A truly beautiful animalic fragrance that feels like Bracken… on steroids. With civet. That smells like faeces. I actually love it so much. Its planets away from Figment Woman, which is not unusual for Amouage but the two are entirely unrelated. Which is good, FW was hard to get fully for me. This is a leathery, foresty fragrance that I can’t stop thinking about. Need!

@Morgoth01 How are dislikes unfair? Reviews are subjective, so if there is a dislike option, and one happens to dislike this fragrance, then what’s the problem? Being that scents are subjective, then the fact that you love it is great for you. Hopefully it quickly gets discounted so that you can stock up.

This one received lots of dislikes which is unfair in my opinion. It’s a gorgeous perfume especially if applied during the colder months. People weren’t ready for it’s strong animalic and earthy notes thats why I guess it didn’t sell well like the other Amouage offerings. I’m sure in 10 or 15 years this will be remembered as a classic and unique creation
Longevity and projection are both great. On my skin it stays more than 8 hours and on clothes it could stay like forever and I’m not even exaggerating. Impressive performance like the other Amouages

I have sampled this a few days ago. Oh my God. This is strong stuff, not for children. It is earty like real dirt, and everything else smells animalic from middle to base notes. Skanky, dirty and smelling like animals in the jungle.

At the opening I smell earthy, animalic, musk and florals. The musk has just a hint of unwashed armpit. This quickly takes a back seat to bright lemon, powdery germanium and a sweetness from the labdanum. Undertones of the stankey animal musk linger that remind me of Kouros, Jovan Musk, Papillon’s Salome and even Muscs Koublai Khan. During the drydown I smell the Amouage incense. After reading other reviews I was expecting something wilder. The musk note is strange but well in the background.
I applied this from a dabber sample vial. It has been my experience that Amouage (and most) scents perform much better from a sprayer. Sillage and projection were average for about three hours before becoming soft. Unisex leaning masculine. Not terrible for work and I don’t find it sexy; a casual scent that’s actually not too difficult to wear. This would probably work well in most weather. To my surprise I liked this quite a bit. It uses some interesting, maybe weird notes in a nice composition. Lots of evolution as well which is fun. For the price I expect this to perform a bit better but it could be my application method. Not interested enough in a decant but a nice Amouage.

I am trying out the amouage line to find out why it has such a high price and see which suits me if any. I tried out this figment yesterday evening. It certainly different from what I am used to like ysl kouros or la nuit homme or dior homme intense. This smells simply like a few hours after it has rained on a dusty untared road in west africa where I am from. There is a hint of wet rotten wood and just a faint hint of geranium. The other ingredients like lemon and labdanum are not present for me. Once in a while you get this strange sweet smell for a second or two but this parfum has no vanilla in it.
i don’t know which ingredient is doing that. The sillage is really enormous. Woke up in the middle of the night still smelling this parfum and a day after it is still just so strong in the shirt i wore yesterday. You just have to be a confident man to wear this parfum.

I smelled it roughly 6 months ago ( see my previous review).
    Since then I bought it!
To anyone who says it’s going to offend, let me tell you this- I wear it to the hospital (2 -3 sprays) so far no complaints and actually had someone compliment me!!!
    Smell is so complex
    Opening
GREEN DAMP COOL MOSS growing on in a dewy forest ground.
    Middle
Earthy mossy Animalic note shine through with undertone of soggy wood.
    Dry down
Earthy sandalwood with slight vetiver comes out. Not a creamy sandalwood.
My brother recently commented that he smells sandalwood coming from somewhere, I was so impressed (as he has no interest in fragrances!!)
I am still getting used to it. Definitely one of the ones that takes time.
    Bit old school macho
    Powerful
Performance 8/10 (last around 6-8 hours)
    Occasion – dress up only
    Age 25+
    Earthy humid green!
    Amazing presentation too!
    8/10 overall
Amouage doing what they do best

This one was an odd ball. Putting it in basic words, and sorry if i offend anyone who loves this, but its a horse piss on dry soil scent. Exactly the moment when clouds of dirt come up after heavy drops hit it and mix with the smell of yellow liquid. Who ever worked on a farm, or know horses, will understand. Who never been in such a situation, wouldn’t guess, and technically, anyone can pull it off. Its not horrible, just different.

in tne blistering sun this monster changes shape and the animalic, musky and earthy aspects get more sensual, so if you want experience this juice in another wonderful dimension try it in a very warm evening, you will be pleasantly surprised!

