Description

Eau des Baux is a fragrance of knights, courageous Chevaliers des Baux.

Les Baux de Provence is a legendary city-fortress on the south of France. Knights of Les Baux have chosen cypress as symbol of strength and courage. The new EDT was inspired by this medieval legend.

The colour of box is dark red, and similar to the colour of their uniform. Golden-silver star on the box and bottle is also a symbol of knights of Les Baux.

A sensual union of cypress and incense is in the center of composition. Eau des Baux was launched in 2006. The nose behind this fragrance is Karine Dubreuil.

I like men’s vanilla fragrances and this is largely a winner. The vanilla in this is the star attraction and is done very well. It’s not a cheap vanilla but a rich, deep vanilla that thankfully isn’t too sweet. The only thing I don’t like is the other distinguishing note: cypress wood. I wish L’Occotaine had chosen a different note to pair with that great vanilla. But that’s nitpicking as this does smell phenomenal. I know others may say “But that cypress note is one of it’s defining characteristics!”. Yeah, yeah I know. But I’m just not a big fan of the cypress note in general. To each their own. Luckily this, to me, is so well constructed with that incredible vanilla that they could almost, almooost, have thrown any random vile note with it (black currant, anyone?) and it would still smell great. So even though I’m not a fan of a singular note, this is still a great fragrance!

“For men” although straight up unisex as far as I’m concerned. It’s basically a sweet vanilla with some incense in the base so it doesn’t get too girly. Stupidly good value for money, can be had for under £40 online, there aren’t many frags around this price I’d wear but this would be one of them. In fact I’m trying hard to resist buying because I’ve a couple of other similar ones that are slightly high quality albeit at several times the price.

    Incredible opening, meh dry down.
It turns from tobacco pipe, cardamom,
leather to a sweet flowery something.
Great value for the price though to reaply
for the opening ceremony in a row.

    This was a surprise.
At first, I instantly thought of “Tobacco Vanille.”
The second time I tested it, the more it reminded me of a strong, Spiced-Vanilla Rum.
This stuff is VERY in your face upon initial blast. It’s incredible spicy. A really deep vanilla that is BOLD.
As it calms down, it obtains the creaminess of the vanilla-booze combo. As stated before this is best described as a Spiced-Vanilla Rum.
The vanilla is absolutely dominant. It is warm, cozy and very smooth.
Overall, really good stuff for a smaller house. This will get usage on the colder days!

Dont let the price fool you! LOccitane does good stuff and this is no exception. The vanilla here is extremely authentic and it performs well. Extremely warm and comforting.

Cosy yet airy, somewhat sweet, herbal, with a slight Coca-Cola vibe. My favorite bed scent.
It features an exceptionally blended cypress-vanilla accord with a fragrant incense touch (a la L’eau d’Issey Intense as opposed to, say, Laudano Nero), some pepper right at the beginning and an apparent smidgen of cardamom. There’s not much observable progression, but the linearity is not necessarily a bad thing. There’s sweet herbaceousness to be had from start to finish.
I totally get the comparisons with Tobacco Vanille – if you layered Eau de Baux with Pure Havane in the right quantities, you could get close to TV.
Performance – lasts for about 6-7 hours with decent projection for about 2. As I mentioned above, it’s ideal as a bed scent – comforting, calming without any choking sillage tentacles.

Directly at their site, you can get the 3.4 oz. for $47.20 simply by adding the promo code FRIEND. The trick (that I MISSED!) is if you find anything else you want, get over $9 and it’s free ship. It seems they do charge tax everywhere.
There is some other garbage there you can get free samples of also. Up to three. Even with shipping and tax it was cheaper than anything on Feebay! Plus it should be fresher and definitely genuine LOL.
OTOH, would this layer well with Perry Ellis Black Vanilla Absolute (Oud) giving a TV tobac vanilla?
    EDIT: 7/29/18
A bad blind buy so far. It was weak and kind of meh compared to other frags. Too bad. I have some tobacco e oil on the way. I will try that under this and see if it improves. On me this is short lived before going to skin scent. No projection.
The PE BVA is a clear winner so far.
The tobacco e oil wound up being labelled tobacco vanille. Definitely vanilla with a lesser tobacco, but not that cherry sweet pipe kind. Mixed down to 5% with Everclear in a spray, it is a perfect under layer for this or PE BVA.
EDB over the BVA works well too, but is more intense initially.

