Sort of a fresh green, foresty smell, mostly cool.

THE KINDA GOOD: Very manly, 60yr old Wyoming man comes to mind. Outfitted with a menthol-like spearmint accord brought to you by a fresher than fresh mint note. The astringency is so potent, a person could actually mistake you for taking 100 showers. No doubt, the cedar note is indeed the viceroy as it governs the palace of aromatic accords which is why I think this leans masculine. You’re likely to not have anything in your collection similar to this.
THE BAD: Smells like someone has been snooping around grandpa’s medicine cabinet. The opening actually smells like Bengay. From the start of the gun to the finishing line tape, there’s no amber or apple to be found. You wouldn’t be wrong to classify this frag as a spiritless contribution. By the nature of ingredients, this sits close to the skin..and as a result, you might actually forget it’s on your skin. With competition so fiece in the niche arena, this could easily be overlooked.

Source Adage released two 2016 fragances – aka’ula, and c’i’aan. The former is in Hawaiian language, and c’i’aan is apparently from the Ahtna language of Southern Alaska, meaning New Moon.
Oddly, it’s this non-Hawaiian c’i’aan that’s redolent of a 1996 Geology field study I took in Hawaii. It’s the bright lava glow at the Halema’uma’u crater, and miles of ropy pahoehoe, winding its alien terrain. C’i’aan opens ice-cold with crisp green apple, and dries to smoldering smoke. The ‘layers upon layers of volcanic exhaust’ remind me of the base of Orto Parisi’s Bergamask, En Voyage’s Figa, and Olympic Orchids’ Blackbird. A jolting juxtaposition of fire and ice.
C’i’aan takes great creative risks, and the results are both unique and wearable.
