Description

Bvlgari is launching a new fragrance in September this year. The perfume named BLV Eau de Parfum II joins their opulent collection of perfumes as a feminine aroma which gives a feeling of nature, femininity, magnetism and harmony. Bluish nuances and modern vision of perfume BLV EDP II were created in cooperation with perfumer Jacques Cavallier.

Cavallier says he did not want to create a fragrance that reminds of transparent aromas of the 90es, but to offer a rich, clear and sophisticated fragrance which expresses quality of the house of Bvlgari. “This is a positive, encouraging fragrance which connects the opposites”.

Top notes of Bvlgari BLV Eau de Parfum II introduce violet, star anise, liquorice and mandarin, while letting a floral heart dominate with its aromas of iris absolute surrounded with patchouli and Haiti vetiver. A base incorporates three amber nuances: ambergris and benzoin, with labdanum, finishing with Tonka and musk.

Its flacon has geometrical shape and slightly curved surfaces with a silver stopper with engraved logo of the brand. The perfume can be purchased as 30, 50 and 75 ml EDP, along with accompanying products – 200 ml perfumed bath and 200 ml body lotion. Advertising face is Laetitia Casta who is wearing Sassi necklace from High Jewelry collection. BLV Eau de Parfum II was launched in 2009.

‘Bookishbeauty’says it best for me below…
“I bought this because it literally jerked my head around to smell it again after I casually picked up the tester in a store. I had put it down and started to walk away, then thought “WAIT. What was that???” Needless to say, it came home with me.
I have been wearing this BLV II two out of three days lately, but I still haven’t reviewed it because, as much as I like it, I can’t for the life of me figure out what I am smelling!! Haha. I look at the notes and think, “Ok, anise, yes…tonka, yes, citrus, yes…patchouli and vetiver, yes…” But somehow all of them together make this light-as-air, sweet but tart, smooth but sparkling, deep but fluffy scent that just doesn’t make sense to my brain, but in a good way. It’s so soft, yet I catch whiffs of it all day long somehow (it has crazy longevity for me!)–like it’s a cloud around me but I can hardly smell it on my wrist. So weird, but wonderful is how I would have to describe this.
Edit: Oh my, I just read what the perfumer said of this scent above: “A positive, encouraging scent which connects the opposites.” Well, I’d say he absolutely succeeded!!”

Bvlgari EDP II incarnates everything I love in life! violets, star anise and licorice make it the most perfect opening note for my nose and my heart. This scent is well rounded and very elegant, no so much “light” or subtle as dignified and most unique.
For the first half hour there´s a decent projection, afterwards the middle notes are not much noticeable to me, and it fades abruptly. Sadly the longevity is rather short on skin, it lingers longer on clothing though.
I cannot really single out the musk and amber in the base notes (the latter which I usually love), yet the tonka bean is definitely, yummyly there.
I would recommend this scent to lovers of Lolita Lempicka, they share the same signature notes, the BLV II is slightly more sophisticated and -in my opinion- less “feminine”, more neutral gender and cleaner.

On my skin it opens really sweet, the licorice is prominent on the first hour; it dries down getting stronger on the base notes (vetiver, making it almost masculine) and tonka. At this point, it reminds me of a perfume my father used to wear when I was a kid, Dior Fareinheint. Although it is not listed, I do smell cinnamon. For me it’s a more night out scent, I’d wear it on a date. Not sure if it’s the kind of fragrance that men would like on a woman – I asked a guy if he liked it and he said he did, but I don’t see it as a crowd pleaser. I didnt get compliments with it yet. I love the color and the bottle so I blind bought it, but I do not recomend anyone else to do it – I was really surprised about how strong this fragrance is, despite the “blue” message it sells. I wouldn’t buy it again.

This is a very pretty and feminine violet fragrance, ideal for spring. It is not a supercharged violet (as in, for instance, Guerlain Insolence) but a very soft, fresh, almost aquatic one. Although the scent itself is not in-your-face strong and memorable, it lasts about 5 hours on my skin and doesn’t change much throughout its development. Highly recommended to those who need a reasonably priced, safe, pleasant, feminine, office-friendly, slightly aquatic floral scent.

