Great Amouage standard quality. It smells like a mixture of Amouge Reflection Man with Amouage Silver. All three of them are great to have at the collection.
Gumpalmracer – :
If you want an example of this whole “niche thing” being a complete joke: here it is. This totally synthetic mess smells like a $19.99 bottle of something from a discount store. Light , vague, spice. Who cares? Insulting.
IceFinger – :
Giving this classic a first wearing as I type, Amouage Ciel for men is a nice, calming, interesting floral frag. I would wear it in every possible scenario, both relaxed and dressed up, it is so versatile to my nose.
I just managed to get a 50 ml bottle for EUR 125 on eBay, but it seems to be getting scarce. I also own Reflection, which has a very-very similar vibe. For an untrained nose, these two are probably interchangeable, and I would guess this is partly the reason Ciel is no longer officially available. When I run out, however much I like it, I will probably just go on using Reflection w/o searching for another bottle of Ciel, probably for double the price.
All in all, a great and welcome ride, but for the price tag and lack of availability, probably a one-off thing for me. If you find a bottle at a good price, go for it. If you don’t, get Reflection instead to get a very similar vibe.
Piommamem – :
6oPar review is spot on. This is different than any other Amouage I’ve tried thus far & nothing short of refreshing. Definitely has that Amouage DNA but wears light compared to others from this house. Sillage is moderate with average longevity… Got to get your nose on this one.
perdeo-LORD – :
At first I found Ciel to be a simple scent of great quality. Then i started unraveling its surprises as i would dig through a ripe pomegranate. Now i believe this is a simple scent of great complexity of astonishing quality.
It takes a genius to tesselate this beautiful mosaic of notes and grooves that is Ciel. It somehow feels dated and plays with common motifs just to create a devastatingly refreshing and sexy fragrance. And yet it never becomes overpowering or fatty, it is exquisitely balanced and … simple.
Beautiful.

I think Ciel is going to stay in the gray market for sometime. I believe it was discontinued for marketing reasons. Most likely because it overshadowed some of their products especially the feminine ones. No body wants to lose female customers as they spend much more on cosmetics than men.
But all that is just my speculations. I may be wrong.
This is not to say that Ciel is feminine. I believe it is uni sex. It is a great scent and I got my own very recently. Because there are a lot of floral and other scents, your nose gets tired and would only detect powdery smell later on. I could smell its original scent only the first couple of days. Later my nose got used to its scent and it ignored it.
It’s a beautiful scent, people must give it a shot. It best suits spring season I believe. It’d probably fit summer too.
I rate it as one of the best offerings from Amouage.
EDIT: P.S. For one thing, it is surely more masculine than Reflection Man. And, I think it smells better than Reflection Man too.
omaman – :
Yes it has been discontinued.

