I was really excited to try this, but I don’t get much chocolate from it at all. I get a soft, lightly spicy fruity vanilla blend, which pretty much disappeared after a couple of hours. However! I’m going to ask my husband to play scent guinea-pig (again – he’s such a love that way! ☺) – there’s something about the spiciness in this that I suspect would rock on the blokes. If, as Dittnergirl said, you’re a fan of Amour de Cacao, Chocolate Greedy, Serendipitous, Mat Chocolat, Al Rehab Choco Musk (all of which I have in my stable, apart from the hopefully-soon-to-be-added Chocolate Greedy) then yes, you’re in for a bit of a disappointment as this is not what I would call a true chocolate scent; the other ones definitely deliver much more bang for the buck (the Al Rehab especially so given its lasting power and crazy good price). This one is nice, but if you’re after a good, solid hit of chocolate, definitely try before you buy.

I bought TM Angel in Fall 2005. It was after a certain hurricane devastated much of the United States SE gulf coast. I was 19 at the time and I was ready for life to be wholly renewed. The association with that time in my life makes me completely unable to handle anything about Angel anymore. I gave the bottle to one of my moms friends. I rarely see her so I don’t have to suffer through the scented memories as often as if I had given it to a friend I see all the time.
Chocolat and Angel are very alike and they are POWERHOUSES but Chocolat is more beautiful than Angel to me because the dry-down is more soft, delicate and powdery. Even so, the stark similarity is too much of a reminder for me.

I love this perfume….. I first bought it about 4 years ago from a rather classy dress shop in Leigh and it cost far more than I would normally pay for a perfume…. but I became literally captivated by its warm slightly exotic fragrance….. and it has been a favourite ever since….
alecsandrudco – :
have not acually tested it yet, smells like a night time or winter fragrance from the sample vial. smells just like Angel but not as sharp.
nikolal990 – :
Smells very similar to Angel The Taste of Fragrance however the edges are smoothed out so it’s not as agressive patchouli. Pure dark chocolate and cocoa on the bed of woods. It’s delicious!
cfghfcghfhcg – :
True, this fragrance is like angel with an overdose chocolates and allot of oranges & biscuits but more of quality than in angel.
pashtet1993 – :
Spice, musk, …patchouli? …I get the rose but not overpowering, also feel the citrus but no chocolate. Subtle vanilla sweetness, but not a gourmand fragrance. Quite enigmatic perfume, very elegant & compelling. I really like this potion!
leech – :
It is an intense one! One of the strongest cacao smelling fragrances I know, the other one was Montale Chocolate Greedy.
Mostly cacao, there’s also some spicy notes.
I think the perfume could be staining, because it left a light yellow mark on the paper strip. I haven’t seen that before in perfumes.
I think it’s a good and natural smelling perfume, not too sweet, more like a bitter chocolate.
I can see why men could wear this too.
Кристинка-25 – :
I have great respect for the brands using quality ingredients and care about making a refined and natural such as Chocolat work.
Logical that the note title that stands out is the cocoa that can be described within the genus gourmand and multi-faceted, but especially emphasizing a fruity tangerine and floral aspect by notes of jasmine that fits well, but always accompanying qualifying behind the cocoa with vanilla note.
Not a sweet gourmand in excess, has the right amount so that it is cloying, giving the impression of black chocolate, plus also features notes of nutmeg giving personality, and vanilla that makes the rest for Chocolat seem completely believable and convincingly edible, this makes you feel inside a pastry shop windows filled with chocolates.
The composition is very good and balanced, duration and the wake are means not lean toward any sex in particular.
It is a good fragrance can be great for nights out and especially careful because it can be dangerously addictive.
Rating: 6.5
erurlertyd – :
Ottimo profumo invernale, riscalda l’aria con una ventata di cioccolato bollente, dolce mai banale! Intenso con una longevità che supera abbondantemente le 12 ore! Bello da respirare, non chiude e lascia una scia di cose buone. 9/10

