I was a graduate student in NYC for three summers – and this was a discovery that I made at Sak’s Fifth Avenue. From the moment that I smelled this on my skin, I loved it.
The girl behind the counter explained that the inspiration for this perfume was Spring Rain — and I truly love Spring! I adore this fragrance.
This is a clean, pure, transparent, and smells like a beautiful picturesque country home with a slight smell of wet hay… like a scenic country barn.
I normally gravitate to fragrances that have a longer staying power, but this is special. It is one that I recommend that you find a small purse size spray atomizer to carry with you and reapply throughout the day. Yes – it is worth it, if you truly LOVE this fragrance like I do.
There are other fragrances that are in this family of scents.
Jessica Simpson’s Vintage Bloom is a light lemon/citrus type fragrance that is in a similar range as this. But to be bluntly honest – there is only ONE Eau Du Ciel.
    It is worth EVERY penny!
Such a beautiful, clean, spring fragrance.
    I dearly love this!
Please – don’t EVER stop making this!

    I adore this so much!
My ALL TIME FAVORITE PERFUME…. EVER!!!!!

Unsure if it’s EDT or EDP, but it’s really calming and mild, like waxy soap in the woods. (The waxiness is what makes me think EDT). I love how pure it smells, how natural and fresh. Like taking deep breaths while standing in the coolness of a shady forest. It’s a very introspective, quiet scent. Personal, not seductive or attention seeking, just…a sort of peaceful veil. I’m surprised by how moved I am by this fragrance. I knew I liked it (which is why I held onto my sample vial and have treasured, rather than used it) but I don’t remember being so enamored. Now I need this…

On me, all I got was iris and musk, neither of which does very well on my skin. Sadly, this just did not work for me. Florals have to have some sweetness for me to enjoy them.

This was soft and slightly sweet on my skin. I never got any musky or green notes. It was kind of a meadow, hay, and wildflower scent, and I was enjoying letting the story of it develop in my mind. There was also a kind of plastic or play-doh note (maybe the beeswax?) that I didn’t love, but that I thought might change in the drydown. I still liked it, though, and I kept sniffing my wrist, enjoying it, and waiting to see how it developed, But it disappeared within less than an hour, except for the faintest trace if i held it right up to my nose. Disappointing! Pretty while it lasted.

At the start It smells a bit dirty to me, it reminds me of the grungy undertone in ELDO’s Tilda Swinton. Only in Eau du ciel it is not combined with roses and coffee, but with spring flowers and motor oil. It smells like… a stony trail surrounded by yellow flowers and car wrecks.
The heart reveals the tea. Now this tea thing is lovely and something my aunty would wear with pleasure.

To the ones worried about the “reformulation” as I was:
After a long love affaire with Eau du Ciel, I tested the new one and for my nose there were barely no difference. But the gentleman at Annick’s counter at Printemps (Paris) explained that the only difference is that the new one has a little bit more of musc. After that information I almost could feel it… But barely!
Goutal is a brand that respect their original formulas! And I’m so grateful for that!!!
Edit: I haven’t had the opportunity to test both side by side. So, my opinion was formed by my memory.

What I really need to know is whether this re-issue of the beautiful Eau du Ciel is as good as it used to be, or, like some other late lamented favourites, has been ruined by reformulation.
I would love someone who knows the original and has had the chance to test this new version to do a detailed comparison. Please!

Truly a beautiful fragrance. I definitely get the linden blossom in the opening, mixed with a bit of tea, and then the rosewood and musk. I don’t get much of the iris or beeswax. Its sweet, but not overly so. This is a plus for me, don’t care for sweet scents in general. As other reviewers have noted, it has extremely short longevity. I have the EDT, and have had no success in finding the EDP. If anyone knows where to find it, please let me know!

A beautiful fragrance for spring. I just wish it had more sillage and duration. Perhaps the edp is better?
