Description
Timeless fragrances Classique and Le Male by Jean Paul Gaultier arrive as a limited edition duo in Summer 2013. For the first time both fragrances are dressed in the clothing item that has become the symbol of the Gaultier Fashion World: the striped shirt, which has been source of inspiration for the fashion designer.
He describes his inspiration the following way “With their tattoos the sailors reflect the image of the bad boy, which I like very much, the image of womanizer and outsider who has a girlfriend or a mistress in every port!”
The flacons make a duo also in their contrasting partnered look: she is wearing a blue striped sailor shirt on white background, while his shirt has white stripes on a blue background. They share a symbol of uncompromising passion: a bright red heart tattoo on the chest. The perfumes are packed in silver cans embellished with a love symbol and contrasting stripe pattern.
Women’s fragrance Classique is an Eau de Toilette retaining the original composition: rose and orange blossom supported by spices and vanilla. It is available as 50 ml EDT. The edition for men Le Male also arrives as Eau de Toilette with the familiar composition: lavender, mint and vanilla, available as 75 ml EDT.

This is nothing like the original to me. Initially I was disappointed but I’ve quickly grown to appreciate it. Very pleasant to wear, quite a soft and creamy white floral smell.

I bought this expecting it to be JPG Classique EDT and wasn’t sure if my memory was not serving me well as it didn’t smell as I remembered! I got my hands on a sample of the Classique EDT, and having done a side by side comparison, my conclusion is that they are not the same. I did wonder if mine had ‘gone off’, but having read other reviews here, it seems they are simply different fragrances.
The Classique EDT is much warmer and sweeter. This fragrance smells a little ‘flat’ and lighter to me compared to Classique. It is nice, and they are similar to some extent, but I do prefer the sweetness of Classique EDT. At least I can accept that it is a different fragrance instead of worrying that mine is Classique EDT gone bad! I’d consider this for regular non-special day wear. When I stop thinking it should smell like Classique EDT I can appreciate that it is a perfectly nice scent!

I only smell citrus… Citrus, then citrus, then nothing. I wonder if I have the right juice inside the bottle.

It’s a nice one but nothing special about it. If I dint know it’s Jean Paul, I would never guess that’s the house. It’s a regular powdery scent and not sweet at all. It’s more like a baby powder coming out as a fragrance. Violet is definitely intensive. Other floral notes are quite noticeable but I don’t get any sandalwood, cinnamon or Amber. It’s very a clean and powdery scent. However nothing bad about it. Must get some likes for sure

There is something bazaar going on with this bottle. Per the etching on my bottle (purchased at Ross), the sailor girl bottle is Jean Paul Classique EDT. However, I also own the Jean Paul Classique EDT in the regular bottle. I have sprayed both wrists to compare and they are NOT the same fragrance. The color is also entirely different. The sailor bottle is still available at Nordstrom’s but the description says “Classique X L’eau EDT”. I strongly suspect based on the notes given for Classique X L’eau EDT on Fragrantica, that is what is actually in my bottle. Perhaps the original bottles were mislabeled and that is why they ended up at Ross? This scent is very citrusy and has much more citrus than orange blossom or neroli. I cannot even detect the vanilla. The vanilla is very noticeable in the Classique EDT in my “regular” bottle and the scent is much more orange blossom heavy and light on the citrus.

What a cute bottle! The juice is supposedly the same as the original Classique; however, I get a lot more citrus in the opening. It’s a very 90s scent, one I could imagine myself loving back in high school. It’s still pretty great now, transfers from season to season well and smells differently in different weathers. The deep drydown is warm and sexy and clings wears very close to the skin on me. I love it! It’s sad that the bottle is limited edition; I’ll have to get mine soon before they’re all gone!

I decided to wear this fragrance today because I loved the bottle. The fragrance is awesome when first applied by the longevity isn’t that great unless you spray it on your cloting, I typically do this anyway. I look like a dog trying to catch it’s tail when I want to get a sniff of my fragrance on my shirt. I would love to smell it on my skin after the first 3 hours. All in all a good scent.

I’m confused why some people on here think this is a different fragrance. I have it on right now and it’s the same as the edt. It’s just a dressed up bottle with the same edt.
From the JPG website “The Sailor Girl Collector’s Edition”:
“This limited edition is utterly Gaultier, and showcases the designer’s emblematic sailor’s jersey. For the first time, she, the true sailor girl, wears a striped jersey for a romantic voyage with her brave sailor. Classique Eau de Toilette by Jean Paul Gaultier comes in a collector’s edition bottle: an oriental floral for a carnal and ultra-feminine woman. ”
Beautiful as always though. One of my favourites.

I just purchased this fragrance today and I have to say this is a gorgeous orange blossom perfume! This is a very life like orange blossom fragrance for being mainstream. It has that suntan lotion vibe but is very sparkling and clean.I do not smell any other notes in this other than maybe a touch of rose other than that its straight up orange blossom. This is a perfect spring and summer scent that brings to mind sunny warm beaches or spring breezes. This is not a strong scent but if you paired it with a coconut or a vanilla body butter you would get decent longevity. It is very fresh and juicy. If you love orange blossom you have to buy this.It also is a 100ml bottle not a 50ml.Very high quality and the bottle is adorable.I haven’t cared for the last couple summer versions but this one is so pretty. This is limited edition so get it while you can!

Very similar to Classique X, very fresh, fruity, very nice! I love it! not so much like the Classique EDT, which is a bit more flowery and spicy, this is lovely, airy, beautiful orange blossom as always,it is sweet not in a gourmand candy way, juicy fresh sweet..I hardly get any spices or cinammon really, just zesty freshness, with a hint of floral notes. Not the same as the original.

@Habanita: the description says it contains the same composition as the original eau de toilette… So it’s interesting you found differences.
Can I ask you where you have found this one? I would like to buy it.

I like this version of Classique, which is called “In Love” here in the stores. It’s a warm, pleasant scent that seems to last quite well. The drydown is yummy (cinnamon, vanilla). I like the mix of nice flowers (rose, orchid) with ylang ylang and tasty food ingredients. It’s not a big gourmand scent, but more a nice variation of the original Classique: flowers and sweets. Yummy, pleasant, nice for daytime and summer wear. But I can imagine it for other occasions too. It’s not too sweet or childish and still elegant.
