Fruitier and sweeter than I really like in leather-based scents – but a really respectable substitute for days when you don’t want to use up precious drops of Serge Lutens Daim Blond (the nearest thing to this I’ve smelled) or pay stratospheric prices for SL Cuir Mauresque or Tom Ford Tuscan Leather (which would be several rungs up on the ladder of quality as well as individuality). Nothing wrong with Fan di Fendi Leather Essence at all: it’s well blended, tasteful, maybe a tiny tiny bit blowsy/cloying at the top, during the first half hour, but then calms down and it’s fairly classic elegance. Lots of tanned leather (it’s not raw funky stuff like Mancera Wild or similar) and clouds of vanilla/apricot/plum going on as well … at one moment I could have sworn I detected a note of synthetic strawberry, which is the sort of thing to make you think “ughghghghgh” but which honestly never grated. Doesn’t project far or last long = on me it became a skin scent only within 2-3 hours and barely detectable after 4-5 – but it’s affordable enough to spray with abandon.
If leather scent is your bag (ha!) this should certainly be worth a try. If leather repels you, though, this wouldn’t be the one that changes your mind.

I did find that while I loved wearing this fragrance, it wasn’t lasting long enough on me either. So I layered it with Cabochard which can be bit untamed on me at times. Voila! a beautiful blend with a deeper smokiness of leather balanced with flowers. Floats me through romantic dates as well. Stays close to the skin and is great for snuggling up.

This goes on a fruity vanilla then the leather comes up and it turns into a rich leather vanilla that is just the right blend of sweet and dry.

I guess it’s all about the skin chemistry. Some people complaining about low silage, I use to think the same……But ones I went to a grocery store to get a flowers for my friend, I was walking around trying to choose the right bouquet. And lady who was 4-5 feet away from me told me ” This flowers are beautiful but they have no smell at all, all I can smell is your perfume and it’s smells wonderful”. I absolutely love this fragrance, it’s modern, urban lady’s perfume, sophisticated and nothing like any other fragrances out there. I am on my second bottle right now, pretty sure it will be repurchased.

Extremely disappointing purchase. What leather? And after too brief a time, what perfume?
Yeah, yeah, I shudda known bettah! Modern mainstream perfumes tend to be 75% of the time a waste of money and energy.

Sillage very low, close to the skin. Not sure about longevity because sprayed about 30 minutes ago, but have a feeling not long since I have to shove my nose into my arm after spraying liberally. I really like this scent but it needs more power and length. It is what it is for $30-40/bottle. It reminds me of Maitre’s Cuir Fetiche but that one surpasses this. This is up front leather and vanilla that does not change much. Leather and vanilla. More of an amber tonka than a cheap vanilla. I blind bought and like it. It is not one of the top fragrances ever but I am glad that I own it. There are some that are far more expensive that hold up less inspirationally.

This is gonna sound weird but…I definitely got an Aquolina vibe off the first spritz. Yes, this seems like it would be in Pink/Gold/Black Sugar family somewhere. It wasn’t THE sweetest tonka bean I’d ever smelled but it definitely registered as legitimately “sweet” to my nose. I liked it!
Sadly, as another reviewer also posted, the drydown soon came and disappointed with its HEAVY resin scent. The midnotes of vanilla and orange are perfect…but soon spoiled by what seems to me like a highly synthetic leather that just does not sit well on my skin.
I’d really love to have this perfume finish with its mid-notes – that would be perfect for me.
As it is, I have a full bottle up for swap to anyone in the States.

A blind buy that I was expecting to be like Cabochard or Azuree but it’s not. Other posters have said that it’s strength and silage are not great, but on me it’s a monster. This is an intense power house with a vintage vibe!
The leather is at the forefront and harmonises well with the vanilla and musk. Lasting power is amazing, it’s still evident in the morning after 8 hours sleep and well into the afternoon.
Fan di Fendi Leather Essence reminds me of a well worn vintage purse with hints of lipstick and powder and probably more suited to a mature woman. At first I wasn’t sure that it was a keeper, but the dry down kept bringing me back. It’s very sophisticated.

    Interesting blind buy.
At first it reminded me of something I’ve smelt before – a celeb scent, in fact (just can’t quite place which one). After a while the leather comes in and it starts to smell like someone wearing a celeb scent in a car with new leather seats – Lol! Give it a while and it turns very leathery – perhaps too much. I think I prefer it between the middle notes and dry down where the amount of leather is just right.

