Update: I used the EDP with the perfume oil and performance was impressive! Mr. Dame included a generous assortment of samples, including body cream for Earth Mother and it was not only beautifully fragranced but also very light and absorbed quickly. I will be testing my other samples as soon as possible!

Angel is not my thing; I dislike its heaviness, its unabashed cloying sweetness, its sheer ubiquity.
Earth Mother has a lot of similarities, but it’s not a dupe. I would say it’s Angel for Angel-haters, which is nice for me.
Softer, smokier, quieter, closer to the skin, more natural-feeling. The same warm sweet patchouli framework but a bit more caramelly, complex and mature.
Less of an atomic mushroom cloud & more of a soft crackling fire in the desert.

This is definitely a very well designed fragrance. Warm and comforting. I bought the perfume oil and it disappears almost immediately. I will layer it with the EDP and see if that helps. I have Desert Rose perfume oil and it has significantly more longevity. This perfume house does not specialize in hitting you over the head with scents which precede you. Sometimes you want an aura fragrance not a trumpet, and this house is the place to get it.

I received this as part of my sample pack and it’s really nice. I agree with others that Earth Mother has an Angel-like quality to it. I’d say it’s more aromatic and a little less sweet though. Lots of patchouli and caramel. I’m going to have to buy a larger size of this!

Wholely unattractive until the caramel shows up because it’s JUST PATCHOULI. Dirty patchouli, at that! Sage comes in and, well, purifies this scent. When all the notes come together I can see why people like this fragrance. It’s earthy, but not dirty, with a bit of sweetness and richness. It feels organic enough to be bohemian in that LA way, but sophisticated enough to attract the rest of us. I like it, but not enough to deal with the initial dirty patchouli blowout.

Oh, I was so slow to fall in love. On my skin: It was too sticky caramelly. And then it felt like a bakeshop. It wore too warm. The scent itself is amazing and I kept trying it on. I acknowledged in my notes that it was gorgeous and in the same sentence said I would never wear it. And I gave up on my sample and set it into the box to pass along.
And then, in a gift; the hair oil arrived, along with another large sample of the perfume. I dripped it onto the ends of my hair and and then it all came together. The patchouli is just on the edge of “dirty” skin; it stays, just barely, in the space of lived-in. Skin that has been working, steadily, and will want for a shower later. I feel like it works more in tandem with the musk than the green. And the green is lovely, a slightly powdery, clean aromatic undercurrent. This Mother cleans with real soaps and they linger on her skin. Light whiffs of herbal freshness come through periodically and I sigh in pleasure. I’ve made peace with the sweet; it’s still not my favorite aspect but I understand its place in the fragrance. It’s a Motherly coziness and it definitely suits. I still don’t wear it on my skin; nonetheless I love to feel it wafting around me from my hair. And the oil is so lovely.

I have a sample of this that I received as a free gift, and while I certainly appreciate the gift, I just can’t wear this one.
Mexican Black Flower Vanilla has patchouli listed as a note, but if it’s in there, it must be a different kind of patchouli because to me, it’s NOTHING like this.
I agree with those who say this is similar to “Angel”… that, too, smells like a little sweetness trying to peek over a big wall of patchouli.
And like Angel, (and many other patch-based fragrances) it grows over time and heartily resists my scrubbing.
With a name like “Earth Mother”, I really wanted to love this one. I just don’t.
    Best wishes & happy sniffing!

I am reminded of my love Angel. This could be her baby sister! I love Dame perfumery,so nice and all their scents are top notch. I LOVE Black flower Mexican Vanilla.

i get caramel, soft musk and a hint of lemon at first. there is something reminiscent of a soft lavender, then poof, it disappears. after a few more minutes i get a hint of patchouli but it’s very smooth, and not a strong or dirty patchouli.
overall a nice scent, just a little too soft and sweet for my personal tastes.

Received as a sample with my modest order. Though I do not wear feminines….this is lovely. Soft and sweet, so aptly named. Well done!

