Description

Donna Karan launches new perfume DKNY Stories in the summer of 2018, inspired by the New York City – its infinite possibilities, the feeling the freedom it offers and the metropolitan style it radiates.

“There is no place like New York City;
It loves, inspires and transforms you.
It is like a book of million blank pages waiting for a million new stories.
More than a place where you can make it, New York makes you.”

The composition is Oriental-Floral with woody and fruity tones. It opens with an unusual combination of spices and pink guava mousse that leads to a floral heart of jasmine and iris refreshed with a tea accord. The base ends with sandalwood and amber notes, accompanied by a sweet touch of vanilla.

The newest fragrance campaign is called DKNY Stories featuring Grace Hartzel. The fragrance is available as a 30 ml, 50 ml and 100 ml Eau de Parfum, with a Purse Spray Flacon in size of 7ml Eau de Parfum, and matching body products, perfumed shower gel and a body lotion.

The opening reminds me of sparkling champagne, very fruity in a kind of sharp way. Then it tones down a bit, but still I can mostly feel the fruitiness, there is a hint of powdery notes. It’s quite sweet, in a boozy way. I’d say it’s a pleasant scent on a lighter note, although quite generic and rather unoriginal.

Reminds med as written in other reviews of a softer edition of womanity by Mugler. A more quiet but also a bit different little sister. Smooth, soft and powdery. Moderate longevity and silage. Really feminine scent on my skin.

On my skin, it is a fruity powdery perfume. A bit sweet, a bit sharp at the beginning, and clean without being soapy. Nice fragrance. Not my cup of tea, but it is good.

I really like this. Sweet, fresh and floral with some spicy oriental woodiness underneath. I find it very modern and wearable. Re: the similarity to Womanity, I’ve never tried it myself but now I’m intrigued to, because lot of people seem to find Womanity repulsive yet I can’t imagine DKNY Stories provoking such a strong negative reaction. Well, it hasn’t yet for me. 🙂

Strange. When I look at the notes I wouln’t expect this scent. It does remind me of Womanity but this would be a much softer, more casual version. It’s sweet but salty with a oriental touch. It makes me curious!

Everyone is completly right about the Womanity resemblance but i believe it is more close (if not a carbon copy) of “Womanity pour elles” which was less harsh on that caviar note and more softer and sweeter thanks to strawberry. Im kinda liking it. I dislike Womanity but this one i actually enjoy wearing. Sillage is just right enough to not give you a headache and longevity is quite okeish as well.
Softer, sweeter Womanity pour elles dupe. Yep, thats what it is

I just smelled this yesterday and came here to say that this smells like Womanity, but I see that’s been covered in previous reviews already.

The first thing that come to mind after trying this on skin is: Womanity! Stories is so similar to that Mugler indeed (the accord of salty fig/caviar is here from the start to the end). A reworked, sweetened (much sweeter! very sweet!) version of Womanity with a challenging woody transformation inside the dry down.
A solid release for those who love Black Opium, La Vie est Belle, Poison Girl and of course Womanity.

Curious how this could smell anything like Womanity, which was straight up caviar on me (no fig notes of any kind, unfortunately) and actually made me dry heave on initial spray (one of only a handful of fragrances to have that dubious honor). Is it possible that the ambergris is giving off some kind of fish/salty ocean vibe similar to Womanity? I see no other notes between the two that would even draw me to that conclusion, but then again, the aromachemicals used these days do smell like they came from the same vat…

I feel a bit guilty for having not great feedback about this one because DKNY kindly sent me a free sample! 🙁
This is a very pleasant fragrance indeed and I’m very impressed with the sillage and longevity. But as a lover of all things out of the ordinary, Stories isn’t really my cup of tea.
Maybe my sense of smell isn’t as refined as others’ or perhaps I just don’t have the patience to compare the differences between Stories, Black Opium, La Vie Est Belle, Luna etc as they develop.
To me, sadly, this is just another sweet one. But I would wear it if it happened to be on my dressing table and I was in the mood to smell sugary.

I tested one spray on my arm on a hot and humid day. The opening is definitely reminiscent of Womanity, which I hate, but there was more to DKNY Stories which made it wearable and interesting for me. It does become quite fruity sweet and candy-like over the first hour. The drydown is soft, woody, still a bit sweet but creamy and a touch spicy.
It has very good sillage and longevity on my skin, which I was pleasantly surprised about. The bottle is well-designed and pleasant to hold and use. I’d pick it up at a discount, but it hasn’t captured my imagination enough for me to buy it at full price.
(As a side note, there is something bothersome to me in the drydown that I’m finding in a number of newer perfumes, e.g. Jason Wu, Chloé Nomade. It’s in Stories, as well, but to a lesser degree so I’m just about OK with it.)

Smelled this today on a card.
First sniff was pretty much 100% Womanity. I’m positive that anyone who likes that will love this. I see the poster below made the instant connection also. I agree also that it gourmands up later on the card. If I ran out of
Womanity I would definitely buy this instead. The opening maybe had a little more of a citrus fresh feel, but they’re so alike, it could be a citrus summer version.

I have sprayed DKNY Stories today on paper and met that familiar futuristic salty cold accord which became “new thing” and spreads like pandemia. Ironically this note was so hated 4-5 years ago, I remember comments here. Mr Mugler with Womanity was so ahead of time…
Later in the evening paper was smelling different, like creamy soft vanilla. The pepper and iris gave a nice tender and crisp touch..What is that? What I see?…
    Voila! Vera Wang Princess.
I can absolutely see this as a popular one, it has life and nostalgic adventure, time machine from neon lights to high school darling.
1st DKNY Story decoded. I can’t wait to be continued.

For a mainstream perfume this is pretty different but againts niche perfumes its blah. It starts with this strange guava cream and it blends with this grape-candy-violet floral smell thats also sweet. Lastly it ends in this very soft sandalwood scent. Its cute, its trendy, it does its thing. I will say the scent matches the color scheme of the ad and bottle perfectly.

Bought this today at Macy’s. Love at first sniff!!
I get all the notes…good blending here…and nice bottle. There is powdery vibe…slight balanced fruity vibe…and ….thankfully…wood-ish irisy delight…and there is a tad of creamy in the mix too. I am not saying this is a dupe for any of these…but the general “vibe” I am getting is fitting into the genre of…Mon Guerlain,SJP Lovely, SJP Unspoken,Jil by Jil Sander,ect..ect…This is a move in the right direction for DKNY,IMO, so I am sure the flankers will follow..lol
    Very nice scent…moderate sillage/longevity.

Really liking that one! I tried it a couple weeks ago and really thought it smelled nice..so I bought it yesterday, and what a pretty scent..it has a fresh fruity undertone , then goes warm, floral, all in whole it is very feminine, urban, nice mix of fresh and floral, .i don’t necessarily detect all the notes…mostly at first the guava, with its juicy vibe, them some creamy florals..not sure I get any pepper or cardammon…the base is soft and i detect the vanilla…I think it will become my summer staple for sure !

Tested this on a sampler card a few days ago at my local Shoppers Drug Mart, because it was a brand new fragrance & it seemed interesting. The lady working there knew nothing about it and wasn’t told anything about it either, which I thought was strange. I went online to try to find the notes, but couldn’t find any info, anywhere on this. BUT… So happy to come online today & see they have it posted on here now. I really like it, especially in the drydown, so smooth and creamy! It’s also bit powdery in that last stage, but not baby powderish which some perfumes have that I can’t stand. On my to buy list!
