I bought this, thinking it had the quality Dior dna but I can’t smell it or the scent for that matter. This cost way too much for it to be a skin scent that smells like wall paint
Popregun – :
Managed to get hold of a 100ml tester of this as soon as I read it was being discontinued. I got through a couple of bottles of this many years ago and it is perfect for the warmer weather. On my skin it is fresh, elegant and strong too and the longevity is very good. Stock up now as the prices will escalate.

People should wear more of the characteristic perfumes of the 80’s-90’s – and some of the early 00’s (and before). Those creations allways have had a unique style, but later came this dumbed-down risk aversion, the big corporations started to look after only for the profit, and today, you barely can find something original (not in the niche category).
The movies, the music industry, perfumery…. everything is going mainstream. Meh.
And now, according to the requirements of the modern age, this beauty is getting discountinued.
Another big loss….

I love men’s fragrances, but honestly this one is a little bit too sudsy for me. It literally reminds me of the lather of shaving cream. It is thick and creamy but it’s like getting shaving cram in your mouth.

In a strange way this is like cologne on me
and citrousy actually “lemony”.
I really wanted it so badly but I was expecting something deep, rich and airy.
Unfortunately does not work on me.
Maybe the reformulated one that I tested in a shop was a new batch.

Another unique and interesting fragrance from Dior.
It may sound strange but this perfume really does remind me of sand on a beach. It is airy and fresh and light and salty and dry like a breezy beach in summer or spring.
It gives a relaxing and harmonious feeling when wearing it.
Wonderful summer scent.
Massive respect for this creation..though not my favourite from Dior it is so brilliantly done that you simply have to smell it.

Together with Diorella, Dune – the original female release from ’91 – is Dior’s scent that featured such a brilliant construction and plethora of notes that made it unisex at once. So I was at surprised when Dune Pour Homme came out quite some years after Dune, asking myself both, why did they do it and why did it take so long. Dune – again the first one, featured a particularly slightly bitter, yet utterly suave herbal opening that together with its strong sandalwood and the related story of the jardin de curé that Maurice Roger may have submitted as the guiding brief, stands for me also as the last mainstream perfume with a grand narrative, that was fully exploited through advertisement – Grain de Muscs blog beautifully captures this history. With such a herbal note in mind, I was most curious what Dune Pour Homme had to add to the whole Dune saga and its narrative, and it took me several attempts to fully ‘get’ it – now I consider it as one of the last great Dior men’s mainstream releases. Being way more softspoken than its women’s counterpart, the fig leaf, cassis, sandalwood blend creates an especially blurry appearance, hazy, nothing sharp, a gas of impressions. Something I also recall from Hermès, Santal Massoïa, from a few years later. All in all, a charming yet straightforward, even brilliant release, reminiscent of a time when Dior came up with witty and original releases once in a while. Now sadly, the above mentioned bitter-herbal opening of Dune has been messed with in reformulation, putting Dune Pour Homme in a good position in the Dune complex, after all.

I have to make this down sorry. I absolutely love egoiste for example. That is also a strange, complex, masculine composition. I also love fig. But for the price, the performance of this nice perfume is shocking. It does not project at all. you could buy almost four fragrances for the price of this and be covered all year round. I would gladly wear Dune if it was stronger.
roma1402 – :
My dad has this, and it’s my favorite ever. I’m kind of sad that it’s such a “masculine” perfume, because I would love to wear it every day. It just moves me so much.

What a scent this is! Wow! It was pure accident that this scent came to me. So my gf decided to get me Dior Homme as a Christmas gift last year, she went up to the SA at the Dior boutique at a local mall and ask for Dior Homme but got this instead( must have been a new SA and my gf doesn’t really care much about fragrances to differentiate what is what). So i got this on Christmas and tore open the wrapping like a little kid but got a surprise as what i saw wasn’t Dior Homme but Dior Dune. Whatever right i thought to myself.
So i gave it a go and wow such a nice sweet soft creamy scent. The fig notes are the most prominent notes in this fragrance. Got about 6 plus hours of longevity, 7 on clothes with decent projection, about an arms length at best. Overall i like it and was glad i decided to keep this instead of swapping it for Dior Homme which i wanted. I give it an 8.5/10

