Description

The prestigious Italian fashion house of Gucci launches a new collection of fragrances under the creative director of Frida Giannini. It comes out in May 2012 named Flora by Gucci Garden Collection. The collection includes five most important blossoms outlined on the legendary Gucci scarf designed by Vittorio Accornero for Princess Grace of Monaco. These five new editions are: Glorious Mandarin, Gracious Tuberose, Gorgeous Gardenia, Glamorous Magnolia and Generous Violet.

“It’s a sort of bouquet of scents,” said Giannini for wwd, “So Gorgeous Gardenia because I wanted to underline the gorgeously feminine side of this fragrance. Glorious Mandarin because there’s a sort of euphoria in mandarin, since it’s such a sparkly fruit.”

In the process of making these fragrances, it was very important to distinguish them from one another. The idea is that each fragrance should reflect a facet of the same woman. The fragrances come in elongated hexagonal shaped bottles with transparent rather than gold stoppers.

The face of the advertising campaign is Abbey Lee Kershaw, shot by Solve Sundsbø. The fragrances are available as 50 and 100 ml Eau de Toilette, except mandarin and violet one that will be available exclusively at Gucci flag stores as 100 ml Eau de Toilette.

:)Instantly smells like guerlain insolence and guerlain rosa pop! That was the main reason why I purchased this gucci violets. I was in love with the powdery violet scent I got from the two guerlain fragrances. Also a bit of paco rabanne ultraviolet without the pepper. And this was spot on. If you love violets or anything powdery this will make your day. Perfect for summer weather. I get about 4 hours on on my clothes and hair.

Gucci thats the lead in the floral department. The scent is aptly named. This is the violet that just keeps giving.

I don’t normally seek out Gucci fragrances, they’re not my style. However, I was on a violet trip and I thought I would give this fragrance a go. I have to say I am reasonably satisfied with my purchase. I don’t think it’s got a lot of backbone, but it’s very pretty, in a spring time soft violet kind of way.
I think labelling this as ‘generous’ violet shows a distinctly ambitious view of the product, unless of course the marketing department decided to inject a sense of irony into the label. However, longevity…about 10 hours!
Nice office scent though, and compared to the absolutely vile blind buy I made along with this one, it’s saved the day. I can’t even begin to describe the other one…I won’t be naming it because I have to sell it first…after that, it will be all guns blazing.

Usually I don’t like Gucci fragrances, but the color and packaging made me curious (that’s marketing for you). At first it was sharp and alcoholic, then developed into something similar to Tresor Midnight Rose, but with far less sweetness. Or perhaps like a more expensive Lanvin Couture, sour, but with a more powdery finish. In any case, I quite like it and think that I need something like this in my wardrobe. Still haven’t decided if this will be the one, though.

As a violet lover this is an easy grab and go perfume for me. It is not my favourite violet scent by any means, but it is a cute and very wearable little number.
I have owned or tried all of the Gucci Flora flankers and this one is my second best. I like Gorgeous Gardenia the most but they are all nice easy florals for every day use.
Violet is by far the strongest note, but I do smell both the iris and the suede quite well. I do like the suede, it gives the fragrance a bit of an interesting twist I think. The drydown is a bit more powdery and sweet, but pleasant. I would describe it as a innocent and cute spring scent.
Longevity is medium on me at least.

The other day I purchased a five pack mini bottle gift set of the Gucci Flora scents. So I was really hoeful about this one. It sounded so lover aaaaaaaand wow was I disappointed. This one is hands down just gross. It reminds me of some weird smelling cleaning product. So sad!

Simple violet scent….if you like this flower is ok, but I get a very alcholic note which I don’t like, that makes me think of spirits (distilled)…maybe it’s the suede?!

A sensual and sweet violet perfume, a little deeper and more mature than april violets by yardley. Can defenatly smell the suede base, blended with candied violet. Stunning!

This is a nice entry-level violet + iris scent that feels very modern.
While violets can feel “old lady”, cosmetic-like, or dense and candyish, Generous Violet uses the powdery flower in the softest way possible. I smell a tang of watery green apple in the opening, which dissipates and is replaced by powdery floral sweetness. A cooling aspect from the iris and orris root is present throughout the duration of the composition, but like the violet, it is used in an “easy” way – not too steely, melancholy or cold, but cool and soothing instead, like resting under the shade of a big, beautiful tree. The suede note seems to function as a “blur tool” so no one note dominates.
I wore this while walking around my college campus recently – the building is all concrete with jutting, modern architecture. This scent fit the cool grays of the campus and the studious, deliberate way I was feeling. A nice little scent, especially for the cool, sunny days of Spring and Fall.

