Smells exactly like Johnson and Johnson’s baby oil. I like it for bedtime, straight from the shower. Very cosy and nostalgic.
groomogma – :
I certainly misread or misunderstood that EDT description!
For some obscure reasons, I stubbornly clung to the idea that Baby Powder would be a tender, milky, musky heaven.
If I knew that stuff was essentially, talcum powder, I wouldn’t have purchased it for sure.
Never in my mind, was talcum powder associated with adorable babies, bless them.
Talcum smells musty and mouldy to me. Not like something to be patted on skin!
When used for absorbing humidity and bad odors in shoes, their insides just smell even worse.
Imagine some dirty, damp clothing that’s been shut in a closet for too long.
Aaarrrgghhh
Back to the EDT. It’s not THAT bad, actually.
But the addition of almond essence – the bakery kind – is distasteful, really.
Florals are overwhelmed by sweetness that’s completely out of place.
Plus, that EDT retains the talcum properties I so loathe in its powder form.
That phenomenon is quite incredible, while I’m thinking about it!
So, I can’t wear it on its own. However, it works very well when mixed with the following frags!
Those 6 delicate, discreet frags date back from the time I was very prone to perfume-induced headaches.
Most of them being baby-friendly (no alcohol) or conveying skin-scents:
L’Erbolario – Il Profumo dei piccoli
Biolane – EDT Fraîcheur
Demeter (Library of Fragrance):
Clean Skin
Pure Soap
Orange Blossom
Musk Number 7
All that stuff is very weak and simple, Baby Powder included, so layering gives some extra interest, albeit not much depth.

I love baby powder. I wore it for fragrance when I was younger. That being said, this smells off. It is both too sweet and too bitter, like it has a cheap marzipan/almond note. It smells like baby doll head and wipes trying to be powdered
aleksiak – :
Eek, this is baby powder with a hard smack at first. I disliked it so much I didn’t wait for it to get softer/better, I just left it on the naughty step and ran away, sorry.
lenovo – :
this is my first demeter fragrance and i have to say, i really like it.it smells just like a clean baby and the dry down is slightly musky, but a clean musk, while still maintaining the powdery smell.i don’t detect any flowers in this one.i like it, it’s a sweet, clean, straight-up baby powder scent and it lasts maybe 4-5h on my skin, which is not bad at all for a cologne spray
moguty – :
Not at all like a baby powder although it smells like when you – not the baby- has the Johnson & Johnson Body Lotion and it dries down to that powdery scent. It’s sweet and floral with powdery rose like talc powder with a little rose scent or sachets to scent drawers closets and wardrobes. I can see how it matches up with baby powder because it is so soft, delicate and ephemeral like actual powder you put on the baby’s bottom. The scent has a sweetness that sits close to the skin and it’s just so pretty and enjoyable as a soothing boudoir scent. I wear it with lingerie and to bed to relax and get me to sleep. I don’t think this is meant to be worn out in public or for anyone to actually smell it on you. It’s for your own pleasure. It’s like smelling of smooth sweet baby bottom – clean bottom of course.
sourlTootoVob – :
In the Uk this is known under the brand name of “The Library of Fragrance”. I have always loved the smell of baby powder and this is very true to the scent I most associate with that which is the Johnson and Johnson Baby Powder. It is a cologne spray so does not last too long on the skin but I love the blast of nostalgia it gives. I would not wear this for a date but it is perfect for a spring day, totally inoffensive if that is your mood. If you want to be noticed, choose something else! I have the 30ml bottle and I am rapidly getting through it and it may be one I replace. If you like to use linen sprays or room sprays (which I don’t) this would be a good choice. Words I would use to describe this fragrance are : powdery, nostalgic, clean, light, soapy, fresh, young, calming and comforting. I like to catergorise my fragrances, even though I believe you should wear what you want when you want, I would describe this as spring and daytime. Not a love but a definite like!
msi64 – :
While the unmistakable scent of talcum powder dominates, there is a definite gourmand note for me; something like marzipan or peachy persipan. Certainly a must-have for Goth lovers of baby powder who don’t want to mark up their dark cloaks. A gentle sent with gentle sillage to match. This is as pure, clean, and innocent as the Virgin Mary.
leon1809 – :
spot on baby powder scent, safe blind buy.
YUres37COol – :
It smells like baby powder no doubt about it. It’s cozy and fresh and clean smelling. Nice to wear when you’re feeling under the weather or just want to cozy down under the blankets. Unless I layered this with something with more depth I doubt I’d wear it out and about. But who knows? Maybe on a cold damp day? It might lift the spirits.
herringboness – :
It smells exacly like baby oil for babies bodies. Not my type of fragrance. If i would like to smell like this , would buy any baby oil this is cheap.
