Description

After the success of Bvlgari Man In Black fragrance from 2014, presented as a flanker of the original Bvlgari Man from 2010, Bvlgari launches its two new editions in 2016. First came Bvlgari Man Black Cologne, an unusual summer, oriental-fresh Eau de Toilette, and that is now followed by Bvlgari Man Black Orient, a lush oriental Eau de Parfum for the fall season. The fragrances are developed by Alberto Morillas.

Sophisticated and mysterious, Bvlgari Man Black Orient has a spicy aromatic opening thanks to the rich notes of rum (a standard for the collection) and peppery cardamom. The opulent floral heart includes lavish tuberose and oriental Taif rose, laid on the intensive masculine basis of oud and leather.

The fragrance is available as a 60 and 100 ml Eau de Parfum.

Rum, oud and cardamom seems a nice recipe… on the paper. Unfortunately I can’t smell the oud, only the dark rum combined to a cardamom overly sweetened by a candy rose.
I think Morillas nailed it with this “Orient” flanker, since it really makes me think of an indian pastry.
That said, I’m not interested in smelling like a coconut-cardamom flan. This is a women’s perfume.
That’s a no for me. Next in line please!

I have tried this scent about 4-5 times resulting with an hash opening, that really didnt dissapered in the drydown.
The 6.th time I tried it, the hash smell was gone. Now the scent is really good. I dont know if it is my nouse that has adapted to the smell or if it was something in the top of the bottle.

I re-evaluated this perfume yesterday. I was disappointed because as a previous writing I would have liked to smell the floral notes of pink and tuberose. but they are absent. I feel a dark scent almost niche, leather, oud and smoke and a light rum and very high performance. 9/10

This is another special fragrance from the beloved House of Bvlgari. I personally love Bvlgari as I grew up wearing their fragrances and our engagement rings were Bvlgari.
This is a rich and luxury fragrance with a hint of booze and exotic spices. I find it a bit dark and dense though, so I don’t overspray and stick to wearing this on darker/colder days.
I also own MIB and MIB Orient is definitely heavier, denser and longer lasting. MIB in that sense may be more versatile.
    Scent: 9/10
    Sillage: 8/10
    Longevity: 9/10

Well, this is not completely different from MIB that I own. I find it redundant owning both but there are differences. Black Orient has very strong spiceness that looks like black peper, especially at the opening and a pinch of rose (also at the opening). The rest 90% is MIB. It’s all about leather, rum, mild spicy cardamom, a pinch of rose And there’s no oud here not even traces.
Good performance as its twin brother MIB.
It’s not similar to Oud Carthage by Boucheron.

One of my “go-to” scents. On my skin it projects a very warm wood and spice note. Definitely a cold weather fragrance as it turns a bit muddy in hot weather. On skin performance lasts a solid 6 hours, while lingering on clothes much longer. I love it!

FYI Found at TJ Maxx for $59.99 – Grabbed it – Smells similar to MIB on opening, then the dry down I get some oud, sharp oud with spices and leather. Actually think I like this better. Wore both side by side and this one seemed a little louder.

middle notes are overpowered by a masala paan like smell, topnotes and drydown is good. long lasting good sillage

I had high hopes from this fragrance, upon reading the reviews. The wood, the oud, taif rose, tuberose, rum etc.. seductive & mysterious stuff they said.
I sprayed it on both a paper strip and on my hand as well. I must say i was terribly disappointed. The initial blast or the opening is PURE WOOD. Think of Lalique’s Encre Noir or DQUARED He Wood. It made me sneeze thrice, and i pride myself for having a nose which is NOT too sensitive.
I was more disappointed when the middle notes were also wood. Exactly the same as the opening. I could not catch any floral notes. NO taif rose, NO tuberose. Come the drydown, well thats perhaps the best part of this fragrance. Its woody sweet and you get a hint of oud. Mind you just a whiff. It smells nice and sophisticated, but really generic. Its nothing that great or memorable. I have a cheaper fragrance which gives me the same drydown and even stays for longer. Throughout, the pure wood note is dominant too. The two floral notes were ENTIRELY ABSENT. If i want a pure wood fragrance, there are so many better perfumes.
I tried this perfume twice in two different stores and got the same result. As for sillage, the initial blast will travel around a bit, but when it starts settling down and towards the drydown it becomes a skin scent. The longevity is good as it stays for about 3-4 hours.
Now i dont know why, there is hardly anything oriental about it, maybe except for the drydown. Maybe i get such notes because it tried it in summer or else i got a particularly bad formulation. If you came looking for the oud + taif rose/tuberose combination, as did i, trust me you will be heartbroken. All in all, its a big disappointment as it turns out to be something which is not what it claims to be.