I agree with Amy – this is really lovely violet. Whilst sniffing violets in many other fragrances and I always seemed to hate that fragrance, I started thinking I can’t stand violets in perfumes. Until BLV II. This is really decent, delicate violet, with some lovely musk.
To me it smells aquatic fresh with light vetiver background.
    Definitely spring/summer suitable.

To me this is a fresh, beautiful, sophisticated violet. I love violet but so often they are far too candied- sort of like artificial cherry flavoring. 🙂 There is a story that Cleopatra wore violet because you can only smell it so long before the scent receptors for it are filled up- then like magic, another wave hits as the receptors are freed up and you can once again smell the violets. Bvlgari BVL II is almost the perfect violet for me. There are a cacophony of notes listed but for me what comes through is the mandarin orange, and the violet that even as a top note continues to reappear. The Iris and Vetiver burst through and I only get a hint of the patchouli, just enough to complement the other notes. There is that violet again now, softer, as the cent deepens into a more oriental flavor with the sweetness of amber mixed with tonka beans, a hint of musk. The drydown on me is sweet but fresh, not cloying and it feels very elegant without being overwhelming. One of my favorites I have to say.

Think of this as Lolita Lempicka’s daytime / summer companion.
If you like a clean licorice anise fragrance, this is quite an appropriate scent for work.
It’s a light enough scent not to be offensive. Unfortunately, I find licorice and anise are not my cup of tea. But if you like these notes, plus violet and clean musk, I think this is worth a try.
Medium durability (5 to 6 hrs), and low to moderate sillage.

I wear this one since high school, smelled it for the first time at the airport in Poland and fell in love. Now, my life is completely different, I went through so much, but I still love that BLV II power. I own many perfumes, all of them are carefully chosen and have their own story, but none of them beats this one. Can’t believe I found my signature smell already back in high school (and I am the kind of person who always needs change).
It is masculine, for sure. I find that woody/oriental feeling very sexy, but I love that it is kind of hidden behind clean feminine violet scent that is very strong at the beginning.
I use it for so long that I can recognise different scents that are usually related to my mood or cycle. But there isn’t a thing in BLV II that wouldn’t represent me or get me in better mood.
I think it is very special, definitely not for everyone. I appreciate that. I also noted that women usually don’t like it or don’t even smell it, but men often mention it as very special and sexy smell.
When I figured out that my boyfriend also wears Bvlgari Blv for men, I knew we’re meant to be 😀

This one has to go back! Headache from the beginning and I can barely smell anything. Not sure I understand. I have the first edition of BLV and I do love it. Thought this one would be the same but it is not.

    Profumo 2/10
    Sillage 2/10
    Longevità 3/10

This is quite a versatile perfume. I read many comments below and was not surprised to read very different reviews about this scent. On me the opening is strong and sharp. The star anise is very intensive with a light touch of mandarin orange. A couple of minutes after (circa 30), iris and patchouli develop and soften the star anise. Vetiver is noticeable. At this point the perfume is very masculine. To the point that I would recommend it without any doubt to men. The dry down (after 2-3 hours) is a warm woody-spicy mature scent both for women and men: star anise, patchouli, amber (which makes it warm), tonka bean and smokey musk. The presence if iris is still lingering. Beautiful pyramid. Sophisticated scent. Not suitable to everyone though. It’s strong, powerful. I would not recommend it at all for a blind buy. If you appreciate BLV Notte, you might like this one too.
Longevity: up to 8 hrs (one spritz)
Sillage: moderate sprayed with “moderation” (2-3 spritz). If not, heavy (but not headache-like).
Suitable for both gender. Masculine, powerful fragrance. Sophisticated. Suits for professional context and night.

This begins with strong vilet, but not a fresh one. It’s a candied violet, very unpleasant for me.
Very masculine in the dray down.
I think Féerie by Van Cleef & Arpels EDT is much more fresher and violets has not that sugar candied note.

The liquorice and star-anis unfortunately brought me nausea. Also very masculine on me.I gave it away to my mother.