Cheaper than this product for sure.
ljf571speagoessenda – :
I like this fragrance, but I can’t wear it. Smells nice and closely resembles Baby Powder, but after a while I get tired of the scent. I guess what I’m saying is I just don’t wanna smell like it all day. But nice non-offensive scent overall.
Butikov – :
The opening is more like Johnsons baby wipes than powder and its smells kinda dirty to me… maybe because of I cant help associating baby wipes with dirty nappies ;(
anyway it dries down to a velvety soft sweet powder that’s quite nice and vanillary but still that hint of dirtiness is there.. so I wouldn’t buy it for that reason
koks233 – :
I love the smell of baby powder, despite it being so hated for some ungodly reason. Baby powder is comforting and clean. Demeter’s is very nice, especially. Comforting, fresh, clean, light, smells like a cherub’s head.
Ксана – :
I absolutely adore this fragrance. I work directly with the public, and this is perfect to wear to work. It makes me feel “clean”. It smells like Johnson & Johnson baby powder. It’s not something I’d recommend for a night on the town, unless it was combined with a more intriguing scent.
Alehaha – :
The ‘comfort food’ of fragrances. Pure baby powder, nothing more or less. Maybe not for a night out on the town, but perfect for a night in.
ShIfsleilani – :
I plan to try this one due to the many reviews saying it’s so clean & comforting .
If I’m reading some reviews right ….. It’s a possible ” skip a shower ” today spray (???)
Although no one came out & said that ….. I will . When it comes to clean fresh soothing soft soapy powder ” just showered ” scents …. I’m there . And most i pull it off very well . There are those mornings , you hit snooze for a good 45 mins , or it was a late night , maybe it’s just to damn cold to shower . So we reach for what could pull off that just showered smell . I am the queen of this & I’m proud of it 🙂 so I will try this & add it to my list of smelling
Clean & fresh tricks . Funny I get more compliments when I use my tricks then I actually put effort into my perfume of the day . Anyway I look forward to trying this one .
konel1984 – :
The opening is pretty sickly, but as it mellows I get the baby powder scent, pretty nice and mellow, especially after the disgust of their fireplace fragrance. Lasted about 4 hours.
zpr099intitytek – :
I’ve not tried this perfume yet but I do have a large bottle of J&J Baby Powder which I use regularly. Am I alone? how many of you here use Baby Powder? Do you prefer the scent of the actual poweder?
Naipleplema – :
I really like this scent, most Demeter fragrances don’t last, this one last’s the longest on me. It’s a soft, cozy scent, layers well with other scents.I have been wearing this with Delicious Vanilla, Cherry Vanilla and sometimes with Loves Baby Soft. One of my favorites from this line.
INSPEKTOR – :
I love this, I woke up with a cold this morning and after taking all the usual remedies I reached for this. Instant feeling of comfort and coziness, sat here all wrapped up in my pj’s, big fluffy robe and “Demeter baby powder”. Feeling better already!
Vel75 – :
It smells very similar to J&J baby powder compared to many of the ‘baby powder’ type fragrances.
Unfortunately this gave me such a terrible headache due to the synthetic notes.
cem507elipseskism – :
Smells just like baby powder – but like a concentrated, potent baby powder. It’s really nice. It has a dry powdery smell and it stays on for quite awhile.
owl – :
I see many people mention ‘plastic’ niche lingering through the scent. Indeed there is though as a matter of fact that’s how baby powder smells. Bit plasticky. Nice for everyday wear and tear.
vladimir_2706 – :
A soothing comfort scent to spritz when calmness is needed. Can quickly become a powder bomb if you apply too much.
Zzener – :
Not a perfume for a date, or an executive meeting, but let me tell you: I had surgery yesterday, and have had to spend the past two days in bed. My husband just changed the bedclothes, and I have just had a bath, used a moisturising oil, sprayed the Demeter Baby Powder and slipped in between the clean sheets. I can’t begin to tell you how soothing it feels.
It’s cold and windy outside, but I feel snug and safe. 🙂
This is a cologne, not a perfume. So sillage and staying-power are not this fragrance’s strong points.
Starts out slightly sharp, but settles into a sweet baby powder smell: a soft powdery, creamy almond, with the teensiest hint of white musk. Not exactly the same as baby powder, but similar.
Best applied over an oily moisturiser, to make it last as long as possible.
Could possibly be used as a linen and/or bed spray.
Fedspseup – :
I always like baby powder smell! it’s just sweet ,innocent and cute. Since I’m in the college where almost nobody in my class wear any fragrance, this one doesn’t make me feel ‘overdressed’.