It still smells like the Original, But it’s deeper Mysterious, And with added Spice, It’s not A wow Fragrance but it’s a bearable Oud Scent, it’s Good in Projection, sillage and it’s well Blended. It’s true that it’s not for many Occasions & Imo the Versatility:7/10.
    Scent :8.5/10.
    Longevity :9/10.
    Sillage :7.8/10.

    Fragrance -Bvlgari Man Black Orient
    Bottle from – 2016
Black Orient opens with a bit spicy and boozy rum with a wisper of eluding incense, followed by gentle and intriguing florals in the middle. This all leads into a oudy, leathery, boozy and a bit smokey base.Don’t be afraid of oud. It’s not the heavy and harsh oud.He is clean, pleasant and likeable. This fragrance reminds me of a intelligent, sophisticated, honest and profound gentleman.A gentleman you can trust. It has some similarities to Man in Black by Bvlgari in the opening and Straight to Heaven by Kilian in the middle.
    Longevity – 8/10(8+ hours)
Silage/Projection – 8,5/10(heavy to moderate projection and silage for the first 2-3 hours)
Weather – best autumn and winter.
    Age – 25+
    Compliments – 7/10
    Scent – 8,5/10
Main notes according to me – rum, oud, leather, incense, flowers, cardamom.

    Emotions -intelligent,sophisticated,profound,dark vibe elegance,distinguished,classy.
Occasion – perfect for nights out,semi-formal event and special occasions.
Definitely will get everyone’s attention.Try before you buy.

To me it smells mostly of wood. Quite sharp, though. No sweetness here. Seems to have good sillage.

I love Oud, I love Leather, I love Oud/Leather, I love boozy fragrances, I love Man in Black, I love other Bvlgari fragrances… but I do not have more than an “yeah… it’s Ok” for Men in Black Orient.
I recognise the beauty of the bottle, the well above average performance, that it does not smell cheap… but my car does not fit in this garage.
It’s probably my fault as I also consider Sauvage and Bleu as average fragrances.

I’m not sure how I feel about this one. I enjoy the original greatly with its blast of spice. This scent, oddly, is less spicy than the original. It’s a very simple few notes:
Boozy leather with an undertone of spice
The booziness fades after a few minutes and leather becomes the dominant note. IF there is oud, it blends with the leather. Not terrible, but not terribly interesting either.

One of the subjects I have seen generating much confusion in contemporary commercial perfumery is the return of popularity of parfum concentrations. Conscious that the consumer (especially the masculine) looks for perfumes with greater intensity and duration it hasn’t become unusual to see brands that throw a parfum or profumo of its best sellers.
However, it is not uncommon that many of these parfums are actually eau de parfum or that they end up behaving like one on the skin due perhaps to close concentrations between an edp and a parfum and to the modern composition style, which favors an overdose of musks that certainly have a limit of perception no matter how much you increase your concentration.
The Orient version of Bvlgari Man Black’s public success falls just in that tight spot. It is possible to see that the Bvlgari Man line became the biggest male success of the brand and that the Black version practically stopped being a flanker and became a perfume itself, generating variations of his idea. The Orient Version is bolder in its concept and grades and it is in the trend with concentration, however it disappoints in execution.
The idea itself is interesting, transforming an Arab Oriental dynamic into something more minimalist and palatable. In a way, Alberto Morillas has made a showroom of several modern notes that have fallen in popular taste: we have an amber and sweet oud facet, a boozy accord, leather nuances and even floral touches of rose for a male audience. Everything seems to dance in harmony and it is even possible to perceive an exotic and oily touch of leather that closely remembers the osmanthus flower. However, after 1 hour, the perfume seems to drown in musks and mute its oriental charms, lingering in something soft, with woody touches and that is not as interesting as the opening. This does not pass the parfum concentration as the name suggests, perhaps not even an eau de parfum. But it is quite possible that it is concentrated just as the name implies, it is only curious that the perfumer had been led to make us such an express orient journey.