I have to admit, I’ve been torn on this one for quite some time. It’s been on and off my want list several times since its release. Something about it is quite captivating and whenever I test it from my decant, I can’t stop sniffing my wrist. The main problem I have with Figment is that, for the life of me, I would never know when or where to wear it! Comparisons to Zoologist Bat (which I own) are valid, so owning this too would feel redundant in my collection. Another thing is that sadly, something about it feels incomplete and leaves me wanting for more – If only it developed just a little more unexpectedly it would already have a place in my collection. But…..MAN!!! Do I LOVE that gorgeous blue bottle!

Scent – mentholated soil incense .
Season/Time of Day – I prefer to use this one in the colder months, day or night.
    Projection – I did get noticed, I didn’t get a compliment.
    Longevity – I get 12hrs consistently.

  14. :

Right from the start you smell heavy animalic and earthy notes. Not much movement, it stays pretty much the same throughout its life. I don’t detect much complexity in this one.
Figment has a primal, raw vibe but sadly is very hard to find a suitable occasion to wear it as it can come off repulsing. Smells quite dirty 🙂 Sorry Amouage, I didn’t like this one.

Figment Man opens up huge and feral! Bright, fresh lemon. A throaty, spicy pepper. Deep animalic notes of earth and soil. I’d say that the ‘animal accord’ listed has a lot of civet in it with a muskiness that is slightly urinous in a very subdued, completely non-offensive way. As it dries you can begin to detect the subtlety sweet geranium come through along with some wet woods. The woody notes almost smell like old, dry, dead wood that has been dried and rehydrated multiple times over the years as it lay on the ground in someone’s flowerbed somewhere, and the labdanum present isn’t the sweet, gummy resin that’s secreted by our friend the rock rose plant, but is more like the cistus labdanum oil that’s made from the steam distilled leaves from the same plant. It’s a very bright/fizzy green, almost camphorous smell that’s robust and sharp. All of this excitement mixing together reminds me of gardening, fresh overturned earth, and being outside in the wet, springtime months. As it dries down further you lose the lemon and the pepper, but a smooth and smoky vetiver emerges in the background that sits beside that damp earthiness that stays present the entire duration of the fragrance. It has a vintage Kouros-like kick to it that’s definitely not typical of a lot of current fragrances on the market, and people that tend to like very robust animalics that long for vintage style fragrances, but are open to a modern twist, should definitely try this. I can see the comparison when people mention Zoologist: Bat, but the comparison is fleeting at best and can only be made because of the dampness of the earthen accord. Figment Man is far more complex and is more reminiscent of actual dirt/earth rather than the synthetic wet drywall-like note I got from Bat. I’ve also recently had the pleasure of getting to sample some beautiful mitti attar and I don’t know if that’s what Christopher Chong and Annick Menardo were going for, but I want to say that Figment Man is almost like an extremely amped up and more complex interpretation of something like that. This is a must try for anyone looking for realistic green earth scent, but be warned…this is definitely not for the faint of heart!

@Jarrock32 – quite a few reviewers elsewhere have commented on this similarity to Bat (the earthy aspect).

  18. :

    3 out of 5

Really.. Nobody can see the similarity with Bat – zoologist? This is exactly the same earthy soil sensation, vegetable, roots, and a little bit of bracken man, something that it´s not completely out of place, because of the earthy green character of the fragrance. If I could smell banana or some kind of fruits, it would be hard to see the differences between this and Bat. It is a bit weird, but Bat is too, and wins awards.
    Edited: @NZFH – You’re right, I’m checking it later.
    UPDATE:
After a few wearings, I’m starting to understand the real concept of the fragrance. This is not a agressive one like Bat. It uses that kind of earthy smell but on skin the result is an airy, subtle, smooth fragrance even fresh sometimes, based on a base of vetiver and soft woods, in an iso super-e mood in the texture. Also I can detect some similarities with honour man base, with that vetiver and geranium, acid green. Weird and ancient construction at the same time to create a new perfume, with classical estructure but modern smell in the way that Geza Schoen could do. Interesting. A must try for vetiver lovers and honour man fans.