I tested on my wrist while waiting for my mother to buy a handsoap in a L’Occitane store. We left the store and 5 minutes later I had to get back and buy a bottle. Excellent option, I think this will be my signature fragrance from now on.

Unfortunately I cannot see the appeal, the vanilla is overbearingly sweet and the fir carries a medicinal quality rather than a deeper woody note. If you are using it apply it very, very lightly.

Eau des Baux opens up with a very warm and relaxing fragrance – it smells almost like hot resin that has burst through tree bark on a hot summers day in southern France. The pink pepper is very gentle and provides just enough relève to avoid the vanilla notes being too sweet but it does ultimately smell like massage oil.

This was a ‘like’, but the drydown has won me over entirely. The drydown days later on the spray card was what brought me a burning desire to own this.
I’d say the note breakdown on this website, and other peoples comments here are, for the most part, fairly accurate.
I also believe this shares a “passing” resemblance to both Zara 9.0 and Luna Rossa Extreme.
Is this truly unique? stunning for a passerby? I won’t claim that. I’d characterize this as a fragrance where up close, hours later, someone might go, wow that’s nice. Not my wife so far, however. She described it as “it’s nice nothing special” As this is a recent addition, she’s only smelled this on my arm freshly sprayed.
It’s a good price, similar to other fragrances that have gotten me compliments. How could this offend anyone? So therefore, I can only recommend this.

This is much higher quality than the price suggests, probably owing to the fact Occitane as a company has its history in extraction of essential oils so they may find it easier to source high-quality natural ingredients.
Comparisons with Tobacco Vanille are incorrect – the much better comparison is Phaedon’s Tabac Rouge. Phaedon TR is more transparent, tea and spice-based, drier and less based on tobacco. This one is spicier still than Phaedon TR, and has a chunky raspiness from the woods which is more rugged.
For me, the cypress and tonka are most pushy and prominent. They have very different characters so their discord creates a very warm, low end vegetal ‘fizz’ element to this fragrance (slightly reminiscent of cola). With that providing the main body of the fragrance, cardamom (and possibly cinnamon) fumes off the top delightfully.
It’s unisex because we have the gourmand qualities – the tonka and the vanilla, and we have the cypress giving it outdoor woodsiness.
This fragrance lasts a long time, it evolves in a non-linear manner, and it project very well. The blending is splendid. Like most of Occitanes fragrances, this smells like a simplistic, well-sourced set of materials, less of a statement of composition. But the materials and blending are still great.
Cosy, warm, woodsy, spicy, very unisex, excellent performance.