I get a nice Herbal, green, forest-fruit orchard type vibe (nothing DRY at all)at the top , nice classy Rose -mid ..and a nice woody background with some creamyness(vanilla/tonka) …….Classy, Masculine , mediteranean type vibe for sure …Spring/Summer and early Fall ,perfect .
serj0483 – :
Dune has this remarkable fig leaf, cassis leaf and basil opening. The green, herbaceous notes are so strong and rich. After the initial green herbal opening we can smell the arrival of the rose, sage and fig bark. In the mid, Dune starts going more floral and slightly woody. The sandalwood paired with the rose gives a slight creaminess to the scent, giving a good base for the florals to shine. In the dry down we are treated to a nice vanilla, tonka and cedar combination. Dune is a great spring and summer scent. I find it works day or night. It is office friendly and perfect for summer vacations and holidays. Dune should be worn under a linen shirt, while you’re trying to decide on either going wine tasting, or taking a scenic drive to a town you’ve never been to before to try that one diner or deli that your office buddies keep telling you about.
poposhka – :
So I’m a real big fig lover, and I gotta say, I’m not really seeing the fig here. This scent really isn’t bad at all, it’s got summer written all over it, you can imagine hiking through a hot forest on your way to a beach. The wood is there, the sage is strong, but the fig just isn’t really all that figgy, which disappoints me. There is some sweetness and fruitiness, but it’s really hidden. But overall I really like this fragrance, it’s mild and not overwhelming or in your face. It’s subtle and it’s earthy without feeling like it’s a bottle of lost hippie juice. It’s held together nicely and feels mature. Really nicely balanced. 7.5/10
Mevro243JeomiWogkig – :
I have tested it for several times in different seasons, it fares better in hot humid days, smells soapy and a bit sour in cold days, but there is always a strong plastic doll like smell which I can’t tolerate at all.

I’m sorry to say I’ve only discovered this beauty following its discontinuation.
I was led to it by discovery of my fondness for fig leaf via Salvatore Ferragamo Pour Homme – also dc’d I think. To quote Planet of the Apes – “You maniacs! Damn you! Damn you all to hell!”
The lovely blend of dry and off-dry botanicals with the florals and woody base (based on my proclivity I must have some tree DNA hidden away in me somewhere) brings a smile to my soul. For this reason I find myself reaching for this to wear to work after a long week, to meet friends for lunch or drinks, or just to read a book at home.
It makes the world seem like a better place. I’d say make sure you like fig notes before you make this a blind buy, but as the bottles are becoming harder to find you might want to take the plunge and if it’s not for you just sell it on eBay to people like me (wistfully monitoring our dwindling last bottle) in about two years for $150 🙂
sermix – :
Dune is an otherworldly and unique fresh fragrance that transcends the decade of its creation. It opens with a citric burst of freshness before a paradoxically juicy/dry fig note comes to the fore. Bracing sage and creamy sandalwood then lead to a sweet, rubbery dry down of tonka and vanilla, which is pierced by transparent, nettle-like fig bark. The overall effect is alien and shimmering.
Dune transcends genre – it is dry, woody, green, herbal, floral and almost oriental. It’s as odd as it sounds, and completely beguiling. An underrated classic from Dior.
efimka – :
One of the best 90 men fragances! Saddly discontinued! Dior is nowadays worried about Sauvage, Adiccted, and Dior Homme line… and the icons was forgotten… A modern and why not such a classic fragance, may be in the Eau de Rochas for women style … A waterly but misty and bitter citric cologne in the old-style Dior fragances …
Herboristics touches, woody notes, different bitter yelow and green citrus for a luminous and warm Sunbeams in the freshsea for an opulent cologne
Геймер – :
This is Dior’s most underrated fragrance for men.
It smells like spring/summer, very green fresh, yet rich.

The only down side is the projection, but longevity is a monster.

I love Dior – they are my favorite “house” at the moment.
It took me a while to track this one down and I have to say….it has a great opening.
However…….
The dry-down is awful (well , to me anyway). The sandalwood smells so generic. Like I’ve smelled this 100 times in different cheapie frags and body-sprays (read: Bath & Body Works) .
I bought a decant FIRST …thank goodness. So it saved me the trouble of a $60.00 mistake.
Sorry Dior, I think you were lazy in this construction.
Longevity is fair/poor as well.

