Description

Bergamot is described as an energizing gender-neutral scent of bright, green notes and stark citruses; fresh, yet sophisticated.

“I love citrus, I love its freshness; it is addictive in an energizing way. A superior quality Italian bergamot was my starting point with this fragrance. Its slightly unripe citrus notes are much more alive, like a vilifying refreshing tonic that awakens the soul.” – Stephen Nilsen.

Top: Italian Bergamot, Brazilian Green Mandarin Oil, Clementine Oil. Heart: Jasmin Sambac Absolute, Moroccan Spearmint Oil, Egyptian Geranium Oil. Base: Patchouli Oil, Vetiver Oil, Blonde Musks, Violet Leaves.

Available as a 10 and a 100 ml Eau de Parfum.
Bergamot was launched in 2017.

    Bergamot by Commodity
    Reviewed from 10ml travel sprayer
Summary: a fragrance that effectively uses a citrusy theme for something darker and more charismatic than the usual summery, bright blasts of freshness
Commodity’s Bergamot opens with the same sterile and blandly citrusy bergamot note present in most citrus-forward scents available commercially. Within a very short time, however, it dries down into something much heavier and more evenly balanced where the titular bergamot stands back and in harmony with its surrounding notes. The effect at this point and for the rest of its duration is one of bold darkness and masculinity, one that suits autumn and winter evenings more aptly than the summery brightness of common neroli and mandarin-based fragrances. Also, it does not ride the freshness theme the majority of citrusy scents do – while it is a fresh scent, the freshness comes from its cold demeanor. Bergamot is a scent for someone self-assured, someone occupied; it is not seductive or something very suitable for date night.
Technical: Bergamot is not terribly long-lasting and never has a monstrous projection but is pleasantly assertive for about three hours on skin. The opening, as mentioned, is very typical of bergamot-based perfumes but balances out very quickly as the initial citruses burn off.
Colors evoked: a shiny, dark purple and green surface, the two colors swirling together in a hard marbling.
Musical accompaniment: George Michael – “Older;” Mega Drive – “NARC;” Osvaldo Fresedo – “Plegaria;” Portishead – “Numb”
Timing: very versatile and not out of place in any season or time of day although it does conjure a serious, nocturnal and cold vibe in its full drydown stage

I’ve got a sample from Sephora. I actually like the fragrance more than I expected. It’s not complicated yet it’s not simple either. Well balanced, I would say. Mature freshness)) Fresh, grassy, with subtle drydown. I enjoyed all stages of this scent from the beginning to the very end. I can see it can be layered with other parfumes easily. It is something to wear everyday and feel fresh and energized.

This is a very pleasant citrus fragrance, and it’s not teenage-y like most of the citrus class scents.
    Clementine is beautiful here.

I love the sparkly citrusy bergamot opening..sweet girly and fresh! I am less keen on the drydown, however, as the vetiver really comes to the fore and makes it a more masculine scent than I like. This is really my issue with so many ‘unisex’ scents out there right now: either the opening or the drydown is distinctly floral or brisk, leaving it unbalanced overall, reading too girly for most men, and too burly for most ladies, or perhaps even more than than, it lacks an idea of what it even wants to be as whole.

Unisex scent. Strong bergamot initially, as expected. Dries into spicy grandmotherly orange floral within 30m, then musk. This was long-lasting for me at 12+ hours.

This is beautifully unisex and doesn’t smell like perfume, it’s so natural.
I get a sparkling delicious citrus, kind of like citrus soda in the best way. It’s not sweet but not totally dry either, kind of like a Granny Smith apple. It’s absolutely delicious and then fades into almost violet mixed with fresh cut grass. This would be the perfect office/interview scent. It makes me feel strong and confident, yet it’s so inoffensive and doesn’t smell “perfumey”. Absolutely love it but it’s so expensive :,(

This is very nice and 95% zingy bergamot for first 15 minutes. When the top burns off the mandarin, mint and jasmin come out to play a bit. Dry down hits and I get a nice sandalwood, patchouli and vetivert note.
This one is all about the green bergamot, and woody drydown, very uplifting and energising, then calming and grounding – very unisex. Is it stunning or a must have? No. I got this as a sample, and it was fun but time to try another green woody citrus.

I think it love it. I didn’t expect to but it’s surprisingly good. It’s a plant-y citrus kinda similar to Cartier Zeste de Soliel, which I do already have. Must be the combination of orange and mint. Maybe I should be so surprised that i like this so much. Compared to Moss, this is less sweet, much more distinctly orange and more distinct green smells of mint and patchouli

Scent – bergamot & violet leaf.
Season/Time of Day – I prefer to use this one in the warmer months, during the day.
    Projection – I didn’t get noticed, I didn’t get a compliment.
    Longevity – I get 6hrs consistently.

Superb expensive ingredients from all over the world. One of the most luxurious bergamot scents I’ve ever experienced. However, even the finest citrus cannot escape it’s naturally unstable chemical structure. Thus, this beautiful citrus is short-lived, almost fleeting, followed by a grassy vetiver and light florals. The end result is a lesser version of Terre d’Hermes. At $135 per 100ml, it’s a “No” beyond the occasional free sample from sephora.