I agree with SuzanneA description below – “A soft musky caramel with herbal lemon and lavender.” There is also a dry, sheer patchouli and perhaps some sage, too.
On name alone, this is how I imagined Dame’s Mate Heliotrope and Patchouli to smell like. In that one, I get zero patchouli.
Earth Mother is well blended and balanced: equal parts sweet, soft, dry, earthy, herbal, refreshing, yet comforting and cozy.
It reminds me of Mate Heliotrope Patchouli but with noticeable patchouli this time around.
I can’t stand Angel, but I admit…I can kind of draw comparison. It’s hard to do a sweet-ish patchouli scent without referring to The One That Started Them All. That said, I really like Earth Mother and in no way does the faint comparison to Angel make me any less likely to wear it.

This mother is a woman first and foremost. The sage, galbanum, and patchouli keep her grounded and spiritual. The musk, sandalwood and jasmine keeps her sensuality alive. The caramal, amber, and vanilla are all about her warmth and comfort.

It’s the dry heat of Arizona. This smoky and powdery scent evokes the image of a mother figure who put a lot of love into everything she does. It’s elegant and glamorous, totally fitting for occasions where evening gowns are required (or pantsuits, if you’re power pantsuits kind of gal). I can imagine a mother going to her daughter’s wedding wearing this.

At the risk of sounding incredibly hokey I will just go ahead and say: this truly smells like being wrapped in the arms of Mother Earth. All the delicious aromatic scents that invoke the Goddess embrace you, the lemon and sage combined smell a bit like lemon grass to me followed by earthy florals and caramel, musk, patchouli. What is so beautiful about Earth Mother is that it smells herbal, floral, aromatic, musky, woodsy and gourmand all at one time! This is a masterpiece of blending. While this doesn’t have huge silage it is pretty good and very long lasting over 7 hours and just now starting to fade. Earth Mother is a very beautiful scent that I am so proud to own. Many blessings to my wonderful swap partner without who I would not be sitting here in olfactory bliss at this moment <3

A soft musky caramel with herbal lemon and lavender keeps the sweetness in check. Jasmine and lov keep this feminine in a delicate way. The green galbanum in the heart is a sophisticated move as a lot of higher end niche offerings add galbanum to the middle to navagate a gentle gourmand that doesnt get out of control (im thinking offhand stephane humbert 777 femme does this as well)
Patchouli and musk give this an earthiness and sandalwood and vanilla support the rest of the story.
If you are looking for a calming, soft scent like being hugged in your mothers bosom.. This is for you to provide a feeling of softness and peaceful tranquility.
    High quality!

Earth Mother won me over, as I thought she would. Black Flower Mexican Vanilla and Mate, Heliotrope & Patchouli are also favorites of mine. Like Black Flower, Earth Mother gives me a vibe of happy comfort, but in a lighter, sunnier way. On me it’s a soft citrusy caramel along with the lovely florals, with hints of brightness which could be the galbanum, a flicker of sage, and something like vanilla cookie dough. This is not a sweet fragrance to me though, more like a soft, comforting loveliness. I seem to smell heliotrope in here, similar to the Mate, Heliotrope & Patchouli. The sillage is soft on me, and the longevity moderate, except on fabric where it lasts for days. I love it wafting up from my bathrobe! Perfect for cuddling up with a cup of tea and a nice cat, and for turning in at the end of the day. Anytime, really.

    Well isn’t this lovely!
Earth Mother is warmth, and tenderness, and love. It’s sweet, but not in an overwhelming way. Caramel, and earthy musk deepened by amber. It smells like sweet earth, and dulce de leche.
This is not a powerful scent, it hovers just at the edge of your awareness. It’s there, I can smell it, but it’s as if it’s molded with my skin and just made *me* smell better. Would be utterly safe to wear anywhere, I doubt anyone but me can smell it regardless and if they do I doubt they would identify the scent as perfume.
Remains to be seen how long it will last, I have not had good longevity with this house in the past, so will report back after a number of wearings.

