I like this as an everyday scent, I’m surprised how strong it is when first applied, especially with what seems to my nose to be a pungent black pepper note that is very sharp for the first 10 minutes or so. After that it fades into a musky little floral with the pepper still there in the background, also freesia, lily and lilac. I got this many times as a sample from Fragrancenet, like many other people here, and I like it more than average based on most reviews here. One thing I can say is it has the sillage and potential to last longer than one of my favorites, Simply Belle. This lasts and projects how I wish that one does, oh well. It’s nice but not exceptional, and I wouldn’t spend money on a full bottle of this at the current price.

    A horrible, synthetic violet!!

I’m surprised this gets so many dislikes. I definitely think the name doesn’t suit the scent, but I really don’t dislike this. I normally have an aversion to florals. To me, it smells like a fancy lobby of a 5 star hotel. Sillage and longevity are fine on me.

Exceptionally horrible and cheaply made. FragranceNet can’t give this stuff away. But they try exceptionally hard!

I just received a sample of this and put it on an hour ago. This is so far soft but very floral, silliage seems on the light side of moderate (arm’s length) but it seems to come and go in waves which I like since I don’t think I’d enjoy being saturated in fragrance. Wearing a scent for the first time in two years. I believe this a very good starting point, not heavy enjoyable for a woman wanting to feel pretty.

I just tried out a sample that was sent to me with my Fragrancenet order. My immediate thought was “aaahhh, that’s nice.” This is a fresh smelling fragrance that would best be worn on a summer day, or after getting out of the shower in the morning when you need a pick-me-up. I just put it on 20 minutes ago and have not yet gotten to smell the dry down, but right now it smells like a nice blend of floral, aquatic and citrus. I am not sure why there are so many negative reviews about this perfume unless it is a chemistry issue. Admittedly, I do not have interactions with any scents. Typically each perfume smells on my skin the way it does on a test strip. Going to order a bottle right now so I will have it on hand for next summer.

    Unexceptional.

My sample vial didn’t say for women or for men. It smells very feminine, so I assume it’s this one…
The opening notes resemble a non-distinctive clean floral. As it warms up on the skin, it becomes thicker. Although patchouli is not listed, it is prominent in the base notes. The sillage is about moderate, not as bad as the notorious Simply Belle by the same brand. If you’ve encountered that disaster of a perfume, you know what I’m talking about. Nothing really stands out about this one, but it’s not as bad as the rating suggests. I actually liked it until the base notes showed up… It’s easy to wear, pretty alright if you are into patchouli. It’s just nothing special.

I”m a guy and also had this sample make its way to me. I actually really enjoyed this. I’m not sure what all these ladies are talking about. I’d love to smell this on a woman. I’m not saying it’s the best scent out there, but its not bad. I enjoyed it on my skin for testing.

You know how we’re developing artificial intelligence now, and there are all kinds of articles like, “Romance Novel Titles Written by AI,” or “Inspirational Memes written by AI,” and they’re really funny because they’re just a little bit off, but close enough that you can tell what the aim was?
This fragrance is like if someone fed a machine all the popular perfumes of today and then said, “Okay, AI, now that you know all about perfume, make a fragrance!”
I mean it’s like someone mashed together a bunch of notes that *should* be pleasant, but with no nuance or care or artistry, and as a result it’s… relatively unpleasant. I can tell that it’s a floral. But which flowers? The initial blast is reminiscent of a scented hairspray. The drydown is a warmish floral skin scent that is wholly unremarkable.
The description reads, “a distinctly feminine fragrance featuring a crisp and elegant introduction, a lightly spiced floral heart and a sensual dry down.” Could it sound any more generic? I want to yell, “Pick one!”
So yeah. This is… not great. Give it a hard pass. If you’re looking for an unremarkable fragrance, there are so many that are a lot more pleasant than this one!
*edited to add – whoever named this fragrance should also be out of a job.

This is identical to Ralph Lauren Romance. I wear RLR almost everyday and when I smelled this I had to double check to make sure the sample said Exceptional on it!