I also have Demeter Clean Soap.I use these two when I want people to think I naturally smell good with something that isn’t perfume?.lol They do the trick.
2,34E+12 – :
It smells just like baby powder but it is not long lasting and it has a strange note that i cannot understand why it discomforts me. I would not buy it again.
ryn420bedyWelty – :
Johnsons baby powder in a bottle, calming, clean and soft, lasts much more than i expected, i bought it for my little daughter, but i sometimes spray it just before bed:))
pozitiv – :
Today I have “Baby Powder-day”.:)
I purchase this blindly few years ago, because of the name, and I didn’t regret it at all.You got what the name suggest:pure baby powder smell.
Sweet memories come to my mind, when I helped for my mom to take care of my li’l sister and later my li’l brother.I clearly remember of this scent around them, it was very comforting and innocent..curious touches of small baby hands..:) This Demeter fragrance is about that:)..Uncomplicated,gentle ,soft, warm and heart-warming.
Simple, lovely little scent. The beauty lies in it’s simplicity.:)
traforet – :
I bought some of this online and received it today.
I’ve always remembered the baby powder deoderant that an American college friend gave me many years ago and have looked for one since but never been able to find one to buy.
So I bought this.
Sadly, I don’t think the baby powder smell really translates well from powder to liquid. This just smells too chemically to me.
Turisstas – :
This is the most true play-doh scent I’ve tried, it really has the same vanillic artificial scent. I don’t get the baby powder connection that much.
AspiliWal – :
It’s nice….smells like baby powder. As a Mother, I have to sometimes mentally separate my association of baby powder with baby poop. This,of course, doesn’t smell like poop but you probably get my drift. It’s soft and innocent and I think it would be nice to layer. Demeter fragrances don’t seem to have great staying power in my experience but they are fun, simple and relatively affordable.Safe, uncomplicated, inoffensive.
TenCze – :
This would make a nice air freshener, but a perfume? I dont think so.
While it is true to the smell of baby powder, so is actual babypowerder, plus real baby powder is a hell of alot cheaper and lasts a helll of alot longer… so why by this? lol, I don’t get it.
Now if you are someone that loves perfume that has a baby powder finish, but that actually smells like perfume and lasts like a perfume should if you dont mind just a touch of fruit (which in the drydown, really smells like a sort of barely spicey baby powder).. I’d recoomend Keiko Mecheri’s ‘Loukhum poudre’ edp
JoshuaBB5 – :
One of my fave demeters they are nice fragrances but some are real mistakes i.e. Lime !!! (What a wierd base note that has, not what I hoped for at all)
This however is soft simple and a lovely bedtime (Sleepy time) 🙂 perfume not really any lasting power though
IHWilmopoliv – :
I’ve had Demeter’s Baby Powder before and wasn’t too impressed, but picked it up again recently at Rite-Aid for $4.99…and am LOVING it! I guess I need a break from trying to find a perfect, unique scent from the “sophisticated” selections. They bore or repulse me after a short while, and I crave one of my back-to-basics girly fragrances like Body Fantasies Vanilla Fantasy or Victoria’s Secret Amber Romance. My first perfume love was Love’s Baby Soft, so I guess Demeter’s Baby Powder brings me home in a way.
As Ikell pointed out, this one is perfect for blending with other favorites. And it’s wonderful sprayed in the hair! Reaction to this one on me so far is simply “You smell so good!”, not “You smell like Johnson’s Baby Powder.” This is one of those scents that I identify with as being a signature scent…it smells like ME. I don’t feel like an imposter wearing it the way I do with many perfumes I’ve impulse-bought (and which smell wonderful on OTHERS)I stopped by Rite-Aid and bought a 2nd bottle, though it had gone up to $8.99…still a fraction of what I’ve spent on most perfumes!
ds.alexandr – :
Soft, sweet, cute, gentle, and light, plus soft.It reminds me of a baby sleeping peacefully at a critter.I would where this when it is quiet and peaceful, probably in the mornings.Natural baby powder,or maybe….. baby butt…
brabus-sti – :
Yup, smells exactly like Johnson’s Baby powder. I love it for when I need to be “babied” or when I want to be a little nicer to others. 🙂 Not great staying power, but the Demeters are like that – you buy them for what it says on the bottle, a “pick-me-up cologne.”
Zekimilmgeami – :
Man, this is perfect for a simple summer day. I think it would compliment many other perfumes, if you like to layer them.
lsn484speagoessenda – :
Ok, it smells EXACTLY what it’s supposed to smell like. Johnson & Johnson Baby Powder. The lasting power isn’t THAT bad. It’s nice, if you want to smell like a baby 🙂
