My new Byzance arrived yesterday. I used to have the former edition of Byzance and loved it. I have to admit I was very reluctant when opening the bottle. Most of the relaunches of former perfumes where a disappointment to me. However, Byzance EDT was not!!
I am so happy it was relaunched. I do not want to tell if all notes are comparable, but it does remind me very much to former Byzance. To me what counted was that when wearing it for the first time yesterday in it transported me into my former Byzance feeling. Yes, I LOVE it. It is EDT but on my skin it lasted hours and hours and hours. It does remind me very much to former Byzance and this heavenly feeling when wearing it, a bewitching lovely fragance to me.

I have also bought Byzance 2017 because I used to be a fan of the original Byzance.
I agree with those who say that this new version barely has some reminiscence of the original one. As far as I remember, the original Byzance was a floral/oriental in the best manner, with a lot of depth. The new one may have the same flowery smell, but all the depth and grandeur are gone, making it just a decent floral perfume for daywear.. Besides, the new version is extremely powdery, which I don’t like so much….in conclusion, if you want something more or less similar to Byzance, go for it, but don’t expect the seduction bomb that the original Byzance used to be.

This is a personal one, because I bought its little sister Byzantine from my first wages – and it was already getting discontinued back then, so buying a bottle of Byzance was nearly mission impossible – and I love it dearly up to this day.
So I never actually tried Byzance, although once I read somewhere that this is the scent assigned to my zodiac sign, so I wanted to own it even more for this silly reason alone..It was also a cultish thing to me, first thing I ever looked up as for online shopping was this bottle, but then I just found it too expensive and gave it a pass: I was loaded with 30 different bottles, so it never seemed like I can`t live without it.
The other day I saw the new edition of Byzance on ebay, price reasonable, but only a few bottles left..I had to snatch it, it was like a `now or never again in this effin life`-moment.
The bottle is the same, or very similar to Madame Rochas, the cap is heavy, not plastic though. The box I`m not impressed with, but hey, let`s not be judgy.
    And the scent.
The initial blast is very 80-s – like a classic, good quality cologne for ladies, like Chanel no.5 or basically any other perf from that era. Bit green, bit soapy, bit heavy. Then as it dries, ylang-ylang, tuberose, amber, woods, all embraced by aldehydes, all along the way. I get no rose or carnation, or if they are there they blend in well, don`t stand out individually. The aldehydes are still there in the drydown, but the scent is complex, lasts 5-6 hours easily. And it`s lovely. Vintage feel, but it`s going strong, a real powerhouse perfume if you like. I recommend to dreamers like myself..

This is a great reissue, and quite faithful to the original. Keep in mind it’s still the EDT, which is airier than the rather sweet EDP. Interparfums is certainly a much better home than P&G for such a brand, and this gives me hope for future reissues.

I used to wear Byzance ages ago, and while this version may not be perfect, I think it’s close enough for me. The base notes are a little lighter and less musky in the new version, but otherwise it does feel that Byzance is “back”.
Unfortunately it seems to be fairly hard to find, even in France. I hope it will become more widely available.
Edit: Updating on longevity, this actually seems to be very longlasting. The drydown is quiet, but long and beautifully musky, as the original was. Kudos to Rochas for a good reformulation!

I have this edition already since march, and all i can say as far as i can remember the old formulation, it has not much changed. It is still the bewitching, strong and longlasting beauty as it was then. Surel< ,it was reformulated like the most of the classics, but it doesn`t dissapoint me, and i am happy to have this beauty back.

I guess I am 1 of the first 4 to own this new version. I already bought it online but I won’t be able to say anything about it until I test it in a few months when I arrive in the U.S.

I’m beyond excited for this! This was one of the first perfumes that I sniffed on a stranger and felt compelled to ask them what they were wearing. I was too young to be asking strangers anything…but it was so beautiful and the lady herself was so beautiful and classy I couldn’t help myself! Fast forward to my teenage years when I moved to Sydney and spent a month living with my Aunt before branching out on my own fully, and there it was! The stunning blue bottle with the name I recognised from a few years before. Sitting on her dressing table just begging to be sprayed. That bottle went down rather quickly. Sorry Auntie Linda….it was meeeeee!!
I hope this new version is the homage the original deserves.

Rochas has relaunched some of their classics in reformulations in concordance with the “safe” standards (imposed).
I have tried this Byzance. It is just okay; nothing more. Not bad, not great – just okay.
Summing up: a whisper of the splendor it used to be.

    Great!
I used to love Byzance, especially on rainy days… In fact, it was my rainy day fragrance, but I’m speaking about 20 years ago…
I wish the unique bottle didn’t change, but maybe the aesthetics of today call for something entirely different…