At the beginning of the year, Mr. Jeffrey made known there would be two new releases for the DAME artist collection. Counting down the days till March 1st, I was so excited! I was looking forward to learning more of these mysterious perfumes. Also to see the lovely artwork that would accompany them by none other then the wonderful, DAME Artist-In-Residence V. Dave Dame. One day in late February I was browsing the DAME perfumery website and to my greatest surprise…the samples were already available!! I ordered them both right away. Daily tracking my package every step of the way till it arrived. I was so pleased when it arrived with the lovely packaging, note, and generous samples sweet Jeffrey always includes. Now to the perfume…
Let’s just say this perfume surpassed my expectations in every way! Earth Mother is absolutely comforting. To me she is the perfume I’ve always been looking for. She is soft, feminine, and glows of a woman’s warmth. She radiates down to earth elegance. Her composure is that of confidence. Her hugs are loving and smell of ambery musk. The patchouli being her aura of sensuality. Florals sweetened by melted dulce de leche (caramel) from her soft long hair. She is the epitome of pure loveliness inside and out.
My sample has been my go-to ever since I received it. The scent will still linger on my skin and clothing the next morning. I feel as if it is a “smells like me, but better” perfume. She is everything I wanted Narciso Rodriguez edt and SJP Lovely to be. NR would burn the back of my throat and take too long to settle with my chemistry. SJP Lovely can smell too synthetic at times. Don’t get me wrong, Earth Mother does not smell like these two perfumes. But they are in the same genre. Earth Mother has a natural musk scent. It is sensual yet gentle. I will be so happy when I can have the beautiful full size bottle in my life. I want her to be “my smell”. Thank you dear Jeffrey for this gorgeous perfume!

Trusting Jeffrey Dame implicitly is the perfect way to put it. I can’t think of another perfumer that I can say that about. I haven’t sniffed Earth Mother yet, but as I do trust Mr. Dame, I’m sure at least a 5ml “super sample” from his website is in my fairly near future. (I wouldn’t be nervous to blind buy the big bottle, except that my perfume budget is limited.)
If it smells half as good as everything else I’ve experienced from him, it is sure to be a winner.
I will update once I do order and receive some. Amber, patchouli, caramel, and judicious use of musk are great in my book, and I love the way Mr. Dame treats jasmine, citruses, and woods (sandalwood, in this case).

8I can’t top akawanis’ description. I’ll just add that in a sea of same-old same-old fruity, overly sweet and giddy-girly Eaux de Mallrat, Jeffreys new creation comes as a welcome and refreshing change. This is a very grown-up and different scent. Different, thank goodness.
I must admit I was disconcerted at first spray. My reaction was What the …? Since I trust Jeff implicitly I gave it time. And I was rewarded. Now I’m going around the house with my nose glued to my wrist. As all the Dame Perfumery creations, the notes are masterly and harmoniously blended.
    Another winner. Thank you, Jeff.

Gaia… The single most universal theme that convergently evolve across countless cultures- from the voluptuous Paleolithic figurines, Egyptian “Bird Lady”, Aegean, Anatolian, Irish Anu, and Hindu Darga. She’s a sensual yet nurturing source of life. It’s therefore fitting, that Dame’s creation is an earthy Musk-Patchouli-Vanilla-Amber reminiscent of a mother’s hug.
She is multifaceted. Vanilla conjures a kitchen with freshly baked goods, her nurturing side. Patchouli represents the earth- fertility required for crops and nourishment to spring forth. And equally important is her sensual Musk-Amber.
If you’ve enjoyed “Black Flower Mexican Vanilla” and “Mate, Heliotrope & Patchouli”, you will love this beautiful blend.
On my skin, the least pronounced notes are caramel & galbanum. There’s a gourmand warmth from vanilla, but zero sugar-cloyingness. Similarly, no overly-sharp galbanum greens that present an acquired taste for some.
A very modern take on an ancient archetype. I love this.