this is a strangely beautiful perfume that as others have described goes through some amazing changes as you spray and then wear it. I do smell the chocolate at first spray, and it does seem to come on quite strong, but on the skin it becomes something much more complex. I like sweet, cacao, warm spicy and vanilla (all the accords listed for this) but dusty and dry apply here too. I do not agree with the comparisons to Angel(hate it!)probably because it’s the overwhelming patchouli in Angel that I can’t tolerate and this has no hint of patchouli for me. maybe not worth a full bottle but worth a test for being a bit hard to classify. I could see a man or woman wearing this and unlike Angel, this doesn’t smell cheap.
ANDI – :
Semplicissimo e lineare profumo al budino al cioccolato con spolveratina di cioccolato in polvere.
Durata: due minuti cronometrati.
Costosissimo per la sua inutilità.
zabvennyy – :
sadly, this is only a dusty, musty, rose on me. none of the sweet or plum or sandalwood notes i was looking forward to. i had to throw away the sample.
Viktorius – :
Love this one and I do get a lot of rose in the end.
It is Angel without a headache.
jnfhbyf – :
Like the name suggests it’s chocolate really. Bitter cacao throughout with a hint of sandalwood. The critical element in chocolate fragrances tends to be the vanilla. It sets the tone of what kind of chocolate vibe you’re going to get and here the vanilla is minimal on first trial to my nose.
This has a slight orange hint in the opening before becoming a moderately dark dusty coco powder.
With nothing really to lift it this fragrance is okay and worth checking out for chocolate lovers.
Not for me though I’m still trying to get my fix elsewhere but illusive ‘perfect’ chocolate is proving difficult to find.
netupapyas – :
I am a career woman and this is a great discovery for me, on days when you dont want to smell like another flower bouquet. I wear this with sophistication and confidence ! This perfume takes a few minutes to blossom and keeps changing on my skin. the initial blast seems linear… but WAIT !. it changes every 5 minutes. By the time I left the store, my husband asked :”What is that you are wearing ” ? As I sprayed both wrists with different perfumes, I offered one wrist and he said that wasnt that. He chose the other one where I sprayed Chocolat. by that time, the chocolate was gone. But a sensual scent. WHen I told him the name was chocolate, they sniffed again and said it is sensual chocolate on the drydown (about 40 minutes after spraying) and it even smelled better when we arrived home (an hour after spraying). You must get a sample and watch the scent change. Sensual, unusual, and unique. The other wrist was sprayed with Chergui and my husband said it didnt change much by the time we went home. Chocolat can definitely be worn by men and women . Thank you so much Il Profumo. This is a treasure.
salexzp – :
This is just dreadful to my nose. There is no other word for it. There is a nice chocolate note in the opening, a dry, dusty chocolate, which could have held promise, but it moves immediately to an even drier chocolate chypre bitter scent on my skin. Then, a very strong sandalwood note enters and the fragrance dries down to bitter chocolate dripping on cheap sandalwood. Ugh. It smells like a mess made at Home Depot on my skin. I did not get any vanilla at all, the galbanum was bitter and no florals or fruits.
I also do not get the Angel comparisons. Angel is a well made fragrance and I do appreciate its beauty, although it is not a scent that I can wear. To compare this disaster to Angel is to insult a great fragrance.
lunnatik2 – :
I’m getting a heliotrope or almond type note prominently. And vanilla. Hard to make out the other notes after that.
rus5530 – :
Drunk Chocolat))Imho it,s a very alluring for Man))
gibba – :
This to me smells nothing like what the notes says. No vanilla, cacao or citrus. This, on me, smells like what aftershave smelled like back in the days. Yuk!
vittorio – :
This one may disappoint gourmand-lovers. (I should have paid more attention to the TM Angel comparisons, but I just had to try something named “Chocolat” myself.) As others have noted, it’s NOT very chocolate-y. It probably does resemble Angel (which I despise), but minus the heavy earthiness. This one is more airy; the floral/citrus combination, sprinkled with spice, mix with the bitter chocolate to create a complex, messy sweet/sour/bitter floral fragrance that’s less gourmand and probably more “traditional/designer” in style. If you like Amour de Cacao, Chocolate Greedy or Serendipitous (who compared this one to that?!), you probably won’t like Il Profumo’s Chocolat.
kenlod – :
I purchased a sample & am very glad I didn’t blind buy this one.
It’s lovely but absolutely nothing like chocolate. I don’t even sense a hint of cocoa. 🙁
Yes, it is very reminiscent of a TM’s Angel, maybe a teeniest bit creamier & no sharp patchouli hit. If you already have Angel or Chopard’s Wish, you don’t need to buy this.
wkj235JeomiWogkig – :
agreed resemblence to Angel but much more tolerable and less chemical, imho.
also some resemblence to me to PG’s Coze.
Well done all in all.
thanks for the sample Norgirl 🙂 blessings.