Another Beast from Amouage after their successful INTERLUDE MAN
LASTS all day on skin with a great projection for first 4-5 hours!
    Amazing combination of Vetiver-Wood-Earthy-animalic notes!
    A Masterpiece!

I tried it on my skin and the result was overwhelming. After some 18-20 hours and overnight it was still very present, although quite discrete, but it almost prevented me from sleeping. It was VERY intense and very intrusive. The first notes were gone very quickly, couldn’t make much of them, but what lasted for hours was something reminding me of retton beet with a lot of mould. The final notes were gentler and quite nice, But they resulted after more than 12 hours. It is indeed something one likes or dislikes intensely, nothing in the middle.

This is definitely not going to be liked by thr majority, unless you like weird smelling perfumes. The only way I kind of made it work is to mix it with Lilac Love from Amouage.
Long story short I don’t recommend it.

Amouage is one of those niche brands that continues to amaze even after it has fallen on the public’s graces more widely. Although the brand has made fragrances that are less challenging, which refer to classic ideas and can be seen as less creative, when you least expect there are creations like Interlude, who divide opinions and stand out for the risky proposition. Figment Man goes along the same line although it’s not related olfactory with Interlude.
The idea in Figment Man is to explore the juxtaposition of illusions, which its makes perfectly from the name to the bottle to the perfume itself. The first thing that needs to be clear is that there is nothing of Fig here, much less the fiction or illusion of a fig if the brand wanted to play with the name. Another illusion is with regard to the bottle: if you expect a fresh, serene or clean perfume, figment is not for you.
What Figment Man is brilliantly is another of the perfumes that revive the opulence and animal and erotic touch of the perfumes of the 80’s – in my opinion, this is the illusion that it is passing you. At first I was impressed by this, for it is as if before me I had applied one of those animal-like fougere leather combining herbs, the floral touch of geranium, the leathery aroma of the castoreum, and a more animalic and dirty nuance. There is something here in the dynamics that distantly refers me to the classic Gucci Nobile to then puts me in front of a Van Cleef & Arpels perfume or even a Caron. However, when you think that the perfume goes in this direction, there is a curious humid and earthy aroma with nuances of beet. There is certainly no geosmin listed in the composition, but once you feel it your scent is unmistakable. This gives an unexpected and innovative touch to the composition. I do not know if it will be a sales success because it is a difficult perfume, but it goes for the most interesting creations of the amouage I have ever tried.

Gorgeous scent, sexy as hell… way too animalic for most but still irresistible.
I get again a hope for Amouage. Green, fierce, foresty, carnal…
Don’t blindbuy, jewel for the few who dare to scream “Im here, come to me!”. I may not be that person but how I wish I were!

Was shown Bracken, Beach hut and Figment today.
The first two were disappointing and dull to my nose, but this one is more than interesting. The first reaction was definately repulsing but thats what made it interesting to me.
To say it smells earthy is an underestimation.
This smells more than a bit gothic, not to say like death.
If you’re looking for something like the Adams family in a bottle, this is the right scent.
Definitely aweful for most perfume wearers, nevertheless interessting as hell. It is groundbreaking and new, I think, because it adds a new olfactory sense which I would name funeral notes.

So incredibly earthy! It’s packed full of earthy, dirty and deteriorated dry woody smells. I absolutely love this scent. It’s completely unwearable for me but my goodness I do love the way it smells!

Temple, temple made of woods with incenses constantly burning around statues. Wood for temple is very old and dry. It has no resins, any drop of juice it possessed, ages ago, are gone. The walls look like made of driftwood but this wood never touch freshness of seawater. The only elements this wood was constantly tormented by are wind and snow.
Figment is different and word “different” best described this perfume. In my opinion it is real piece of art. All ingredients are mixed well and perfectly balanced therefore it is almost impossible find what creator have used to prepare such amazing juice. Probably it is goat. Drop of goat fur coat. This ingredient is very rare in perfumes thus may be it makes Figment such unusual. Whatever it is I like this fragrance a lot. Also it has amazing projection and spillage. But I have some very strange observation. I went perfume store to try Figment. I used tester to spray my wrist 2-3 times. After many hours and even after two showers I was able to detect perfume. So I thought it has spillage and lasting power as nuclear weapons. As I’m in love with such strangers my decision was obvious. I purchased bottle. The perfume is identical, still my love, but longevity is only so so. I have no idea what is going on. Perfume I bought seems to be original as the shop is real, normal, exclusive perfumery. Nevertheless I recommend Figment if you want be the only one.

