Rum? Sure, well, okay. Why not? Primarily a leather and liqueur scent. Creamy and masculine – fun. I’d wear this with ease. Not sure if its worth the cost, but it is really lovely. Sour plums, not grape juice like Poison.

The top notes of the scent are acrid to me. Unfortunately, I don’t smell plums. I smell a bitter lime mixed with old ashtray. Once the scent is on for 20-30 minutes I start to smell the rum and leather, but that hint of ashtray is just not working for me. It’s definitely a unique smell.

I smelled dark rum not in the edp form but in the hand and body wash at a resort, and was pretty blown away. I kept washing my hands with it! As Parfumparfan mentioned, there is nothing like it in the market and the smell is truly one of a kind. Frankly, I can no longer remember the scent but I just recall being in total love with it. I had wanted to buy the bodywash and body lotion set for a vegan friend as a housewarming gift, but after learning that there are leather notes, I guess I shouldn’t, at least until I learn more about how leather notes are derived.

Dark Rum by Malin + Goetz is all about the booze. This fragrance reminds me of my carefree, teenage years; a blur of cocktails, sequined mini skirts, killer pumps and the cheeky social cigarette. Malibu Rum mixed with grenadine and cheap orange juice was oddly enough my drink of choice before hitting the town with my girlfriends in my late teens. Dark Rum smells very much like Malibu and juice, and thankfully it’s a scent I can still stomach.
I would only ever wear this fragrance on a night out, as I may receive some odd glances if I dared to wear this to the office. Dark Rum is quite a heavy hitter on my skin, a “party hard, regret it later” type of scent.
The milk accord towards the heart lends an interesting creaminess and in turn, makes this fragrance a little less boozy. In addition, the patchouli creates a rich, musky base, blending perfectly with the white rum, plum and bergamot accords.
Dark Rum has its fans, but it also comes with a vast majority that can’t stand the smell of it. For this reason, I would highly recommend testing this fragrance first before committing to a hasty blind purchase. If undecided you could always start by using the matching Dark Rum candle to scent your home, and if you can tolerate the scent all around you, you can definitely tolerate it on the skin.
Dark Rum for me personally is a bit of a wild stallion; it’s not at all tame. I feel like I need to wear it a few times to truly understand and appreciate it. Time will only tell.

Man, this is a sweet(fruity), milky, leathery scent.
But I can’t pick up the citrus notes…
Anyway, I don’t love it and I don’t hate it.
It’s very different, happily, I didn’t just buy it outright…
I have to sit back…drink some tea or go for a walk.
And try this for another week… Just keep deliberating about it…I see people wearing this more around Springtime. It’s not too hot or cold… You can wear this anytime and anywhere, but springtime is the best time for this scent.
I used six sprays…both wrist, back & front of my neck, my chest and on my shirt.
Would I buy this again?…Maybe(If I cause a deal, then sure).
Does this fragrance enter BEAST MODE, good, just okay or weak sauce at best? Good.
What’s the strength of this? EDT.
Am I willing to trade this fragrance? Yes.
Should You Skipped It, Sample It First or Blind Buy It?
    Sample It First.
Can you use it as a unisex scent? No.
Is it the old, new formulation? New.
What’s its availability; in production, limited edition or discontinued? In production.

There is absolutely nothing like this on the market. I’ve smelled A LOT of designer perfumes, niche perfumes and even niche fragrance from all over the world, and I’ve never smelled something like this. The plum note is rarely one that you see, and this one is done so well. Imagine biting into a ripe, cool dark plum–that scent in your nose as you do that is exactly what this top note is. It’s juicy, fresh tart and sweet–just like a really good fruit.
Interestingly, I can pick out the milk note first when it starts drying down. It’s delicious and makes you want to keep sniffing your wrist.
Finally, the bulk of this fragrance is the leather–but this is not a masculine leather but fruity (thanks to the plum) so that it kind of smells a bit like fruity tobacco. It’s absolutely stunning and is spot-on unisex.
Overall, my favorite perfume and I’m currently wearing it now (I’m a girl in college). I absolutely hate florals, so this scent is perfect for me. Even if you don’t like it based on the notes, I’d say this one is worth a sniff.