Just many samples from Fragrance.net…but even with a proper skin test, which I will say it does calm down after a while, this fragrance is way over the top. Hint to nose, add something more than an overwhelming basket of strong flowers. I mean there’s not even anything delicate in this…it’s like you passed out in a magnolia and lily farm. And for the pretty high AAA price, this could almost rank as a money grab because there’s just no “work” it seems has put into this scent. It’s not stink terrible, just way too plain, lazy and very overpowering.

  13. :

    I just got a sample from Fragrance.net.
Reminds me of my aunt’s hair spray from the 1980s. Also bug spray.
It smells annoyingly coying yet synthetic. I would not want to be trapped in a warm room with anyone wearing this.
I sense no changes in odor as it dries down.

  14. :

    4 out of 5

Got this as a sample from fragrance.net. Its very green and floral, and pungent. Stays very close to skin but way too strong for a skin fragrance. Reminds me of dollar store air freshener.
Drydown gets a little better. Smells a bit like lavender scented baby powder. Honestly, not a memorable fragrance. Disappears after 30mins.
I don’t even WANT to finish my sample. This triggered a headache in me.

  15. :

    4 out of 5

The only note listing here is floral. You got that right, harsh cheap offensive floral. In this case no fragrance is better than wearing this.

  16. :

    5 out of 5

I thought it smelled good in the bottle but upon my skin I can only call it *shrieking* violet or some other kind of flower that’s overpowering. Freesia maybe?
I would think this would be an awful office scent as it would bother the most sensitive. And WHY do they always have to put colors in perfumes? I learn the hard way and now my fibro is flared up because of the colors. My fault, I know.
Oh, and my pug likes to be with me whenever I open boxes of perfume samples. He likes to smell them too, but when I opened this one he moved away from me and when I said “Do you want to smell??” He gave me the “I could kill you” and “don’t even THINK of putting that on” look.

  17. :

Got a sample from fragrancenet too.
According to the ingredients on the sample booklet, it contains aldehydic chemicals that imitate the scent of citrus, roses, white florals (jasmine, lily etc) and natural compounds found in various citruses and herbs.
All of the ingredients are used in common drug store products.
The citrus/wood drydown triggered an instant headache so it’s a no from me.

  18. :

    3 out of 5

Just about as ho-hum and cheap smelling as it gets…there’s a sour almost vinegar quality to it that screams stay away…
I think I’ll take that advice.

  19. :

    4 out of 5

I would classify this as a Green, Fresh Spicy, Floral, Animalic with Aquatic or Ozonic tendancies .
I also received a sample and decided to try it out on my finicky skin that tends to amp animalic and sharp notes, such as musk, amber, pepper, black current leaves and/or berries and the lot.
This opened with a cedar aroma, smoky cedar charring but not burning down.
The musk and urine type smell came trooping in, very typical for me with these ingredients, but do calm after dry down.
As for aquatic, I sense a bold green in the opening and it has a metallic smell making me think of violet leaves, and it sticks around.
Pepper is a huge element with this one for me, very strong notes of black pepper, and it teams up with the violet leaves.
I do smell a floral aspect but it is not dominant and in the background, somewhat creamy rather than sweet, white flowers, perhaps gardenia, not quite lily or rose.
Silage is ok with a fairly heavy application, lasting power is moderate, even on my thirsty skin. Nothing exciting in this realm and mainly a skin scent in a couple of hours.
I do think this has aspects similar to Versace Crystal Noir, the newer formulation that people are not as happy with, sans coconut. To my nose, it’s a huge dose of pepper and bits of cardomom. Perhaps this is an unexpected child of Balmain Jolie Madame and Kim Kardashian, or perhaps their grandchild.
This one I guess could grow on me, it definitely could work for layering to tame some too sweet and heady florals but I don’t think I would go out of my way for it at this point, unless it was smoking hot deal. The bottle isn’t a good excuse to pick it up, generic. Not a crowd pleaser all the way around.
I wonder how this smells on men? It’s not strong enough to survive long but may play well.