Fan di Fendi Leather Essence is a Heavy Oriental floral with a smoky and sweet resinous character and warm, animalic undertones. Though this Fan di Fendi flanker features leather in its name, it would be a bit of a mistake to classify it as a leather perfume. Leather does feature prominently, but it is so well-blended with elemi resin that the effect is more cathedral and spiced musk than leather handbag and high heels. And, while those seeking a straightforward leather may be disappointed, oriental lovers will rejoice: Fan di Fendi Leather Essence is an incredibly beautiful one.
Silage is strange with this one – the scent will not precede you, but the cloud filling your immediate personal space is thick and intense in the first few hours. You may not offend your neighbors, but you will certainly overwhelm yourself if a light hand is not used.
I’d classify FdFLE as a heavy hitter with moderate spread. The scent continues to project with intensity for several hours, and the deepening of the smoke and powder effect actually seems to make it more powerful at the 4 hour mark than it is at first spray. This is high quality juice.
10 hours into the wear, FdFLE still projects. The cloud has dissipated now, and I catch milder, softer whiffs of candied, syrupy, almost citric vanilla, and the smoke from a fireplace. I am quite impressed by the tenacity of this fragrance, the journey it takes, and the understated and subtle beauty of its far dry-down.
Enthusiastically recommended for oriental lovers whose tastes lean toward the classics (like Shalimar and Coco), and to those who enjoyed Kenzo Jungle L’Elephant, Tresor L’Absolu, and the original Fan di Fendi. Skin test is recommended prior to purchase. Beautifully done!
*Note: To those whose bottles appear to be green – swipe your finger over the corner of the green portion of the bottle, going from back to front. You should find that the green coloring comes from a plastic scratch-protection shield, which can be removed.

    Oh she is a beauty!
Fan di Fendi Leather Essence is not currently on the Fendi website and all the write ups I’ve seen have been via European beauty blogs, websites etc. So I’m guessing this one has not yet been officially released in the US. But I hope that it is because I really do not want it to become obscure and hard to find.
This is a perfect “handbag” leather scent. Nothing harsh or tarry. The opening is quite powdery. Rose/leather/tonka. Drydown comes quickly though and the elemi (love!) really starts to shine through. Giving a nice resinous/Oriental quality.
I never thought I’d find another leather/elemi to love after Les Garconnes Homage a Gabrielle was discontinued. So I am kind of over the moon about Leather Essence.

I went to try this perfume at The Baie, unfortunately I really don’t like it way to powdery for me..the leather scent fades after a few minutes and then the powdery scent sets in and doesn’t go away.. it is powder and leather 🙁

This is a lovely mix of leather and florals done juuust right. I also enjoy the intense version and would say that Leather Essence offers the perfect twist of that. This is how Hermes L’eu Kelly edp should have smelled like IMO. It’s not as harsh as Kelly edt either. I refer to Kelly since my choiche was between Kelly edp and this one, when looking for a classy leather scent. Since I enjoy a more feminim leather perfume, this is right up my alley. Way better lasting power than the original Fan di Fendi, which I swapped away because of the lack of just that. I might get this one at the airport right away since it will be hard to find. It’s truley amazing!
I’m taking the time to write this review by the pool, one hour before leaving my vaccation on Palma, that’s how great this juice is.
UPDATE: I bought it. It’s lovely and I’m glad I did, they only had two bottles left in Switzerland so I grabed one. The bottles seem to be made in different colours, since the tester was kind of red I was really suprised when my bottle were green! I’v heard people refer to Leather Essence as powdery, that might be true, but I can’t tell. Powder is a note that disappear immediate on my skin. The lether note is pretty subtle and very well blended, perhaps too well blended. One more drop of leather would have been nice. That is my only complain so far, if there was juuust a little bit more leather I would enjoy this soft, intense and cosy scent even more.

This looks really interesting (not saying I’m at all happy to see yet another Fan di Fendi Flanker) but I do love a leather note in a scent, more common and nice with men’s scents it’s even more intriguing when it’s tossed into a women’s fragrance…b/c I feel like if it’s done a certain way it can almost border unisex. The bottle and how it’s done in those colors is just beautiful && the notes sound like it will smell heavenly, I’m ok with the name but kinda not really feeling the name I feel like yeah ok “Leather Essence” is to the point people will know there’s leather in it, but I think if they did a different play on words, && maybe used Cuir or beings it is an Italian House maybe used some Italiano…like “Essence di Cuoio” which simply translates to Essence of Leather, it would help make it sound even more expensive & classy…ok maybe not b/c that’s kind of hard to pronounce lol but you get what I mean. Anyways really excited to try this if it makes it to the US, we shall see! 🙂
