By Night is a nice and smooth incensy-coniferous, slightly citrucy at the opening, fresh-spicy scent suitable for warm weather, day and night. It feels quite masculine but women could aslo wear it imo. It’s cousins are Wild on Wood by Rasasi, Eden Palace Herve Gambs, TF Grey Vetiver, Encre Noire A L’Extreme Lalique.
It opens with a light citrusy vibe followed by subtle coniferous notes and noticeable incense note, same as in Lalique’s Extreme. There’s also at the background a discreet greeny sub-sweet vibe but the citruses in the blend are stronger than that. After some hours the only I can feel is a nice slightly citrusy-smoky juniper vibe, quite manly smell imo and close to the Eden Palace by Herfe Gambs minus the incense.
Dominant notes are juniper, incense, bergamot, cypress, mild mate, very mild mandarine/lavender, faint fig leaf.
I can’t detect rose or jasmine here. Not even traces.
Performance is moderate overall. Sillage is moderate, projection is soft. It doesn’t project much but it’s there, discreet and elegant.
My bottle is different. Black color with marble cap.

A juniperous woody composition with Cedar and Cypress joining the choir gently supported by fruits and florals. I can understand the associations to Mediterranean gardens that reviewers have, but to me By Night Black is a walk in a Scandinavian mixed forest on a warm, early summer day.
The dry down is very discrete, cedary with a creamy touch of incense lingering behind the trees.
My main problem with By Night Black is that for me sillage drops rapidly and in a few hours it has allmost dissapered completely.

Not a great fragrance for men – too much jasmine and rose hip overpowering the woodsy notes. The citruses are not well balanced. I think this perfume needs more vanilla, coco, chocolate or labdanum rather than rose hip.

This frag is a disaster imo, which is sad since this house has put out some scents that are ok. They fact that they call themselves niche is not an excuse to charge a price that is higher than a Byredo for instance. They should slash their price by 3 and they will have better sales I guarantee.

I bought this sample by mistake, I really wanted Roma Imperiale, but I really like it as a man’s fragrance. I did try it today in work, and nobody has said anything. It was a little loud and distinctly masculine on initial application, but 2 hours in and it has calmed down to a skin scent. I can smell the incense now. I will give this to my boyfriend, I would definately like it on him.

I’m a huge fan of this line but By Night Black is probably the most disappointing delivery among their range. I’m used to either their thickness (Ambra Mediterranea, Versilia Platinum, Versilia Boisè) or their pleasant weirdness (Tirrenico) but this By Night doesn’t convince me. It opens with a zesty lime-mandarin accord that’s immediately joined by subtle coniferous notes and incense while green-watery facets remark their presence very timidly. There’s an overal structural weakness that underwhelms me. On paper, it could have been a nice and fresh smoky-incense but, after applying 1,5ml of this stuff on my skin, I can barely smell it…
Too little…sad.

Just sampled this today. I think this is a really great scent. Reminds me of sitting in a hot and sunny italian garden witha twist of incense.

A nicely done cypress and fruit on cedar base with basil. It reminds me of a Goutal with its luscious fruit and heavy cypress with some added twists of incense, basil, and fig leaf. A very fresh fruity green perfume best used in daytime…a tiny bit like Chanel Bleu. If fruity cypress with incense is your thing, then definitely give this a go. It has medium longevity 4-6 hours, but stays fairly close to the skin. Great for office wear. Somewhere in the back of my mind I also remember an Etienne Aigner that smelled a tiny bit like this…Private One, I think, though By Night is much more natural and delicious.

Involuntarily I imagine garden on the Mediterranean Sea. It is the floral-citrus bouquet on the thin base consisting of a cedar and an incense. All very much elaborately. But I do not have the longevity.