I dabbed this on and thought I got some cedar or slightly smoky woods? Another reviewer said so also. Glad it wasn’t my imagination. I like this pretty, clean and slightly soapy floral. It reminds me a lot of Calvin Klein Downtown with its subtle smoky “camping next to a meadow of wildflowers” vibe. I also smell a watery pear. There is musk in the base, but I must admit it’s not my favorite musk.
It’s a clean, fresh scent that feels like spring. This is far from screechy, more whispery. This has a slight aquatic vibe at times. I feel like the woods lingers in the background to give a subtle “flowers in a forest” sense. Very fresh, gentle, and safe for work. The musk in the base doesn’t really appeal to me personally, so I don’t really think I would go out of my way to purchase this.

Like others, I got a sample from Fragrancenet. Not bad, not great. It is an aquatic floral of an undescript nature, but again, not bad. I don’t think I would ever choose a full bottle of this but I will certainly wear my sample on occasion. I don’t quite see the Pleasures similarities, other than it being a clear, crisp floral.

i did a youtube video series called 8 crazy nights of fragrance. for Hanukkah. they are all unboxing videos of fragrances.
i ordered several “novelty” fragrances from fragrancenet’s ebay page (free shipping AND great prices) on their website you get free shipping OR great prices.
they do have good standing among a bunch of fragrantica users so i gave them a try. i did get all genuine products with reasonable batch dates.
so i got several of these samples. this one grew on me. at first i was like MEH. but it is a nice and simple fragrance. i wouldn’t buy a whole bottle. the samples i have will probably last me the rest of my life.
but i really enjoy this one. it’s simple. nice. easy. inoffensive. and doesn’t smell grotesque.

I received a sample from fragrancenet.com and it was nothing special. The packaging and lettering reminds me of a philosophy item, yet it’s not associated with philosophy.
The scent reminds me of my 1980’s rubber toys scent. Not something I’d put on my body. That’s for sure!

  25. :

    4 out of 5

Like others here, I received a free sample vial.
On my skin, Exceptional smells like baby powder with a hint of florals from start to finish. Scent stays stays close and lasts for about 6 hours. Not an awful scent, but fairly unremarkable in my opinion.

  26. :

    5 out of 5

It took me awhile to figure out what perfumes I actually liked to wear and what notes smelled good on me. So I wore whatever fragrance given to me as a gift. For some reason, whatever boyfriend (I had at the time) inexplicably gravitated towards the Lauder house. I was given Beautiful, Pleasures and Precious Drops. Fast forward 10-20yrs later, I CANNOT stand those perfumes. They are far too aggressive and sharp smelling to me. Exceptional is no exception. It totally smells like Pleasures, which I do not find pleasurable at all.
The irony of this review is that I accidentally spilled the whole sample on my wrist/arm and then proceeded to frantically try and evenly disperse the spilled liquid on to my other arm, front and back of my neck and then onto my jeans and sweater. Judging by the the color of the packaging, I thought it would be more of a soft powdery scent. I was way off! I now have a headache and it won’t wash off. I am super annoyed and nauseous at the same time. It reminds me of OFF! the bug repellent (newer version, claiming to have a fresh and pleasant scent). Wrong!
Bottom line, it smells super icky and I don’t like it at all.

I was surprised by all the negative reviews. From my recollection this was a sheer floral fragrance that put me in the mindof Vera Wang sheer veil….the one in the light purple box. Violets and various florals clean and new. Nice and light and it smelled like the color of the bottle a sheer lilac color. Maybe I need to sample it again as sometimes I sample something years later and wondering what was I thinking?

I see the first review of this was from May, 2012. It’s now November, 2016 and fragrancenet is still sending the samples out. Someone got a great deal on a container load of these…
I didn’t expect much from a free sample, and I was bang-on. I put the tiniest of a dab on the back of my hand. The first sniff was me trying ever so hard to figure out what from 1989 it reminded me of. Some fruity shampoo? Lip balm? Before I could have my a-ha! moment, it turned very aquatic and, quite simply, yuck. My cat, who came onto my lap, took an interest in my hand and he literally grimaced!
Unlike other reviewers who didn’t mind the dry down, I absolutely couldn’t deal with it. I hate aquatics with that strange synthetic note and I had to scrub it away. What’s left is a faint musky smell, which I also hate. All in all quite traumatic for me.
This truly is Exceptional in a very tragic way.
Edit: I went to fragrancenet to see what this is all about and was surprised to see how expensive it was considering what it is. Then the bigger surprise was not one of 42 reviews was negative. Go figure.