I will treasure my remaining 3/4 full decant (Thanks to the lovely Olya, from MiN NY, circa 2014)! Why, you ask?
Well, I was just browsing the AMOUAGE website and I was, quite frankly aghast that CIEL Man (Pour Homme) is NO LONGER LISTED as available; not even in a Special Edition. And, in the Classic Discovery Set for Men (6 x 7.5 ml EDP) Silver is swapped out (seemingly) for CIEL MAN; while CIEL WOMAN (Pour Femme) remains in the feminine counterpart coffret!
It is as those below me have said…sublime-no matter when how or where you smell it!! It will be interesting to see, if it is truly discontinued, how much it will be fetching in the next few years in the gray market.
Those who DO own this: I urge you keep it safe (cool, dark, etc.) and when you do waft it…revel in its opulence!
gornaik – :
@richmilton I couldn’t disagree more with your statement… $300??!! Man where do you buy your fragrances? I just picked up a vintage formula (non magnetic) for $169 on eBay. It is not unique? I’d love to hear your other options that are as nice, high quality, great performers and smell like this masterpiece. Please do, I’ve never smelled anything near this beauty.
This is one hell of a frag!! One of my favs for hot weather! More than one of its notes may suggest it is not appropriate for that kind of weather but it is!! 2-3 sprays to go to the beach and you’ll be in heaven!
zador5551 – :
Sampled this yesterday, no thanks. I just don’t smell a fragrance anywhere near $300. It’s a fresh and floral scent that’s neither unique enough or nice enough to pay that much. Whatever you do, by all means DO NOT buy blind this unless you are wealthy and/or money is no object.
I have nothing against Amouage but some of their fragrances are way overpriced. Two exceptions however is
Interlude Man and Epic Mam which are both absolute Masterpieces.
ISVA – :
Are you kidding me, 300$ for a “pert plus” smell alike scent?!
i can understand that some rich guys wanted to capture the scent of a freshly washed hair by a classic pert plus shampoo back in the 90’s, but to produce that to perfume lovers??
i think this one should be moved under shower gel items…
lmb982Unlogrere – :
Somewhere in the middle on this one. I seem to be in the minority in that I really enjoyed and was intrigued by the first couple of hours and all the opening notes. Very interesting. I loved the florals, the lavendar. But then…a weird thing happened in this frangrance’s journey on me that made me a little queasy with it.
A few people have mentioned a nasty note that starts to peak through as the hours pass by though it. I went for a summer stroll during my lunch time – it had been probably at least 3 hours since I last sprayed and after a rigorous walk outdoors, the nasty note started to appear. Perhaps it was the incense I was smelling.
Because of the notes mentioned, it’s the only one that I don’t have a positive experience with. So, yeah, I really didn’t care for the drydown at all. But I enjoyed the soapy, fresh summer aroma that was occurring in the beginning quite alot.
But I don’t think I’ll be rushing to finish the sample from this mighty behemoth niche house anytime soon.
fishica – :
I really don’t like florals at all, especially white florals and lavender, but Ciel gets a pass for its drydown.
The floral opening masks elements of the heart and base quite a bit. When the opening recedes somewhat you will smell notes like the peach, sandalwood and incense that perhaps you couldn’t detect straight away.
For me and my tastes, there’s a waiting period before I get to the part of Ciel I enjoy, but it’s not the endurance test that Reflection is, making you trek across a mile long field of white flowers to get to the drydown.
Ciel’s blending is delicate and deliberate which makes it satisfying and fun to wear.
The peach note that eventually reveals itself is detectable long into the drydown. That was nicely done considering how frequently fruit notes disappear or fade shortly after application.
I was pleasantly surprised with the longevity. I can smell Ciel’s lovely peach/sandalwood/incense combination on my skin the following day, which is unusual.
Marimusy – :
My thoughts about this fragrance have completely changed
Found a 1.7 oz at an awesome price. So I blind bought it and figured if I didn’t like it I’d sell it.
Sniffed the sprayer and figured it wasn’t my style. Sprayed it and felt it was too feminine. Then in a little while I kept smelling this beautiful, light, floral, peachy scent with a little woods in there. Then my wife asked ” what are you wearing”? I figured she didn’t like it but she said it smelled amazing.
This is truly a great fragrance. Longevity is stellar as with most Amouages and projection is moderate. This shines like a diamon in the warmer weather!
This and creed VIW will be my 2 stars this summer.
This is masculine but a woman can sure pull this off.
I love it.
Overall rating is 9/10
Rumia – :
Amouage Ciel pour homme is a scent that distinguishes itself through subtleness, class, originality and rewarding depth as opposed to sheer power and extremes displayed by some other and more popular scents by that house. Ciel’s concept is very different though from those and it manages to please, intrigue, satisfy and hold one’s attention like very few others do – but, of course, one has to be willing to pay attention.
Ciel opens with a juxtaposition of clean aromatic lavender and rose on the one hand, and beautifully nutmeg spiced and succulent honeyed peach. Those main players are supported by the freshness of bergamot and a cool and almost aquaeous lily of the valley. A lovely transition emerges upon dry down as the barbershop-fougere slowly finds itself deeper and mature (moss), darker (patchouli) and very sophisticated support by creamy sandalwood and the other elements all blending together harmoniously.
As is (or rather was) the case with distinguished Amouage compositions the back bone of the scent is that wonderfully permeating and life giving frankincense. From the base up it effortlessly provides a magnificent aura, a nobleness, a theme that used to set this house apart from the rest.
Ciel is so versatile and works at home, with jeans and tee, in a suit, for business, or for downtown and culture. Still Ciel isn’t “safe” as such or designed with versatility in mind. I believe it is its benevolent, open and mature character that allows Ciel to fit in naturally whilst remaining strong and loyal to its own purpose. In that sense, it is a very gentlemanly scent for what it portrays although judging purely by the notes Ciel is as unisex as it gets.
Radion01 – :
I am a big fan of Amouage fragrances and own nine (9) bottles. Moreover, I just love a quality aromatic fougere featuring a prominent lavender accord. This fragrance is certainly quality–no doubt!–sadly, that peach note combined with lily-of-the-valley and other floral accords push Ciel Pour Homme way into Ciel Pour Femme territory. It’s a shame because it really is an excellent floral scent that smells of quality…and that ain’t peachy.
Performance is solid in that Ciel lasts 7-8 hours and projects moderately on my skin. Fortunately, I have three daughters and a gal pals who would love wearing this one and, to be honest, I look forward to smelling it on the ladies. In a summary, Amouage Ciel Pour Homme is a really gorgeous scent…just not for me(n).

