Description

Olivier introduced the latest perfume in 2011, inspired by the yellow stone Citrine—a symbol of strength, wisdom and peace. Citrine is often called gold topaz, but it has nothing in common with topaz. Citrine actually belongs to the quartz family. Citrine is the stone of Autumn, and it can be yellow, orange, reddish orange and greenish yellow in color.

Citrine is the birthstone for November, and it was named after the yellow lemon whose color it closely resembles. Gems of this color are infrequent in nature. This hard stone with its warm, sunny brightness is traditionally a symbol of hope and strength.

“According to South American shamans, the citrine has the power to consume Man’s limits, to defuse his most profound fears and to dissipate all negative energies through its inner fire and glowing celestial energy, aiming at reaching successfully all earthly goals in our conscience. From inner flame to celestial light…”

Top:
Sicilian citron, wild orange, elemi, ginger, pink pepper

Heart:
carrot seed, mimosa, rosewood, linguum vitae

Base:
musk, myrrh, grey amber, beeswax

The nose behind this fragrance is Olivier Durbano.

Wow … This is Amber, The essence of amber that is used to make beads, the Arabian beads so i don’t know wither if it is named amber but it is called Kahrab, or Kahraman in Arabic (الكهرب والكهرمان).
It is the essence of huge long walls of an ancient mosque that is brown plank and colored by an ancient Islamic decor using colors made of sharp crystal green emeralds and inlaid with amber stones all over.
It does give the effect of a worm Ramadan nights, with the feeling of spirituality and gratitude all over the places besides the starry nights of heavens. Amusing, superbly made and creatively blended.

It opens with a citrus note and slightly green. The ginger and pepper are quite noticeable.
It’s a simple, yet vibrant opening.
The beeswax slowly appears, bringing some raw sweetness (but not as strong and annoying as honey, I detect the mimosa too, thankfully is well hidden and not overpowering as usual.
By the notes I thought this was going to be more feminine, but it stays unisex all the time.
another thing that got my attention is the sillage, it stays very close to skin, yet perceptible at a close distance. The dry down is a quiet warm mix of light musk, amber and beeswax, but neither is too strong, so don’t worry it won’t give you a headache.
Citrine is a nice fragrance, not something to make me run and go buy a full bottle, but still an enjoyable well made perfume.

For me this smells bitter and has a waxy resinous quality to it that stands on a fine wire as to whether or not i think it smells good. not so sure.
But despite the fact that i an unsure about the smell I like it anyway! I wore it on a day that i had many fears to face that i had been shy ing away from
and i did feel a sense of empowerment that i attribute to this effects of this perfume soo its like regardless of the actual smell i will be wearing this full force on days needed

For once, the note list describes the scent very well!
I certainly get hit with a strong block of good-quality beeswax full of honey at the start, but it does overpower other notes or accords I was looking for. Very little lemons, not much sweetness and no amber either. A pink pepper/citrus combo or woods begins to start just after. Another very noticeable missing note is vanilla, I’ve always preferred it to elemi (like vanilla but more ‘cystalline’ less sweet/bold) I always thought it added sweetness and a touch of gourmandy class to any scent.
After the opening, gingery-green notes start to appear, with more woods and hints of floral. It’s certainly one to try, as it’s not your ‘safe’ standard cologne at all. A huge ambery-vanillic base never happens.
Something keeps stinging my nose a bit, as if the pink pepper was in fact ‘peppered spices’. Sweetness also fades, leaving me wanting more richness from the amber, but that’s never there.
The overall effect seems to favour the greens over the amber and pink pepper, slowly pushing me away from this scent after the good start. So, low marks in the end, but that’s just my nose of course.
    2/5. Scent quality is 4/5.

Considering how pretty much all of the other Durbano’s creations range from being uninteresting to simply unpleasant (with the exception of Black Tourmaline) I was ready for another disappoinment but, Citrine smells good.
It opens with spicy-peppery notes joined by a huge amount of fizzy citruses. A remarkable resinous undertone is immediately detectable and opens the door to a consistent rosewood note that, IMO, is the true star of this composition. The myrrh, together with other woods get more prominent while slight flowery patterns add refinements and some complexity. In this phase Citrine is not very distant from an hypothetical mash-up between Keiko Mecheri’s Olibanum and Comme Des Garcons Palisander. Amber remarks its presence with a tad of sweetness, while hints of citruses provide sparkling undertones throughout.
    Good stuff.
