Wow. This is definitely the most impressive of the HAUTE collection. The sandalwood is strong, genuine, and honeyed (like the Hawaiian kind), matched with fresh juicy rose that turns dusty with the aid of cumin. It has a Middle Eastern vibe (smells exactly like Jam-e-Shirin from Pakistan, made out of sandalwood, Damask rose, lithops “stone flower”, screwpine, and vetiver), but also like an Indian incense stick.
*If you want the frosted bottle, go for it now, but the new [Core Range] clear bottle is $70 cheaper

Ohh its delicious! it smells like dark coffee to me, almost sweet and chocolatey, with a splash of milk.. it has clean, smooth notes.
On my skin I get mostly sandalwood, but its a very pure and addictive sandalwood, so clean and intoxicating, then I get black pepper but its not hot or spicy.. just black :/
I don’t really get any rose at all on my skin but I do notice it on the card, all the notes are dectetable on the card but very well blended and balanced, nothing overpowers.
Very good longevity and decent sillage.

Tried this after putting my hand in my sample bag and randomly picking this one. All I can smell is soap. It is a rose scented soap maybe but still soap none the less. Will take a pass on this one.
(It is several hours later and it still smells like soap on my skin. There are better roses).

Depressing if you seek rose, a disappointment if you seek dark rose but a possible winner if you’re just here for the ride. Advertised as a gloomy rose but the opening is dominated by a laundry detergent like saffron note. Although the saffron is visible, the composition never gets too leathery. The woody sabulous moments proves to be overbearing which in turn smothers any resemblance of rose. Not the menacing rose that I hoped for; In the end, Black Rose demonstrate that of a fake tough guy. Probably the most non rosey fragrance on the market advertised as rose.
Update: This isn’t as bad as I originally thought. Projection is out of this world. The rose is definitely there. My stance still doesn’t change on this frag being a fake tough guy. I’ve smelled dark rose and this isn’t it.

This rose is indeed dark! It is a lovely blend of woods, roses and olibanum., with a hint of the saffron and black pepper. It is easy to wear..neither heavy nor light. Perfect for a winter, cool spring or fall day. Somehow it manages to be elegantly seductive with the rose notes and spicy and fresh at the same time. It is an excellent and well-made fragrance from a very talented perfumer from an exciting niche house. While a bit too masculine for my girly rosy taste, those who enjoy a darker, spicier, exciting rose will be thrilled.

It’s dusk. The sky is a panorama of oranges and pinks, the skyline punctuated by minarets and other timeless buildings. Frogs and insects of unknown genus form an orchestra of the euphony of evenings in warmer climes. Carved wooden fixtures and fittings which have been baking slowly in the day’s heat writhe back to sleep, voile veils and curtains billow in the gentle breeze. Candied dried fruits grace the table, decorative swords hang on the walls and catching the light they glisten like jewels, like the stars reflecting in the water as I look out across the bay as night draws in.

Smells like a decaying rose bouquet.