I just got a tester strip sprayed with Eau des Baux today, and, oh my, do I love it!
It was a smoky-sweet wood when newly sprayed, really nice and pleasing, a lot better for me than the strip with the newly-sprayed Eau de Vétyver, which was dry and too woody for me, and which I didn’t like so much.
A few minutes later, I took out the Vétyver and was surprised at how it had changed. It was now warm and spicy-sweet from the nutmeg, so cozy and familiar, reminiscent of a well-loved sweater. I couldn’t stop smelling it; I liked it a lot this time. How did this happen? I thought it was a no-no for me, but now… For a moment I wondered if I got out the wrong tester strip.
And then I took out the Baux tester strip, and wow, had this evolved too! It was now smoky wood and incense, a note that I have been loving as of late. It smelled so different from the initial spray, but I love both phases a lot!
I don’t know if either fragrance had a different mid phase, since I didn’t sniff the tester strips again until a little later.
Now I want to get one of these for my husband (only one, even though they are both on sale at 45% off, because I also want to get the similarly discounted Verveine Agrumes for myself, hee hee). I’m leaning towards Baux because it is the one that I loved from opening to dry-down, but I’m not sure if he could wear the incense note. He is not a frag lover like myself, only wears what I give him and not always, and I’ve never given him anything in this vein, so I don’t know if he would like it. On the other hand, I didn’t like the opening of Vétyver so much, and though I liked the dry-down a lot, I still prefer Baux overall, so I am still leaning towards this. I guess it would be safer to let him take a sniff first before I decide to buy or not to buy (and which… *Baux, Baux, Baux!*).Edit: So I am reading a lot of reviewers finding this to be a unisex scent. I was considering the same thought. So another point for this one. Tee hee!Edit, 1/26/2018: So, after pretending to think about it, and asking my husband to sniff the strip (he said he’d wear it if I got it for him), Eau des Baux is now sitting in my closet. I’m wearing it today layered with SJP Stash.
Odd thing though, when I went back yesterday and sprayed it on a strip to smell again before buying, after letting it sit a while, I got that strong, pure incense note again. But I got a few tester strips mixed up, and wanting to be absolutely sure I was smelling the right one, I sprayed it on another strip, and even after waiting a while, it did not dry down to incense, only had a faint incense blended in the background. Same bottle, different strips. I didn’t spray any other fragrances with an incense note, so surely, the first strip must have been Baux.
I also tried spraying on my skin after purchasing, and last night at bedtime. I didn’t get such a pure incense note as well, unlike the first two times I sprayed it on a strip. Is there some technique to coax that note out? Swirl the bottle or not swirl it?
Nevertheless, I still love it, love the smoky sweetness. I just wish I could figure out where that incense is hiding, haha. Anyway, that’s why I tried layering it with SJP Stash today, to add a more prominent incense to Eau des Baux’s well-blended and smooth aroma. I agree with the reviewers who said this is good for layering, though I think it is also very beautiful on its own. ♥

Eau Des Baux is close to Dior Addict and there is no similarities with Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille.

Love Baux, it is like a fresh Christmas tree and vanilla candle scent in a bottle. Would want to buy a new bottle, as I loved the scent and remember it as a good performer.
But now a lot of reviews states that the new bottles are absolutely weak and not worth it, tried in L’Occitane store and it really seemed weak, but the tester seemed very old and maybe gone bad.

I am a massive fan of fragrances with the same notes as eau des baux, some people say its familiar to tom ford tobacco vanille, I don’t think its the same but does have similirities but this one doesn’t have the dominant tobacco note but more vanilla! I am so impressed with this house so far, the longevity is great! I have had it on now for 8 hours and can still smell it on my wrist but faint. all I seem to get now is vanilla which is nice but quite linear. this is bottle worthy considering the price! 8/10

I bought this frag because Tobacco Vanille doesnt fit me well.
I have the latest batch, just bought it this week.
It smells cheap in the first 30mins-1hour, but then the middle notes and base notes are really smelling good.
Some sort of gourmet vanilla that lasts a whole week on clothes, and some hints of tobacco and herbs.
Be aware, this fragrance is very sensitive to body chemistry and can transform itself in a bad fragrance, where it would only smell incense and synthetic.
If it is sprayed on clothes, it remains awesome and very very long lasting.
    I like it.
I alternate between this Eau des Baux and Pure Havane when i am in a tobacco mood fragrance.
Even if Pure Havane is far superior to this EDB, i like it a lot.

    Just wow. This is great.
    Smell: 10/10
Longevity: over 12 hours on my skin
    Projection: 7/10
I bought it in 2014. I don’t know if the recent version is reformulate. Anyone know?

  21. :

    3 out of 5

I heard this may be reformulated.
I just reviewed a great fragrance that reminded me a lot of Eau Des Baux.
It is Dyptique Volutes. It is a little more refined and pricy, and it is more like Tom Ford Tobacco Vanilla.

