WHY do I like this so much?
Trying to make some headway with the giant stash of samples I have, and spritzed this on thinking it’d go quickly into the “throw into a swap” pile.
And yet.
There’s something in the drydown here that reminds me of one of my other mainstream faves – Vince Camuto (the original). There’s no patchouli listed in the notes, and the two scents are by no means dupes, but there is definitely something that feels a bit like the rummy, lite-patch, osmanthus drydown of VC.
I’m not a candy-fragrance person in the slightest (usually the mention of cotton candy will send me running in the other direction) and I am also very much NOT the sort who would relish saying “Candy Yum Yum” if someone asked me what I was wearing. But I find this a little irresistible… and the overall effect is less baby-wants-candy and more fruity-sensual. I’m not sure if I’ll spring for a full bottle, but on my skin this really works.
Anyway. Yeah… I like it!

Very prominent guava! Can smell it all the way through the drydown in which the cotton candy becomes apparent along with a bit of vanilla. I’m not sure I detect much cherry blossom, and certainly not any iris. This perfume is youthful, sweet and girly, but those are the only words I’d use to describe it. Only a “likeable” scent, not really worthy of a full bottle.
altxxxsashka – :
This smells like cheap room air freshener at first. It does dry down pretty nice, so when I wear it I make sure to spray it on well before leaving the house. I get compliments on candy yum yum but I doubt I’ll get a full bottle.

Initially the Guava note is to intense for my taste so it is a bit off putting .
In less then 30 minutes I can detect very slight Cotton Candy note and Vanilla . Far more Vanilla. This takes away from the off putting Guava for me and I don’t mind wearing it when I want something different .It is not sweet at all on me . I was expecting it may be to sweet so the name doesn’t suit it at all on me . It’s rather nice but nothing really special .Yet on the other hand I can’t stop smelling my wrist – interesting 🙂

This scent actually surprised me. Coming from a cosmetics manufacturer I did not expect very much. Sadly I did not even realise that MAC has been producing fragrances for over 10 years now; I have been a long time MAC customer but I guess I never took note of any fragrances released. With that being said, Candy Yum Yum won my heart. I received a tester with an online cosmetics purchase and I was hooked after just a few hours of wear. This scent reminds me of Givenchy Haute Couture but less aggressive with a toned down sweetness and no syrup. I love sweet scents and I am not much of a floral wearer but the little sweet floral notes in this scent work well for me. It is the teeniest bit spicy to my nose and does not smell as cheap as the notes look. I was surprised to find a cotton candy accord as I am used to cotton candy being aggressive a la Pink Sugar (which I really can’t stand as it smells so extremely cheap). The vanilla works very well within this juice and leaves a caramelized musk to my skin. It’s a fresh sweetness that wears it’s name very well. I liked it so much I ended up purchasing the full size. The bottle is actually really cute too.

This one is a very familiar smell to me. If you’ve been a fragrance ‘collector’ or around the fragrance world for any length of time, this likely will be a familiar fragrance for you, as well. To me, this is cloyingly sweet. Like a teenager’s perfume. I can’t even speak of any of the notes, because this is just cloyingly synthetically sweet to me. Very chemical smelling. I like the bottle, the geometric design and the striking hot pink and black design. But the fragrance itself is always what matters to me, and this one is a pass for me.
Also, longevity is not good, barely half an hour and this poofs completely. I like Mac’s Velvet Teddy perfume a good deal, but this one was a little bit if a disappointment to me. Smells like a cheap deep discounted body spray, with about the same longevity (maybe worse longevity).

Just purchased this during the MAC Black Friday sale, I usually lean towards more clean or spicy scents, this one really stuck out to me though. When I put it on I got hints of almost…pine? Base notes are sweet and fruity but theres something different about this one.
kseniya21 – :
Love it. Even though I’m not a kinda of fruity person but this appeals to my nose and reminds me of Escada Magnetism which was back then (university days) a hit.
The iris gives it a mutare touch and the longevity is good due to it. So it can be worn by a mature lady I guess.

