There’s really nothing pleasant to be found in the opening of this perfume. The first review was quite spot on: sheep fleece, oily rags, maybe some death and goat too perhaps. After a while the stench of death and pong of goat begin to subside and a warm, comforting, resinous brute begins to rise out of the swamp. Upon first spray, you become a burly Mongolian man, who, after a very lengthy horseback journey, has neared his destination. For weeks he and the beast beneath him have ridden from landscape to landscape across the plains and steppes, across the tundra and through the brush. They are both built wide and tall, he has few words but many stories. Fires were lit, passing storms sheltered from recently, and a bleak sun has shone, beating down upon the caravan as its horses hooves beat their path through the territories. As the rider’s heartbeats ease in time with their reduced pace nearing home, a calm befalls him and a sense of pride. As he arrives, he becomes someone else. His armoir is off, his guard is down and his hands washed. The horses are fed and let rest. He is modest enough to not want a fanfare arrival. He steals back home, cuddling up to his wife and children asleep, careful enough not to wake them. The warm, familiar presence that they have longed for nourishes them even in their sleep. They all position themselves towards the source of this warm, paternal presence and smile through their dreams enjoying his return. // this fragrance is very much about the journey from how it opens through the reveal and beyond. Don’t overspray. It is easy to be overwhelmed or repulsed by the opening. I think it is important to note that this product is designed for a market that uses fragrance differently to how we do in particular with regards to a product such as this which is designed to be layered with other things. This may be used to impart an oudhy aspect, combined with (for example) swipes of a mukhallat oil on the pulse points, another oil on the beard, another rubbed between the palms and across the body, plus a perfumed spray for your garments which will have been fumigated with bakhoor which all combine to create a comprehensive fragrant profile. This isn’t meant as a perfume by itself so much as for layering. This is everything ‘muscs koublaï khan’ is and more. I’m going to try layering them right now! What a great idea! This stuff is only good for you if you are already familiar with oudh and particularly like a challenging opening, and if you are patient enough to let it transform before you impose it upon anyone. I recommend the dehn al oudh al shams which is more scandalous, less unpleasant, and a bit more fun, though this is a great find for genuine oudh lovers who wish to LAYER with more beautiful scents.

Barnyard, cattle farm or any kind of this thing. I totally agree with the recommendation – no blind buy. I tried some western perfume which said “Oud” and fall in love with it. Then,i started looking for the “original oud” and tried this one. Lucky me, I had a chance to try it before decided to buy. It might be good but not for me or neither my husband.

Let me tell you, this simply is the craziest fragrance I’ve owned. Pure barnyard & fecal opening that dries down to diesel fuel. That is the smell of a pure fermented soaked Oud wood all right!
I have tried Ajmal’s Dahn Al Oudh Al Shams’ barnyardy prowess but this is like the Al Shams on steroid. The fecal note is much much stronger.
I am very used to wearing genuine Oud Oil, but generally the sweet kind as they are what available around me… Mostly Kalimantan / Borneo Oud Oils which are generally smelled Green and Sweet. This perfume is nothing like it.
I think Ajmal did a good job on this one, for lovers of true ‘fermented’ Oud scent.
One word of good advice is never to blind buy this perfume and to try it at least a day to see if you can get use to it.

Barnyard oud, pure and simple. Powerful with enormous depth and intensity.
Whether you’re into oud by itself, or layering with other fragrances, this product will really deliver. It has notes of red wine, rose, pepper, oily rags, earth, sheep fleece and diesel fuel.
This layers really well with rose fragrances, or even with barbershop fragrances to add a woody base. You can really have fun with this!
Note: unless you already know what real oud smells like, exercise caution if considering a blind buy of this frag. It’s not a commercial oud presented for a Western market!