Distinguished… (…and, Daring…)
Amouage’s Ciel Pour Homme is a masterpiece… A fragrance of confidence and class. While the Pour Homme version is for gentlemen, as noted by my colleagues and peers, this beautiful creation of floral, herbal, and woodsy notes can lean into the feminine realm. I suggest that women with attitude who are daring to take the plunge can easily pull this off… Ciel performance is outstanding, lasting 8+ hours on me with projection at arm’s length – I am totally good with that projection as I wear into the office with no concern – it is a crowd pleaser. If you own any of the Amouage fragrances, you already know the presentation of the product is first class. The magnetic cap and bottle design make Amouage fragrances “show pieces” in my growing collection. The only downside to Amouage (…”life doesn’t have to be perfect to be wonderful” mantra…) is the cost.. These gems are not cheap, but worth every penny…
My final tally of Ciel is 4.2 stars out of 5. All the Amouage fragrances are well made, unique, and worthy of high praise. Ciel is no exception. A great fragrance that will garner many compliments and create an aura of “find joy in the journey” for the wearer.
Enjoy your day and happy fragrance hunting…

Partially agree with Gabri031982. This is definitely as unisex scent as it goes. Now, when it comes to feminine side, yes and no.
It smells very feminine in the opening, and it stays somewhat feminine all the way to drydown when sprayed on paper. I never judge perfume until I test it twice on both skin and paper, once indoors and 2nd time outside. As most high quality unisex perfumes it smells differently on paper, male and female skin. On my skin it stops smell feminine withing 30 min.
Also, I think it is strictly hot weather perfume, suitable only for Spring and Summer.
Although it is “light” scent, you should be careful on dosage. I found 3 spitzes be optimal for me, 1 behind each ear and 1 on the wrist of 1 arm, then spread it with wrist of another. If you spray more than 4 times, it might annoy people who don’t like floral scents.
I could smell entire pyramid here except peach. It hiding from me somewhere, which is a pity, because bit more peach would make it much better for me, since I’m not a big fan of floral scents. Still, I will give:
Scent 6/10 (if you love florals, it probably will be 10 in your books)
Longevity 8/10 (about 10-12 hours of arm length projection, plus about 4-5 more as skin scent)
Silage and projection 7/10
Originality 7/10 (very rare for men’s fragrance, but not so uncommon among ladies perfume)
Versatility 6/10 (suitable for different age groups, day and night, office, indoors and outdoors, but only for Spring-Summer)
Presentation 9/10 (if you buying it as gift it is unmistakingly looks classy and expensive)
Value 6/10 (again, if you like florals, it could jump to 9/10)
Overall solid 7/10 – not a must to have, but you won’t be disappointed either.

Amouage created a summer scent that is unique, without trite citrusy or aquatic notes, and I was surprised at how much I liked it, because it’s such a departure from what I would expect from the house. Light, floral, fresh and woody, this one is very soapy and laundry-detergent like, but in the most inoffensive and non-generic way.
It is blended beautifully. This is a great option when you want to smell clean, airy and fresh but would prefer not to smell like everyone else wearing GIT or ADG. Elegant and refined, this one brings to mind tan and white linen, sun dresses and warm breezes … a great scent for a spring or summer party or even a tropical vacation. Despite a bounty of floral notes, it never smells “old lady like.” 8/10.