For me Generous Violet opens with an initial note of crisp white musk, before moving into a nice, light, dry tea rose. In the dry down, iris and a touch of soap. Very soft, no sillage.
    Where are the violets?

First off, I don’t understand why the violet is generous. That said, I liked this fragrance very much.
Initially I get a bit of iris, and within a minute the violet comes through and starts to dominate the fragrance. The powdery aspect gathers steam with time as well, and I suspect that if you don’t like powdery fragrances you may recoil in horror. There is nothing “wet” about this violet – it’s all powdery and very Victorian to my nose. There is a hint of sweetness. Lasting power is acceptable, and it stays quite close to the skin. In the battle of the violets, I greatly prefer Penhaligon’s Violetta and will stick to that for the moment. But who am I kidding! I will probably acquire this violet as well (in a moment of weakness, of course).

Great. I constantly got compliments. Soft and clean. The other comment that described it as “soapy” is pretty accurate. Soapy in a soft perfume way.
I’m very afraid that Gucci is going to discontinue this.

Nicely sweet and somewhat juicy fruity at first; almost like blackcurrent, but it quickly becomes “very” powdery. It’s so clean, soft but strong at the same time for being so powdery. The suede gives a very subtle masculine touch and I like that. One spritz on my neck and it lasts about 8-9 hours on me and it rarely happens that a scent lasts this long. All Floras by Gucci are pretty awesome. I may attempt to acquire them all.

Beautiful, fresh violet & iris scent, mysterious, ladylike and quite gentle. I like it very much! It is ozonic and aquatic, perfect for warm season.
Usually violet scents are too powdery to my nose, so I am so happy that it wasn’t this time!
Update: I’ve tested it again and yes, it is very nice, but I think that there is too much iris in this scent.

It has indeed a watery vibe, it is a nice violet scent, not the best, at least a fresh floral, feminine, nothing extraordinary ,but light and definitely airy!!
It isn’t my favorite in the Flora scents, it is mild, and a bit ordinary..

Ozonic and floral are good words to describe it. I can’t smell anything woody though.
At first when I sprayed it I felt a very strong alcohol scent. After some minutes it started to get soapy.
The more time passed the soapier it got. Smells like soap water or some cleaning product, not an expensive perfume.
Not good in my opinion but not the worst in this collection either.

This is an ozonic scent that my nose will only accept to wear in one season…Summer. I tried to wear it one day in the Spring, it was very wet, snowy, I didn’t really like it at all. But now in the heat, I find it much more tolerable. In any other season, the cooler air it is just a sharp ozonic slightly aquatic mess. In much warmer temps the violet isn’t overpowered by this,it is very lovely and vibrant, and I am able to catch the iris and orris, giving it a nice powdery touch. It is a very refreshing violet.
I would have liked to have more suede with this, but overall, this will be a nice non offensive summer scent. This one would be nice to wear to a bridal shower or wedding. Very understated and refined.

This perfume is true to it’s name, it’s a whole lot of violets :)!
The start is full of strong violets, which can be a bit too much for some. Then it gradually fades into a softer, gentle and lovely violet. There is also a hint of iris, giving its a slightly powdery feel.
I find it really comforting, gentle and stunning. I also feel like it’s quite dreamy, and love wearing it before I sleep. I absolutely love this perfume. It lasts quite a long time on my skin – around 8 hours, I can often smell the lingering violet when I wake up.

I found while wearing this perfume it starts out on me as a heavy violet with a powdery note, after a few hours it dissipates to a a sweet mild violet with a hint of a powdery note. I find it a bit strong to start with but it dries down to something milder and lovely.

@Perfumedsecrets “The fragrances are available as 50 and 100 ml Eau de Toilette, except mandarin and violet one that will be available exclusively at Gucci flag stores as 100 ml Eau de Toilette.”
I’m sorry but you’ll have to visit a flag store to be able to sample it – that is unless you can find samples online or get them from a friend. 🙁
By the way, to add to the description that states that the most Flora by Gucci scents are available in 50ml and 100ml, I’ve also seen 30ml EDT bottles.

Where can I find this perfume? None of the counters seem to carry it. It’s missing…haha. All I wanted was a sample.