This wonderful chocolate scent is perfect for wandering around a city on a cold but sunny winter day. It makes me miss Takashimaya, where I purchased Chocolat many years ago on a Manhattan winter’s day. Chocolat is warm and striking. On me, its oddly similar to Yves Rocher Cocoon, but Cocoon has more Patchouli while Chocolat has more…chocolate!
JimmiPlombir – :
I got my bottle today and I am impressed! I DO get Angel at the start – the bitterness it is very similar on my skin and I do not like Angel !!!!
How to describe the opening – a kind of bitter, dusty, dry, incensey, chocolate! Not sweet at all and very sour to my nose …. I thought oh no as this was a blind buy (being impressed with Silvana Casoli’s creations thus far)! But, the beauty of Il Profvmo’s scents is their chameleon-like quality! Their scents ‘evolve’ – they do not stand still on the nose – and next I started to get a warm amber peeking through – now that’s not in the notes I thought – but neither is incense and I get a brief whiff of that on the opening!!!
But hey, what’s happening now? I’m getting a more mellow chocolate smell – almost like bournville cocoa powder and a touch of vanilla – a sweetness is peeking through to break my bitter heart! There is definitely a patchouliness to this in the background as well – I keep on sniffing trying to identify more notes! Then it reverts to bitter again and then back to warm cosy vanilla scented cocoa!
Woa – stop this ride I want to get off….but I can’t I’m so loving this. I can smell a fruity depth and some gentle spice! Down there I can smell a scant liquorishness with figs and cumin and freshly ground cinnamon!
Il Profvmo positively encourage you to mix their perfumes with the Osmo Absolus – they even give you a chart to get you started!! Well I thought I’ll plonk some of their Ginger sample on top – ohhhhh yet another dimension and on top of that went a dab of cannabis – another dimension!!! This is too addicting – and fun!
This is a very sensual smell and once again from this perfume house – unique!
QUICK EDIT: I think this is how Angel should behave on my skin but doesn’t – it’s so warm and yummy now and deepening into something rich and slightly gourmand!
qaz_104 – :
This is pure cocoa on me with just a tiny bit of vanilla to sweeten the cocoa’s inherent bitterness. There is no spice I detect, no fruity notes and above all, no Angel. I seriously dislike Angel; it’s too loud, too sweet, too everything.
Chocolat is smooth, just a tiny bit sweet, powdery, soft and comforting but with good sillage -no powerhouse like Angel though- and lasting power. This is an elegant gourmand that can be worn without offending anyone. Very comforting and cozy, it would be best suited for colder weather but is not too sweet that it can’t be worn in an airconditioned office during the summer. This is one more case of ‘the more I wear it, the more I like it’ for me, and I’ll soon have to decide if I love it enough to order a full bottle.
yevgeny – :
Tried this one in Harvey Nicks, somewhat sceptical, as anything with the word “chocolat” in it tends to nothing in common with my favourite food group.
Initially, I was not surprised to find, on first application, there was not a whiff of cocoa. In fact, my first impression of this (and many other’s only impressions) is that it was incredibly like “Angel” (Thierry Mugler). After drowning two spills, one in chocolat, and one spill in Il Profvumo Vanille Bourbon, much more to my liking I thought, I trundled off, via the Escentrics display, giving a few low grumbles along the lines of “if someone could just get it right without it turning into a three ring circus, I’d be happy…..” And the two spills lurked in separate pockets, one of Chocolat, the other of Vanille Bourbon for many long fragrant days….The Chocolate took on a life of its own over the timescale of a week, which is outrageous for any perfume, let alone something sprayed onto a paper spill. Every day, it mutated into something more….I was falling in love with this little superstar.
