Cuirs Carner Barcelona for women and men of Carner Barcelona

Share:

Description

“With a strong and independent character, Cuirs Eau de Parfum takes the spiciness of saffron and mingles it with the warmth of noble woods, enticing to explore deeper, longer, further… In its heart, the earthy aroma of nagarmotha and the resinous scent of dry amber merge sensually with the intriguing smell of cuir, unfolding its powerful and alluring mystique. An imperfect yet beguiling balance of tobacco smokiness and the singular scent of raw leather.” – a note from the brand.

Cuirs by Carner Barcelona is a Leather fragrance for women and men. Cuirs was launched in 2011. The nose behind this fragrance is Sonia Constant. Top notes are saffron and caraway; middle notes are sandalwood, patchouli, guaiac wood, virginia cedar and violet; base notes are musk, french labdanum, tonka bean, agarwood (oud), cypriol oil or nagarmotha, amber, leather and amyris.

It does smell similar to Black afgano, but to my nose a softer scent profile. I only get a little leather, it is more like a sweetened woody smell. The projection was quite soft on my skin.

I held a tester bottle of Black Afgano in my left hand and Carner Cuirs in my right. As I understand it these two scents are similar with the Carner being more user friendly. Luckily I am right handed and sprayed liberally. Hello oud wood you devil distinct and all to present. I like my western ouds tempered by floral notes. Shout out to you Juliette Has a Gun. This is not that. Saffron and caraway drive back anything sweet and create a perfect runway for oud to soar. So it’s just me and my oud on the drive home. My car widows are rolled up on this rainy day. I’m finding it a tad difficult to breath. Wow, I can taste this. The back of my mouth is going numb.I’m wondering if this perfume is even legal. Carner Cuirs is neither pleasant nor unpleasant at this stage. It’s like the universe man…it just is. As I park my car I’m getting a slight tang akin to a barbershop, probably cypriol. Maybe I am a brave girl to have dowsed myself in men’s aftershave. Now that I am indoors, relaxed and able to breath again I notice Cuirs is getting sweeter by the minute. The warm spicy is kicking in as well with a caramel amber with some cherries dipped in motor oil? This is Serge Lutens Cheguri if she were a he and he forgot to light the incense. There is less cuirs than I expected but the black leather jacket that’s there is worn by a bearded motorcycle mechanic. This one is too macho for me. Test before purchase preferably in a well ventilated location.

My initial impression is that this is soft, smooth, and somewhat masculine. Hard to define.
Smelling closer, there’s something really unpleasant. It might be leather polish? I don’t know what it is, but I can’t stand it, and it gets stronger as time goes on.

At first I thought it smelled like high quality popuri, but after testing I realized what it is.
This is fresh and raw patchouli with white clean leather. This is not what other reviews lead me to think and was a real head spin. Now I am thinking that of a white anaconda as the embodiment of this fragrance.
Anyways, this last 5 hours or so and has fair projection and sillage.
I see this as fitting a certain personality, perhaps a architect.
I find this unisex, but the best daring and aggressive smell for a lady. If you are a dominant type and like things very clean I think it will suit you.

    M7 spiked with weed.
Oud + Cherry Fruit + Weed + Dirt
Lasts long. Silage decent; not too loud – nor weak.
Gorgeous filth with strong weed overtone. Slightly cough inducing modern syrup oud, and distinct sweet grassy/dirt hashish note.
One thing is that I don’t get any leather here. A faint Birch tar note, if any. My reference point here is CdR which is definitely leather – not this Cuir’s. Instead I keep imagining this hidden cache with oud and hash all over the ground.
Never the less, a quality scent. A very good replacement for vintage M7.

Definitely similar to Black Afgano but with creamy sandalwood and patchouli. It’s also much easier to wear than BA. Performance is stellar as well. 10/10!

The better version of Black Afgano and Gucci Intense Oud, it’s more wearable. the composition is well done, I loved it because it’s not Oud in you face or rubbery leather that makes you sick.
The composition is great: Sandalwood, Leather, Oud, Saffron & Tonka Bean. A sweet woody, leathery, lightly spiced oud. It’s a smooth, animalic, creamy. Absolutely beautiful. It makes you feel like a rich man, that’s how I feel.
Performance is excellent, 14hr+ of longevity, with at least 5-6 hours of very solid projection. This works great for me on cold nights out and about.

Cuirs is a great fragrance from Carner Barcelona. Sometimes OUD can be overwhelming but in this fragrance it is blended the right way. Sweet and spicy. It does smell like Black Afgano but sweeter not as strong. It is a perfect fragrance for the Fall/Winter.