Yep, free sample from Fragrancenet. What it mainly smells like to me at first is Estee Lauder Pleasures, or at least the way I remember Pleasures smelling in the 1990s, and I liked it back then (remember, with the magazine ads of Liz Hurley in a field of pink flowers?). So this does have pleasant scent associations for me and makes me think of being a sprightly 22-year-old working abroad in Edinburgh. As it dries down it becomes less fresh and a more run-of-the-mill floral-vanilla-fragrance. I don’t actually dislike it, but I can’t see myself seeking out a bottle, and will probably want to wash it off and turn to something with incense or amber or leather later today.

  30. :

    5 out of 5

This is not a terrible fragrance, but mostly linear. I do detect something like musk, but it’s very faint. The dry down for me is most pleasant. To the reviewer that said it smell like magazine, that made me laugh because there is a hint of that too. The base in this perfume is very light. I think I smell magnolia and lily. I like simply belle better. But this is ok.

  31. :

It’s a sheer reminder of an old lady at church. It’s not horrible, but very JLo smelling to me. The first JLo (not to be confused with the 786th Jlo) Exceptional is not a good name for this…. it would be hard to fit “I would only wear this if I was out of everything else” on the a bottle.

  32. :

    4 out of 5

I received a sample of this from Fragrancenet. There is something about this one that reminds me of a men’s deodorant.. it’s got a hint of masculine yet it really is a crisp floral scent and quite feminine. ?? Maybe I am crazy. I don’t dislike it. In fact, I’ve worn it now several times. To me, it is more of a daytime scent. I don’t think I would buy a bottle of this one, but I do keep the sample in my purse as a backup scent option.

  33. :

    4 out of 5

My sample broke in the box from Fragrancenet, along with the freebie mirror. This fragrance is a dead ringer for something I smelled at the mall recently, just can’t remember what. In any case, I thought it was a pretty generic summer floral, not overpowering, and something I would consider wearing.

  34. :

    3 out of 5

Well, I have no idea how much it costs because I have enough free samples to last me a lifetime. I finally tried it and was pleasantly surprised. Exceptional it is not, but it is certainly unexceptionable. Pleasant, slightly crisp floral-the crispness fades first and a bit of undefined spiciness rises, only lasts a few hours at most. To me, Exceptional is a mild fresh short-lived floral that I wouldn’t choose for myself but would wear happily if given it as a gift.

  35. :

    3 out of 5

uuuh, let me just say that it’s not the worst scent, but definitely not the best or even really anything to put up on your perfume shelf. It reminds me of a flat scent, nothing with layers. just floral and disappointing.

  36. :

    3 out of 5

It is floral and nothing special. As most of people I got it as a sample from fragrancenet.com. It is just okay but I felt a little headache at very beginning of its scent. Not exceptional at all.

  37. :

    5 out of 5

This perfume is kinda generic and plain. It is definitely a floral scent that reminds me of many other perfumes I have smelled over the years. Nothing trendy, nothing special. I wouldn’t purchase this one.

  38. :

    3 out of 5

I agree with most reviewers, it is not wearable, and does not smell nice.

  39. :

    3 out of 5

When I opened my sample, only one thing came to mind: a magazine. It simply smells like a magazine. Pretty, plastic-y, floral-ish, generic. The smell of hundreds of scented magazine strips all rubbed together. That’s all I can say really.

  40. :

    3 out of 5

It’s Ok. I’ve smelled worse than this. Its a very light floral and citrus smell. It dries down very soft citrus. I got a sample of it from Fragrancenet.com.