@Melanthe: if you want something similar to Tobacco Vanille you must try Réminiscence Tonka. It’s very similar

This use to be my Top Spring and Fall scent until a week back when i bought a new bottle and i can only smell Incense from top to bottom , wtf? i dont know what they did with it as my old bottle still have like 5ml in it and its totally different , that peppery cypress opening with cardamom is perished and like wooden burnt incense is there, so my question is this reformulated or wtf?

I have been hoping to find something that might take the place of Tom Ford’s Tobacco Vanille and decided to try this based on recommendations by other Fragranticans.
Recently had a foray into the city, so I stopped in at L’Occitane and tried it, liked it a lot and bought it, expecting more from the dry down, which sadly didn’t work as I had hoped it would. I do really like this, but I need to layer it with something with some deeper amber notes to add depth and richness.
Sillage and longevity are not great for me at all.
Eau des Baux is very herbaceous to my nose and has a bitter scent. This is something I find very appealing, so I’m happy to have it in my collection and wear it, but it is not a deep love for me and I will now need to save my pennies for the Tom Ford TV…

  26. :

    3 out of 5

A unique scent for sure. It’s one of those scents I enjoy more from an abstract point of view, for the way it evokes a mood, but which I don’t really like as a scent for others to smell on me.
What I love about it though is its versatility for layering with other fragrances. I find it brilliant for adding depth and toning down other fragrances that are otherwise too sweet for my liking. It’s a must-have in my collection for this alone.

From the notes I expected to like it straight off and be a favourite !!oh how I was wrong!possibly due to how my skin changes scents but this smelt
Like a very dirty almost gone off vanilla ,drying down into a dampened wood!
However this is a fragrance of immense quality ,the shop assistant in the loccataine store spayed it on himself before me and he made it give off a sharper more dense woody scent ,with a chypre accord in there somewhere ,wish I could pull it off because it really is a beast of a fragrance ,even if I hated it on me I could smell it for hours ,even after trying to scrub it off me!!

Very similar to Versace’s The Dreamer, especially in the drydown. It’s surprising that no-one mentioned it in prior reviews. It has bit more sweetness and is more toned down than Dreamer though. Beux is well-constructed and it’s only pitfall is that it is fairly short lived. Like many lovely fragrances she escapes off into the abyss all too soon.

I like this one better than tobacco vanille. There’s more woods in this. This one is a little more spicy, woody, but the vanilla and tobacco are right there too. This is a pretty modern masculine scent. This smells like a man, father, head of house, person in charge, not a young boy type smell. Wear this when you reach maturity.

  30. :

    3 out of 5

    Real Quality…
I am so pleasantly surprised by this one. Eau des Baux strikes me as a fragrance which is worth a lot more than it’s price tag. Extremely well made, to a level beyond what is expected from a house such as L’Occitane. It is a sweet, herbal woody scent which is reminiscent of other woody orientals (notably Tobacco Vanille). There is little not to like here, as it is warm, soft and never too loud. I find it strikes just the right balance of each note and works beautifully throughout the day.
I get the cypress, a wonderfully green and also dry herbal note, mixed with tonka bean and incense. The dryness comes from the woods, incense and cypress, with a hint of herbal background, and the sweetness, which is almost honey-like, comes from the vanilla and tonka bean.
I really think that, as a masculine fragrance, you cannot go wrong. It could even work on a daring lady. Eau des Baux really is phenomenal when you consider the price it costs. I think that people who like the honey, tobacco like fragrances, or woody orientals in general, will like this. Otherwise I would recommend trying this first. Another aspect which I like about L’Occitance is that they offer matching products to this, and I tried out the shower gel before trying this, which in itself has a fantastic aroma and feel. Overall, I cannot recommend this highly enough, for lovers of dry, herbal, woody orientals etc. Really nice. Lovely!

