Description

In August 2008 the jeweler’s house of David and Sybil Yurman will include a new fragrant jewel of their portfolio. It is a women’s fragrance, floral-chypre, created in cooperation with Harry Fermont of Firmenich.

The signature fragrance David Yurman Fragrance brings wafts of mandarin, and fresh green notes of black currant leaf and petals, followed by floral notes of peony, water lily, rose otto, patchouli, exotic woods and musk. This composition is not pyramidal; its aromas interlace and add to each other. The intention behind the composition of this fragrance was not to accentuate one note, neither to characterize the scent by some of ingredients, but to smell all the notes at the same time.

The fragrance will be available as EDP in 50ml (1.7 fl.oz.) and 75ml ( 2.6 fl.oz.) sizes, with matching scented 200ml (6.9 fl.oz.) body cream.

The bottle for this fragrant jewel was designed by David Lipman, creative director of Yurman’s house. The idea was to capture the fragrant liquid into a gemstone shaped bottle. The bottle consists of plastic-lined inner piece enclosed in Italian crystal shell, with sculpted gold cap reminiscent of Yurman Cable Collection of jewelry. The bottle neck is created in a form of Yurman’s wedding band.

The nose behind this fragrance is Harry Fremont.

One of THE best rose fragrances I’ve encountered! Long lasting, put together sooo well!
    Just stunning!

Lovely fragrance, once the harshness of the first 20-30 minutes wears off. In the beginning it is perfumey and overwhelming, but as it dries, the lovely fresh peony and rose begin emerging and it becomes a beauty.

    P.S
If I didn’t know who made the perfume I would have bet on it being
Van cleef and Arpels, particularly Van cleef by Van cleef – my nose
“ reads” it like that even though the fragrance is different, it has that vibe .
However this one is something extraordinary and worth the price tag .
Here in London it’s pricier than Chanel but it’s justified , it’s just worth it .
When I wear it I just feel I’m being good to myself and that feels great .

I blind bought my first bottle of this some years ago .
When I unpackaged it and sniffed it for the first time, well … love at first sniff !! The best blind buy in history lol
I am on my tenth bottle now !
It’s a sophisticated perfume , glamorous yet traditional.
And it smells very expensive, I know that’s an odd thing to say , but it
Just smells so rich and luxurious, a tad on the soapy side in the best possible way.
They certainly achieved what they set out to do when you read the description above in that you smell all the notes together , the Drydown is the same as the opening .
I don’t find it floral in any sense as it’s so well blended it just smells like a classic .
Another one that has to be smelled to be appreciated, as there is nothing I can think of that
    Smells this good .
I have an obscene amount of perfume and love so many that I never thought I could choose a signature scent , but that changed when I found this I’m happy to say
    It’s just too good lol
I wear this all year round and others too but as the Autumn and winter comes in I want to wear it all the time , it’s definitely better in cooler weather due to the richness .
I explored the rest of the line and the fresh essence is divine and the exotic essence has some similarities to this but this one is for me Is in a different league.

I knew when I bought my first bottle. It was 1.7 oz. I read about David Yurman and after reading a glowing review of this fragrance on another site, decided to buy it. The cost was about 45 dollars I think. After trying it, I wrote a review here. You can find it down below. Well, a few others ladies tried it and were made David Yurman converts. This is the best of his perfumes. I promptly bought the largest bottle of this fragrance that he offered. As time went on, the large bottles started disappearing. So I knew I had a gem. I bought 2 more 1.7 oz bottles and wore this to work and in the evening during the late fall and entire winter. When I went back to buy more, (I believe in being proactive and when I find something good and I really like it, I stock up.) By this time only the 1.7 ounce and the one ounce were being offered. The 1.7 ounce had went up in price by almost 50%. But get this, the 1 ounce unboxed ones were as little as $18.00. So I bought 3 bottles. I opened one of them and sprayed to ensure the scent was not faded or a fake and yes, it was the real deal. Well, I promptly bought 3 more bottles and in the next year (late 2016 and the first half of 2017), I bought 3 more bottles of the one ounce bottles. I think they will last me a while. I gave one away to a dear lady at my last job who loved the scent so much, so I surprised her one day with a one ounce bottle. And get this, those 1.7 ounce bottles that I paid 45 dollars for are being sold for almost 200 dollars on some sites. You can sometimes find a bottle on ebay for a little over hundred. So for you ladies that have a bottle of this David Yurman fragrance, you are lucky. It is becoming a rare and expensive one to buy.