Such a pretty fresh fragrance. Perfect for any occasion, especially in hot/humid weather. If you dislike the harsh woody/chemical induced, powder dry downs of Infusion d’iris (Prada) and The Beat (Burberry), or the other too sweet frags, then this is for you. This is similar but much better formulated. It remains fresh on the skin. Enjoy! This is sweet but not too sweet. I also agree with others that this is a summer version of Lolita Lempicka (another favorite of mine).

I’ll admit, this scent has surprised me. The first few times I wore it I thought it was done after two hours. I have recently discovered this fragrance’s “second wind.”
The opening is almost sugar sweet. It feels like it’s the mandarin; but the citrus is near nonexistent. Just the sugar, a fresh sugar, is here; luckily it’s just a few moments, otherwise it would cloy. Cool and crisp, the florals are powdery. Iris and violet play together with a bit of the licorice keeping it cool. Throughout this I get wafts of an almost fecund green earthiness. I can’t pinpoint where it’s coming from; perhaps an interplay of patchouli/vetiver? It’s a bit of lovely discord to all that soft powder, actually. And then it all settles to a pretty skin scent.
And I used to believe that here it died. Except, goodness gracious, 4 hours in, the violet wakes up again. All on its own. It’s beautiful, projecting a new soft cloud. This is reminiscent of the Eau de Gaga 001 violet, but without the twingey buzz of Gaga’s leather. I like it better here. And it’s lasting.

What a lovely violet! I only wish that that this fragrance had the longevity and sillage that it deserves. I am an avid lover of powdery iris and sweet violet, and to have them together is heaven. The problem is that I only have heaven for 30 mins. The first 5 are sublime! So clean and sparkling. This is not a sexy fragrance, it is cool, a little stand-offish. The sort of fragrance to wear when you want to float a bit above the fray and discourage male attention. That said, it is beautiful. Give me the topnotes of this fragrance at 5 times the power and I might make it my warm weather signature. As it stands now…a good four sprays an hour ago and I am at a loss now. It has dwindled to a very shy violet peeking out from a stand of birch. Acceptable, but nowhere near as outstanding as those first 5 minutes.

  18. :

    4 out of 5

My mother in law gave me her bottle, I agree with the former reviewer that it overall is a light dry woodsy scent…the floral notes are subtle so what dominates overall is the vetiver, which gives it a dry hash , almost masculine vibe…it could have been a delightful soft scent, utterly romantic, but it isn’t, at least on me..it disappears too fast to be a valid option to recommend!? I agree this is a watery scent, not much there, outside of what it could have been!? Bvlgari didn’t work too hard on that one.

  19. :

    5 out of 5

This seems to have many of my favourite notes. Violet, star anise, licorice, patchouli, benzoin, tonka… And few more.
I bought this blind only because of the mouthwatering notes… All I get is dry woody scent on my skin. That’s possibly vetiver. If I spray about 6 times on the same spot then I might smell a tiny hint of something anise-like but it disappears in few seconds.
This lasts on my skin very very short time. Not even half an hour.
I have to wait until the weather warms and maybe this turns into something that I want it to be. I envy you all who can smell all those pretty notes!
Edit: Tried this several times in warmer weather and no difference. Dry and woody scent without specific notes. Longevity was a bit better than in cold weather.

  20. :

    5 out of 5

This fragrance is very sweet. The notes here are a bit misleading. All I get from this is a sweet, fresh, floral. But a nice elegant floral. It’s not at all harsh to the nice. It’s soft and pretty. Smells like pretty petals and sweet pea.

BLV II is full of violet at the beginning. Violet is a note I turned up my nose at a few years ago, but I am developing an appreciation for it now. Along with anise, the violet makes for a softly dark opening. Good for days when I’m feeling pensive and a bright scent would be too jarring. On me, BLV II dries down to a spicy powder. The drydown is very similar to one of my all-time favorites, Omnia Crystalline. I believe shared musk and wood notes create this spicy powder effect.
BLV II is lovely. The rain has ended and the sun has set leaving a cold blue sky. I don’t have much blue in my rainbow of fragrances so I’m happy to add this to my collection.

