Wearing Attar de Roses is like stepping beneath a perfect rainfall of pristine rose petals. The whole composition smells natural and beautiful, like fresh red roses and red berries warmed up and sweetened in the sun. I wish I could detect more leather, however there is a hint of spiciness that brings some contrast to the sweet jam-like scent of the roses and fruit. Truly, this is one of the best rose perfumes I have ever smelled.
Despite its beauty, Keiko Mecheri’s creation is too perfectly coiffed and manicured for my low maintenance nature. It is the scent of rose stripped of all of its imperfections, leaving behind only the most flawless and immaculate parts of its essence. As for myself, I prefer my roses slightly dirty and whole, with finger-pricking thorns, green leaves and dirt still clinging to its stems. I still admire Attar though, and hope to one day become the type of person who can pull it off.

I was given a sample of this recently and I kinda wonder if I got the right one? This was a beautiful creamy jasmine all day and nothing else.
Edit: I wore it again and sniffed a little closer. I think I can detect the rose, but it’s there for about a minute before it fades away.

I love rose perfumes and have tested and bought quite a lot, and this is one of my favorites. It’s sweet and spicy yet smooth and creamy. A lovely rose that is very versatile for season and occasion. I would say this is fbw as one would get so much wear out of it. A charming beauty.

Earlier this week, I tried out Eau Rose Diptyque. Attar de Roses gives me the sense of a spicer rose, maybe boozy berries at first whiff. I really like this. ERD is a sweet, light rose, the actual rose whiff from the garden. Attar de Roses is a spicer sister, more ‘there’. More like a perfume to me. It’s expensive and I’m running on a sample I’ll have to make a decision soon 🙂

This is a rich, dark red, wine-sodden rose on my skin. Similar in a way to La Fille de Berlin, but a little less “in your face.” It is a beautifully blended, warm rose, with no obvious hint of spice to my nose. Longevity is excellent…this is still going strong at 1830, having been applied at 0700. It is the perfect companion to a long winter walk, and all the way I could smell it wafting up from the neck of my coat. Beautiful.
I find it pretty linear and do not get much of the woody notes, although there was an early stage when I thought I smelled them briefly. Amber I smell only as an adjunct to the rose, warming it and giving it a slightly resinous edge at times. Now, almost 12 hours after application, the drydown is showing me jasmine peeping through the rose, but the rose is still hanging on.
This is a lovely winter perfume. It would be a good evening one also, but I think I might choose La Fille de Berlin with her big personality, for that. Attar de Roses is more friendly, perhaps, and more suited to a normal day, with whatever it brings. Probably more of a winter ‘fume, but on a chilly spring or early summer day it could be just what one needs. Very versatile.

This is the first rose perfume I’ve tested on skin — not because I’m new to fragrances, but because it’s not a note I gravitated towards. Something tells me, Attar de Roses is the creme-de-la-creme of the genre, and this will be a tough act to follow.
A transparent-ethereal subtle rose. It wears close, which may be a seasonal thing. (It’s currently bordering winter, and low-humidity). Definitely worth re-testing in spring.

Jammy roses are always so impossibly good. This is Serge Lutens La Fille de Berlin-level rain of candied rose petals raspberry jam soft fluffy pink motherly love clouds awesomeness, if you forgive my stream of consciousness tirade. It’s a love.

Jammy rose perfection. I am obsessive about rose and the majority of my collection contains rose, with 75% of them being rose dominant, and this is one of the best in my entire collection. If you are looking for a natural smelling, fruity, jammy, sweet deep pink to red rose, this is near perfection.

No leather here, nothing extravagant, but beautiful, natural smelling ROSE. Unlike in majority of niche-made-roses nowadays,- ambroxan and molecules full stop, Keiko Mecheri Attar proudly presents silky, tender and sweet ambery Taif rose, so aromatic and easy to wear and not get tired, healing and charming. Despite I Am not hugely amused, I am soothed and happy, from start to finish, wearing such interpretation of rose. High chances I will go for FB as well, nicely done.

Attar de Roses is a beautiful fragrance. This juice begins with fruity top notes and sweet roses. The flowers here are reddened by a gorgeous raspberry note. This is neither a tart berry nor a juicy one. It’s well blended and smoothly gets absorbed and dominated by the rose after about 10 minutes. Going by the note pyramid, I’d expect this to be a floriental. But if I had to guess by the ambitious name, this should be a painstakingly constructed, natural rose soliflore. At least on *my* skin, it is neither. During the heart phase, there is a lovely red rose note sweetened by the raspberries and rounded by a whisper of violets. After an hour or so this combination gives off a distinct lipstick vibe. It passed the overnight test by staying on me for 12+ hours. However, for an EDP the projection is very poor. Nobody could smell it on me unless they stuck their nose on my wrist even though I’d just doused myself with it. I sensed no other notes; however, there was some very faint amber in the dry down at around the 10 hour mark.
I grew up in a part of the world where men and women regularly wear attar of roses. I’m extremely familiar with the scent of it. The nose behind this juice is Yann Vasnier, a man who certainly knows his way around floral creations. Take a sniff of some of his work such as MJ Lola or TF Velvet Orchid as shining examples of his mastery of this genre! While Mr. Vasnier’s impression of attar of roses might be a fruity/sweet one with other flowers in the supporting role, in the strictest sense, it’s basically nothing but distillation of one or more types of roses. No other invasions should be in a perfume named “attar of roses” but the single note of fresh rose petals. I’d classify this as a classy, regal fruity floral with a dominating rose note. While I’d love to add it to my collection, $140 for a full bottle cannot be justified on my tight budget. :o/ Not when it cannot be smelled by me or anyone else unless they invaded my personal space and glued their nose on my skin. That being said, those of you who are looking for a quiet, unobtrusive floral, you need to give this delicate creation a try. 🙂