Thanks ronin.jose u hit it on the head. This scent develops, so give it time. I can initially smell overpowering bitterness. It shortly turns to a non sweet vanilla. I like this fragrance, and I think I might become to love it.
I blind bought this with all the positive reviews. I’m glad I did, not ecstatic but like I said, I have a feeling this one may grow on me and I might become to appreciate it more once I get over the initial spray and enjoy the lovely dry down.
A really nice smelling vanilla scent once dry down is reached.
    Update
Fell in love with this one, as initial bitter blast is over in about an hour, the drydown is probably the most sweet, soft & sexy vanilla ever.

A nice soft, masculine, non-sweet vanilla
But not masculine as in it is a rich, dark, spicey, woodsy, sexy, exotic, “oriental”, but rather something like a typical bitter masculine citrus note/s (bergamot perhaps????!?) mixed with a non-sweet/gourmand vanilla. It turnes softer when it dries down. Very simple, casual, masculine fragrance.
A great fragrance for those guys (or girls) that found vanilla fragrance to be too sweet.
    6.5/10

  33. :

    3 out of 5

I usually hate vanilla fragrances, I feel they get a bit too thick and synthetic.
However this is a rich vanilla which lets other notes come through which makes it incredibly versatile.
It is a cold weather fragrance but I believe you could wear it in hotter weather (not blazing hot days though) as the cypress and tonka give it a bit of lightness, think about all the summer fragrances with tonka now.
I would say it’s a more formal fragrance but at the same time it’s not difficult to wear at casual times.
It lasts quite long time on me, over 10 hours and it projects quite well in a gentle way.
Overall this is a pleasant vanilla scent which won’t offend people but it will also not be common, it’s suited to a wide variety of settings and it has good performance.

With L’ Occitane’s Eaux des Beaux, winter and fall have their scent and it is spicy and sweet as one would expect. This fragrance is a well blended masculine fall winter blend, that is as woody and smokey as it is spicy. Aside from the typical fall aromatics this scent has a great vanilla running through it. This scent deserves all the hype it receives for one reason… simplicity. LOEDB is linear but delivers the goods! The opening of pink pepper and cardamom is spicy comfort bliss. The cypress is present and not too dominant due to the incense (a smokey sweetness looms over the scent momentarily). The tonka is fantastically rendered here and not at all cloying or overwhelming. LOEDB is easily full bottle worthy due to price point and quality. This scent fits perfectly in the fall/winter rotation, either at the office or just for casual use. This scent is perfect for that down time for the fall and winter, when sometimes you just want to slump down into your favorite armchair and stare out the window.

Update: Beautiful late summer day. Sun is high, breeze out of the northwest. Low 70s and no humidity. Stunning day. Great opportunity to break EdB out for a spin. What in winter is warming and enveloping is sense stirring, earthy and woodsy on a cool late summer’s day. Refined elegance. Assured. Easy to wear while knocking about on an afternoon or eating al fresco under a full moon.
This is a lush composition filled with winter goodness. Rich, warming Christmas cake smells, pipe tobacco and roasted nuts. Enveloping but not intrusive, EdB’s projection and sillage are astounding considering the price point.

I really love this. I first fell in love with this while Christmas shopping, and I stopped into L’Occitane. I talked my now ex-boyfriend into purchasing a bottle because I was fairly obsessed with it at the time. It smells wonderful and warm. A couple of years later I saw that some women wear this, which I had never previously considered. I had to buy a bottle to see if I could wear it and I am happy that I did. I love the pink pepper (although it tends to make me sneeze initially), and is absolutely perfect for mixing with fragrances, especially for some that are too sweet. For me, DKNY Be Delicious is too sweet on its own but is awesome when mixed with Eau des Baux. My favorite combo is to mix it with Arquiste, Architects Club. I have received more compliments from that combination than I have from any other fragrance that I have ever worn…. ever.