Got a sample of this. Smells great, very clean and fruity…peach and lavender. I get mostly those 2 notes and a little nutmeg and sandalwood, then not much else because for whatever reason this lasts all of 5 minutes on my skin. Don’t know what it is, but doesn’t last at all, worst performance out of all the Amouage fragrances I tried recently…heck, worst performance out of my collection, even compared to some super cheapies like Michael Jordan’s Flight, not to say it smells similar in anyway, but just that even that stuff lasts longer at 2 hours. I like the smell, but no way in hell am I paying for a full bottle.

Different interesting blend of notes but this doesn’t work for me reminds me of my child hood friends garage where clothes hung. You can smell some type of detergent with hints of peach and incense and some weird musk. Not for me.

This one is beautiful, fresh, clean, light, soapy perfume. The only downside is that it does not last for very long. It needs to be re-applied few times a day. For its price… not what you would expect. But it is beautiful and unique, in my opinion, because I do not know anything like it. I mean that there are not many similar perfumes out there.
sumerki17 – :
This is a really uplifting and long lasting fragrance. On skin beyond 12 hours, on clothes several days. When spraying this on, you automatically feel the sun rays shining upon you. Ciel makes the joy of sun double. The sandalwood gives it an overall creamy feeling, while the frankincense is always clearly present. Sometimes i feel upon overspray that the synthetics show their face too much, but with controlled spraying the quality ingredients are present all the way along. I prefer Ciel over Silver (leaves a dirty drydown vibe, as in AdP Colonia Assoluta). Also Opus III is a winner among the fresh fragrances from Amouage for men.
namhong – :
Atypical of the heavy, incense-laden house of Amouage, Ciel Man is a light, mainly floral fragrance, but it involves a good blend of seemingly a ton of notes. Lavender is the most dominant, dryer sheet / laundry soap note that is both strong at the opening and in the forefront throughout the fragrance’s duration. Peach seems to be cited as one of the main notes, but I can barely detect it at all. Instead, citrus seems to be the only source of sweetness, and bergamot is the note that rounds this off. I don’t see this is as spicy at all, but I give major credit for Ciel being able to embody several other genres: floral, woody, and fruity. It’s not likely to offend, but not likely to amaze, either.
Ciel is a welcome departure for Amouage and certainly a deliberate warm weather entry, best for daytime use. It is symptomatic of the same value questions as the other Amouage frags, as its longevity and projection, while good for a summer EDP, nonetheless don’t seem to merit the usual $230+ cost to own a bottle. Still, it succeeds as a summer fragrance more than most of their heavier fragrances do as winter fragrances because it is so agreeable and well-blended.

Ciel for man is quite unique. It has been composed with high quality ingredients. However, I wish Amouage would choose the path of likeable/nice perfumery instead of unique/different. Of course, one wants to stand out with a scent, but not with the risk of smelling weird.. Unfortunately, I think thats the case with Ciel. Besides the urinal cake referral, it reminds me of baby diapers.
Unique/different? Sure! Likeable/nice? Not really.
Too bad, could have been something great.

Skil – :
Oh wow, I really hate this composition. The florals clash and the peach note doesn’t work for me at all. It’s too much like some sort of ethnic food leftovers mixed with flowers. The ingredient quality seems quite good, but I’d rather wear a “cheapo” with a reasonably “natural” smell than this one, though I’m not complaining because it saves me quite a bit of cash! Sample this one first, unless you are a huge “masculine floral” fan. Note that if Dullah is correct I might have a sample of the bitter formulation – it certainly has that quality at first.
k0n mon – :
If I had to introduce someone to Amouage this would definitely not be a first choice.
Smells very clean, almost soapy, opens up quite synthetic but fresh and has soft projection, it could be a little stronger for this kind of scent, which is very gentle of nature.
I don’t think Ciel could offend many people, it surely is pretty damn innocent compared to beasts like Interlude, Memoir or Epic.
Not that this is a bad thing, but personally I don’t think the real Amouage soul is present in this one, it’s definitely not their most masculine offering, not feminine either, but it could be unisex.
The scent reminds me of a summer evening walk on the beach, with a gentle breeze, light blue shorts, white shirt, no worries, just the end of a relaxed day.