  41. :

    3 out of 5

This is a light floral fragrance which to me smells like the water in a vase just as it is starting to go stale. I waited for about 15 minutes to see if it would get better, but it did not. Just as I decided it was time to wash it off, the scent vanished and saved me the trouble.
PS: (Like other reviewers, I received a free sample from Fragrancenet.)

  42. :

    5 out of 5

Please Fragrancenet, stop sending me this sample with every purchase…This a floral scent that seems clean and fresh, a little bit crisp…but after 5 minutes on the skin it develops a terrible wet dog musk smell…yuck it is soooo reminiscent of a wet dog!I won’t purchase this. Now, the men’s version seems very unisex and fresh, a bit fruity and never develops the wet dog accord..

  43. :

    Wth?
Basically that sums up my thoughts about this overpriced sham of an aromachemical-filled-should-be-a-dollar-store-body-spray-Aqua-di- gioa-knock off-mixed-with-CK-One-then-dipped-in-lilac-breeze-Gain-detergent mess
…and somehow I still gave it greater thought than the manufacturer who made it.
Umm. Ruined my Samsara high—- shame on a “certain” site.

  44. :

    4 out of 5

This is a simple and pretty floral. I don’t think it smells like Pleasures, as I like this fragrance and I dislike Pleasures. Pleasures contains white flowers (including baby breath) that smell like they have been left in a vase for too long. I can see the similarity between the two fragrances, but this one is fresher and more citrusy.
It really does smell like dryer sheets!

  45. :

    4 out of 5

I actually kinda like it, it’s comforting. It smells like lilac Febreze or fabric softener. Have you smelled scented toilet paper? It smells like that too. It even has the chemical smelling base notes.
If it was under $10 I would buy some to very lightly spritz on my clothes/in my closet so they smell clean, but even with the $20 off coupon, it’s just too much money.
Whose IDEA was it to make an eau de parfum of lilac toilet paper scent???

  46. :

    3 out of 5

You know what?….I love this. Yeah, yeah, I know it’s a cheap perfume for an expensive price; I’m not saying it’s a good value…it’s not. BUT….it’s just so pretty! I don’t see any real comparison to Pleasures, which in my opinion smells like realistic flowers. This is just a really fresh, pretty perfume that I wish sold for alot less.

  47. :

    3 out of 5

I don’t believe this is as terrible as many others feel on here. It smells pleasant. It opens with some type of fruit accord. Not sure but maybe lemon and pear? Along with fruit is some black pepper but the pepper stays on me for only 2 minutes. I’m sure it’s all synthetic,as many popular perfumes are,but i actually smell fresh petals on my skin. Maybe a combo of lily, freesia and something aquatic. It sort of bothers me to not know any precise information on the notes but it certainly is not unpleasant.
I have accumulated over 20 of these within this last year and have been packing them as a freebie in any package i sell on ebay lol. I now regret giving every single one away.
I tried it a year ago when i recieved my first one and it was below 0° fahrenheit plus i was sick. So i could not smell anything right and looked on Fragrantica for reviews and 95% were dislikes and sounded even disgusted. I figured, “why bother?”.
For the prices this sells for online i don’t feel is worth it mainly due to poor longevity. Sillage is moderate while it’s there within that hour.

  48. :

Yes a sample from Them. This smells very similar to Pleasures Estee Lauder and Ralph Lauren Romance. A strong floral that lasts very long. It’s not as horrible as everyone is saying. A floral potpourri like Pleasure or Romance and just as synthetic as those two, but not bad at all. I smell lots of lily of the valley and some soapy rendition of lilac and musk. Pleasant

  49. :

Also received a sample and I think it smells like a cross between cheap masculine deodorant and “old lady perfume”. I cringed the day my young daughter put it on but hours later I was snuggling her and it smelled great on her and like another familiar fragrance… I think some estee lauder one. Very odd but not for me.