A fantastic scent! It actually smells like spice market(oriental spices) and may be it’s named after that as well…being an Indian i know oriental spices and the smell is just spot on!Lovely creation…

Quick review of Bvlgary Man Black Orient – EDP
    – Wonderfull looking bottle ! Good sprayer !
    – Oud Leather fragrance – I love this type of scent. It’s a cold weather fragrance. Wear it during a summer hot day and even flies will try to be miles away from you!
    – Smooth, well blended, good notes harmony during it’s evolution !
    – Atracts compliments from Oriental frags lovers! The Rum / Cardamom opening is quite great. The introduction of Taif Rose along with Tuberose does team along quite well with the Oud and Leather base notes. It does have a loud projection so be calm with the sprayer. Its sillage peaks at 5~6 feet till the end of the 3d hour. The dry down has a generous sillage still, and do expect to have a practical skin scent till the 12/14th hour. It does have a well above average performance and perform even better on clothes!
    – Does not smell cheap or syntethic. It really smells classy and Bvlgary marketeers did not need call it F****** Oriental or some other similar name!
    – It’s somewhat different from Man in Black. It does have a vibe from the original but the opening booze and the strong Oud and Leather do make it quite different.
    – In my top 10!
    – Price is still above Bvlgary Man in Black. It will go down a bit more in the future.
    My rates for :

Comment: The average note does not reflect how much I love this EDP mainly due to the low versatility. If you like it as much as I do and do not consider important the versatility factor, the final average note would be 8.81.

Smells exactly like whiskey. Very strong in the beginning. I like it, however this is not a young men’s fragrance.

  22. :

    4 out of 5

Redundant to a degree if you already like “Man In Black”… I enjoy flankers that are similar yet different, which this is barely. However, it’s a solid fragrance just like the original with a few very minor tweaks. Meh…
It’s about the same scent profile as “Man In Black”, which I love… The only difference is the dry down which is somewhat more floral, less sweet… A little more woody. The oud and rose are very subdued, if you like rose in a masculine setting, this is an inexpensive and satisfactory route to go. I enjoy this as I do the original MIB. I would probably prefer this one to the original as it’s a bit more complex and alluring as this type of scent is supposed to be. Either way, for the price, I don’t think you can go wrong if you’re looking for a modern woody scent.
Longevity and sillage are great, just like with MIB… 8+ hours, first 2-3 of good sillage. It’s solid. I’ll probably purchase Black Orient when my bottle of MIB is done.

Does anyone else think it’s funny that the normal Black has much more Oriental spice notes then the Orient? I’m now wearing Black on my left hand and Orient on my right, and the Orient seems much richer, allthough it has less notes.
I also get a smokey, incense like smell, the kind of incense they’d have at a funural. Fortunately it took me a while to realise wich kind of incense it was, and it does not reminds me of a funeral at all, but more like a nice fall night (halloween like) and a campfire outside.
I don’t think it’s all that similar to Men in Black, I do like this better alltough it does not seem to change that much.

  28. :

    4 out of 5

I love Man in Black, so I needed to get my hands on this and I did…it didn’t disappoint.
Upon initial spray it’s a boozy blast that settles down to a woodsy and leathery scent. To my nose these notes combine to make a beautiful scent reminiscent of my trip to Greece and smelling incense.
    Great scent!

  29. :

    4 out of 5

It smells like a woodsier version of the Man in Black, but to me the Oud note is very very vague and weak, sadly

  30. :

    5 out of 5

    Considering it’s a Bvlgari, it’s not bad.
I’d look for oud elsewhere (Montale, for instance).
I like the rhum note a lot.
But I also get too much rose (and in a Paris from YSL way!) and I don’t see much manliness in it. That’s why this is one of my mother’s favourites.
    Enough said.

  31. :

Receive my bvlgary man black orient has a nice tobacco leather smell like the original but performance is not great seems like after 30 minutes it disappears on me bummer it’s a nice fall winter fragrance.

  32. :

so nice reminds me a lot of Gucci pour home really this is an amazing scent if only last longer it will be a niche fragrance !!

  33. :

    4 out of 5

Reminded me a lot of Spicebomb when I first tried it on my hand.
And after a full wearing I fall in love. Very nice and not that close to Spicebomb specially when sprayed on clothes. Gonna use a hell lot of that fragrance.

  34. :

    5 out of 5

I like oud, so I could not pass by, I honestly expected that oud note would be strong enough, but it is rather a light shade here, it’s strong presence begins to disappear quickly, and it goes far to the second place, It seemed to me that there was a cinnamon, although it seems like it is not in the composition, it appears with the skin, cinnamon sweetness as well as oud makes a step back, but the skin does not want to go anywhere. And at some point you can smell something floral, I would even say with a light, barely perceptible fresh note of menthol, almost not audible. Cardamom has not yet caught, but as they say, it’s not evening yet. For me this aroma associates with the autumn period, such cool windless evening in the end of September when there’s about +12C , and around dryly, leaves rustle under legs. But I will be actively testing it in March, I can’t wait six months, too long)
Began to actively wear it, and now I decided to add that in about 3-4 hours it becomes very similar to versace oud noir in it’s early stage, and I really enjoyed it, because The latter gradually becomes fresh-oceanic by the end.