The first time I smelled baby powder, very musky. But I only applied a light spritz.
This time I was more generous and the scent is completely different.
Now I smell the lavender (even thought it’s one of the scents I try to avoid, in here it has a sublime fragrance). The nutmeg is perceptible too. Then a light, slightly sweet peach sits somewhere in the back next to the bergamot. Then I get the sandalwood and Lily of the valley, but its all smooth, effortless.
The spices take over after 5 minutes or so. the fragrance becomes warm and masculine.
Ciel is quite different to other Amouage fragrances, here you won’t find an explosive opening. This is a refined scent, classic, not looking for attention.

Worthy and interesting perfume from Amouage. We can say that the scent is fresh, but not the usual fresh perfume for teenagers, but seriously and respectable with thick bitter notes that I’m so attracted to Ciel Pour Homme. This is Not simple, even “smart” fresh fragrance for elegant young, dynamic person. This fragrance I have been associated with modulations purple and fulvous-green colors. I clearly feel lavender and vetiver. I think Ciel Pour Homme is probably the most versatile fragrance from Amouage. – I think we can wear this perfume either with a jeans or a classic clothing, and at day time and in evening. Longevity and sillage are very good!

Awful!!! I’m not a knee jerk reaction sort of guy I like to give fragrances a chance to charm me. Also I’m a massive fan of Amouage on the whole and even the ones I don’t like I appreciate the craft and how nuanced and generally complex the fragrances are and what they have to offer.
Ciel however has an accord that I will describe very simply and please folks don’t think I’m a philistine but I can help the imagery my nose conjures up!
The smell of a men’s toilet when you urinate directly onto a BLUE URINAL CAKE (I think that’s what they’re called?) and some of the fragrant lavender scented blocks give off pungent vapour mixed with the smell of your own juice.
So sorry for the powerful imagery but I can’t get past that…was going to say worst Amouage ever but then I remembered Gold man!
It’s a complex one and is better in the dry down there’s something nice behind the awful smell that I’m trying to sniff beyond but I just can’t! Shame.

It never came together for me during it’s short lifespan.

This is lavender all the way through, as I’m not a fan of the note, I can’t comment on the authenticity of this one, but I can say it didn’t speak to me. A rather uncharacteristically subtle offering from Amouage, which seems to enjoy rather boisterous scents. Lightly floral but with a heavy dose of spice (cardamom is a little too heavy I believe). Not offensive, and yet nothing earth shattering either. (75)

By the time I was exposed to Amouage, I believe that Christopher Chong was the creative director for the house. I love Epic Man and Lyric Man. But one has to wonder what was going on with Amouage BEFORE the Christopher Chong-era of the house. Ciel Man gives me the impression that Amouage was already on top of its game. For a man, I’ll go on record for stating that this is the most beautiful presentation of lavender that I’ve ever had the pleasure of smelling. While this isn’t really one of the heavyweights from the house, the longevity and sillage are still powerful. Having enjoyed Jubilation XXV, Gold Man, tested Memoir Man, Honour Man and Interlude Man, Amouage has failed to fail me.

This is my favorite form Amouage followed by Lyric. Its very long lasting as well. I wore this sunday morning around 10am and around 9pm my partner came back home from work and said ‘you smell nice’ she didnt even have to come close to where I was sitting in the leaving room.bearing in mind though the room was very warm as the heating was on, which I think brings out the fragrance more.
So I think its best suited to hot weather.

I revisited Ciel Pour Homme several times as I seemed to be one of the very few to not appreciate its magnificence and I only partially changed my opinion. While I got surely more fond of its sour floral opening and I started to genuinely appreciate its complexity I still believe that Ciel is one of the least distinctive compositions among the Amouage range.
Beautifully crafted, masterfully orchestrated in its transition from the sour/tart opening to the transparent (sort of fresh/warm) woody/incensey drydown but while I stopped preceiving it as affected and ostentately opulent I’m still sort of knocked down by the general synthetic vibe.
Said that Ciel Pour Homme can be surely listed among the most wearable compositions by Amouage (together with Dia, Honour and Reflection) but IMO it’s nowhere close to the outstanding magnificence of Gold, Epic or Jubilation.