I have to commend this site. The reviews are spot on. Not a fan of Dark Rum. I found them ordering a Cannabis candle only to find it was like “Dark Rum” a fragrance medley and contained no actual cannabis. That being said- the candle was decent. So I ordered a few more things and some fragrance samples. I would not market my “signature scent” as dark rum. The guys are like 13 years old and it shows. This smells cheap. Just really fruity plum. you don’t notice leather, spice or much of anything else. that being said- the packaging I received it in wreaked of the scent which was enticing and they sent me an extra sample of it instead of the other sample I’d ordered. All in all-stay away from this stuff. Heinously over-priced.

I am completely and thoroughly convinced that whatever marketing person came up with the name of this scent scrawled “Dark Plum” onto a piece of paper, and when the power-that-be misread the loop of the P and the bottom of the L as “Dark Rum” and they ran with it.
    This is not rum.
This is, however, a very nice fruit-chouly study of rich, ripe luscious plums with a bit of leather. The rum is an afterthought, a caipirinha on the table beside you, not even in your hand.
That in mind, it is nice. Probably swings more patchouli and leather on the fellas, but is quite sweet on me.

First, this is very manly on my skin. Its nice and I do like the scent however, it reminds me too much of Joop to truly appreciate it being “Dark Rum”. On a guy I think it would be delicious.
Edit: I decided to revisit this scent today and with the colder weather it makes this fragrance magnificent! I’m in love with it. It’s very sweet and smooth and comforting. It does seem to be in same vein as Joop. However, I’m not detecting that strong leather I smelt at first making it seem too manly. I completely am on board with this one now.

A pleasant fragrance but nothing mind blowing. The dry down is definitely the best part. It’s definitely edt strength so quickly turns into a skin scent. If it was edp strength then it might be a fb contender.
The opening is sweet alcohol with plum, suede and milk.
I can’t help seeing a similarity with Rihannas Rogue which is thankfully much cheaper. I will stick with Rogue. There is no sweet booze, its less sweet but it has more suede and smells high end.
    Moderate longevity and sillage poor.

I want to like this scent, however, I can’t help but to think I’m wearing fabric softener when I have it on. I spend the day looking for the dryer sheet stuck in my clothes.

Plummy, rich, and luxurious without being pretentious. Calm, cool, enjoyment, and not too masculine.

I had purchased a bottle of Dark Rum a few years ago when I had tested it on a trip to San Francisco. At the counter, it was delicious and lightly boozy, both on the light spritz on my wrist and on paper.
After bringing it home, I wore it a few times and stopped reaching for it because it somehow didn’t have the same appeal as when I had bought it. I reduced it down to a compulsive vacation expense, or even due to the weather being different between San Francisco and home. After sitting on my shelf for a couple of years unworn, I decided to revisit it today.
KentB27’s review totally nails what this fragrance is on my skin and helped define why I stopped wearing it. Plum notes are definitely amplified as the fragrance blooms, transforming into a sweet, jammy, lipstick accord.
The amber and milk is really beautiful in Dark Rum, and the patchouli gives this some woody allure.
I can’t get past the rich jammy lipstick even though I have tried to imagine sweet, leathery plum skins instead. My mind won’t give in to suggestion and my skin surrenders completely to the dark, syrupy fruit, which is incredibly tenacious as an EDT.
I wish I could enjoy this as much as the other reviewers below. It’s delicious, just not for me and will be passing my bottle on.

I decided to try this one through my Scentbird subscription because firstly, they kept advertising this fragrance on their site, and secondly, I was really intrigued by the notes of this and I enjoy rum so why not?
The first thing I noticed about this fragrance is that is absolutely dominated by the plum note. It is by far the strongest note in this fragrance to me and it stays that way until the very end of the drydown. I do get a bit of the milky vibe which is pretty nice. The leather is backbone of this fragrance for sure. If I’m being entirely honest I really don’t smell much rum in this fragrance after the first few minutes. It’s there but it’s pretty quiet and definitely in the background. For me it’s the plum, milk, and leather that are the stars of the show here.
They should have called this fragrance Dark Plum. With that being said, I think it’s a nice fragrance but it is not something I see myself wearing a lot. It’s a unisex scent but in my opinion it’s much more on the feminine side of things. I’d much rather smell this on a woman than a man. And that’s the biggest problem for me personally with this fragrance. This is not what I want to smell like as a 26 year old male.
Overall I think it’s a good fragrance that would be appropriate in all seasons and occasions with average projection and longevity. I will not be purchasing a full bottle of it however because it’s just not something I would reach for often enough and it doesn’t suit my personality. At $150 for a 3.4 oz bottle it’s also quite pricey in my opinion. I would not recommend blind buying this. Sample it first.