You know that feeling when some smells do not evoke memories of anything you’ve experienced earlier ?? That makes it really hard to describe… but hey, the opening can be described in three words : soapy pear brandy. That’s right. Not very boozy, but that is the general feeling. I’m quite sure the fig is the note that gives me resemblance of pear. Powdery and warm, sweet and yet spicy, this smell is fresh, original and very unique IMO, as I don’t recall any other perfumes like this – a summer oriental maybe?? Somehow casual, but in a classy way if that makes any sense.
Opening with the figgy/pear vibes dominating, flanked by spices like sage’n’basil and ending in a cedarlike sandalwood base with hints of vanilla. Feels quite synthetic in some ways, as if a truckload of notes were put in a big bowl, but remarkably the smell that you pour out blends together really well – respects to Monsieur Cresp for this bold move.
Not sure what time of year this is most fitting, but you can definitely rock it on any spring or summer day. It’s not exactly my style, but very interesting. Used to have a batch from 2008 produced in France and longevity was just fine. Still, I will have to keep on searching for that Dior scent that will be my favourite.

I remember that this fragrance was simply perfect about 9-13 years ago; it had excellent sillage, monstrous longevity, and ridiculous projection!
Dune Pour Homme was a one-of-a-kind fragrance because, in addition to the aforementioned qualities, it was versatile, elegant, timeless, and very unique (certainly, the original formulas of Dune Pour Homme and Kouros are the best fragrances that I’ve smelled in my life). Nothing ever smelled like this masterpiece by Mr. Olivier Cresp; no words are enough to describe the undisputed quality this olfactory elixir once possessed…you would never get tired of this scent; it was that great!
Unfortunately, reformulation is the worst perfume archenemy, which shows that manufacturers embrace mass-produced stuff sales, with no care for the customers’ satisfaction; the current version of Dune Pour Homme smells good the first few minutes, but then it fades away, giving the impression of being, at best, a sad shadow of its predecessor.
My score for the original formula:
Fragrance: 100/10
Durability: 100/10
Projection: 100/10
Versatility: 100/10
Quality: 100/10
Average: 100/10

This is pure sand to me under a summer sun. This frag can awake lots of pleasant associations and memories from present and past: childhood memories from sandbox to a dusty-sandy soccer field, desert dunes with oasis, warm summer wind. The most prominent notes for me are fig leaf, cassis leaf, sandalwood, basil (all these notes make an illusion smell of warm sand) also a bit of rose (comes to mind Sting’s hit “Desert rose”). A dreamy but confident from one side it may seem a bit linear for somebody but for me depending of temperature and sunny/cloudy weather i can smell almost the all nuances from the note breakdown. Even vanilla and tonka beans which I don’t like that much are on the right place of the composition.
filin70 – :
Dune pour home is the most forgotten and underestimated fragrance of the Dior main line. A romantic eau de cologne with a strong woody fig and citrus top followed by a distinctive floral and water accord after. It gives off a sense of a refreshing sea breeze, with sweet and green elements. It used to be better but still very natural smelling. Perfect alternative to more traditional colognes.

Hello everyone!
Does anybody know if Dune Pour Homme by Christian Dior has been reformulated?
My older brother got a bottle back in 2002 (which he shared with me without knowing it… He, he, he!): it was an amazingly gorgeous fragrance!! It lasted forever on my skin, with a powerful sillage. Many women used to ask me: “Wow! What fragrance are you wearing? You smell delicious!”.
In fact, this fragrance inspired my nickname for this page, VintageDuneFan, because it used to be amazing!
I bought my own bottle in 2010, but the juice contained on it was highly disappointing. Dune Pour Homme became a common and weak citrus fragrance. Now it seems like a sort of Eau de Dune Summer Pour Homme or something. It has nothing to do with the original formula, which was a female compliments factory, such a wonderful olfactory elixir.

I think my nose is far better than those who write reviews like ‘nothing special’, ‘the smells of God’, ‘i don’t understand why people like this fragrance’ etc. I’d say whoever write such reviews, not only has disfunctional olfactory sense, but also lacking all the vocabulary, let alone to describe a fragrance.

