Description

La Cologne or Cologne as engraved on the flacon, is the first eau de cologne presented in eccentric collection ELDO. The owners want to be decadent with some fragrances of the house, some of the fragrances will aghast you (which is done quite meaningfully and intentionally) while now they want to be polite and give you something nice. With this eau de cologne is not a regular one; it is not created on the basis of traditional eaux de cologne. The fragrance is not basic cologne, but is a perfume that represents the perfection of simplicity, as pointed out by the house!

La Cologne is a sensual introduction in our sensual collection, gentle initiation in our subversive world. This adaptable perfume provides the feeling of joy to the body. As simple pleasure, this is a fragrance for everyone, to use it in each situation and to provide you with refreshment and positivity.

The composition of Cologne bursts of joy conveyed with red oranges, bergamot and green notes which continue with a blend of orange blossom and jasmine combined to created depth and texture of a modern eau de cologne. The composition finishes with sensual musk with a twist on leather shades which contributes to sophistication of the composition and provide special character. The fragrance is available as 100ml EDC.
Cologne was launched in 2014.

Very nice, unremarkable, citrusy woods. I’d happily spray it all around me, but it’s a functional scent and I’m too poor to spend this kind of money on functional scents.

This is a masculine-leaning, woodsy citrus cologne. Smells like neroli and bergamot to me. The musk comes out after the drydown, but it’s a mild, comfortable musk, not an overpowering one. Sillage is pretty much nonexistent. I can never smell any of the ELDO scents unless my nose is to my skin.

This is a softer version of a Classic Cologne L’artisan Mon Numero 9, very Sharp grapefruit with a hit of neroli. Leans a bit towards masculine, so not so unisex after all.
It is very linear with poor sillage – max 2 hours- (similar to other hesperides), nothing extraordinary, but a decent Cologne for summer Days.
I would not call it Bright, rather Sharp and spiky citrus.

This smells like the patio of a nice Mexican food restaurant. White corn tortillas, I think from the leather, and orange blossom & jasmine. Still nice but if you are from California, this will smell like lunch time.

The top blood orange bright/sweet citrus fragrance I’ve come across. 100% linear, but ridiculously delicious and pleasing. Sweet blood orange and neroli. Delicious.

I bought a set of samples and I thought I would probably love this one.
    I was wrong
Well, not 100% wrong… I don’t hate it, but this isn’t one that’s “for me.”
I must have body chemistry similar to a couple of the others who reviewed this and said it smells like household cleaner.
On me, it’s all about orange Mop-N-Glo for most of its “life.” I rather like that in my house, but on my skin? Not so much.
Once it dries down, it’s a very pleasant orange + leather.
It smells attractive to me. Just not ON me.
On a man? Different story. It smells very handsome.
I’m glad this isn’t pigeon-holed into “male” or “female” because I’m all about wearing what works for you. This one just doesn’t work for me… wait… it doesn’t work ON me.

    Trying the sample here.
So as others mentioned, it starts out as clean, beautiful bergamot and tiny bit of orange. Simply blissful in the morning.
What I noticed next was a hint of leather.
Very faint that I could’ve mistaken it as the zesty-ness of the citrus, but there is a hint of leather here.
Very dry, and combined with the citrus, almost smell like some white trees.
I think whether you can catch this note determines how you perceive this fragrance; unique or just any other fragrances.
(I’m not saying people who can catch the scent it better or anything)

People say it’s not that unique; for me it smells original. A bit old fashioned type of cologne of a very high quality; with a modern twist. Bergamot-oranges in the opening, and the white floral/leathery heart that makes it sound sophisticated, edgy. A good fragrance for those who outgrow such smooth colognes as Neroli Portofino, Dior Homme Cologne, Eau d’Hadrien etc.
    Longevity is fine.

Lovely orange blossom and citrus grounded by leather. This is the way I’d like a freshly washed man to smell like. Upon drying down, it smells a little like dryer sheets/laundry musk. Just like it’s copy states, a nice scent, but nothing super unique. I’d like it if they amped the leather.

It smells like a freshly washed cotton t-shirt straight from the dryer.

As I enjoy citruses so much I was very happy that I could get my hands on Etat Libre d’Orange Cologne. The middle notes of jasmine and orange blossom(which are two of my favorite notes)made me a hope that I will sure like this. So wrong I was..On my skin it’s an energizing drink,a citric cocktail of bergamot and sour oranges on a grassy base.I was hoping for a bit of creaminess and smoothness but it turned too astringent and blunt for my taste.I don’t get any musk or leather on the drydown just citrus that fades quite fast.As a fragrance it’s very simple, safe citrus choice without any surprises. The notes do not change over time so it can be quite monotonous. The lasting power was poor and the sillage was non existent.

on first application it’s extremely citrussy and there is something a bit strange here, kind of animalic, i think it may be jasmine, as it definitely can add this element sometimes. primarily it’s citruses and orange blossom though. i don’t seem to get any leather in this. so, a bright, clean citrus with underlying kind of skanky jasmine. alright, but not really my cup of tea.