I just hope next time I order from fragrancenet they will not send me yet ANOTHER sample of that aweful “perfume”…for sure the reason why they are sending so many samples is because they are desperately trying to get rid of that stinky stuff….
Anyways…..I just came to that page and had a blast reading the reviews 😀

  51. :

Just like everyone else I got a free sample. I am looking for a scent that does not overpower everyone around me. I am older and I want something soft. If you are talking with me, I want to smell nice, not sexy or cutesy or on the make. I think this perfume will be nice without knocking out everyone else in the room. I can not stand smelling someone’s perfume an hour after they walk by or when I get into an elevator. As my husband used to say, “I want to have to find it”. LOL I haven’t bought Exceptional yet because my birthday is coming up and I am hoping someone will buy it for me. I HAVE dropped hints. I like it a lot. A soft powdery floral that smells just plain nice. What differance does the name make? That is splitting hairs. As long as it not named S–t, I can live with the name. It’s the scent itself that matters to me.

  52. :

Got this infamous frag sample with my order. At first this smells like a salon. The after a while, other than salon, I figured it smells JUST LIKE A VEET CREAM (the cheapest pink tube one). Thats it. Case closed. It’s of course not a bad scent as you won’t say a salon or veet cream smells bad, but it’s definitely a terrible scent for a fragrance to smell like.:<
(My first review is dedicated to this perfume lol)

  53. :

    4 out of 5

Exceptionally… bad. Plain. Generic. Linear. Fabric-softener synthetic violet meets powdery iris notes. The curious surprise of of the free tester and the 20 dollar off coupon faded quickly and made me wonder what price this could possibly sell for. However much it costs, it’s too much for something that smells like fabric softener, rubbed on like you’re trying to cover up a bad odour. It brings to mind the picture of a 10 year old that got her first perfume at the dollar store. She buys it with leftover lunch money and sniffs the cap before proceeding to spray it all over, content with the cheap confidence boost. Years later, when the girl has become a young lady with a refined taste in perfumes, she can’t help but cringe at the thought of her oblivious days when ‘Exceptional… because you are’ tricked her into believing the label.

  54. :

    4 out of 5

Why is fragrancenet inflicting this on everyone? I can deal with the fact that it smells of some cheap chemical additive (think stinky mousse or industrial cleaner). What I can’t deal with is how difficult it is to wash off of skin, bottles, etc. after it leaks during shipping. Lousy marketing, given that most repeat customers will be scent geeks. Gah!

  55. :

    5 out of 5

Very strong. Headache inducing, and absurdly simple, not much to it at all.
Smells like a flowery hair product. Or a dense meadow of wildflowers, smells like sulfur or something smokey like matches, is in there somewhere at the base? This is a turn off to me.
Estee Lauder Pleasures is gorgeous and well composed, this smells nothing like that! This is a hot chemical mess of synthetic flowers.

  56. :

    3 out of 5

    Worse perfume. Eva.
Total migraine inducing piddle. After my first try I threw it in the closet and revisited it a year later. It got even worse…smelled even cheaper. My Girlfriend tried it and we had sneezing fits until she scrubbed it off. Threw it in the garbage.

  57. :

    3 out of 5

Terrible! I received this as a sample. I tried it once and within 10 minutes developed an excruciating headache. A horrid, chemical mess.

  58. :

    4 out of 5

No. Hell no. First of all, let me say that this would make a great Body Fantasies spray. It smells like a big bouquet of flowers with some kind of soft musk to anchor it all. Sillage and longevity is that of a body spray and it doesnt offend anyone which is why it deserves to be on a drugstores shelf. But no they are actually selling this as a perfume and for fifty dollars! Even with a 20 buck off coupon I wouldnt get this.

  59. :

    5 out of 5

After tossing this one away so many times, I finally decided to give it a trial run. Seriously folks, from start to finish this is one big hot synthetic mess!
Headache inducing after bearing it for two full hours, and then I had to give up and scrub. Really really awful.