  12. :

    5 out of 5

Incredible how much this smells like Black Afgano upon initial spray but that only lasts a good 15 minutes & here’s where the difference kicks in. Cuirs has a more sweeter vibe on the dry down & doesn’t last nearly as long as BA. Hands down a great frag in its own rite & definitely FBW IMO… projection is incredible at around 8 feet & longevity on my skin is an easy 7 hours. GREAT STUFF!

A sweet woody, leathery, lightly spiced oud. It’s a smooth, animalic, creamy, commanding fragrance. Absolutely beautiful.
The opening is a fest of spiced sweetness with a depth of oud lurking very early. The sandalwood is unmistakably there, supporting the supple, subtle leather. Soon, I get the labdanum, the spiciness settles; but the saffron gives it a dry, slightly dusty kick. This works great, considering the oud-leathery aspects make this feel like a thick, resinous liquid. The base never deviates from the animalic aspects of the leather, sandalwood and the star of the show; oud.
Performance is excellent, 14hr+ of longevity, with at least 5-6 hours of very solid projection. This works great for me on cold nights out and about.
The similarity to Black Afgano is very apparent, but this opens and settles far sweeter and feels slightly airier. Interestingly, the spicy aspect very much reminds me of the same style that is used in Amouage’s Jubilation XXV for men.
A creamy, opulent and exotic fragrance–sure to keep you warm in the winter.

Supple leather, light hearted oud and a dash of saffron for some character. The aroma is sexy in a way. The blend is pure perfection. It’s a plethora of hardcore notes turned down and cleaned up in a delicate way.
This is a very lovely blend!
My pocket wouldn’t love it so much. But who can put a price on something they love and cherish.
On me the sillage, longevity and pure quality are astounding!
It’s like this fragrance was made for my skin. It isn’t a scent that permeates the atmosphere. It’s a scent the encapsulated me in an aura of sensual leather.
    Fantastic!

If this smells like Black Afghano, it’s madness to give so much money for fragrance like this (200 dollars for 30 ml). It’s a joke, right? I am not saynig that it’s a bad fragrance, I am just saying that it is overpriced!
The smell is nice by itself! When I sprayed it, I thought: This smells familliar to a fragrance that I owned. After several minutes I realised that this smells like… Kinski by Kinski. I am not saying that they are the same, but they have the same vibe. But be warned: Kinski has very, very strong animalic note that some of you won’t like, just like me.
Cuirs is much more pleasant than Kinski! So definetelly check this fragrance.
But I am not that impressed so I won’t buy a whole bottle at this price.

An old-school leather from someone from a family of Spanish leather tanners and who probably grew up with the scent of finest leather they supply to the likes of Hermes and Jitrois.
Cuirs has warm noble woods in the heart: complex oud, dry cedar and creamy gaiac infused with saffron.
The drydown is a beautiful array of smoky resins and woody materials with a sweeter edge: labdanum, patchouli and tonka.

  18. :

    4 out of 5

    First impression: very generic oud.
This might offend many who find this very pleasing and a good fragrance but I personally feel that this does not in any way deserve the price of 150$. There are many Arabian houses doing oud and selling it at a fraction of this price but this fragrance does not bring anything extraordinary

  19. :

    4 out of 5

Simply put: black afghano refined in that Cuirs doesn’t have that toxic-like pungent fume like the nasomatto stinker. Cuirs is much better and more wearable. Amazing longevity and projection. However this is still not something I would wear myself. For this reason I will not give a notation since I cannot be impartial. Try it you might like it.

This is a unique and compelling fragrance. I don’t really like leather or oud and avoid fragrances that are considered mostly masculine so I don’t know how a sample of this wound up in my possession. And yet, I really like this. To my nose there’s something almost fruity and definitely sweet underpinning this. It’s not obtrusive but it accentuates a different aspect of the wood and leather than most other fragrances with those notes. I wouldn’t call it feminine exactly and I’d probably never wear it in public but I’m enjoying wearing it myself and I’m not sure it would suit a man better.
Maybe it’s something about how it’s reacting to my chemistry but this fragrance has a mellow gentleness to it that I don’t usually associate with any of the main notes. I keep looking at the note pyramid trying to find the floral.
It smells very nice whatever the note pyramid says.
Edit: I wound up buying this. There’s something about the black oud-y leather with an undertone of sweet fruit that I find weirdly addictive. Apparently I’m not the only one. My fifteen year old son, who officially hates all my perfume, came sniffing around when the package arrived and had soon claimed it for himself. I thought it would smell terrible on him, being far too “mature” and masculine. But it kind of blends with how he smells and the overall effect is pretty darn good.

A woody leather that is very wearable and inoffensive without being the least insipid. The oud is clearly present but soft. Neither as pronounced as in Arabian inspired ouds like the creations by Rania J., nor as hidden as in many western ouds e.g. Creed Royal oud.
In the beginning there is a refreshing spiciness that I refer to Caraway and I love the way saffron rounds off the sharp edges and contributes to the softening of the woody notes.

