I agree that this smells similar to Coco M, a fragrance that I have been having a kind of weird on and off relationship with.
To my nose their openings are so much alike but on my skin they develop differently. CM loses all its freshness and turns into a deep and warm sugary skin smell on me. Empressa however gets cooler and fresher. After a few hours I almost detect a fresh gents cologne note in it. Maybe this is the reason why they decorated the bottle with a green ribbon. It starts off as a pinkish girly smell and turns into something less girly and cute. But you really need to wait for that moment. It smells very sweet for quite some time first.
It is also very strong. Looking at the watery juice and the decorations of the bottle I thought this would have disappeared quite quickly. I was wrong. Have the EDT version and it lasts and lasts. It also lasts in the room where you spray it many hours like a room spray. So it can be too much at times. In the morning before going to work, I spray it in the air and then walk into it instead of wearing it on my skin because I am afraid that it would be too strong for my colleagues.

Got a sample some months ago and I never bothered to try it out. Think the name is silly and it’s kind of a turn down.
So today I was cleaning out a box with lots of samples and decided to give it a shot.
Wow……. this is a fresher version of Thierry Muglers legendary Angel. More fresh and with a big dose of spearmint.
It”s a very fresh and vibrant gourmet perfume. Tomorrow I will use this sample and wear it to the office.
If this came in small 30 ml bottles I would have bought one.

8:50 – Opens very “clear” but mostly on the designer side. Fruit and jam without being overly sweet or citrusy.
9:10 – Pleasant but smells genericly perfumey.
1 – If stronger, the dry-down would make this perfume stand out. A fruity amber that somehow doesn’t come off as food or dessert. A happy summer scent, maybe.
This isn’t a scent I’ll pursue and while I’m not familiar enough with Coco Mademoiselle to compare, I’m going to assume the other reviews are correct. In which case, I’d go for the cheaper bottle. On my skin, while detectable, the patchouli isn’t very strong but the citrus and berries play nicely with the cocoa and vanilla. I am not a fan of vanilla 99% of the time, but this one is very subtle. I’d recommend this to anyone I’d be trapped in a small space with for any length of time.

I totally agree with Badjohana. I cant stand Coco Mademoiselle but this one does not give me a headache. It is balanced and doesnt disturb my concentration at work. Still very classy ! Yes !

Coco Mad, but a slightly watery version. I’m disappointed in Penhaligon. This should be sold on a shelf in a swap meet for $10.

I just tried Empressa and was rather determined not to like it. The name is silly, the story ridiculous and it is very expensive, the first spray confirmed my suspicion of a heavy going sugary snack. Except that it developed into a beautifully balanced affair that clung to my skin without a hint of cloying. It is divine, and it lasts for ever. I read the reviews here and decided to retry Coco mademoiselle which I had not liked. I tried three versions of Coco M and I do not get it. Empressa is voluptuous, sensuous and generous without being heavy. Coco M to me is the opposite, a thin but headeachy scent. The former is an absolute yes and the latter a clear no. Maybe the ingredients are similar but one of the chefs has Michelin stars and the other works the lunch shift at the local cafe.

This is definitely something for Coco Mademoiselle fans, which is why it is NOT at all for me. 🙁

I discovered recently they have this company store in local mall so I tried several of their fragrances. They seem to most center on florals. This one was my pick of all of them, but in all honesty, even though the opening is cool floral oriental breezy and citrusy, after few minutes it turns into Miss Dior. I mean, its SUPER Close. either that or Coco M EDT(Coco M edf is much heavier on patchouli). But basically, that’s what you are getting. I think the average price of their fragrances is over 200 bucks so you can save your money if you like this and buy Coco M EDT

Not really impressed with this one…As complex as it looks, all I’m getting is a generic sweet floral scent. Mildly shampoo/soapy. It’s nice but for this price I would want wow.

This one is a beast on me. A heavier, richer version of Chanel’s Coco Mademoiselle. Very loud, even if used in small quantity. Bought the sampler set, not sure yet if it is FB worthy for me. We live in a warm climate, and this may be too much of a perfume.

at first-i didn’t think i liked this-i was sitting here, sniffing my wrist, trying to pick apart the notes-and i kept thinking this wasn’t for me….
i got up and got a cup of coffee, kind of mindless as this is my mornig routine…and soon i was wondering what this sexy smell was….it was empressa!
WOW! as soon as i stopped worrying about all the individual notes, and saw it as a whole instead of the pieces-i could appreciate it for what it is-elegant, sexy, warm….it subtly surrounds you…..and i am truly glad i realized it before i gave up on it…
it made me realize that sometimes it is better to stop obsessing over every detail of the journey….and just enjoy the ride!

A review from a man: An Elegant Coco Mademoiselle EDT 🙂 a better version and has better transition because of their large budget to the ingredients. When you compare side by side you can smell Chanels thrifty ingredients. Penhaligons’s: This is how you do it Chanel. *Pats Chanels head.
This is so beautiful cant get enough of testing this one. Smells like the most simple, doesnt wear makeup, most beautiful girl in the world. DIVINE and CLASSY.