I LOVE this fragrance! I find it quite addictive. It lasts a very long time on fabric and I enjoy smelling it on my shirt, scarf or coat. It seems to fade more rapidly on my skin, so I just spray it after I am dressed. I am not sure that I really smell the notes that I am supposed to but this reminds me a bit of Dr Pepper only lighter. It is currently my favorite. I wish it was cheaper.

This is a really great perfume that got my attention since the first second I set my nose on. Lots of rum and milk here, makes me imagine that I am at the The Korova Milk Bar of the Clockwork Orange dystopia, drinking some Moloko Plus cocktail – this is the smell of it in my mind. Quite pricey for no obvious reasons, as there is no niche quality detected here BUT this perfume is really different from anything out there. Worth a try.

I am enjoying this fragrance for all the qualities that many seem to dislike. I quite like the sweet, citrusy top notes. The sweetness edges off after a few minutes, and the fragrance becomes a perfect marriage of leather, rum, and bergamot.
Summertime is the time for this one. I like to wear it with a feminine dress to add some nice juxtaposition as the leather is quite prominent and the scent becomes more masculine in the dry down. I find this one more appealing on hot skin.
For a unisex fragrance, this did not disappoint. It’s definitely versatile.

Awful. On me, no creamy, leather or boozy notes appeared, just a strong, acrid and too sweet cheap male bodyspray scent. YMMV, so seek out a tester to avoid disappointment, especially if this sounds like it may be perfect for you.

Deep, rich, dark, fruity-milky-boozy fragrance that reeks of sensual allure.
Unforgettably enigmatic, and a real “transform/reinvent-oneself for the evening” scent.
Classy, quality construct, and ideal for the urban, metropolitan personality headed out for an exciting night on the town. Divine!
    ★★★★ (out of ★★★★).

I quite like that this fragrance isn’t popular, because I don’t really want anyone else to start wearing it! However, I do think it’s a disservice to Dark Rum that there are only 3 reviews on here, so I’m going to add one. I own the small rollerball of perfume oil which set me back just under AUD $70, and I chose this option because the 100ml EDT is $198 and while I’ve tested that one too, at the moment I’m not totally sure it’s worth this price because the scent is stunning but the longevity and projection are not.
The perfume oil roller ball projects really well and lasts for a long time. I do love to spray my perfumes in my hair and as a mist over me when I wear them, so I do think at some point in the near future I’ll purchase the EDT as well and carry the roller ball in my purse.
Anyway, on to the scent. It’s a bit of a tricky one to describe, because at times it very nearly leans masculine, but it’s also fresh and fruity and delightfully feminine. It’s one of those perfumes you really have to tell someone about in person so you can say “here, smell this”. It makes me feel like I’m on vacation, I’ve spent all day at the beach, and now it’s late afternoon so while the weather has cooled down a bit, it’s still warm and balmy. It’s that time between beach and dinner where I’m back in my hotel room to take a long, refreshing shower and shortly after migrate to a bar somewhere by the beach. The sun is setting, I have a delicious rum cocktail adorned by a miniature umbrella in hand and I’m wondering how I’ll ever be able to say goodbye to this tropical paradise.
Warm, sensuous, boozy, fresh. It just works. It makes me feel both refreshed and relaxed. For a while I barely detect anything rum-like but the essence is there and becomes more prominent when the top notes dissipate. Suitable for all seasons I think, despite my above description. It’s winter here now and I’m loving it!

I very much like this. It’s so unique and warm. I would honestly wear this all-year-round. I really like that it lasts forever, yet is not too overpowering. A great great scent that I will be re-purchasing again and again.

Wearing this again in the Spring….this is nice stuff. Really like the rum/amber combo….bergamot opening is nice. Can’t really detect the leather.

I bought this fragrance recently and enjoyed it, though I made a mental note that I believe it is better suited for spring/summer as opposed to cooler weather. I love the rum note in this fragrance along with the amber at the base with the plum leading off the top with bergamot. I wish the plum was a bit less pronounced, but the rum/leather combo makes this a sexy scent. Longevity is quite good, projection for me was moderate.
This reminds me a bit of my other rum/leather fragrance – Maison Martin Margella’s Replica Jazz Club, but without the tobacoo and a lighter vibe to it in comparison.