I found this so safe and conservative when I first smelled it, I thought “Oh I should just use this bottle for my office job and finish it up”. So I did and now I find myself missing it. It shares some notes with Lolita Lempicka, which is a perennial favorite of mine. But although they are both powdery violet and licorice, Blu II is more transparent, simpler. Where Lolita Lempicka curls around you and wraps you in her magical forest spell, Blu II does no obvious witchcraft. Instead it greets you in a friendly pleasant way and then sits quietly on the skin. Blu II is like a romantic watercolor portrait of a snowy forest scene. If Lolita Lempicka is a fairytale dream you had, then Blu II is the faded memory of your dream as you go through the next morning. And I need it again, because it did bewitch me in some way.

Licorice note can be only loved or hated. It is not comfy safe one. personally I don`t like it, but what I really appreciate in this perfume is that Cavallier managed to combine notes that are actually irreconcilable. And the result is that you feel it is aquatic, fresh and creamy and velvet at the same time. A very interesting fume.

I can add this one in my collection, I just love it.
…Perfume is that something that very personal.
…The same way we fell in love with our boyfriend or husband, which we never interested …what other people thinks about him. 🙂

This is little more than powdery scented toilette water on me. Very disappointing as I smelled it years ago and thought it was so lovely then. Maybe it has been reformulated or maybe my taste has changed. Just sitting on my skin with no development, no character, no oomph, nothing. Sadly, another failed sample scent. At this rate I’ll have enough failed sample scents to open a sample store LOL!

    This is Lolita Lempicka Lite.
A friend gifted me a small bottle of BLU II and I thought it was all right, but a bit too light. I agree with the reviewer who likened it to sitting under a dryer vent and that warm musky soapy floral smell.
I decided to wear this my first day of work in a corporate office. It seemed classy yet safe. The other day I sniffed the empty bottle and it reminded me of those early days at a job I have come to love. I don’t know if I will purchase a bottle of this but it is a soft anise violet if you’re looking for something like Lolita Lempicka but more subtle.

  31. :

Licorice. One of my least favorite notes. I dislike this type of sweetness as it is so sultry!
I can’t like this scent even if I adore this bottle.

  32. :

I’m not at all a fan. This smells like bug spray on me- which is weird because I’ve never had a scent disagree with me. Maybe I’ll get lucky and it’ll become better the longer I wear it.

I never really cared for blue fragrances, but ran out of the former ones I experimented with, and most of them are difficult to get, thus I sampled Blv II on my wrist, and found it lovely. It wasn’t expensive either, at least in the shop I bought it in. After I brought it home, I found out from various websites that people find it similar to Lolita Lempicka EDP, one of my all-time favourites. I sprayed Blv II on one arm, and LL on the other, and found the similarity astonishing. It’s probably mainly the violet, the licorice and the anise, which they both have in common. Then later LL evolves to be richer, bolder, darker, more complex, and more bohemian, developing a smoke-like effect due to tobacco flower, and a more direct sweetness coming from vanilla and praline. Blv II, on the other hand, becomes lighter, more airy, aquatic, maybe more floral too, but it stays powdery and sweet, just like some anise-flavoured hard candy. I’m happy I can combine the two, because this way Lolita can be worn in the summer too. You can easily use LL in the evening after a day of wearing Blv II, they will blend in a beautiful way. LOVE!

This really is a mature woman’s scent. It’s quite complex, professional, serious and filthy rich. Soft and yet long lasting. It’s a love/hate scent

  35. :

On my skin it starts and finishes in anis. Almost cried when felt it on my wrist. Horrible, sorry.

  36. :

    5 out of 5

This was awful on me. It opens with overwhelming fruity and aquatic notes that remind me of every cheap shampoo on the market. I wish I could figure out what note causes that, because I’d love to be able to avoid it–it gives me a headache!
After the fruity/aquatic notes start to fade, I smell anise and licorice. It smells very generic to me; just like any other sweet/aquatic/gourmand scent from the last decade.
I didn’t get anything powdery, floral, or oriental from this one. And not even a hint of iris, which I normally love, and was what prompted me to try it. It’s definitely a unisex scent, and I can see where it would work very well for some men, but hopefully none of the men I spend time around!