I gifted this to my husband a few days ago.
He needed a new summer scent, and was going to pick up a cheapie or a body spray just to get through the summer months.
I felt he deserved something very nice, and very special, so based on reviews, and that Dior and Dune are classic and revered, I went with Dune.
No, it is not the usual watery sweet so called aquatic. Not generic in the least.
Very classy, casual, natural.
Comes off a tad sweet initially, but not so much so. A bit of herb, spice, mixed with dry floral and fruit, woody , clean sand and sunshine fresh.
Fresh without added citrus or minty mint… must be the sage and basil . It does not scream Green however.
It is blended exceptionally well.
On him, it`s masculine and sexy, but not overwhelming in any way.
I want to forever lean in to experience.
It is a complement even to his physical appearance – golden brown (I call him my Butterscotch) skin tone, clean shaven head and face, a broad, strong, and mature man.
He will not smell as a teen, a very young man, or of a common, redone, overdone scent.
I cannot think of anyone I have encountered lately wearing a similar scent, so this will be associated only with him.
I think this will go over well for him during the muggy humid Michigan summer since it gives off an arid sandy dryness.
He has taken a liking to outdoor activities, and I believe this is perfect for being outside, and also for any event summertime might bring.
Sillage is 6/10
Longevity so far about 10+ hours

This fragrance has such a wonderful fig note. I can’t help but think of fragrances like Ferragamo Pour Homme or Salvadore Dali Agua Verde when I smell it, but this fragrance has another level of depth to it.
It radiates a clean warmness. It’s very much like that pleasant fragrance you get when stepping out of salt water and being covered in sunlight. It’s that clean warm yet somehow cool fragrance of the salt water evaporating off of your skin in bright sunlight.
But that said, it is even more about the fig. An absolutely pure under-ripe fig … also being covered with bright sunlight!
Add to that some soft creamy floral notes drenched in clean clear white musk and gentle hints of tonka and you get a truly well rounded, robust, silken fragrance that wears like your most comfortable dress shirt. Classy, bright and comfortable.

Dune is delightful. Initially though, when you try it for the first time, you may be somewhat underwhelmed. That’s because Dune is a subtle, softly spoken scent.
Be patient, give it time. After several wearings it reveals its enigmatic charm. Dune is an appropriate name as it brings to mind the image of a shimmering heat haze rising off hot desert sands to form a liquidy mirage. And like a mirage, this gentle fragrance is fleeting.
Dune is contemplative – it draws me in and demands my attention. I think it’s one of those fragrances designed for the wearer’s exclusive enjoyment. When I wear it I savour the experience.
And the more I wear Dune, the more I love its haunting, delicate, fig-based beauty.

About 10 years ago, a friend of mine described Dune as being the most wonderful masculine scent of all time. Since that day I was utterly excited to meet it.Last year I purchased a 3.4 oz bottle and it became my signature scent.
Dune is an aquatic fragrance. But doesn’t carry the classic water effect as many aquatics do, like Polo Blue, Cool Water or Acqua di Giò. There isn’t any combination of citruses, fruity notes or mint. It’s a dry aquatic.
The water effect is given by fig leaf, sage, cassis and a hint of hedione jasmine. Nevertheless, it’s not green. In the dry down, a much more aromatic and jasmine-tone trace is kept. Cedar and sandalwood transfer dryness onto that floating-watery aura, creating the arid sensation.
Dune’s impressions and feelings can be represented by a pilgrim who spent some hours in an oasis, then resumed his walk through a thirsty and arid desert.

Dry, light, airy… perfect summer fragrance!
As others have mentioned, this is like being at the beach on a hot day. It shines in summer weather, bringing to mind blue skies and hot sand. I would expect this do to especially well in the summer, but would not go for it in cooler months as it is just too light to be noticed at any other time of the year.
Definitely a must if you want something unique and appealing, it is also completely accessible and inoffensive to others. So perfect for wearing around people who don’t like the smell of perfume. It’s that kind of scent as well.
A brilliant fragrance for hot weather. Well done Dior!
sergsharov – :
A unique summer fragrance that achieves an impressive freshness without the use of aquatics, citrus or soapy notes. Instead you get a huge dose of fig leaves and discreet woody notes that work marvellously on a hot day.
Dune may be an aquired taste for some since the fig assault can be a little overwhelming. But the high quality is obvious and the scent stays in your clothes for days. It is light, but it is certainly not thin.
You can also enjoy having Dune all to yourself. Nobody knows it and nobody uses it, which only makes it even more attractive. I love it.