One of the best classy office scents, sweet, smoky leather main note. Nice, very discreet oud, light and soft but noticeable. Good performance (moderate longevity and moderate to weak projection), but it’s not strong enough. You can find much better scents besides this. I highly recommend it for office use, all year round. If you like strong oud and arabic character, stay away from this.

Someone sent me a free sample of Fortis, and I liked it a lot, so sent for a sample of Cuirs to see which I liked better.
Cuirs was smoother, maybe a more atractive luxurious scent, but I like to wear Fortis better, as it has more of a sharp edge, is more masculine, and very versitile, smells like a signiture fragrance, and longevity of Fortis is better than Cuirs. Maybe my sample decants are diluted.
I think Cuirs made me think od Tom Ford Oud Wood. Oud Wood is more creamy smooth and nicer, but Cuirs seems to be going for that same kind of luxurious smooth woody/ oud fragrance.

“Exquisite and unique; a blend of fungal wood and suede leather.”
Cuirs is Sonia Constant’s brainchild for Carner Barcelona, a Spanish niche perfume house founded by Sara Carner in 2009. It is also arguably the most talked-about fragrance in the whole line, perhaps because of its similarity in scent with another cult classic Black Afgano by Nasomatto.
Indeed, like many who have mentioned about Cuirs, it is a beautiful fragrance. “Pretty” however, is definitely not the best word to describe it, because for sure it is not meant to please the masses with the usual overly fruity or aromatic notes. This is exclusively for lovers of genuine agarwood/oud and high-quality leather fragrances.
The three main notes of Cuirs are oud, leather and sandalwood. It opens on my skin with an explosion of agarwood, and it’s not the kind of synthetic overly sweet oud one would get from designer fragrances such as Versace Pour Homme Oud Noir. It’s unmistakably pungent and smoky, the decayed/rotten woody feature of a special fungi-infected wood that is preciously coveted in the perfumery world.
But unlike many other oud-based fragrances, the oud in Cuirs is blended with creamy sandalwood. As a result, while it has a pungent undertone, at the same time it’s smooth and delicate. On top of this is the leather, one of my favourite notes of all time.
Truth be told, like many have mentioned, I couldn’t detect the leather at first and it made me wonder why leather is officially classified as a main note. But when I used it in a cold climate for the first time, the leather flourished and that’s when I learned why I couldn’t detect it. It’s not the type of pungent black/brown leather that I am accustomed to (especially after owning a bottle of Dior Homme Parfum). It’s the light leather type known as suede, and its lack of pungency is likely to be hidden in the shadows of the pungency of the oud instead, which is somewhat the main star of the fragrance.
As for longevity and sillage, it’s a beast. It stays on my skin well over 12 hours even in hot climates, and the sillage, according to my friends, goes as far as one metre away.
Now comes the key question: does Cuirs smell like Black Afgano? Indeed it does, but as expected, there are some subtle differences between the two. Black Afgano, simply put, is Cuirs on meth (it is a pure parfum extrait, after all). In a way, Black Afgano is like the eccentric brother of Cuirs with a conspicuous personality that may rub people the wrong way. There are traces of coffee and hashish in the fragrance too (I highly doubt that there’s weed in it; it certainly doesn’t smell like it). That’s where the differences stand out between the two: Black Afgano is more potent and quirky, while Cuirs is more refined and elegant. Personally, between the two, I’d choose Cuirs any day.
I love Cuirs to bits and I think it’s heavenly if you wear in cold climates where the oud, sandalwood and leather (especially the leather) will stand out. For all oud, leather or generally heavy scent lovers out there, be sure to give this one a try.

smells exactly like black afgano. I owe the last one. I was testing a sample of cuir for a week now. the longevity is way to big. the sample dropped down and smashed on a leather carpet. less than 1 ml is enough to fill my apartment for a whole week!! the sillage is also enormous. it’s smells even outside my appartment s door!

The opening smells of funky armpits but then quickly transitions to a sweet and spicy smoky leather…. very interesting to say the least. I don’t know where this would be appropriate to wear. It reminds me of a feed store that I used to frequent to buy smoked pig ears for my dog. I like it but I don’t think I’d like to wear this in public.

Cuirs opens with a whiff of sweet amber, then shifts and becomes extremely dry, smoky, woody. Or I should say oudy. Where’s the leather? To my nose it’s all about the Oud and I feel I’ve smelt similar scents a dozen times.
This is still a well made fragrance, with good sillage and longevity, just not what I expected from a perfume called Cuirs.

Oud? I don’t smell any, but I do get a lot of cypriol and a sweet, buttery black leather and saffron, with a layer of dry spice. It almost has tobacco-like nuances at times.
Very elegant and seductive on either sex I should think.