Bvlgari has translated with this bottle and it’s design the resolute craft and demonstration of the art of mimickry. Such a beautifully crafted stopper in chrome with imitation studs somewhat reminiscent of the leather goods and saddlery of yesteryear. Up market and precise.
The Romans are such masters of fake and reproduction,, you have to hand it to them with this brands tradition in leather crafts translated to bottle design. The bottles that I own, I have two sizes in this fragrance both of which I paid bargain prices of 17. Aussie Dollars, from different stores, at different times. I own the 30 mill EDP and the 50 Mill EDP. I love this whilst it lasts. It is now over 100 Aussie dollars to purchase. So I was lucky to buy these last year for the prices I did. I know many of you don’t like to compare fragrances but this is a little like
Night Blooming Cereus’ which I love as a plant. This is also a little like Sarah Jessica Parker’s ‘Dawn’. EDP. ‘Born Wild’ by Christian Audigier also comes to mind. Love the Lilacy violet thing going on with this fragrance.
I feel like I have a little Bvlagari luxury when I spritz this
    Cheers T.

In one word: EXQUISITE! In many words: light, elegant, discrete, subtle, exhilarating, sophisticated, invigorating, wonderful! Definitely a case of “love at first spritz” for me. It doesn’t smell like anything else I ever tried. Makes me feel very unique and somewhat HAPPY when I wear it. Such an amazing one from Bvlgari. One of my signature scents from now on…

  39. :

    4 out of 5

I get aquatic notes on the first whiff. There’s also a certain sharpness (for lack of a better word. Sort of acidy but not potent..) and crispness to it once it starts to settle and the woods kick in. This to me, gives it a bit of a muscular feel. The powdery notes for some reason do not develop on my skin. In fact I’d say blv II is more spicy than it is floral. I don’t dislike it but I have to be sure to spritz on only a little otherwise it gets overwhelming. The silage is above average and the longevity is excellent.

  40. :

    3 out of 5

This is a wonderful fragrance for every day use. It is a pretty scent that is not overwhelming, yet it is not to be irgored. For the price, it is a steal.

  41. :

BLV Eau de Parfum II opens with a soft, yet tenacious ultraviolet, woody licorice note. Orange and musk seemingly add a gilded edge to this beauty that starts to exhale with soft powdered iris breath.
The base notes of resin and woods are not heavy but rather complement and amplify the character of the top and heart notes. BLV II is somewhat ethereal and presents a cool, gentle alien-like magnetism.
I find this quite extraordinary and utterly worthy of Jacques Cavallier.

  42. :

This was highly recommended to me on a Caribbean vacation at a duty free shop… Bvlgari II is an amazing suede and soft, buttery leather smell that’s perfect. The bvlgari perfume house is high quality, artistic perfume. The mini perfume travel collections are a fun introduction to this high quality line.

  43. :

    3 out of 5

I am surprised and disappointed, because every other Bvlgari perfume I have tried so far has been good. This one is not in my opinion.
It’s fresh, and way too boring. If you look at the notes it’s supposed to be sweet and strong. It’s not. Only a hint of sweetness.
Also, a bit masculine. And even the bottle looks lame.(not in this picture, though) Everything about it smells and looks like cheap perfume from supermarket.

  44. :

    4 out of 5

It smells good but its not special.

  45. :

    3 out of 5

This perfume sings to me. It’s beyond love! I have only recently begun to truly appreciate violet, and in BLV II the violet is sweet, cold, and spicy. Just gorgeous. The anise and licorice combination is sophisticated and addictive. BLV II is powdery throughout but more so in the drydown. As others have mentioned, the first hour is the best part of the fragrance. Very fresh and alive. The drydown is more comforting and quiet but still beautiful. Overall this perfume just works with my style and personality (my signature is Prada Infusion d’Iris) and I am sad it is discontinued…

  46. :

    3 out of 5

SOPHISTICATION in a bottle. Nothing overpowering but you will make your presence known. Gets me confident in a spray. You know a woman who is fun, confident, knows her way and can get her way but is true, calm and humble at the same time? Well, this perfume definitely describes that. It was my first expensive perfume and still manages to stay on top.