Didn’t realize how much I enjoyed peony, it rounds out rose from being too out there. The black currants are a nice undertone. A steal from online, especially since it went from being $65 to $200+ in a matter of days/weeks (2.7oz); Also Lucked out on a 1oz for $33, was $70ish? Sold out. Really enjoy this one.
My coworker asked me twice what I was wearing.

That’s a very pleasant floral perfume. The peony is very noticeable here.

So complex and blended well. Gives me slight middle eastern vibes, respectfully so. Not from a trendy standspoint; like how like a lot of fragrance makers all of a sudden make oud fragrances; and may do so in a unconventional way.
Not a snob. I (we) love to discover new fragrances of their own.
This is just traditional— with a classical, timeless feel to it. It is stellar. It stands out!
Got a good deal for it. My aunt bought it YEARS ago as a set (with the lotion, and a travel size spray) and is STILL reluctant to wear it. I use to push for her to do so, because, it smells so fucking good.
She even had a sales associate telling her to “own it”, as in, take delight in it; to the sales associate, it was a fine picking. I couldn’t agree with her more. I use to sneak in her room and sniff it. I have had an obsession for it for quite some time.
Florals without smelling like a bouquet. It’s got a masculine undertone. The musk is alive and well— the notes, everything is so complimentary to each other in the fragrance.
This is in a league of its own. Think it was discontinued. Notable, without being raved about. Big mistake to not have tried it if you have not.
This is a fragrance I would have to fill the void of when I run out. Shout out to Tom Ford White Patchouli I miss you baby lol.

Very bright velvet wet rose, with bit of sourness. Turns out into rich feminine floral bouquet, and earthy patchouliness.
Its definitely a statement perfume, you would not remain un noticed with it.
I would call it very traditional style, yet very alluring.

well blended, mature & classy, not rating high on uniqueness factor but then it is safe for work/daytime.
p.s. bought in the hope that the rose was more dominant.

I wasn’t sure I was going to like this one as I’m not a huge rose fan, But Yurman is very classy and nice. The rose doesnt overwhelm the other notes and everything is blended so well. I love the muskiness and the patchouli base kind of gives it an almost masculine edge and keeps it from being too prim and proper. Silage is pretty good, it drifts around you, following you as you move. I have wanted to own at least one nice classy rose and I guess this is the one for me lol

This is unexpectedly lovely. Based on the notes, I was expecting a standard-issue sweet, fruitichouli. It’s not.
This starts as a fresh, green, slightly watery fragrance. The watery note isn’t some horrible synthetic cascalone; it’s provided by the delicate lotus. The citrus and berry notes are not at all candied; they are fresh and crisp. The floral notes are similarly unsweet and delicate. Even the peony, which can be smothering, is well-done. The peony is present, but not overwhelming.
The bottle is gorgeous – heavy and high quality. Admittedly, I’m not a fan of the cap, but I’m also not a fan of Yurman’s jewelry which I sometimes find to be unnecessarily heavy and overwrought.
This fragrance is well done and worth owning.