  35. :

    5 out of 5

The opening of this cologne really attracted me..the rum and the cardamom gives it a subtle sweetness. The oud that comes in after is a little powdery for me, it could be smoother. Very masculine though!

  36. :

    5 out of 5

Nice one , for me is better then some niche fragrances. Strong and powerfull , mature , sexy.
Smell like a real man , i dont not find it too close to bvlgari black.
Also for me the oud is strange , i smell the “wood” note but for me is just wood with a little oud trail. Im noob maybe.

Definitely my next buy, kept the paper i sprayed this on and I kid you not 2 weeks later its still as strong and lively. It is more masculine than Bvlgari Man In Black though they do at 1st come off as similar…this is definitely me

    Initial impression short review
Very pleasant oud leather, sweetened by booze, amplified by cardmamom, tempered by smooth florals. After the initial boozy blast, settles after a couple hours to an oud leather similar to Versace Oud Noir. Performance seems just ok, however, still might want a whole bottle…

  46. :

    3 out of 5

Aside from the stunning bottle, this is quality juice. It opens very spicy and strong. I was not a fan of the opening, but this grows on you throughout the wearing. Eventually the Oud calms down and makes way for that majestic Man in Black base. With that said, the Oud is present throughout the entire fragrance and smells sublime. Personally, I am not a fan of Oud, but Black Orient creates a paradigm shift in my olfactory bulb.
This one lasts a commendable time, and projects nicely. I could smell it one my hand, very slightly, the next day.
In short, Black Orient is an excellent flanker to the already spicy Man in Black. On the contrary. it is less versatile but definitely more special.
For the more fancy wearers who long for a bit of Oud in their spices.

  47. :

Smooth, sexy cardamom soft oud & rose!
The only Bvlgari I wanted to purchase and wear!

  48. :

    3 out of 5

So I got my bottle, and I like this very much. To me it’s very similar to the original Man in Black. It’s the addition of oud that makes it different, more dense and heavy. This one goes right up there among my favourites perfumes. I see other people write about the rose, but in all honesty I can’t detect any rose. It’s nothing floral here to me, but it could just be my nose. The only negative to me is that it’s maybe to close the original.

  49. :

    3 out of 5

I had so many expectations for a new perfume to the rose but I tell you now that I have been disappointed. the opening is pleasant, very alcoholic (rum?) and strong with slight notes of cardamom …. then the best part … rose !!!!! but lasts few minutes … along with tuberous … this part is very pleasant because the flavor is intense and floral and feels it coming something pleasant incensed …. and I said wow !!!!!
and then …. then the end of everything … the oud comes in the form of a heavy and oppressive smoke covering everything. It left with a wood smoke smell burned with little sillage and little longevity. what a disappointment. 5/10.

  50. :

okay just received my Black Orient 60ml – Smells very similar to Man In Black which i adore. Now i just hope the performance is better. Will report back

  52. :

    3 out of 5

This is still pretty much similar to the original MiB (80%), maybe more so to the All Black edition (90%) with a heavy oriental oud opening; it feels stickier, richer, and warmer.

  53. :

    5 out of 5

Like the other flanker, Man in Black, smokier, pencil sharpening edge reminiscent of Gucci Pour Homme (TF era). Longevity excellent – 12 hours later it is still reasonably strong on skin. Projection is very good. Flankers like this would allow you to cycle through the series through the day, for example, MIB during the day, for an evening out re-apply BO.

  54. :

    4 out of 5

once again another oud, the synthetic one, the fake one. Sooo original. The world was waiting for this. Fortunately some of the brands are getting back to western styles becauses honestly, western perfumerie is still the best and i really don’t give a crap about that middle eastern heavy style. Actually i don’t understand they wear that stinking kind of heavy oriental sticky scents in that burning hot climat. I don’t even want to check this one out from the moment i saw it’s another oud fragrance. Bye bye bulgari

  55. :

    3 out of 5

On my bottle it says Perfume,
does that mean its not an EDP
    as stated by fragrantica ?
Anyway if you like the man in black series,
it does not necessarily mean you actually
will enjoy this one as its totally different.
The first spray is a blast of strong heavy
smoke, very well blended, but it seems like
it never really develops from there on, it is
just a strong smokey oud with hints of rose, i
like it but this is not a safe buy if you dont
    like heavy hitters,