Never saw the attraction to this one. Doesnt smell great by any means. I usually can enjoy fig in scents, but not this one.
ananasik – :
I was hoping the fig wood bark and rose notes would be stronger, but instead I’m being prevented from enjoying the scent due to a buzzy/metallic type of wood note and perhaps some calone. I certainly find it bearable (in small doses) but it’s just not really pleasant to me, so I can’t imagine myself wanting to reach for this one. However, for those who are used to the synthetics used here, my guess is that you would view it as a masterful composition. I’d prefer to wear OP Juice, which also has a fig note, for example.
Evgen2008tt – :
I bought Dune way back in the late 90’s, and to this day it remains a favourite. This is a cologne that to me, in its early release was, and still is, a ground-breaking scent. So distinctive. So much like nothing else I’d ever smelt prior in a male fragrance. Nothing since has really come close to this in terms of colognes for the warmer months. Sure, there is Aqua di Gio, and others, and yes, as good as they are, they don’t come close to this brilliant concoction. Olivier Cresp and the people at Dior struck a well of creative genius when Dune was created. Shame it is so difficult to find now, but that just adds to its allure.

I have constantly had a bottle of Dune on my shelf since it came out in ’97. I never get tired of it. A lot of people don’t like it because of the fig note, but thats what makes it great IMO. Ultimately this is a fresh smell, with lemon and grapefruit bursting out the top and a mildly spicy drydown. Sillage good, projection good, but the longevity could be better. I get 2-3 hrs tops. But that aside, if you can find a bottle, you simply must try it.

Taking my neutral reviews back from it.It is charmingly peaceful. So green , so leafy(fig etc).Whatever leaf is there it doesnot matter , it just resembles some forest tree or a garden of trees.
I never found any similarity between this and any other perfume in the fashion industry.
It is just so much green and fresh that it just calms , relaxes the nerves. If composure can be liquified its name should have been Dune(PH).
I am giving it 20 out of 10.

It’s Arabian nights to me, Aladdins cave, exotic because of the fig notes.
An elegant scent for when the sun starts to set and the air is still warm.
A lonely scent because it’s just the fig amidst all the sand. I find it doesn’t project a lot and to me that helps make it work.
Not for someone who wants to get noticed by everyone, I feel you wear it for that one person (other than yourself) who is meant to get close.
2 thumbs up from me, but a definite try before you buy, the fig notes won’t be everyones cup of tea.

This Dune is really the only Dior male cologne that I really love. This is greatly appealing to me with a unique woody fig. If you like other Diors you might not like this and vice versa, maybe. To me this is the best contemporary Dior.

It is a dreamy , creamy sexy , motherf**** juice. The stupid fiend bottle has a crazy semispherical type of cap.Longevity sux big time , but it makes me sleep with comfort not boredom. So this means when i start to enjoy it , it will make me sleep , so whats the use of this lazy feeling scent.
My feelings are neutral towards it.’N ya , it feels old.

I find many of Dior’s fragrances odd in a very appealing way and Dune is no different. Centered around fig, it is something of a dry, airy scent with light floral notes that lend a fresh, morning-garden feel. There is also something that reminds me of the beach in Dune–some oceanic quality I can’t exactly put my finger on. If Philosykos is the watery, green, quintessential fig fragrance, then Dune is its drier, woodier counterpart. Excellent during the summer months and really an altogether unique fragrance. I wouldn’t recommend buying this blind–especially if you haven’t smelled fig before. However, Dune is certainly worth trying, and you may find yourself pleasantly surprised by it.

relying on the positive reviews of reliable reviewers here and BaseNotes , i bought it blind……….and all gone to drain…….. except the top note which stays hardly for few minutes , nothing can be termed as pleasant.
I cant stand that FIG. Absolutely uncontrolled no
