is the one for you. I only tried a small spritz on my wrist, but it was too overwhelmingly sweet and sappy to leave on all day.

As another reviewer mentioned, this is a lovely walk through a pine forrest, leading to a little church. My only issue with this lovely pine incense blend, is that this the very exact sequence this fragrance develops. At first I’m in the forrest and the only thing I can smell is pine. The walk is brief, I open the church door, and for a few seconds there’s a heavenly mixture of green and smoke. Then the door shuts behind me, the forrest is gone, and only incense remains, and the church slowly warms up, someone has lit up candles, it all gets warmer and spicier, and rather less original. I wish I could stay suspended in front of the open church door a little longer.

This is the scent which has surrounded me all those times I have entered Orthodox Church. I adore it! Exactly the same. Perfect unisex because this is timeless and really has no gender.
Armani Prive Bois d’Encens has similar vibe, but it is more dry and smoky and therefore less pleasant.

To me, this is the smell of Christmas !!
Pine, spruce, incense, balsams and fruity fruits, spices and also sweet notes without reaching gourmand with a perfect balance between smoke with mystical flavor even religious, sweet camouflaged behind a golden wrap and balsamic woods decorated with lights of colors.
Sheldrake puts everything in the shaker and creates the magic of Christmas turned into aroma and one of his best compositions for Lutens.
Every year when the Christmas season approaches and I put the Christmas tree, ornaments on the fireplace and decorate the house, it is time to dust off my bottle of F.en and use it until the end of these holidays and so I do all years.
A wonder made aroma, good general quality and quite affordable within this range of fragrances.

I wish I smelled the pine in this. I put it on about 4 hours ago and it started out with a very strong smell of potpourri and calmed down to a spicy incense. Smelling FeA at the start was almost like taking a shot of alcohol because of that similar kick in the head you get right away. The sillage was moderate and you can tell this is a very well made and quality perfume but in the end, I don’t think it’s for me. Got the full bottle as an early Christmas present.

A walk in a beautiful pine forest…leading to a little church. I love the intoxicating scent of pine needles couples with incense. It is unusual, yet fresh and aromatic. I do not get much of the bay leaves. But I love wearing this when it’s cold outside….perfect for Christmas!

I inevitably encountered Fille En Aiguilles on my search for the ultimate conifer scent, but unfortunately this isn’t it for me. On my skin the other notes are totally overpowered by dried fruits and all I get is nondescript slightly spicy sweetness. No pine, no fir, no incense. No churches, forests or Christmas trees.
In addition to that, the performance is pretty miserable. It becomes a skin scent in 30 minutes and after 2-3 hours it’s gone. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not bad! It’s just “meh”. I prefer AG Nuit Etoilee or Tom Ford Private Blend Vert d’Encens for my conifer fix.

IT WAS THE ONE WHICH I WAS LOOKING FOR FOR A LONG TIME!!!! Las night a friend of mine called and told me that he has bought a new fragrance. Since I have tested many perfume and I have a lot of experience in many brands, he gave me 5 ml decant and asked me to tell him my feeling about it. I tested it and after 2 days i can tell u that IT IS REALLY SUPERB!!! “Fille en Aiguilles Serge Lutens” is a unisex perfume and suitable for any occasion which everyone enjoys it a lot. Although I can smell some fruity notes, It mainly has got Woody and spicy scent. I can smell pine a lo and after that Incense is the main accord. It is a warm perfume that is perfect in Fall and Winter. According to main accord of the scent I suppose it is better for people older than 30 years of age. I don’t know why, but It seems that It has got my attention significantly. Both Sillage and longevity are awesome. It is a perfume that I need to have it in my Perfume Collection!!! It is a perfume which every one should have one in their wardrobe, both men and women! Never miss it guys

Although this is one of my favorite scents I will not be buying another bottle when I’m done with the one I have now because the longevity on this is so bad. Less than two hours on me. I love cedar, pine and incense and FEA gives me all of those notes…and then some. Excellent fragrance, very poor longevity. I’ll stick to my Arso. It lasts forever.

Christmas tree, Christmas fruitcake, and Christmas Eve mass. Sweet and woody, with an almost patchouli-like mustiness. This is a fragrance I’ve heard a lot about but I’m not sure whether I like it or not. On the one hand, I’m not thrilled with that Christmas tree note (the pine); I love the smell of pine – and this is a gorgeous resinous, naturalistic pine – but not really in my perfumes. On the other hand, underneath the pine and fruit there’s that beautiful, seductive earthy note that I enjoy. While I do think this is a lovely fragrance I’m not sure if I can see myself wearing it.
Edit: I’m revisiting this – I can’t get it out of my head! I may actually end up buying a bottle of it, or at the very least a decant.

wish for a full bottle, this went on a sweet cinnamon with a dry, boozy fruit but then dried down to a lovely sweet incense

Very interesting creation, and very different from anything, I have smelled perfume-wise. I got a sample, because I really want a fresh pine fragrance, and this seemed like the perfect choice. I did try to like, I gave it 2 hours to work its way to my heart. I could hardly breathe for those 2 hours. So I guess, to my nose this smell different than the other reviewers, who rate it as pine. This is straight-up church incense to me, and it so heavy that I feel a headache coming, even though I scrubbed this off already. Either my nose is failing me, or I am just a lightwight when it comes to perfume. No matter how hard I try to like something that is not mainstream, I keep reaching for my headache pills after each attempt.
Nonetheless this is a good choice for those who like church incense.

This is resinous and refreshing. There is sweetness from the stewed fruit and spices, like the sticky sap from pine trees, as well as the bracing smell of the needles and frankincense. It is great, it works, and it reminds me of pine forests by the beach in summer time. As with some other Lutens creations, whilst I love this perfume, I do not know if I love to wear it. I have had a bottle but I did not reach for it enough to repurchase when it went.

Wonderful! just love it! It made me to feel standing right in the midst of the pine woods. Love it!

This opens with a blast of incense, warmed by spices and fruit, but certainly not Arabie-sweet. A minute in, the pine appears and the incense recedes, smelling more like resin than like a church. Very natural pine and incense bound together by just hints of fruit and spices, stay for hours quite linear on my skin. Intellectually, I can understand the Christmas association of a candle lit fir tree in a catholic church, but experiencing the perfume right now, this is so fresh and warm at the same time, for me it is a wonderful summer scent, reminding me of a mediterranean pine forest full of warm sunshine and light, right next to a sandy beach.
It will work in winter, too, but for me, this is a summer perfume, evoking sweet