I liked it’s smell but not love.I can smell black current, musk and a little rose and patchouli.I think it is a less sweet and musky sister of armani si.this is very charming feminine perfume, very classy and sophisticated.a perfume that most people recognize on you and like it.but it’s longevity isn’t good as it is for most of you.it doesn’t stay even as my usual four, five hours and sillage never goes more than moderate.so I will buy it only if I find it cheap.I prefer armani si,however very sweet,at least it’s strong
    6/10

Harry Fremont c/o David & Sybil Yurman has created a Golden Goddess of a fragrance!
Glamorous and heavenly, yet somehow grounded and down to earth.
Park Avenue sophisticated snob, yet humble.
    Simple, yet infinitely complex.
Intrinsically beautiful, each fragrance component belonging to, or lying within its given counterparts.
The bottle looks and feels like a gold ingot, heavy and beautiful, worthy of being stockpiled like the gold bars at Fort Knox.
I will be investing in more of this pure, perfect GOLD!
It’s said the streets of Heaven are paved in gold…
This Golden fragrance and bottle are so absolutely stunning, I imagine that the streets of heaven could be paved with David Yurman.
    Sillage was average, longevity good.

Green and watery – very much in the modern style. Kind of bland and uninteresting. Pretty enough, with the aquatic/fruity top and spicy bottom, but there’s a rather unpleasant synthetic note that sours what would be an otherwise generic but competent fragrance. This is supposed to be a dupe of Bond No. 9’s New York Oud; if that’s really the case then I have no interest in trying that, either.

I mainly smell an accord of chamomile, a warm, sweet, and lightly spicy floral. I’m impressed that a perfumer has gone this route, whether they meant to or not. The gold of the bottle ties in well with the golden feel of the fragrance (and, of course, my mental image of the golden hue of hot chamomile tea is influencing that quite a lot). Feminine and sweet but not cloying, I think this would be great for office wear.

  20. :

The one word I would use to describe this perfume is gorgeous!
I’d read reviews and had seen it had been compared to Armani’s City Glam, that was a perfume I loved and I was very disappointed it had been discontinued. Indeed on further investigation they do share very similar notes however David Yurman is the slighty more mature, more expensive, sophisticated relation.
On first spray of the tester I thought it was rather nice, nothing exceptional but nice. It was after a few days of testing I started to fall in love with it and I then purchased a full bottle. This perfume almost makes it into my top five favourite fragrances as it shares one of my favourites notes – patchouli.
This is one perfume I expected to be a sillage monster, but for me sadly it is all over too soon. The first time I wore it a friend couldn’t smell it. Such a shame, it was almost perfect.

I adore this fragrance. So very clean and fresh, alluring, stunning and SOPHISTICATED are words I’d use to describe. I receive so many compliments. D.Y. is on my list of top favorites along with: Armani Code, Elie Saab, Dahlia Divin, Tory Burch, Narciso Rodriguez for Her, Roberto Cavalli, Cartier De Lune, Angel, Stella McCartney, Bvlgari Aqva Divina and etc. However, I’ve never considered this for late spring or summer. Never tried it during those seasons, perhaps because I savor it for specific times of the year.

Ok, finally giving it a try, being alone at home before daring to wear it on a normal day at work. I am waiting to see how does it perform, after reading the reviews below, I still think is a kinda loud at the opening and I need to see when it become unisex, since right now after 20 mins. the aroma is totally towards the feminine side, well I’ll update this later…

I loved this at first sniff. I’m not an expert, but a curious enjoyer! I love when nothing can be outwardly detected, makes me wanting to keep smelling and analyzing what notes are there. Like all the other replies, it blends so well it is linear, but very complex. Not too floral, not too spicy, not too soapy and very strong but not offensive….smooth and dark as black rosy silk. I don’t know if I will ever find a fragrance that suits me like this one does….

    Such a beautiful little gem!
For me this one was tricky. The first few times that I tried it, found it too sweet, specially at the beginning with the dominant black currant note, and I thought to myself: “Yet another boring unpleasant heavy sweet perfume!” (I hate most of them!)
But I have to admit, I was wrong and these past few days it has grown on me a lot. This one is no ordinary mediocre sweet gourmand. Although it’s still a bit too sweet at the beginning, but after a little while, it softens into a delicate gentle smell, and the musk takes over (heavenly musk! mixed with some other floral notes as well). It has such delicate warmth and such depth and beauty about it, embraces you in kindest and sweetest way possible, and make all the troubles go away. I believe if Demeter, the greek goddess of nourishment and motherhood had a perfume, it would be this one. It’s like what they say, sitting beside a chimney in a dark freezing winter night, drinking tea, while reading a good book. That’s how wonderful it makes me feel.
Also it is rather high quality, with impressive longevity and sillage, way better than many (sadly, reformulated) perfumes out there.

