I dont feel this is ultra ‘Angel’ – its just that now with Angel’s popularity, its hard to not think of it in some way when you are sampling a fruity, woody, gourmand concoction.
I get the whole opening that is like a burst of fruit, a bit of citrus, then the cacao notes – I feel this is something a man can pull off pretty well.
As for whether I rate it great, good, average or poor.
It is really up to the nose – you will either love ingredients in it and it will be beautiful on your skin or you may pass on it.
It’s no comparison to 1270 by Frapin et Cie which although is not a chocoheaven style fragrance, has a similar kind of concept where you are mixing gourmand accords with fruity notes and woods and spices, also a unisex fragrance and frankly – a far superior composition.
I can see the ‘frais’ after about 10 minutes. I wouldn’t mind smelling this on a man but it doesn’t compare to 1270 in my opinion enough to head in this direction. Given I own 1270, this would be a big backwards step.
It’s not ultra masculine, so women shouldn’t shy from samplling it and there are lots of women who enjoy a good gourmand unisex. It’s just a bit blah. Also, Angel smells like fly spray on my skin and this one works fine – you wont have weird clashes, the question is really about tastes – this may very well be your next ‘it’ fragrance, but then again it may not – recommend you sample it.

Chocolat Frais to me is right away a feminine smell but just through familiar association I think? It reminds me of the smell of a womans hair or more specifically her head.(Not in a weird way!)
Unfortunately I really don’t know what I mean by that other than that’s what it reminds me of.
The chocolate accord in this is tempered with the odd notes of absinthe and heliotrope which to me gives it a totally different feel and one more pleasant and interesting than Chocolat Amere.
Rare notes in this and not something you smell everyday certainly not like Angel to my nose, the chocolate in that is totally different.
Long lasting and makes me think I’ll wear it again before branding it too feminine. I don’t think it’s ever going to end up in my collection anyway because I personally only need one chocolate fragrance and it’s between coco blanc and chocolate greedy for me.

I have to agree that there are far too many Angel replicas being produced in the last decade. I do get tired of smelling the same thing over and over again. Chocolat Frais does have that Angel-esque aroma, particularly in the opening.
Angel aside, Chocolat Frais does have a pleasing absinthe and fruit blend. Notes of pomegranate and apple really make this fragrance interesting, rather juicy too. The chocolate is smooth yet masculine. It’s not very gourmand in its approach, at least not according to me.
I wore a lot of Angel a few years ago, and wore enough of it to now associate the scent with some unpleasant memories. Although I do enjoy Chocolat Frais to a certain extent, I would never purchase it. The similarities to Angel are evident, and my past unfortunately ties in with that.
I honestly wouldn’t pay a large amount to own Chocolat Frais. I must admit that in some instances the composition is better than Angel, especially in regards to the lack of thick patchouli and the addition of more juicy fruits. However, seeing that Angel could round out cheaper, I would probably stick with the original.
I am disappointed, but I’m not displeased by the scent. Chocolat Frais has excellent longevity and sillage. Look at it this way, if you like Angel but want to smell a slightly improved version of it, do try Chocolat Frais.

Smells just like Angel, fantastic, so save your money and buy Thierry Mugler instead.

During the first 5 minutes the absinthe makes this very bitter on my skin. Then it settles down and turns a little medicinal and soapy (the “frais” part I guess) . I know what you’re thinking…soapy chocolate..yuck. Oddly after 5 minutes you won’t even smell the chocolate anymore. I think this kinda works, but not as a chocolate scent. It’s all absinthe. I’d say this is a little more over on the man side of the unisex scale. reminds me of L’artisan Fou d’ Absinthe…another male fragrance. not fb worthy to me for all those reasons , but I will enjoy the sample I got.

I had high hopes for this… all I can say is: nothing special. it’s not bad, it’s not good, just average. I guess this means my quest for a great chocolate perfume has not come to an end yet!

If someone walked by me on the street wafting this as they passed….I would bet my teeth they were wearing Angel. Then I would be wrong. And have to eat soup for the rest of my life.

If somebody gave me a sample of this without telling me the name, I’d say it was Angel EDT. It’s very… VERY… similar to it. It seems it has worked with my body chemistry ’cause it lasts a long time on my skin. A nice gourmand fragrance, but unnecessary if you already own Angel and some of its flankers.

Chocolate, vanilla, powdery perfume. On the stronger side. I like chocolate, to eat, not so much to smell like it. However I can appreciate this since it settles nicely on the skin and smells warm chocolatey and yummy.
This is very much so gourmandy fragrance with hints of powdery florals.

My favorite chocolate perfume, and my favorite absinthe perfume; it’s mysterious and alluring, because the absinthe definitely keeps it from smelling run-of-the-mill. The lasting power is excellent, and the boozy chocolate lasts throughout wear. Smelling like Godiva Liqueur is amazing for lifting spirits! (pun intended) I won’t be repurchasing this any time soon, though, because it is over-priced for my taste. If it cost $50.00 less, I would definitly keep it in my wardrobe. My husband is unimpressed with chocolate or vanilla fragrances, and he’s apparently anosmic to Chocolat Frais.

I bought this blindly, it was the cocoa and absinthe notes that attracted me to it. Plus being an “Il Profvmo”, which is a house of very high quality, I was expecting this to be love at first sniff.
Not so fast… I could love this, but only after the first 5 minutes pass…
I must admit, my bad, that the first 5 minutes I don’t enjoy, as the scent reminds me of Angel, minus all the chemical choking Angel has. But still, a softer, classier, Angel.
Once the those 5 minutes are gone, the scent starts developing its own character. It morphs into something that is still not completely original, but rather a woodier version of Visa by Robert Piguet, plus some cocoa, woods and absinthe.
The sweetness it has is not very gourmand, it must come from vanilla or the white peach, I cannot say precisely.
Silage and lasting power are a bit above average.
In all this is a beautiful scent, but considering is well over the $100 mark, I am not sure I recommend it.
I dislike Angel, but I love love love Piguet’s Visa. I also love absinthe, which has a magical, almost alchemist “aura” associated with it.
So this is a sexy perfume for a woman that is mysterious, classy, and sensual but a bit introverted, with a very interesting development on my skin. If you make it past the first 5 minutes….

I love the other to chocolate scents from this line but this is not going to be a purchase for me. It is authentic cocoa but the absinthe doesn’t sit well with me and makes it too medicinal for me and not feminine enough.