Love how orange this smells, but with low sillage and longevity, I’m afraid I don’t find it fbw. Happy smelling! 🙂

Absolutely great citrus cologne! It’s subtle, ladylike, nicely aromatic, refreshing, in one word – amazing. I can smell lots of oranges. Moreover, it’s not bitter at all! It’s pleasant all the time.
    Love at first sniff.

Etat Libre d’Orange has a very specific image. They are supposed to be quirky, strange, extreme. And this perfume is neither. Cologne is a very average, soft and citrusy skinscent. I was a tad disappointed by this.
It’s not a bad cologne. It smells nice. Fresh, uncomplicated, like you’ve just taken a shower and smells good from the citrusy shower gel. It smells clean and pleasant.
Citrus obviously dominates the scent. A little sour, a little sweet. There’s some flowers in here, but the perfume doesn’t smell floral. Jasmine and orange blossom just gives the citrus some nuances and that orange blossom brings a clean shower gel/soap kind of feel to the composition.
The scent starts off very bright and fresh, but quickly dries down to a barely there skinscent that smells like a natural clean skin (newly showered and moisturized). The citrus comes off very tart and fresh, but ends up smooth and almost creamy.
Sillage is extremely soft, and longevity is about 5-6 hours on my skin.
The cologne is okay, but nothing special. I need a little more oomph in my perfumes, this is simply too soft and average for my taste.

There really isn’t much I can say about this one. The note pyramid is very true to what I smell. The way it mingles on my skin though, smells just like orange furniture polish.
I understand that a lot of people expect all of their fragrances to smell eccentric. So far, the ones I have smelled, have been alright. Granted, I have never smelled their secretions one!
Sillage is poor, but longevity is good.

Cologne is a nice, simple fragrance that is what it appears to be – a simple citrus scent. It’s nothing fancy and likely has been done a thousand times, but this one’s still nice. There’s nothing really hidden here or exceptional – the notes all seem to be there. Orange remains throughout the fragrance and is partnered with the floral notes. The drydown is a light leather and musk. Simple and to the point.
Sillage and longevity are what you would expect – a few hours at most and it can be worn almost anywhere.
With that said, I looked at some prices on this (received a random sample and wasn’t familiar with this) – and I think this is just way overpriced for what it is. There are so many fragrances like this that are just as good and much cheaper.

I had a chance to sample a bunch of ELDO fragrances. This is one strange house. A lot of their stuff is just way out there. Don’t even get me started on their secretions one UGH!
This Cologne is the only one that really stood out to me. I think it was just because it was so refreshing compared to everything else that was thrown in my face.

Refreshing, aromatic and zesty citrus opening. The citrus is zingy but juicy, even with all the herbs. Can get something that’s almost mint-like in the background. As it dries down it loses it’s juiciness and becomes almost candy-like, those cool, powdery sugar candies, smarties or Necco wafers, then after a bit it becomes all dry, sharp, bitter citrus. This is a pretty masculine fragrance – even the jasmine is masculine; musky and almost dry. Refreshing – perfect for those stinking hot August summer days. Decent longevity for what it is but sillage reduces dramatically after an hour or so. Not the most original ELdO fragrance but it’s beautifully done and very enjoyable.

This is one of my favorite ELDO offerings, very citrusy with the opening of bergamot and blood orange, then u get some nice floral notes the jasmine is nice… Then musk and leather… This smells fantastic. Clean and crisp and citrusy I really dig the citrus… To me it’s defijitley more masculine …you can wear this to work or the club…. Moderate sillage and longevity… Wish it lasted longer but most citrus based scents don’t have great longevity

Opens with a potent, bitter, juicy citrus-neroli-green vegetative combination, so natural and oily, almost like someone took some citrus rinds, orange blossoms and their leaves and stems and crushed them up in their hand and smeared the remnants on my skin. I get more lime than orange, which I like. After about an hour the scent is still similar, but the bitterness has toned down a lot and the florals play a larger role, and they became sweeter and smoother as time went on. It’s been about 6 hours since I applied it and it’s now a sweet creamy musk skin scent (reminds me of Narciso EDP) with a hint of citrus still there. It’s a classic composition but I think the materials used smell raw and natural, a really beautiful cologne for anyone to love and enjoy.