Sweet wet florals+soft black currant+patchouli+musk make this classy;deep;dark golden rich smelling scent
It seems linear but now after a week I can find many layers here…after it’s sprayed it smells just like a sweet champagne.after two minutes or so smoky and wet black rose wrapped in patchouli is prominant on my skin but as time passes it dries down to a floral musk which I die for it(as I love musk)
The scent is clean but not soapy;sweet and warm but not too much;sophisticated and mature but not old
You can wear this queen in all seasons but I don’t sujest wearing it in hot&humid climate
For me David yurman fragrance is just LOVE…indeed it is my golden wine..the scent is as golden as the bottle..it’s glowing and sparkly..it’s addictive.stays on skin for hours and hours.sillage not enormous for me but for sure is heavy
Right now this beauty is one of my top ten

David Yurman smells absolutely glamourous! I LOVE it.
The build of David Yurman is interesting – it doesn’t really change from opening to drydown, just softens on the skin as time passes. When I inhale I “see” the notes as if they’re made of one big gold and black shimmering block. It’s a multi-faceted composition, with dancing and weaving notes, but those notes reside within definite parameters – like a beautiful gemstone!
Rose is featured here and it’s a “wet” one – heavily fragrant and covered in sparkling dewdrops. Clean sweetness from tender peony and watery lotus further emphasize the wet rose, and mandarin adds an even sweeter juiciness to the florals. The LAST thing David Yurman is is a soggy, sweet floral, though! Patchouli, woods and musk make for the best support – earthy and deep, yet somehow remaining radiant. Black currant seems to add effervescence. This is a “champagne and jewelry” fragrance.
I will be wearing this on New Year’s Eve because it stands up and shines in cold weather. Paired with a gold dress, perpetually clinking champagne glasses, confetti, and a New Year’s Kiss, how could I go wrong?! 🙂

Definitely a winter rose. Warm, just musky enough, stays very subtle on my skin and yet enough sillage and longevity to remind you she’s there throughout the day. Will definitely be making a FS purchase of this in the future.

This fragrance is unique. It can be unisex. To me it smells very expensive and it’s before I looked on the Internet and learned about it’s value. The box looks like a man’s cologne would look like. It’s not a green, pink, red, white, yellow or purple scent. It’s BLACK – like a BLACK DIAMOND. I would call it oriental floral. And to my nose it belongs to the group of fragrances COCO CHANEL does. I believe those who love COCO CHANEL will love David Yurman Fragrance David Yurman for women. I would not recommend it for hot, humid weathers. Only strong, independent, powerful women should wear this fragrance.

  32. :

    5 out of 5

At first I got the fruity element and a lily of the valley type note became obvious, along with a smoky wood type note that I’ve experienced before in much higher concentration (to the point that it was irritating). The rose is powdery and sort of stays off by itself, in the background. It’s an odd composition, but not unpleasant, and at least borderline unisex (I’d rather this than Insense, that’s for sure!). I’ll update later (it’s been on for about 20-25 minutes at this point).
Over time the somewhat “watery” lily of the valley type note dissipates but the oud/wood/smoke element continues, though it’s not super-strong. The other florals play more of a supporting role, and I definitely think it’s unisex at this point, perhaps even a on the “masculine” side of things. If you want a smooth “oud scent” with a bit of “freshness” added that is most prominent for the first couple hours, then this is one to sample, so long as you don’t mind the florals.