Tested this today. It went on nice — pleasant, sharpish floral (lilac?) that seemed a bit familiar (so, not that exceptional I guess, haha — although I couldn’t identify what it resembled). It soon started to warm and get a bit sweeter, I could definitely smell some kind of vanilla-musk note with maybe a hint of anise. However, there was powder in it from beginning to end (to my nose) but I still would have liked it if I hadn’t started feeling nauseated about an hour in. It became what I call “generic perfume smell.” It was hard to wash off.
So if you don’t have my particular sensitivities (whatever they are) and you want something elegant and on the sweet side, this is a nice choice, if it had a lower price.
Packaging: extremely boring, though at least it’s tasteful
    Overall: 3/5

I too got this as a sample. And after I tried it I can’t stop smelling my wrist. Not very much sillage, but lately I have been wanting softer scents. There has got to be something besides “florals” in it; just can’t put a name to it. A kind of creamy, woody smell to it on the dry down. Maybe I just have the chemistry that pulls off these soft, powdery type scents.
“Exceptional”? Maybe “Gentle” would have been a better name for it. But worth trying. Just because it isn’t from some famous design house or from some celebrity doesn’t mean it can’t be worth it. Just maybe not worth $55.

I received this as a sample. It is what it says it is.. Floral, but not very. By that I mean, it has hardly any longevity or silage. At least on me. It has no depth or complexity for my taste. Maybe they should have put an animal in the mix! Now that might have made it different, sexier, more interesting. This would be a perfect perfume for a young girl as it feels/smells very innocent and unassuming. I just like my ladies/perfumes darker, older, more complex and definitely more dangerous.. LOL

I actually love this, although it’s not distinct and alluring enough that I would buy it. It does not smell chemically to me at all, just floral with a hint of spice. A bit powdery. Nice clean drydown. I can’t stop smelling my wrists!

Geez…….. so much hatred on here for this perfume that did nothing wrong other than being ill-named. Seriously, the name is regrettable. I think it should have a more original name, or something conceptual that evokes a feeling. Calling it Exceptional is like not even giving people a chance to decide if they like it or not, and as such comes off as pretentious. Yes, it does smell like a generic floral in the beginning.. to me, reminiscent of Flower Princess in it’s seeming ordinariness. It’s not even a bad thing, just boring to many. But soon after, I smell something hot like pink pepper. It reminded me a bit of Chopard Madness, and Avon 60’s Mod with that peppery smell. Within about a half hour, this was a really nice warm and not-too-floral aura surrounding me, much the same way as a warm cozy sweater that you always feel happy wearing. I probably wouldn’t buy a bottle at the price it’s offered for, as most of my perfumes cost much less, but if this were at a TJ Maxx or Ross I’d totally buy it.. and come up with my own name and tape it over the one on the bottle.

Nice easy to wear perfume. On me it opens with a spicy floral, the dry down resembles estee lauders Pleasure only lighter and less jasmine. Nothing horrid or super special…. …Just nice
….but not enough for me to spend $50, since I already own the actual E.L Pleasure

how can you ask $50 for a bottle of perfume that has no thought put into it?
it’s generic florals, standard, boring…it’s not a bad smell, but there is nothing exciting about this.
i have a free sample of this and it will remain nothing more then my free sample.

I wrote an initial review back in 2012 and am not ashamed nor afraid to say… Iliked it then, like it now. I am too much my own person to dislike something based on the overwhelming majority going in a decidedly different direction. Oh well, to each his own, OUI? I have revisited it and now can say that the elusive fragrance it reminds me of is Shi by Alfred Sung, another beautiful fragrance. If you give it an honest, unbiased try together or side-by-side you may see what I mean. As Vegas Pauli has said “longevity and project are indeed decent” Toodles!

Smells like a nice shampoo. Nothing to write home about, but the longevity and projection are decent

Like everyone else on here, I got this as a free sample from a well known fragrance site, along with another fragrance called “Simply Belle” or something like that. I don’t like either of them very much.
My first impression of this perfume is that it smells strongly of alcohol mixed with some kind of cleaning product. Actually, it reminds me of that “Method” brand of cleaning products, that company that makes the nicer smelling bathroom/kitchen cleaners. Reminds me of the grapefruit one. Anyway, it’s very soft, ordinary, and unexceptional perfume. Practically non-existant sillage and very poor longevity.
I would not buy this for $50 – even though I did notice that the company included a $20 off coupon for this product, so I guess now it only costs $30. I still