This sweet warmth fragnance is adoreable for the strong vanilla notes with spicy herbaceous hint on the drydown. when i first sniff this fragnance all i get is a blast of vanilla then resemble with mild tonka bean and spicy pink pepper. in my opinion, i feel it more suitable to wear at the casual night hang out or little walk on the cold weather. the performance is so-so with nothing to get suprprise me at all, but the good thing is that this fragnance is made from natural ingredients (its what stated on the bottle) so it will get me nothing to complaining it because it still pretty good enough.
    Scent : 7,5
    Sillage : 7
    Longevity : 7

I picked up a small (5ml) sample and have to say I’m extremely impressed. This is a high (practically niche) quality scent which puts the majority of bland designer offferings to shame. A prominent incense-resinous note dries down to a delicious warm vanilla base with a hint of spice – I’m reminded of freshly baked gingerbread. This is definitely full bottle worthy and I will revisit later on in the year.
    Projection: Moderate
    Sillage: Moderate
Longevity: Good (6 – 8 hours on my skin)
Verdict: You really can’t go wrong with this. A solid 8/10.

  39. :

I really like this a lot. I’ve had it for a week and worn it 3X already. To me the opening is like YSL La Nuit De l’Homme with the cardamon in the forefront, but once that dies down, which takes a while, it’s just a very warm, sweet vanilla. I don’t know if there’s some inconsistency in the batches or if I’m missing something but I can barely smell the cypress or incense. Maybe I just can’t pick them out because they complement the vanilla so nicely. To me the overall impression is something like a vanilla candle from Bath & Body Works but spicier and higher quality. It just seems very “friendly” and I’m happy to wear this when I’m going to be around a lot of people.
Edit: I can totally smell the cypress now, it just compliments the vanilla really well so I didn’t notice it the first few times. This has become my go-to on cold days or when I’m going to be around a lot of people. I just don’t see how anyone would find a problem with this, but still smells unique and high quality.

(Created in 2006) First off, I think this is slightly reminiscent of Pegasus-PDM (created in 2011) or shall I say, Pegasus is reminiscent of this.
I like Pegasus and I do have a bottle, unfortunately I wasn’t too fond of this one.
Not to be too harsh…but, there is something about this fragrance that didn’t smell very pleasant to me as it settles in the dry down….
A very intriguing fragrance in the beginning stages, I must say, but after it dries down (to me) it became a bit of a turn off! There is a note or lingering note maybe the vanilla mixed with the spices, or the incense that makes this unbearable….sorry a ‘no’ for me!

I find it soapy on the top notes, nice frag. It gives me TV vibe after 8 to 9 hours when it is very close to skin.

Possibly the best incense fragrance I’ve already wore. This scent is like a fragrance lesson, because you can easily perceive almost every note inside. Incense, Cypress, Vanilla, Tonka and the peppers. Curiously, this have one of the cleanest cypress I know, so, if you enjoy this note, that’s an excellent choice. Smells organic, with a niche quality for a fair price.

  43. :

I love Eau des Baux, as I love all balsamic scents, I want to bathe in them.
It opens with a huge, almost minty, green dose of cypress which is refreshing and as the vanilla and incense appears soon, for a minute they give a somewhat medicinal mix. The scent doesn’t change a lot throughout its evolution. The tonka bean replaces the aromatic, nearly bitter opening accord and embalms the wearer in the most exquisite cloud for all day. It is both sweet and herbal. Very unique. I spray it onto my hair where it gives excellent longevity. I keep shaking my head like crazy to sniff the drydown. Dreamy and larger-than-life scent, very loveable, creamy and smooth, and way better than most contemporary fragrances. As with most of my favourites, I never smelled it on anybody other than myself.

Finally got the chance to smell this when I was in a L’Occitane store. I like it, but it reminds me a lot of Prada Luna Rossa Extreme, which I already have in my collection. I considered buying it, but it was simply too close to Prada, imo. More similar than it is to TFTV. However, I love my Prada, so if you don’t have that one, I’d recommend trying this one.