    Holy shittt!!!
    Amouage is ballsy!
Figment smells like dank Animalic (wet animal+ musk) soil.
It resembles something naturally found but I can’t put my finger on it.
I have never smelled a perfume smell like this
For some reason it reminds me of heavy gardening (digging , sweating , plantation/rootiness)
This is one of the frags that smells quite nice from far away but this will be so hard to pull off and avoid over applying
Very addictive but in the end it kinda made me feel a bit nauseated.
    Strict cold weather
    Mature
    Masculine
    Abstract
This is just cool but probs more of an art than beauty accessory
I don’t really see it convey a particular message or statement.
For the effort / creativity 10/10
For the realistic application – 5/10
A small sample is enough. Must try

Wet soil and deep musky animalic notes.
Polarising to say the least, the opposite of a safe office scent.
Some said it smells of wet soil, others “wet dog” or “mould”…the choice it’s up to you.
I blindly bought it and I don’t regret it, this really a cutting edge for Amouage, you may love it!
Most likely you will hate it!
It’s truly animalic and I really like it!

The first day I sampled Figment I said to the person at the store that Christopher Chong should be releived of all his duties at Amouage. It smelled of hey and an old attic and I couldn’t wait to get it off.
I went back to the same store a day later and asked to sample it again. I sat for a few minutes and there it was. It totally changed to something I thought was heaven. It’s definitely a too each his own fragrance.
I can appreciate all the reviews on Figment as everyone will wear a fragrance differently, but I totally love this. I do wish it lasted longer though.

Try be fore buy;Something I should have done with this one, This fragrance clears the room out like a nuclear bomb, It is dry and dry and dry; For all of those who has tried it; will get where I am coming from, On skin it is unbearable and on clothing it is miserable, I wore it to a wedding last summer and as soon as I took my suit off; My wife took it to the cleaners, Some describe this as earthy, I live in Canada and never smell earth that smells like that, In my opinion it smells like clothing that was washed and was forgotten in the washer! I have almost all of Amouage creations, So far Figment and Myths is somewhat of a Question for me,
    Scent ?
Silage; The sky is the limit!
Long Lasting; The Sky is the limit!
    Thanks,

    Animalic – earthy – aromatic
    Color impression: steel blue
Figment Man is an animalic aromatic earthy perfume, akin to YSL Kouros in animalic identity. Nevertheless, a zesty lemon, soft touch of fig and barbershop geranium render animalic accord but it appears pure in drydown beside vetiver, sandalwood and wet earthy green notes.
I had high expectations from Figment but I truly can’t see anything special about it to convince me add one or two stars to my rating. Not my type, though good perfume for who appreciates a weary touch of perfume-covered unwashed body odor in his cologne.

    Hi everyone,
I am a big fan of Amouage. I recently made a purchase and they threw this one in as sample. I appreciate Amouage for their original fragrances, but the problem with Figment is that the scent is waaaaay too close to urinal cakes. Not sure about other countries, but in the US, the urinals in men’s bathrooms often have a urinal cake in them, which looks like a white hockey puck. It has a very distinct smell and Figment unfortunately smells just like it. This and Fate (only because I personally don’t care for cumin) are my least favorite of this house. I appreciate the attempt at “I have been out horseback riding all day” smell, but this is just too close to urinal cakes. 🙂

This is a pumped up version of 2016 Annick Menardo’s Peau d`Ailleurs by Starck. The same synthetic mold, wet soil vibe, only with a more animalic base.

The soil note and the synthetic blend “Animalis” which is an accord used to smell animalic, described as the smell of goats hair, and often falsley listed as Civet on note breakdowns, are the main notes I smell from the opening to the dry down.. I hate this one. Very surprised they make use of such a cheap synthetic as a main note.