  47. :

    5 out of 5

    So disappointed.
I wanted this fragrance to work SO BAD. But apparently it is so not successful it is being phased out.
    Sadly.
The shower gel apparently has better sillage and power than the fragrance itself.
I am sad to say how badly I wanted this to work and it just failed…miserably.

  48. :

    4 out of 5

    Definitely not my style!

  49. :

    4 out of 5

I blind bought this because all of the scents listed were of interest to me, and I was looking for something that dried down powdery. Unfortunately, I just can’t love it. 🙁
The initial spray is quite sharp and just shy of synthetic. I get the licquorice and star anise more than anything else, and it’s definitely an oriental — if you like orientals, the first hour of this will be for you. Unfortunately I like my orientals more florientals, so I’m not fond of the initial spray.
The second hour is actually quite lovely. It dries down into that soft, powdery iris heart and is wonderful to smell kind of hovering around yourself. The sillage on this is very soft, but this is a great hour to go and give someone a hug and share the lingering warm, soft iris.
Unfortunately, by the third hour, this smoothness is gone. There’s something harsh about the finish that doesn’t seem to match what I expect out of vanilla and musk base notes. Fortunately the scent is nearly gone by this point, so I only get this if I bring my wrist up to my nose and inhale.
This might be for someone who wants a sharper scent. The packaging is quite elegant and the fragrance itself is a lovely translucent blue colour, so it’s very decorative. Unfortunately, it just wasn’t the sophisticated, powdery scent I was hoping for — more of a young, brash thing.

This perfume is amazing. Very soft and sophisticated. Found it yesterday at my local Ross and I had to get it! Happy with my purchase.

  51. :

I do like this. However. It’s staying power is zilch. More like a cologne. Albeit some colognes have better longevity. This scent definitely needs layering. I sprayed some on last night whilst catching a rom com. Timing it’s demise. Before classic Gene Tierney could kill herself, the scent had all but vanished. Sad as like many others who have reviewed this perfume here. I was typically excited by the idea and elegance and promise, expecting more. This needs a an extract to carry it through.

this smelled to me like cucumber, pepper and aquatic notes. smells quite sharp and masculine. something about it makes me gag. sorry bvlgari but this scent is not a good one for me.

  53. :

    3 out of 5

How does a fragrance smell of almost nothing?
Because I’ve owned and tried many fragrances containing iris, violet, benzoin, licorice and musk I don’t imagine I’m anosmic to this fragrance. It’s so strange.
It smells like standing outside behind an air conditioner or dryer vent. Warm air and a slight laundry detergent smell.

  54. :

    3 out of 5

I think I must be anosmic to this one. All I smell during the first hour on my skin is a cloying sweetness reminiscent of the general impression I get from Marc Jacobs Daisy. That’s not to say that I think the two perfumes are similar, but again that sweetness of Daisy is all that I seem to be able to detect with this Bulgari Fragrance for much of its development. I do like the way that it dries down on my skin after an hour or so, which is kind of too bad because I’m not willing to put up with most of the fragrance’s development.

  55. :

I don’t love this fragrance but I DO appreciate it. I like how this isn’t the traditional powdery scent, it has a certain freshness to it and I believe it’s from the oranges. It’s a nice, cooling sort of perfume. I would recommend this for spring and summer, definitely not for the colder months. Overall it is VERY unique and I’ve never smelled anything like it out there.

Very sweet candied violets, with some spice thrown in. The iris is blended very well and complements the violet note without overwhelming it. Quite balmy — it projects amazingly well for notes that are usually quiet florals. Would be good for violet fans who are looking for a bit more sillage than the note usually gives — it’s usually a bit of a shy flower but the resins and patchouli in the base really help it project. Only drawback is that it doesn’t last as long — pour femme from this line lasts better.