Cuirs by Carner Barcelona is fragrance that contains oud that I can actually love! This oud is that deep woody resinous blend I have been searching for. The leather in this fragrance is superb and pairs perfectly with the oud. The guaiac wood gives Cuirs a well-rounded smokiness, the caraway adds some spice, and lastly the saffron and amber bring about this beautiful sweetness. The longevity and sillage are phenomenal, I get compliments throughout the entire day from both men and women. I originally got this as a random sample in a previous fragrance purchase and my extremely picky father who dislikes practically everything in my collection except two other fragrances even said, “That smells really good!” I knew I had to get it! It cost me quite the chunk of change for a full bottle, but it was well worth it! I absolutely love Cuirs!

  42. :

    4 out of 5

The dark notes are perfectly balanced by sweet coziness.
The scent starts off sweet and resinous. But the opening is not offensive at all. For the spices in the top notes are quickly softened by woods in the middle and by ambergris and oud in the base. Oud remains smooth and discreet (but it’s nonetheless omnipresent with its mild sweetness). That why leather is not shadowed and outweighed by all the ingredients.
However, leather unfolds only timidly and remains very soft. It isn’t really the strongest scent note in the perfume composition, but it gives this fragrance its liveliness.
Thanks to the interaction of woods, amber, musk, oud and spices the scent remains mild as a whole, without losing its spiciness and vitality.
The perfume is very long lasting on me. Over time, it becomes only softer.
Perfect for all those who like warm woody oriental scents.

Lovely Composition. I dont know if there is oud inside but I get bitter woods/sandalwood. A little balsamic labdanum…sweet Tonka bean and leather on the other side.
It is a lighter/more soft Version of Black Afgano from Nasomatto. Sillage and longevity are moderate. Nasomatto is stronger in both fields.
This is for men and woman, a classic one which everyone should fall in love with. A so called ” SOFT OUD/BALSAMIC COLOGNE”
If you dont like woody scents you should avoid this one. For example Wonderwood by CtG or Tam Dao by Diptyque are same direction as CUIRS but more musty and darker.

I received two unsolicited comments wearing Cuir. I was told it smells like an old person, a very old person. The second comment was it smells like a dead person. That said Cuir does not work with my skin chemistry. I agree that this smells very similar to Black Afgano. Projection and longevity are over the top. I attempted to scrub the fragrance off but the smell just won’t go away. So glad this was a free sample. Definitely try before you buy.

I think it ought to be a leathery scent. Well, Cuirs is a bitter oudy fragrance that lasts 4-5 hours. I like its bitterness. But not on my skin.
I wish my table smells like this or some other wooden furniture in the house or office.
First 5 minutes was nice on my wrist, yet not worthy. After about 15′ it became a disaster!
Actually Cuirs smells a little like bug repellent on human’s skin.

Soft, sweet, warm and elegant leather. I bought it in September, so this is the only time of the year I could test it, now I think it is best suitable for autumn and winter, but we`ll see.
I would also say it is very wearable, not at all overwhelming, to me it goes well for both – days and evenings/nights. Suits men and women alike I think. Tere`s something intriguing and inviting yet subtle about this fragrance.
And people may not agree with me but when I first wore it I could swear it reminds me of something. After about an hour of uneven flashbacks it occurred to me it was Laura Biagiotti`s Emotion. Probably it`s just me but it does remind Emotion with some wood, leather and a bit of wood tar maybe. Well done lovely scent.

    This is not a full review yet, but hopefully will be in the nearing future. My first impressions of Cuir was very good. It’s a soft leather, but not quite suede. It has a beautiful ruggedness supported by the woods and sweet attraction in part by the Tonka. For a leather based fragrance I find it beautiful and very wearable unlike some of the others out on the market that do leather well…but not for my tastes, ie: Tom of Finland, Knize Ten, Leather Oud. And I must also say that if you like Black Afghano from Nasomatto, give this a sniff, you won’t be disappointed :>}
As for Alfarom’s review… This is not a shot at you personally so don’t take it like that. But how exactly can you call any fragrance a rip off of three or four different fragrances. If a particular fragrance doesn’t smell exactly like ONE other, then thats the exact opposite of a rip off. Sure some fragrance have some similarities, but that’s due to the ingredients used and notes that support the fragrance (“a sum of the above parts”). I don’t think your being fair to this one or D600 to call them a rip off when they smell quite different as a whole. And quite beautiful at that IMO.

Carner seems to be specialized in rip-offs. After the Dioresque D600 here is a musky-leather-oud with sandalwood and saffron that is part Aoud Musk (saffron-musk) part Duro (leather), part Dark Aoud (oud and sandalwood). Smells good but smells exactly like the sum of the above parts.