The first foray of Amouage into earthy animalic territory is a winner all the way. Conceived as a tribute to the land of Bhutan, the perfume bears many resemblances to the more potent and not easily available Aksum (Pryn Parfum). The main ingredient is an animalic note not revealed cleverly by Amouage (but is Goat Hair Tincture), which is sweetened with lemon, geranium, pink pepper, sandalwood, vetiver, labdanum, guaiac, and also includes a soil accord. The resulting juice is quite spot on in evoking a mysterious and exotic landscape such as Bhutan. This is a very bold and interesting foray for a house known for its more traditional Oud-based Arabian perfume offerings. I think many will find this one challenging, as evidenced by the low overall Fragrantica score. But those into adventurous and exotic Orientals should put this one on their list. I thought Aksum was the best release of 2017 and was hoping it would be more wearable. Figment is the answer. A wearable earthy animalic that deserves much love. Enjoy!

Amouage’s Figment Man is just a gorgeous masterpiece of a fragrance! The opening smells of earth, and lemons. Think about that for a minute. What kind of parfum alchemy does that take – Earth and lemons at the same time. Then the animalic notes begin to rise to the surface, demanding to be noticed. These animalic notes are heavy, sumptuous, and subtly sexual. Then dodging in and out of the animalics are the wood and floral notes. There’s even a smell like mint, menthol or camphor in there too. For some faint hearted people Figment will be challenging to wear, perhaps too much of a challenge? But, if you’re not afraid of a parfum that smells like earth, florals and sex – then you will definitely enjoy Figment. Generally I never assign a gender to scents that I like. If I like it, I wear it whether it’s marketed at men or women. But I do have to say that Figment Man definitely falls into the more masculine category. But I think any woman who likes a challenging scent would enjoy this scent as well. I’ll have to sample Figment Woman too!

  42. :

    5 out of 5

Figment Man & Women are both quite amazing on card, but on skin they both achieve something quite strange.
I knew upon smelling it that they were Amouage fragrances. They definitely have that aspect. There seems to be some connection to the Bracken scents… but they’re just odd.
Confusing, a little bit of a mess… yet compellingly interesting, but perhaps not enough to buy a bottle. I’ve smelt both around 3 or 4 times on skin and I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt by saying that they are definitely layered and endlessly interesting… but, perhaps, maybe not for wearing? At least not for 9 out of 10 situations.
The listed animalic notes are definitely there, but it almost smells… beautiful? Not skunky, stanky or skanky. But it can be all three, also. Just odd.
This seems to be Amouage’s come back after 2-3 banal releases. Truly strange fragrance for people who don’t want to fit in, but also wanna shout ‘Look at me… I’m not here to please you’

Perfect scent to wear to a job interview (if you don’t want the job). I honestly fail to realize what the perfumier is trying to accomplish here. Is that a bad thing? Mostly, and kind of. But there is a quasi brilliant aspect to Figment Man that is masked by the civet-like earthy and animalic quality. I think it’s like an artist’s canvas which has some horrific imagery with a touch of beauty hiding in the background. Do I own more daring scents than this? Hell yes! Caron’s L’Anarchiste pre reformulatuon comes to mind, among several others.
I actually enjoy the pink pepper, guaiac wood, and sandalwood, which my nose can pick out being a lover of these three notes.
Definitely sample before purchasing. It’s actually better than some of my statements make it out to be.
If anyone likes Fate Man, it is not a stretch that you might come to like this. Not that they smell alike, and certainly not a resounding endorsement, but Figment Man is not a mainstream fragrance and will be for special tastes exclusively.

I am a novice but not sure why this perfume is not rated higher. It’s an absolute masterpiece in my eyes (nose).
Strong notes of animal, dirt and vetiver. Don’t pick up the geranium but my palette isn’t so refined.
Word of warning. The sillage on this is a beast. Three or more sprays and you’re going to make some bad first (or second) impressions.

First I must say, even Amouage is known for being no slouch in longevity, projection and sillage, and I knew what to expect in this regards, still it caught me off guard. All 3 are simply monstrous!
When it comes to scent, at this point (after 2 tries of sample I got), I truly can’t tell if I love it or hate it.
No one can dispute this is no ordinary and daring scent. It’s true unbearable stinker if applied in large amount, and due to its power 2 full sprays already would be too much! It would smell outright like something between rotting leaves and shoe polish! Also, it’s one of scents that smells much better in whiffs from distance rather than up close.
First time I wore it, I had 2 ladies in store complimented me from 10 ft away, one saying “OMG you smell so good!”, and other saying “Yes, you smell like fresh garden soil, grass and sunflowers!” And I thought myself “Don’t come any closer, because to me up close it smells like fresh compost in the garden!”
I tested it in late August and early September. I will try it in late Fall, and come back to update this review when I’ll make my mind if I love it or hate it.

