This perfume reminds me of Hermes’ Vetiver Tonka, except woodier and smokier. The smoked cedar and resins play beautifully creating an incense-like aroma. After about 15-30 minutes the wheat, praline, and vetiver come out showing the gourmand side of this fragrance. It gets sweeter with time, as the cedar becomes weaker. It leans slightly towards the masculine end of the spectrum, but it’s still unisex. It can be worn year-round, it’s light enough for spring/summer nights.

Cedre Sandaraque is one of those odd creatures that walks the thin line between ‘gourmand’ and ‘everything else’. Whilst I don’t think it’s the best of this genre of ‘fume, it’s still a quality offering from a quality house – Not to mention one of the most interesting takes on ceder you’re likely to find.
Cedre Sandaraque opens with a hot, dry blast of resins and spicy woods. Already, the ever-present, dry, dusty wheat note is singing, creating an almost lavender-like olfactory illusion.
The resins are hot and dry, no fresh lemony frankincense or elemi here. The heart continues much like the opening, with dry resin, dry wood and dusty wheat taking centre-stage.
As you enter the drydown, an odd, ringing sweetness starts to sing. It’s an odd sweet note, not at all like praline to my nose, in fact, it’s almost an identical note to that found in Cuir Venenum. Here however it rings a little false, a touch synthetic and somehow ‘disconnected’ from otherwise lovely notes surrounding it. I think a more pronounced, sweet, almond note would have made a world of difference.
To my nose Cedre Sandaraque is unisex, perhaps leaning masculine. Sillage is heavy upon application, but quickly settles into moderate territory for most of its wear. Longevity is middling, a skin scent by 4 hours, still barely detectable at 6 hours.
All in all, an odd, beguiling take on an ingredient that we perhaps take for granted most of the time.

Normally I am not one to care for gourmands, but this is my favorite of all the gourmands I have tried – it says something. Cedre Sandaraque is basically a spicy-woody gourmand, and the spicy-woody part is quite strong so it keeps the gourmand part in check, which I like.
It reminds me of Christmas cookies, and since it is Christmas time, I will be wearing it!

smells like a smoker who just smoked an entire pack of cigarettes and then ate a chocolate bar

Smooth, syrupy, and only slightly sweet. It reminded me of Bois Blond, and I see I am not alone in my opinion. This does not have the oily green vegetal quality of Bois Blond. Cedre Sandaraque is different enough that it is well-worth it to own both if you are as obsessed with these intensely balsamic perfumes as I am. They remind, but they are not the same. Cedre Sandaraque starts out balsamic, with a bit of smoked cedar, and that unique hint of malted cereal. At times I am reminded of Christmas again. Seems like there is a sweet spice in there somewhere, maybe cinnamon or nutmeg. The heart contains more vetyver than anything else before drying down into a candied amber that reminds me of the crunchy coating on a candied apple. Not nearly so tooth-achingly sweet though, and not gourmand either. This is so beautiful and natural to me and reminds me very much of my beloved Aqua Allegoria Winter Delice.

Sweet, gourmand cedar.
Cedar is one of my favorite components in a fragrance.
Loved the opening of this one and got very exited. Thought I’ll get this for me for sure. But it went downhill from there fast. It became too sweet and nauseating for me. Scrubber…
Oh, Parfumerie Generale, sometimes you are difficult to like.

This fragrance is very different and very unique. At the top it smells like cedar, praline, and citus (even though it isn’t listed). It’s very strong but what’s weird is the cedar goes away and then it’s just praline and citrus. It smells a lot like Honey I Washed The Kids soap by Lush. So I get some smokiness, honey, sweetness, and a somewhat orange/pineapple note. Maybe my nose is messed up but this stuff smells great. I would rather buy the soap by lush though because it’s somewhat cheap (not by soap standards), and when left in your shower your bathroom smells like this for weeks.