How this fragrance is not considered a hit in current fragrance market?
It’s quite unique oriental fragrance, one of those which creates a transparent scented cloud around you. It is subtle but very noticeable, i can smell it constantly on myself even i usually get immune to my fragrances really fast.
I would classify it as fresh ‘cleansed’ oriental with an unisex spicy edge. Well blended, but i feel that all the notes are still present. This fragrance is truly a signature material.
It slightly reminds me of Trussardi Jeans. Just be sure you get a bottle of fresh, original juice as i got to smell a very bad knockoff that smelled hideous.

I agree it’s light violet aquatic scent, with a lasting power on my skin 2-3 hours.

I can’t understand why so many people seems to dislike this one? I really enjoy this perfume. It’s a very nice, beutiful violet/auquatic perfume wich is great for summer.
On me it actually has great sillage and lasting power, absolutley lasts all day, I use to recive many complimants when I’m wearing this perfume. Since I’m a great violet lover I really like the soft violet here. It’s a cloud of beauty that follows you, not in your face at all.
On me it’s not very powdery. It’s a beutiful, fresh violet blended with a hint of anis and some (sour?)mandarin. You should defintley give this one a try.

This is quite watery to my nose, light and almost unisex, so not a winner for me. Some Bvlgari have that masculine vibe, when others are real feminine. The longevity is non existent, so I really can’t say much about this vague scent.
Only if you like pale skin scents.

What en experience Bvl II is for me! Unexpected delight. For me it is an aquatic floral with a spicy wood like cut cedar and a hint of slightly warm leather. Looking at the notes listed above, I can pick out the violet, anise, licorice, pachouli, amber and white flowers. It brings back fond memories of riding my horse through old growth cedar trees to a pond for a swim. The leather scent I detect is my oiled cowboy boots on the pond’s edge warmed to a soft spiciness in the hot sun. It is very light on me, just a faint cloud of scent and memories. Very nice! Good enough to purchase a full sized bottle.

I received Bvlgari Blu II as a gift when it just came out. It’s a very unique fragrance, and to me it’s all about violets and anis. I like the opening and the middle better than the fruity drydown.
This scent has a mysterious aura, and its kind of mellow and subtle. I don’t think it’s an oriental perfume, to me it’s more of a chypre. It’s not very feminine, at least not in a white flower bouquet kind of scent, it’s more toned down and almost unisex. But it’s still very enticing.
If there should be a “warm” perfumes versus a “cold” perfumes category, Blu II is definitly a “cold” perfume!…the color is absolutly fitting the fragrance in this case.
Not very long lasting, more of a skin scent after it settles.

I tested this fragrance tonight on a whim while testing other Bvlgari fragrances. This one totally took me by suprise. I had never read any reviews in it, had no idea what the notes were, and had no intention of buying it. After trying it on I couldn’t help myself – I just bought a bottle online for a great price.
I am suprised to see that there isn’t more citrus in the top notes beyond mandarin because the initial spray is very clean and sparkly – not too bright and not sharp in the slightest. It quickly takes on a smooth, creamy scent, slightly powdery which must be the violets. (I have discovered that sometimes violets really rub me the wrong way, but in this fragrance they must be balanced just right.) There is a slight woodiness that is anything but masculine, basically just a warm base. I think it is very interesting that this is classified as an oriental floral – it doesn’t have any of the characteristics that I would normally associate with orientals; it isn’t spicy in the slightest on me. Furthermore, the “amber nuances” that are supposed to be in the base are hardly there.
Overall this is a fresh, balanced perfume. The only downfall is that it really doesn’t last on the skin for very long. After a couple of hours the one spray I tested on my skin has become almost completely absent to my nose. It is so beautiful, though, that I am willing to trade lasting power for the amazing fragrance. Plus, my sister who was shopping with me said it smelled like me right away – a definite plus :).
UPDATE: after wearing this for a while, I have decided that there is something in the base that I am not overly fond of… lately it has been turning strangely sweet on me… I still like it, but I don’t know if I will be able to finish the large bottle I bought.

powdery+sour+sweet, I must say the combination of powdery and fruit notes are the least for my liking…