When I read about this, I thought, Why the Teletubbie name? It was bad enough in a lipstick shade, but in a perfume made for adults to wear?
Then I smelled this, and my opinion is that this is SUPPOSED to smell like something for the Teletubbies crowd. The name evokes plastic childhood toys in every imaginable shade of pink…from cotton candy and bubble gum…to pink fuzzy blankets and cherry blossom pajamas. And that’s what this smells like.
It’s definitely fun, but it’s not unique, and I don’t think I’d get much wear out of it.
Marafara – :
Sad to say this was no good at all for me. Plain and simple, it’s a very synthetic fruity-aquatic. Longevity and sillage are poor. I love the idea behind the shadescents collection but this one could be so much better.
AKbIH – :
This could absolutely be a summer Escada release, in the vein of “Sunset Heat”, “Pacific Paradise”, or “Ibiza Hippie”, etc. etc. though less watery and more sugary.
falcon – :
very pretty flirty fruity scent, lasts good too! would not wear the colour as a lipstick haha.
good for summer or any kind of season
koks78 – :
A nice bubbly, sweet scent (at least in my opinion) water notes. I definitely prefer this over all the other ones in the MAC shadescent line. I don’t distinctly smell the cotton candy. It smells clean and watery. Reminds me of Cool Water edt for women. Or Ralph Lauren Hot.
Torpeda – :
This is surprisingly good! It seems to be the token “sweet” scent in this line, but don’t let that fool you. It’s far from those sickly celebrity fragrances marketed to teens. Candy Yum Yum indeed is predominantly cotton candy and vanilla, but the guava adds a nice fruitiness. This is refreshing, as many times these sugary scents use berries instead. The candy element is tempered by the iris and cherry blossom, which hang out in the background reining in any unchecked sweetness. The iris is kind of dry, which keeps the guava from taking this fragrance into tropical territory. It has more depth than expected, and I think it’s one of the better ones from the shadescents line. Having said that, I don’t think I would get more than a decant or sample. I can live without it. However, it’s surprising there is such a lukewarm reception on here for this fragrance, though. There are many positive reviews for far more cloying scents.
demo200971 – :
I blind bought this based off of the notes and I really, really dislike it. It smells very sharp and has a lot of alcohol at first. Maybe it just doesn’t work with my chemistry but if I had to use one word to summarize my feelings of this perfume it would be YUCK.
zver32 – :
i think this one is gonna be the bestseller only because it is so mainstream compared to the rest of the collection jamba juice in a bottle
is good but forgettable , meh
boltik24 – :
Candy Yum Yum opens with a lot of ISO E Super. The drydown features mostly raspberry, tropical fruit, with a teaser of bubblegum. Yummy candy indeed. Upbeat, youthful, fun scent!
badrobot – :
This is nice and tropical fruity blast at first….then it’s a cheap generic skin stale musk without the fruit when the top notes fool you into thinking it’s a nice scent…..nope …every scent in this collection is horrible except creme d nude) pass.
vysockaya tatyan – :
I finally got my hands on one of these. Candy Yum Yum is my all time favorite lipstick. It was the only one I kept among the many Mac pink lipstick I’ve encountered. Having it as a perfume was a perk and so when I got the chance, I snagged one. I admit I expect alot of cotton candy, from hearing and reading and watching the first reviews that came out. Alot said it was sweet which was my first expectation, and it is but the most prominent allure is that is smells more tropically and very fruity. The first note I detected is the strong guava mixed in with sharp crispness of the cherry blossom while the iris gives it’s depth and richness. The cotton candy is there but mixed in and afterward the main notes transition to a soft warm skin musk. This is like Pink Barbie scent. Loud, electric but girly. I wish it did last longer because it’s a unique scent that really represents the pink iconic lipstick.
KaZuS – :
Official description~ a fruity floral gourmand with tropical fruit and cotton candy. [“Electric fruits and a shock of pink are at the heart of Candy Yum-Yum. Pink guava gives energy to this iconic M·A·C shade. The contrast of delicate cherry blossom and sophisticated Moroccan iris bring to life the girl who likes what she wants and wants what she likes. The gourmand aspect of the scent makes it irresistible and addictive, with a flourish of pink cotton candy woven throughout and a luscious vanilla to finish.”]