Amouage are back with a very solid release after a couple of…how do I put this? Not ‘dodgy’ as such recent efforts but not what I would consider in to be upto par with their usual trailblazing originality. However, I hate Figment. (How’s that for a conflicting opening statement?)
I do though. The animalistic nature of this scent coupled with the surrounding notes make for a stinky, pissy, grassy, resinous, uplifting, yet heavy urinal cake of controversy. When you stiff passed that I get the soil tincture, patchouli, labdanum, leather, geranium, grasses, vetiver but it can’t help but be wrapped up in a dispicable, dirty protest of a fragrance. I get it …I do, it’s the trendy, natural house (from California or Brooklyn or somewhere) but still with a middle eastern influence at the heart of it and that for me is the epitome of Amouage. It’s east meets west…and everyone gets fleeced.
Seriously though I respect this fragrance but will scrub it from my body to never return. Oh and only if I’m lucky because the performance and silage are MASSIVE.

    Wow, this is something special.
Figment is sharp, and sets away a super realistic smell of the deepest of earth. Imagine yourself being buried 1 kilometre into the soil of the earth. This is what you would smell. I have never smelled anything like this and I’m surprised some people find this similar to anything.
    Lasting power is very good.
But, as with many Amouages, creativity and originality not always mean nice. I like having experienced Figment, but I could never wear this.
    9/10 for originality
    5/10 as a scent.

    Not my cup of tea.
BUT if you are willing to upgrade your animalistic/ skanky scent of choice ,let’s say from Dior oud leather level I belive that Figment is the next level of skankiness.
The lasting power ?! It’s AMOUGE an Arabic word means “the waves of the sea” you know by default it’s ALWAYS there!!
    Cheers!!

This is the first amouage that I kind of smelt before….a refined version of Parfum De Marley’s Habdan..I’ll definitely get this after I finish my bottle of Habdan…kind of disappointed…thought it would be original smelling.

Amouage fragrances never fail to capture my imagination, and this one is no exception to that rule.
Individual scent associations are a fascinating thing. I do not get urine-soaked dogs, cat-pee in gardens, or even raw leather from this fragrance. On the first blast from the vial, I was taken somewhere else: India. Or more precisely, I got incense. Not as in the traditional Omani frankincense, however: more like an old musky Indian incense stick I used to burn. Even more specifically, the smell of that stick burning in the musty damp bedroom of an old flat with wooden furnishings. I think it must be a combination of the sandalwood combining with the animalic musks and the earth.
The much commented-on earthy note is indeed quite pronounced. However, it is not like a big slab of earth upon which other notes are placed. It’s more subtle than that – more like a fine sprinkling of soil covering all the other notes, infusing them with a general earthiness.
Overall, this is not a crude, heavy fragrance. It is light, subtle, and exquisitely nuanced. It is genuinely exotic and at times, really does suggest a rainforest or jungle, perhaps in India or South-East Asia. Evokes a genuinely exotic feel.
The development of this perfume is interesting. Most Amouage fragrances I have tried have developed in several very clear, well-defined phases or movements. This one is rather different. After the opening settles down, we have something akin to a complex prism that keeps throwing off different facets (somewhat like the translucent turquoise bottle that houses this fragrance). There is a chameleon effect on skin: one moment it smells of wood, the next moment of grass, etc. And, I should add, a disappearing trick: one minute it’s there; the next it has gone – only to reappear, stronger than before ….
Undoubtedly, Figment Man is an impressive olfactory art-form and achievement, indicative of a pioneering and innovative creative spirit.
UPDATE: I have to disagree with the comments about “monstrous” projection and sillage. That’s a bit misleading. Yes, the projection is HUUGE for the first hour; after that, it rapidly dies and becomes a skin-scent for most of its duration. Most people I asked could not smell anything on me after 3 hours. That said, the longevity is great – 14+ hours – mainly as a skin-scent.