This is one of my favourite scents. Yes,it is very similar to Coco Mademoiselle but I agree with racb, it’s softer, more rounded and certainly more elegant. Is that enough to justify the hefty price tag though? IMO, it’s a definite yes. I have both of these and I tend to wear the CM as a more everyday scent and save Empressa for special occasions. I receive compliments when i wear either but somehow, I feel slightly more special and dare I say, flirtatious when I wear Empressa. On me, the patchouli and rose come through but I find the sweetness doesn’t -which I really appreciate as I’m not a lover of gourmands. Whilst I don’t think this is a boundary breaker, a work of genius or particularly a show stopper (we have Andy Tauer for those), I love the way it lifts my mood and a fragrance that can do that, has to be a winner!

Similar to Coco mademoiselle and dahlia davin!
But this is softer, more powdery and sweet.
It stays closer to the skin and has sour and bitter elements.
The only problem for me is that the first spray is an explosion of scent and as soon as it dries on your skin the scent is so much more dull.
I have a little sample and will keep wearing it anyway.

As others have said, it reminds a lot Coco Mademoiselle and I think Allure too!
It’s just a little more subtle but definitely mainstream, as woodlandwalker wrote. I wouldn’t recognize it if I sniffed it on someone.

  16. :

Very mainstream and definitely reminiscent of Coco Mademoiselle, except with more pachouli. If you like that you’ll like this!
I’m not keen on it since I’m not fond of Coco Mad’ or patchouli, it really clings to skin.

First spray feels sweet, after 30 min I feel herbs and rose… it reminds me something….something from mainstreeam hard to locate it but its something I have smelled before, just cant name it.

  18. :

    3 out of 5

To me the first spray feels very sweet, kind of Valentino Donna sweet, but quite soon after it starts to dry down and it looses it’s sweetness, giving space to citrus to develop, although not too much of citrus. It’s a nice scent, but I wouldn’t recognise it by a sniff.

I am not good with reviews but this one is very similar to CM ,I have both and I love them!

Coco Mademoiselle without the sour notes. Empressa is a fresher, cleaner version of this classique by Chanel.
Of course, it’s not particularly original, since its composition is close to a previously existing fragrance which has had a lot of success for more than a decade.
However, that is not enough to detract me from this beauty. It’s a very well made scent. I even get different nuances in the sillage. Less alcohol, more colours.

It’s been proved many times that rose-patchouli- peach combo works specially when done well.
Well, here is another proof by Penhalogon.
Citruus, cassis and pepper add some spices preventing this frag from getting boring or too sweet.
The result is a fruitchouli floral romantic four season perfume.
    Nice bottle.

This is similar to Chanel CM but I prefer Empressa because it’s lighter, pretty sweeter maybe. IMO CM it’s too strong.

This is a delight. I get the Coco M. vibe, but to me it is even fresher…almost an idealised Watermelon scent. Light citrus, soft & round Patchouli, very wearable, especially for the hot weather.
Feminine & “pink” without being sickly.

Softer and more rounded than Coco Mademoiselle, this begins with a shot of tangy orange and dewberry, with the pink pepper providing just enough spice to cut through the sweetness.
It has a perfect balance of spice, floral and citrus which push through at different times and make this a rich and complex scent.
It dries down to a wonderfully soft and light rose and neroli which is feminine and floral.
This is a wonderful fragrance, which balances feminine and floral with light, fresh and fruity.
    Beautiful.

This is a rich scent, sweet and tangy when it goes on and then it settles into a soft blend of a very gourmandesque spiced vanilla berry/ peach. It’s strange but the spices and tangy notes remind me of a fresh baked berry pie!
I can certainly see why many of those reviewing this fragrance would be reminded of Coco Mademoiselle. If you compare their descriptions each have top notes that include among others, orange, bergamot, and mandarin orange. Both also contain middle notes of rose, and base notes of vanilla, musk, and patchouli. Opoponax gives CM a nice mysterious quality similar to the sandalwood/ olibanum/ amber combination in Empressa. However, the black currant, peach, pepper, and dewberry notes really deepen Empressa and set it apart.
Empressa is festive and indulgent. The fragrance is reminiscent of the Elizabethan age of discovery, when early Crusaders and explorers returned with eastern spices like pepper, cinnamon, mace, ginger and cloves, in this sense, Empressa’s depth and richness reminds me of the holidays when those fragrant spices are used liberally in savory dishes and desserts. I bought Empressa as a sample with the other Trade Routes scents crafted for Penhaligon’s and I look forward to trying them all.

A cross between Coco Mademoiselle and Miracle Forever, but with a heftier price tag. Nice enough but not worth the money for what it is, which is a clone.

I was not expecting to particularly like this fragrance, getting a sample atomiser bottle of it from Penhaligons Covent Garden.
The peppery top notes I wasn’t sure of – was bracing myself to sneeze – but the blackberry and peach notes are delicious, with the hint of blood orange thrown in.
It settles down to midnotes of rose and geranium. I detected cloves (eugenol).
There is a very pleasant woody base note, not too much vanilla.
I found myself liking this scent very much. Great for day wear and to the office.
I can see why it is a Penhaligon best seller.

I was so expect Penhaligon’s new perfumes.
but Coco Mademoiselle from UK? with double price?
Is there no evaluator in Phenhaligon’s? shame on yourself, Perfumer.

An over-priced, commercial fruity floral that fades away within half an hour. Too much attention given to the ‘story’ and not enough given to the actual juice. Ellenisia is far better.

yes, it does smell exactly like coco mademoiselle! im so sad because this is my first penhaligon`s perfume, and i bought it online, so i didn`t have the opportunity to test it first, and i already have my coco mademoiselle! and it costs a lot of money! well, i guess that is the down side of buying things online…. i also get a headache from it :-(:-(
