Some days really call for Black Spruce, whether its coolness or warmth that you are craving. I don’t feel like a goblin when I wear it, I feel like a gypsy. Nor do I feel it’s overtly masculine – it’s outdoorsy. I wear this, like most other perfumes, for me, not for others.

This woody deep but airy spread is integrated with nature. Especially it would match to wearing the natural colored clothing with winter season. When I wore the scent for a first time, I felt warmness of Agarwood, softness of Olibanum, deepness of Black Spruce, floaty Sandalwood and a little of dignified rose. Black Spruce strengthens our spirit, slowly gives a sense of satisfaction and quietly enhances vitality.

I wear Black Spruce a lot. It truly does have a majesty all it’s own. My partner also likes to smell it around the place. It leaves a trail and he knows where I am.
I am transported back to horse trekking in the Canadian rockies by that black spruce smell – I JUST CANT BELIEVE IT ! Brushing past the prickly spruce and crushing its bark underfoot – waking in log cabins to the snow tipped breeze blowing down from the mountains, or laying back in thermal rock pools looking up the steep sides of the pine-clad valley to a clear blue distant sky, then plunging into the ice-melt stream, the air just completely laden with spruce spruce spruce..and sultry amber resins.
Then huckleberry pancakes with maple syrup and bacon.
That is the smell of Canada. And lumberjacks, and they’re OK.
It’s my ready for anything scent, bracing and grounding, and adds a fresh intrigue to night liaisons.

This was a blind buy for me (pure parfum oil), the second from this house. And it was no mistake. This is a beautifully crafted, and superbly balanced fragrance.
Spruce, birch tar, and olibanum project on opening, clean, classy and refined. These notes yield quite quickly to the gentler resins and amyris, but they remain, their presence aloof but ever felt for the duration of the wear time. Rose makes her appearance known, blooming through the top and heart, but she soon settles to a soft, supporting floral accord. There is a very light touch of oud that offers a supporting, yet not dominant, woody note, and an almost casual glance at oakmoss that brings a cool, nearly apathetic, but still sophisticated, refined, composure to this fragrance.
The sandalwood, rose and amyris beautifully and gently tempers the spruce, birch tar and frankincense, to produce a sweet, nondescript floral vanilla accord in the drydown. The whole composition yields to become a beautiful, androgynous, fragrance with a distinct sense of class, that anyone could wear.
Amazing longevity, with moderate sillage, this is highly worthy of full bottle purchase!

Oh fillifelle – what an adorable and fabulous review!! Such a pleasure, and fun to read!! Gosh. I love this perfume, and yes, it is definitely more masculine than feminine, but it’s fabulous! It is gorgeous on my husband! I love smelling it on him, and on me it’s good, but not as perfect. Well, I say that, but I really love it on me!!! Nevertheless, it’s such a high quality perfume, as are all from this wonderful house. Every note is divine. Rich and natural smelling. It’s such a beautiful blend of everything. Scrumptious and heavenly! Wonderful and perfect sillage and longevity too. Perfection!!!

This will smell devastating on a man. When I was considering purchasing Black Spruce (based on the notes, primarily for the oud), Teone asked me whether I was sure I wanted to wear goblin perfume. I’m Glad I did. If goblins smell like that, I will run away into the woods with one and breed little goblin children.
This is a more masculine fragrance but like most good niche perfumes, it straddles the gender divide. I have a personal weakness for fragrances that tend towards the more masculine side of the spectrum anyway. In fact Black Spruce smells like a cross between Amouage’s Honour Man and Epic Man, both of which I’ve worn in public with aplomb.
Birch tar lends it an unshaven virility while the oud and sandalwood come into play to give it overall class and refinement. A hint of oakmoss offers fougere – like nonchalance. Frankincense and Spruce suggests that the said unshaven man might occasionally lumber into the forest to chop wood and make a fire with his bare hands.
If I can’t find a goblin to offer myself to, I’ll settle for smelling like I’ve come very close to one.
This and Embers are my favourites from this house. And among my favourites across all the perfumes I’ve ever tried and own.

I’m definitely an amateur and a newbie, so forgive the lack of finesse in this review. I’m extremely impressed by the highly individual and intense character of this wonderful product.

Decided to branch out and expand from your average store purchased perfume, and was given a sample of this perfume. I’ve already seen an immediate result. Wore it to work tonight, and all my coworkers were shocked that it was me wearing the perfume (not sure whether to be offended or pleased…?) Needless to say I received compliments all shift. Would recommend.