This is my second review, after some thought and a little living with this little sweetie, I have come to the conclusion that this is an extraordinary concoction, creation shall I say… at first meet, I wasn’t too sure but I know for sure that this is a fragrance that I truly love! The longevity is superb although there is absolutely nothing offensive or obtuse/overwhelming about this fragrance. I use this fragrance when I want to feel shower fresh for a hard day that I know I must tackle but I really believe you can use this for an interview or an evening to the symphony or any other such fancy occasion. It is a staple in my fragrance wardrobe that I hope to never be without. I absolutely adore this sweetie and would highly suggest it to anyone who likes a clean, rosy classical style scent with quality 🙂
Thank you smellysmellers for the note and advice 🙂

This fragrance is SOOOO beautiful, I have to write about it! It’s lusciously generous with the rose – but I get a sweetly smooth (black currant) and sultry combo with the patchouli and musk. It seems fairly linear, but it’s like PERFECTION to me. It’s a wonderful bedtime scent, so warm and comforting, very therapeutic! The silage is crazy good and you don’t need more than a single spray for it to stick around for a few good hours. Highly recommend – I found it at a crazy good price, $29 for the 3.4oz bottle, on eBay.

A lingering rich, initially heavy fragrance.
It settles into a long lasting aromatic scent that is not for the faint hearted.
This is definitely a definitive perfume for those that like bold scents such as Youth Dew, Opium or Joop.
I’m just not sure yet about this one, but I dont think I would get it again.

  39. :

    5 out of 5

Defintely a winter/autumn scent. Cedar is definitely the most lingering note. Soft and earthy, woodsy.
The black currant smells like grape pop/soda and a powdery floral as the first blast begins to settle into the skin.
I like this very much. Not an everyday fragrance, more like a special occasion.

This perfume is an interesting experience. At first hit I thought they had put an animal in it. I could detect something sharp like civet but I realized it was the Peony that comes thru as a sharp sweetness on me.
Then I knew it was going to get interesting because I love a perfume that plays with my head. And I was right. This perfume is complex and multi layered. This is very sexy to me. I do not like to be bored.
The rose in this is delicate and well balanced, like an expensive black rose that you special order for someone incredible, dark and mysterious.
I get the lotus. It comes thru as green in this in layers.
The dry down is where I get the warmth of the musk but very subtle and still holding a slight citrus sweetness.
I can see me wearing this in the spring and summer in the late evening and night. Like I said, a complex, multilayered sexy scent that stays a little closer to my skin and that’s the way I like it at night..
Do not underestimate this one. It’s quite lovely and intense.

    I really like the smell.
So, I bought a full bottle.
To my surprise, although many of you described it as strong, I can barley smell it after 5 minutes 🙁
I thought it’s just me. I came close to my sister and she couldn’t smell it either.
Some of you compared it to my beloved NR. I wish it had the same power.
I like my perfume to have noticeable sillage.
    I am sad:(

Thank you my lovely swap partner for letting me try this.
I give the perfume a +10 in regards to the lovely bottle, the high quality fragrance, lasting power and the lovely sprayer it has which puts out a gorgeous soft mist… yep that is important to a girl.
Now I must say if you are like me and are not a fan of rose I think this one might not work well for you. For me anyhow I get very strong rose all the way through from start to finish. I tried hard talking myself into liking it since the reviews were so good but I just can’t seem to make it work. It’s a personal rose thing for me and I am sure on someone else I would love it. For example I sprayed it on my an hour or so ago and it’s going strong but the rose… oh that rose…. just not me I guess.
Just an FYI at least my bottle has no resemblance to NR. With Rodriguez I get musky floral but with DY I get much rose.
UPDATE: So I had this shoved in the corner of my closet and decided to get it back out. I gave it another chance and I do think I might like it. I think I may have over sprayed and for this one the key is just a spritz. To my surprise I tested it at night and smelled it strong on my arm in my sleep through the next morning. Powerful juice – pleasant lady like fragrance.

This is a fantastic all around fragrance. I’m pleased to see other reviewers also feel it’s appropriate for all seasons, (day or evening). David Y. is quite sexy and sophisticated but not too mature. It’s also worth noting that while the fragrance notes are similar to the more popular ones, it’s not sweet, too floral or powdery. The latter also makes it a wonderful everyday perfume. Also, the scent is fresh and clean but not at all soapy. I really suggest you give this one try. Wear it the office!