A week later I returned to HN, determined to have a bottle of Chocolat EDP, because, after a week on a paper spill in my pocket, the fragrance had gone through a metamorphosis. There was nothing angelic about Chcolat. It had beautiful white wings for sure, but when they opened, the showered the area with sparkles. This Angel was at once jet propelled yet light en pointe. There is exotic spiciness, in a muted cinnamon kinda way, there is a slight resinous quality which serves only to drag the wearer down into a vat of dual layered chocolate, bitter and dark on the top, through a layer of vanilla dipped cherries into the most delightful milky cocoa confection beneath which still, when slightly agitated, erupts with sparkly top notes, not unlike those fireworks you think have erupted their last, then explode 3 feet above your head and make you wet your pants with fright.
Sadly, HN had no chocolat. (What????) No chocolat? The generic counter assistant attempted to persuade me that both Chocolat frais and Chocolat amere were “chocolat”, and being the sassy cowbag I am, I begged to differ. And realising that Il Profvumo would be less than impressed by this reckless over selling, I left with my second choice, Vanille Bourbon, and ordered my Chocolat from Il Profvumo direct. Today, I have my EDP, beautifully packed, with a generous ballast of samples from their range.
Whatever anyone says, this is not Angel. The feather on this one’s wings do not come loose and fall to the floor – they ruffle and swish and dispense sparkles, they enfold and cocoon, they caress and soothe and excite the olfactory erogenous zones. And they keep on doing it, long after the cherub has left the building.
Chocolat, despite it’s compassionate and tender nature, has a distinctly savage side, which delivers that addictive quality in perfume – the ability to disturb, to disquiet, an ambiguity which suggests that, though angels dont have sex, (accounting for the number of feathers stuck in the second airlock door between heaven and earth), this angelic juice has most definitely got it going on.
Inside the bottle cap which I inquisitively stuck my fingertip, a small dribble of the perfume lurked overnight, concentrated with evaporation and the enigma of the disquiet became clear. There is, lurking in the base of this juice, a deep spicy note, a coriander/fenugreek almost cumin tinge, which is incredibly masculine.
What we have is the Archangel Michael, innocent and naive, yet racy and addictively sexy, who smells of cookies, ice cream, chocolate, caramel, has beautiful floor length wings, dances like John Travolta to Rock & Blues classics, protects the innocent, fights for justice (and for the rush) and will travel the USA in a beaten up car just to look at the worlds biggest rubber band ball.
But he has damp patches under the arms of his shirt, where you press your face when he pulls you in for a scrummy chest hug. And there’s the hook, you’re safe in the grasp of the big lad.
Always did love John Travolta. Congrats Il Profvumo. You bottled the legend.

I got a sample from LUCKYSCENT
here I thought the fragrance would be
rich mix of incense, woods and chocolate.
“Chocolat Amere is swoonworthy when worn by a man”
is what LUCKYSCENT advertised!
and I had really hoped for
this what I get …
Fruity top notes..
with strong cacao that suddenly fades
into a powdery vanilla
thats not real long lasting…
not at all the …
“The spices add alluring piquancy to the dark chocolate creaminess of the heart, and the base accord is an olfactory treat, a deep, satisfyingly rich mix of incense, woods and chocolate.”
Disappointing!!

Not at all for men….
rexyagogcrake – :
I have got it as a Christmas present and I love it!
In my opinion it is not dusty and dry at all… it is sweet and sensual…
It is like mixture between Angel and Angel Innocent.. just that in the end note it is more mature then Angel/Angel Innocent – I smell some patchily/musk/vanilla…
baglai7 – :
Smells more like vanilla and amber to me.

to me, dusty and “dry”.
not very chocolate, indeed.