Although it smells pleasing and nice, I personally don’t like to wear this scent. I purchased it 3 years ago due to the hype and since then I only wore it less than 5 times (and mostly it was for testing purposes).
Reminds me a little bit of Burberry London but with a better performance. but London smells nicer to my nose.
Scent 7/10 (I personally don’t like it much)
Versatility 6/10 (only fall and winter)
    Longevity 6-8 hours
    Projection is good

A very creamy-vanilla fragrance with a definite wood note….great winter scent….Are there any others that detect a slight menthol note in the opening? It dissipates quickly enough but conjurers up thoughts of muscle-rub ointments for an instant…that aside, this is a winner by L’Occitane right up there with their Vetyver……

A perfect scent for Christmas Day. I sprayed it on my neck, threw on a scarf and went for a family walk on a cold Canadian Christmas morning. The smell cut through the cold and surrounded my head with a constant warm, cozy, sweetness. Outstanding longevity for me – 10 hours minimum.

When you test this fragrance, wait for it to get to the bottom. I wasn’t very amazed when i smelled it for the first 10 mins. But after i came home and smelled the test strip again, I fell in love with it instantly. Now as I smell it more and more, i regret not buying this one. Great light winter fragrance. Definitely worth the money.

This plus a patchouli body wash is absolute heaven. Essential MAN without sharp edges. Slightly herbal tobacco and vanilla. Strong, stable, and confident with great cuddleablility.

I tried L’Occitane Eau des Baux three-years ago and, although my first impression was positive, I didn’t purchase a bottle until several months later. Over the years it has become one of my most loved scents. Moreover, since it comes with an affordable price-tag, I carry Eau des Baux in my gym bag (for post-workout application, of course) during the Fall and Winter months. Whereas I carry Mugler Cologne in my gym bag during the Spring and Summer.
Baux opens with a very nice spicy, lightly smokey-woody vibe; it’s a bit sharp and very masculine. Fast-forward an hour or two and this fragrance now has a really nice sweet woody-vanilla-cardamom thing happening which I can clearly detect on my skin 8-hours later; excellent longevity and decent projection. Moreover, this bad Baux is well-received by the ladies and everyone in my family.
Baux quickly became one of my favorite fragrances and it occupies the top-shelf come the Fall and Winter seasons. It’s just a really fine musculine fragrance! Although certainly different, to me Baux is 75% in the ballpark of a Tobacco Vanille experience IMO. I’m not saying that Baux is a knock-off of a substitute of that iconic Tom Ford fragrance…rather, it just exudes a similar type of attitude. Baux performs well and is a suitable substitute for those not wanting to fund the lifestyles of the rich and famous.
Thanks to a YouTube Video from Fragrance Bros., I have often layered Baux with Tobacco Vanille and receive complements each and every time I wear this combination. To be honest, I don’t really layer them as much as I wear both fragrances together…right-wrist, left-side of neck Baux, leftwrist,
right-side of neck Tobacco Vanille (for when I receive hugs)
and a shot of both to the center of my chest and shirt. I’m good ’till the next day. L’Occitane Eau des Baux and Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille is a sinfully awesome layering combination, which will help you stretch your bottle of expensive Tobacco Vanille.

I love it! Much better than Tobacco Vanille or Spicebomb as a unisex fragrance. It’s not overpowering & absolutely delicious.

Nice masculine fall cologne. Don’t find it unisex at all but maybe a masculine women it will work, certainly not with feminine women. Decent projection and longevity. My mom loves this when I visit the family. My wife not crazy about the incense and pink pepper notes which made her sneeze. I tried to get her to wear it but she said no way it’s not a match with her feminine characte. Her friends agreed.

Stunning composition from L’Occitane. It respects the principles of the house: simple, natural-feel, and with citrus notes. Funny thing to see that even when they intend to make a ‘sweet’ scent they manage to put fresh citrus notes into it! The result is both warm and invigorating (and much better than messy and smoky TF Tobacco Vanille IMHO).
Lasting power is 10h and projection is good for 5h, just enough for you to be happy in an uncompromised day.

My favourite from Loccitane, away from mainstream fragrances. Its easily set itselfs apart from most designer frag.
To me there is a sharp peppery spice note that settles quite quickly into an engaging presence without being too distracting. The scent is held up by some faint incense and warm wood. A masterpiece of a fragrance you wouldn’t expect f
