I recently reached out to Wax Poetic for samples of their scents and they sent me small samples of all three of there offerings…While all are very interesting one stood out and that was Ember. First I must warn before i go any further if you aren’t a fan of unique fragrances that embody the word “interesting”, you may be scared of this. If you are more adventurous and like to stand out with your scents, let me fully introduce you to Ember.
Ember smells like a fire…A REAL FIRE…When i smell it it reminds me of what a fire in a forest full of Tonka Bean Trees would smell like once it burned out on it’s own. Hence, the name Ember. It initially comes across very strong and has a scorched Earth type of smell to it. This is by no means a knock on the scent as a lot of times fires have that smell. But Ember comes across like a fire that has spread to the forest after devouring concrete buildings. This initial Ash and Smoke smell can be a shock to the senses but mellows out within minutes and takes a back seat. Many people may judge this opening negatively but would be missing out on the development of Ember which is very well done.
There’s a nice sweet greenness towards the mid which mixes very well with the smell of burning ash. As the ash smell recedes the sweetness from the Tonka and Labdanum begins to comes through and this is where magic happens. It’s woody, earthy, and green with a resinous smokiness. The name describes this smell perfectly. It smells like a sweet wood being eaten through by fiery embers
The performance is average on my skin. I get up to 7 hours with average projection and sillage. The initial spray is very strong but after 2 hours it gets closer to the skin. I like the performance a lot. It is strong enough to be noticed for a while but doesn’t choke out a room if sprayed responsibly.
I consider this scent an evening fragrance for cold weather. It’s a daring scent and should be a huge hit with folks who love unique fragrances. Ember is a rollercoaster of scent. This is a testament to the job done by Perfumer, Jeanette Price. It’s not linear at all and starts off almost like a concept fragrance and ends up surprisingly very wearable. The drydown is a very unique combo of smoked woods and sweet tonka.
The more you smell it the better it smells and I’m a huge fan of scents that encourage thought. When I first smelled it I wasn’t prepared for the authenticity of the it. I knew it would be a “campfire” scent but this was on another level.
I rank fragrances in what i call the P.A.G.E. rating System. which is P- Poor, A- Average, G- Good, E- Exceptional. I consider Ember by Wax Poetic a strong G. I’m a huge fan of it. It won’t be for everyone. This is not a mainstream scent but it’s very memorable and I find the blend of notes, quality of notes and concept to be top notch. This is for fans of fragrances that make a statement and this fragrance screams “FIREEEEEE!!!”

Ember lives up to its name. This is a dry fall campfire – unapologetic. It’s the changing of the seasons – only to be worn with leaves begin hitting the ground. A great experience. In terms of the scent itself, I enjoy it more than imaginary authors city on fire – but campfire scents are a bit off putting to me. The way this is composed seems less harsh than other smells of this nature – I respect it thoroughly and appreciate it for what it is, but it is not for me.