Breathtaking (literally) cool fresh cedar turning quickly into rubber cement??? Now rubber cement with a shot of sweetness??? What the hell? Okay, minutes later the cement is going away but not completely, now its a plastic note…okay now its gone…turns into a really nice cedar with the semi-sweet resins just underneath. Gives it a warmer vibe.
I don’t think Im going to have time to finish this tonight due to the fact that the heart of this fragrance is still going on and on and on…..may have to redo this one.
Once you get to the heart it is a very intriguing resinous cedar. I recommend this one to lovers of this genre.
It just dawned on me. Its smells like the cedar is mixed with saffron. I don’t see it listed and I could be wrong but…..

Beautiful, that’s all I can say.
Another PG on my wish list. I don’t know if it’s coincidence with my skin, but I can’t stop sniffing my wrist. If I could choose perfumes that I wear from now until eternity it would be PG. I think I was enchanted.
edit few weeks later/ the top notes like the softest leather gloves, later to become warm woody oriental. Wonderful!

“Cedre Sandaraque” is a very interesting “cedar” fragrance. I think if you enjoy L’Artisans “Bois Farine”, you will like this one also.
“Cedre Sandaraque” on my skin is not really a cedar perfume, for me it is dominated by wheat, so it appears very gourmand like – white flour with praline and vanilla/nuts. Not my cup of tea, but rather enjoyable nevertheless. A very good staying power – 6 strong hours and few more as a powdery skin scent.
I did not find this too dark/warm as others mentioned as I did not get any amber and/or resins. Very unique “cedar”.

This smells like an outdoor barbeque with the hot cedar and resins melding with the smoldering sticky pralines. Strange, smoky, masculine, and sweet. Wear it and smell like a sexy spare rib. Very longlasting for a PG scent.

First of all,a big ”thank you” dear Yerdan for giving me the chance to try it!I am a big fan of vetiver! As Yerdan mentioned below,it does slightly reminds me of L’Artisan parfumeur Tea for Two,although Cedre Sandaraque is much more sweet and not so smoky as Tea for Two!I can’t detect any wood when it opens,it’s just very sweet, honey like amber which settles down to a rotten grape-honey combination which kills it!I don’t get any vetiver or wood,it’s just what I described..Lasting power is very good like most of Parfumerie Generale perfumes. If you love sweet-honey based scents then give it a try!

Something between honey and tea is what lingers on my skin after a very promising opening. Very ripe mango, slightly over the top. Except for the opening it reminds me Artisan Parfumeur Tea for two.
The opening is woodier, with some sweet-sour berries. The vetiver is very subdued and gives up soon.
Not my cup of tea. I don’t really see this on a man.

Wow… this is what I love!!! At the beginning it is really sweet like caramel buy also dry because of some resins used – like mix of olibanum with honey, very delicious plus some woody base. Than it develops to the beautiful cedre, similar to freshly sharpened pencil. This last for a while and than you can smell dry woody dust still on resinous base. CS is realy amazing fragrance, unique and worth the price. Silage is very good and it last forever. Even after 12h it is prominent skin scent. How to imagine this fragrance – for me best comparison, you are in a new farm house with unpolished, still wet, not completely dried walls, where somebody cooked full of spices gingerbread. House is full of early morning sunlight that warms the air so you can feel very comfortable and cozy. In my opinion this holly grail for wood scents lovers.

Dark honey ambered woods with light citrus overtones. Overall sweet impression. Perfect for winter! Larger decant ordered immediately, this is a keeper! 😉

very good scent, i dont like the depart but the middle and the are , fantastic, it is so natural effect i love the woody notes inthere ! will buy it !

Cedre Sandaraque is one of my favorite PG scents. I simply love the smell of fresh cedar nuts with a drop of amber sweetness in it. The base of Cedre sandaraque is very similar to Hermes Vetiver Tonka.
I somehow imagine this fragrance on men rather than on myself. If a man smelling of Cedre Sandaraque passed me by, I would turn around and give him a smile for sure!:)This is a perfect smell for a man!
The staying power is good. Try it, it’s worth it!
