Description

Fragrances by David Jourquin are timeless, classical and yet modern, its personal melody does not try to please everyone but to become essential to some. He gave them a personal signature and made them authentic, magnetizing.
”A secret wake like a promise, precious like a confidence, quintessence of pure essences, elegant, sophisticated, powerfully emotional.”

Day version, Cuir Mandarine, is based on patchouli surrounded with contrasting and vibrant mandarin accords, leather and black pepper. Sensuality of the compositions is provided by Virginian blond tobacco, which is as light and bubbly as champagne spreading above lavender and amber. The fragrance is obtainable in 100ml EDP flacons, covered with leather.
Cuir Mandarine was launched in 2011.

Opulent patch with vanilla, intense projection and longevity and sophistication . I see that several perfumes of this DJ brand carry similarities. All are very well done and lasting, wish were more affordable. But If you like CD midnight poison style anything of this brand is very recommended.
This one was for women I thought because of valilla.

The top is all leather and tobacco. In the drydown, there is a soft, powdery amber and patchouli that is close to the skin. Very nice.

From the initial spray I get a blast of mandarin orange, however a few minutes later this somewhat clean yet earthy patchouli takes center stage. I am generally not a fan of patchouli, but this is done so unbelievably well. Oh my goodness it smells good and very masculine and classy. It brings me back to my childhood, picking berries, walking barefoot on dark damp earth. I really enjoy it and would recommend it for a mature, classy man. Do try this one out if you can.

Gorgeous patch, but somehow reminds me of the original A*men.
    Prohibitive price.

All the notes are drowned out by patchouli. Not a bad fragrance but you definitely have to like patchouli. And if you do this is top notch. Great longevity.

There’s not a lot of leather on show here, and if this is supposed to be mandarine, it’s failing in that department too. But, once you get past the disingenuous name, the overall scent doesn’t smell too shabby. It’s clearly aiming for a kind of refined, but generic businessmen approach as it comes off quite serious and grown-up.
I’d describe it as a gourmand marmalade style preserve — vaguely stewed and slightly bitter oranges with cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, and various other spices. When it does venture toward leather, it’s more of the “new car spray” variety, spiraling the perfume into somewhat meh territories. Even though the composition appears complex, it starts to come apart a little too fast to reveal some fairly expected and predictable tricks beneath. This could have been better if it weren’t so hung up on being “refined” and “classy” and maybe showed a bit of adventure. As it stands, it’s a predictable mall-style scent with some extra shine.

Generic like most of their scents. Department store smell at a niche price.

Then it is one of those scents that makes you just sprayed the effect of turning off the light of the world and see the stars in the sky, away from my skin smelling the PERFUME invading the surrounding air you can feel the zest of tangerine and a leather and tobacco at all aggressive, on my skin instead, wood lavender takes over, mingling with leather note tobacco amber, the base note Patchouli is blunt. Here the nose, as in all other perfumes created by him, play with the olfactory harmony, well-structured and well-made, the only thing that stops me in not buy it, are the 240 Euros that I should spend, at this price there are other smells, sentroi and exciting scents, to be understood, all this to my opinion.

a nice combination of mandarin & tobacco with a hint of leather, the top was welcoming and the middle is good as well but the perfume is too overpriced 220$+ for 100 ml is too much, to me it doesn’t worth it.
Edit (4th Sept 2015) the tobacco and the patchouli are playing the main role of this fragrance, it’s like a mandarin nargila. quite dark.
after a while it turns into a dark velvet rug or fur with a tiny bit of dark citrus essence that makes the wearer mysteriously unknown wither if heshe smokes or not as the smell is quite dark and mysteriously done in away that it overcomes the fresh happy citrus mandarin and drags it into the mysterious darkness. this fragrance tells slightly the life story of Lestat de Lioncourt.

I was looking forward to trying this one so much that now I finally have, it feels like somewhat of an anticlimax. It smells fantastic to be fair an awesome tobacco wrapped in fruity mandarin two fairly common(especially male) perfumery elements brought together and done well I’d say. The patchouli is also big player in this fragrance and the leather drydown is okay but not quite what I was expecting. By that I mean it smells a little bit strange not a deep tanning leather or a smooth subtle leather just an odd, slightly disappointing leather. I think it’s confused between whether it’s a leather fragrance or a tobacco one and something doesn’t quite sit right for me. Also, the longevity is good but quite average for such a pricey juice.
Still having said that, I’m being overly critical because of the anticipation I felt before trying. Cuir Mandarine is a luxurious and enjoyable fragrance but I don’t think I’ll be adding it to my collection just yet, I think this requires a second wear and I’ll update if I change my mind.
Update: Wearing this again today and it’s patchouli all the way! Those mandarin notes are quite fleeting and the leather/tobacco feel is apparent but the basis is in earthy patchouli which in this context is actually quite nice. It must be stronger for others than it is for the wearer. Yet again my mum commented on my sillage trail and said “whatever you’re wearing is too strong!” then added “It’s smells alright though.” I’d have to agree with my mums appraisal really Cuir Mandarine is okay.

The Patchouli here is in full effect. Usually, i don’t like my patchouli at the top but this is tolerable. David Jourquin has redeemed itself with Mandarine after making us suffer through the abysmal Tabac. Although I like Mandarine’s ability to last in warm conditions, this is very much a fall scent. The tobacco is subtle without being to forward with the leather protruding making the entire composition suede-like. Any fragrance lasting 6hrs is definitely worth an honorable mention. This is indeed an honorable effort.

Don’t know why, but immediately after I smelled Cuir Mandarine I had the image of a dessert, like a sweet but not too sweet fabulous dessert.
Personality, that’s what this perfume is about. Yes, it has leather and tobacco, but don’t let that fool you. This is a multidimensional fragrance that keeps surprising by the minute. First you get mandarin, then add patchouli, then it becomes leathery and after that the tobacco makes full appearance.
Even with such strong notes as leather and tobacco, this compositions remains calm and refined. At least to me, this is a new classic.

Absolutely gourgeous perfume! I really feel mandarine note and tobacco is like a weightless cloud that gives you a warm and sweet hug. If you smell Cuir Mandarine on a man, you’ll desire to stay closer to him in order to smell this fragrance again and again.