I was afraid it would be too strong and give me a headache but I really like it. Good long lasting fragrance. I layer the perfume with the lotion. Good stuff! I also think it smells very similar to Givenchy Eaudemoiselle.

@Alley-D It is a totally different scent in cool/cold weather. I put it on in the heat and could barely get any scent from it. I got back in my car and cranked up the AC. Within 2 minutes I could smell it growing. I feel it does love the cool/cold weather 🙂 Don’t give up on it!

I bought this one based on what others have said – i.e stopped in the street to ask the scent, feelings of maturity, magic and wonderful places etc
I have to say I find it a tad underwhelming. I wish it wasn’t the start of Summer in Australia as I’d like to give it a whirl in the cooler months. Oh well will have to wait 7 months. Or the more reasons to keep adding to my current addiction……..Thank God my husband doesn’t read this and know where I keep my hidden stash!!!

Very sophisticated perfume. I got mine today from express purchase on Ebay. Payed US 53 the lot and I must say, the first ever curiosity pays off during visit to DY store in Las Vegas and this wasn’t in stock. Returned home and thinking its almost our anniversary so I quickly order it. This is something we don’t have in store here and never will!
Generously score 9/10 for this without doubt

I can tell a huge difference in how temperature affects this fragrance. In the high heat and humidity, I could barely smell it. Once I returned to my car and cranked the A/C, there is was again…….as wonderful as ever. This will definitely be placed in my winter section.

Thank you to the wonderful Diamonds for sending me this sample (amongst many others). I have been DYING to try this but just never got around to doing so.
The first spritz just left me perplexed as to what I could smell. Why am I thinking Kate Walsh Boyfriend? It was powerful and addictive and perhaps slightly masculine and my heart started racing as I just knew that I was going to love this perfume.
I am not the greatest at identifying notes but I can only say that this is a wonderful syrupy, heady, floral mix, a smattering of rose and a sweetening of patchouli, which dries down to a floral musky woodyness.
If you like chypre florals then you will love this perfume! I think it is utterly exquisite, expensive in the way it smells, high end sophistication. It has massive projection and impressive longevity. To me, this is FB worthy.

It has been really cold thing spring (for the South) and I decided to wear Chanel Coco, but I picked up this off the shelf quickly, thinking I don’t wear it often enough.
I got in the car and drove off, stopping by McDonald’s drive-thru to get an egg-white mcmuffin. I was paying for this and the guy at the window said, “Oh my God, what IS that!” I didn’t know what he was referring to. I thought may be I had an enormous spider in my hair. He gave me a blank piece of receipt paper for me to write down the name of the perfume so he could get it for his girlfriend.
On the one hand, I was very flattered. On the other hand this perfume must have an enormous sillage for this man to be able to detect it on me.

This is definitely a strong, thick, rich smelling floral! On me it’s mostly peony, white musk, & lotus; touches of rose, berry/mandarin keep it from being too heavy as a strictly floral.
This does feel very sophisticated! I can see wearing this the next time I get dressed up to go out to the Jazz club nearby.
ETA: About 3 hours in there is something absolutely delicious about the wafts of this that rise to my nose; creamy and juicy and floral all at once. If the notes appeal to you I think it’s a must try due to this simplistic but beautiful blend. Very happy blind swap! <3
A word of caution however: this Yurman is intense. Really resist the urge to put it close to your nose or you’ll become anosmic and those lovely wafts I mentioned will be lost on you. Enjoy it from arm’s length and the magic is much more apparent.

It’s a very sour, bitter perfume. Old-fashioned, I must say.

This is indeed a beautiful scent. Some may find this expensive, but really this fragrance is right up there with some of the much more expensive fragrances. You can wear this proudly. I am constantly complimented on this perfume. And it’s mainly men who compliment me. Words Like, “You smell so good.” “What are you wearing, it smells wonderful.” And the best one I like is “You smell rich.” I think that there are so many fruity, sweet fragrances out there that men have become overwhelmed. And even when it comes to winter fragrances, fragrances can get quite heavy in