Those of you expecting something eccentric with this one because of ELdO’s reputation are surely missing the mark. Cologne is SUPPOSED to be simple, gentle and relaxed. It’s meant to be lighthearted and create a subtle joy, one that is airy and fleeting. This is no idiosyncratic masterpiece and that is exactly what the house intended. Overall this is a nice, soft bitter orange scent with an undercurrent of musk. It’s not for everyone and skin chemistry will play a huge part in its development as this instantly went sour on my friends skin. It also smells like 5 other fragrances I can put my finger on, right now several from acqua di parma come to mind.
The orange starts off harsh on my skin but settles quite quickly into light white florals with a trailing of musk. In the final stretch it’s a sweet, candied musk with faint hints of orange. It’s quite pleasant and summery, I suspect this would smell amazing during a rainy spring day or a warm summer night. Simple, unpretentious, joyous, and it makes me smile. If only the longevity was there I would buy a full bottle.

This is supposed to be unisex but I found it pretty masculine. Bitter dry lime, using a lot of the rine. The blood orange is also very sour and leaves the overall sensation of a very harsh, sharp citrus scent. Usually I love citrus but not this one.

  24. :

    3 out of 5

My god, this smells like straight out household cleaner. Sour citrus notes with leather is not something that smells good on everyone, it seems. Perhaps my body chemistry did not give it what it deserves, but everyone commented on how cheap and headache-inducing it smells. It’s so sharp for the briefest moment and disappears after an hour.
I understand it is supposed to be a simple, sophisticated, dependable scent, but it is not sophisticated or expensive-smelling in the slightest. Try Hermes instead for citrusy leathery scents.

This fragrance to is interesting and complex. The top notes are strong orange citrus, quickly followed by green floral. I’d describe this fragrance as unisex but slightly sweet, a bit musky, fresh, green and bright. It’s nice but not my type of scent.

I received a sample of this perfume today.
This struck me like a bolt of lightning as almost perfectly identical to Hermes Eau d’Orange Verte. Orange blossom, green, musk, citrus top notes. The dry-down was the same too.
The main difference is that perhaps ELDO’s version is a bit fruitier, though still unisex, and has WAY less sillage and longevity.
Overall a wonderful, clean, sexy smell, but as advertised, a ‘nice’ scent. The Hermes version is a better deal and longer-lasting, however, if you don’t mind a different bottle.

I really enjoy this ELDO offering. I love the citrus freshness without any cloying sweetness to detract. It is a clean scent without being soapy. There is a point where I swear I could smell Lucky Charms after the dry down. I will likely buy a full bottle, as I think I need this lovely frag to add to my collection.

Only recently sniffed it quickly from the vaporisateur nozzle and it reminds me of a 1980ies ice cream that I grew up with in Germany.
Very abstract fresh citric bitter-sour blood oranges and limes.
    Very gourmand.
I love it for the retro appeal alone.
I am sure this will rock in the nigh clubs in the heat of the night, or daytime cruising on Miami’s South Beach.
    A modern gourmand cologne.

Strong déjà smell, this one. Exactly like some cologne Amway sold in the mid eighties. Forgot the name, sadly.

just got this and absolutely love it- ETDO wanted to create a nice classic traditional cologne and thats what it is -reminds me of TF Neroli Portofino but more masculine with a longer lasting silliage. Comparing prices its cheaper than TFNP so good value as well;-))

This is a really nice juicy citrus, sweet and aromatic like freshly squeezed blood oranges. There’s no stupid art fart vulgarity behind it either, just a practial and invigorating summer scent.
    Drydown is quite musky.

Just received a sample of this from Etat and the tagline perfectly fits the fragrance, a nice scent. Nothing horrifying or perverse to be found. It’s not anything extraordinary either. Just nice.
It starts very clearly with sharp notes of blood orange and bergamot that quickly fade into jasmine and orange blossom. The orange blossom and jasmine stick around for quite a while, but theres always a hint of leather hiding in the background. Eventually it fades into a rich leather and musk with only hints of the florals staying around.
Overall its a safe scent. Easy to wear and perfect for the summertime.

I haven’t actually tried this one yet, however from reading the comments, based on the description above, this was meant to be basic, nothing extraordinary , just a great simple fragrance . It was INTENDED.

    Well, i’m confused …
In theory, I would love this perfume. It smells good, a lovely bitter orange with a musky / jasmine background which slowly fades into a leather, strong but strangely feminine, thanks to the orange blossom. Pretty unisex then, could be worn by everyone, everytime.
But voila… This is from Etat Libre d’Orange, the most subversive and original house of the perfumery. They claim, deservedly, to be the house which breaks the code. But not here, definitly not here.
Don’t be fooled, this is a really great perfume with beautiful quality, but not so original. Not enough to be as good as the other ELdO’s ones. Pity.