I once called out Gucci Envy for its use of a “sour” floral accord. I don’t think I was wrong about Envy, but Ciel for Him has made me reconsider the possibility of a viable sour perfume. While this beauty starts with a particularly acrid orange blossom note on top of a velvety flow of incense and sandlewood, it moves in the most remarkable, smooth fashion to a spectacular pickle accord. Remarkable in fact for its smoothness. Floral incense to pickle without a seam in site? Who made this? (And please make more.)
But there is a logic to the progression. The sandlewood and frankincense can underpin just about anything as they are seemingly infinitely rich and complex. The orange blossom floats like drenched gossamer above them. This particularly-perspiring orange blossom then ties you into some piquant culinary/herb notes (cardamom, celery seed, bitter melon?) without any jarring changes. From there, it’s an easy quick-step to pickle. More like pickled fruit (mango, lime, papaya) than vegetable.
Maybe it’s just me. Maybe this is just your typical white floral, pickled citrus, frankincense perfume—one of thousands.
I find Ciel for Him odd, beautiful and so smart. It has the richness of the best from Amouage, but also the who-woulda-thought? inventiveness of an Etat Libre d’Orange or Comme des Garçons perfume. But not their cheek. This inventive use of accord doesn’t have the feel of irony about it. Amouage just gave enough running space to a perfumer who discovered that sandlewood and pickle actually smell right together.
balkonmaster – :
In Ciel we have a flower opening with a dominance of rose and lavender supported by a light bergamot aroma with a faint note of incense.
After about 10 minutes, the floral composition decays a little bit, leaving room for an almost creamy aroma of sandalwood and peach which stays for the rest of the fragrance’s life. A great fragrance in my opinion.
roma16 – :
What can I say about Ciel after Dullah’s great review below? I echo his sentiments totally – this is one of Amouage’s finest creations to date and is deceptively complex despite its initial impression of being mainstream or ordinary.
There are some scents that just synchronize so perfectly with a particular setting, place, or mood. For me, Ciel lives up to its name and its ad copy – it truly does evoke the freedom and joy of endless blue skies on a picture perfect spring day. Ciel not only reflects the easygoing spirit of such days, but further enhances it in a subtle but palpable manner.
If you’ve ever experienced the kind of synchronicity I mentioned above, where a scent gels so perfectly with one’s mood or environment, you know how it can be one of the most powerful, almost transcendental experiences that scent can evoke. I know I’d go some length to check out any scent that has evoked such a response in others. Ciel evokes that response in me.
I should also add that the vetiver in the base of this is one of the finest vetiver notes I’ve ever encountered. Sublime!

Amouage Ciel Man is a most unique FLORAL/Aquatic/Frankincense scent. I am reviewing the reformulated new CIEL Man EDP, not the overly bitter original formula in the ornate 50ml cut glass presentation.
Ciel Man EDP starts off with a tart Lavender/Bulgarian Rose/Citrus combo…..very tart bergamot oil, the very astrigent Lavender, and the tart/sweet Rose are almost too tart/sour to begin, but this is only temporary, and all 3 notes contribute greatly to the body of the scent, so a first 2 minutes of sour is a small price to pay…
As it dries, the smooth aspects of Rose and Lavender surface, as well as the woody (almost petitgrain like) tanginess of the bergamot, along with more white floral notes (Orange Blossom, Jasmine), a unisex/fresh floral note (Lily of the Valley), and a sneaky Aquatic/ozonic/fruit accord that underpins the whole fragrance…..this I presume being a combination of Peach aldehyde and Lyral, among other things…..
while these floral/aquatic/fruit heartnotes are likely predominantly synthetic, somehow the effect comes off effortless and natural…..perhaps just enough natural isolates are used in the blend to flank and cover any synthetic edge that might dissapoint for such an expensive fragrance.
The next notes to show themselves are where I find the fragrance absolutely brilliant…..the top ends of a range of woody/sweet spices, and very light doses of some very masculine wood notes move in, to balance the floral/aquatic notes, and again, the effect is just so perfect and effortless…..evoking the texture of both a sandy beach beneath your feet, and very fresh, crisp, oceanic air.