Attar is fresh roses gently sweetened by amber. There’s just the faintest hint of woods and a delicate touch of leather, barely detectable, to ground it. It’s fresh, but not in a watery or aquatic way like Cartier’s Goutte de Rose. This is a good rose for summer.
It’s not in the notes but I sense musk, or something that behaves like musk, and it’s just a hair too soapy for my taste, though it’s not nearly as soapy as Keiko Mecheri’s Mogador. Also, the longevity is poor. I haven’t gotten it to last past 4-5 hours even on freshly moisturized skin. I tested it for the second time today and by the 5 hour mark or thereabouts, my co-worker could only smell it if she literally pressed her nose to my skin.
I like it. I could have almost loved it.

  13. :

Love at first sniff. Delicious candied rose petals but not sickeningly sweet. A hint of leather balances this, but this is just a hint of smooth well worn leather ; nothing harsh here. I also get some sort of edible berry note hinting at very ripe perfumed Autumn raspberries. Drydown is a little more candy powdery but still pink roses through it all. longevity is also good. Fantastic.

If you’re looking for a rich, yet pretty rose this is one you have to try!
I’d describe it as a richly pink, fully opened rose, at its most fresh
I’m always on the lookout for a Turkish-Delight style rose, but all the loukoum perfumes don’t do it for me because they seem to smell very sweet and more nutty than rosey to my nose.
I tried Traversee du Bosphore, which is lovely – a really nice take on a sweet gourmand scent, it reminds me of nougat with rice paper, but again, I didn’t really get Turkish Delight.
I almost find what I’m looking for in Attar de Roses, but it’s not a gourmand, though it does have that transluscent (sort of gelatinous) sweet but-not-too-sweet rose scent. It’s quite light, but it does last 4 plus hours, and it has depth. For example it makes Bulgari’s Rose Essentielle feel very ‘thin’ – like rose water sprayed onto pink tissues.
I just have a decant of Attar de Roses, not a spray, but I’m sure it would be stronger sprayed.
This, and Lutens Fille de Berlin are my favourite roses so far. (Attar de Roses is prettier and lighter – not so characterful perhaps). I’ve also tried Tauer’s Rose Flash, which is an ambery, rich sweet rose, more like slightly over-cooked jam that’s singed slightly to the side of the pot during cooking.
And I’ve tried Malle’s Un Rose too, which is very authentic, fresh rose, but on some people (including me) becomes a bit intense, slightly aggressive – I definitely get the geranium notes, it’s almost oily, and more unisex.
When I wear Attar de Roses, I feel steeped in the healing properties of rose – soothing, gentle, balancing; a tranquil rose garden exuding scent just as the sun’s first rays begin to warm the dewy petals!
It’s not complex, seductive or intriguing, I don’t get much amber or leather (though I think leather here might be tempering any wishy washy sweetness, and amber must lend depth and longevity) it’s simply one of the loveliest rose perfumes you’re likely to experience

I hoped for a beautiful rose scent, but it’s a complete old fashioned soft powderbomb!! Nothing special.
No violets are listed but in the drydown it smells a bit like violets too.
    Very disappointed!

I’m obsessed with Attar de Roses. On my skin it starts out smelling like a mix of roses and unsweetened warm blackberry jam, then a stunning uber-femme leather note emerges. Finally I get a fantastic fruity, rosey, leathery amber gris dry down. It’s incredibly luxe and luscious.
Regarding the specific rose note in this fragrance: it seems like a blend of a softly fruity/berry-tinged rose and citric taifi, Attar de Roses features an edible rose, though almost paradoxically it is not very sweet. Also there is no powder here, and certainly no stems and thorns. Elsewhere another reviewer referred to it as “an almost drinkable rose” and I whole-heartedly agree with that description.
Truly beautiful. One my all time favorites.

KM Attar de Roses is a rich, sweet, honeyed rose. Also faint hints of fruits, green notes, and leather in the base.

Attar de Roses is almost magical. I’ve been testing a lot of rose fragrances over the past few weeks, and this is worlds away from the summer-bright kind of rose I thought I wanted. It’s also not what I feared it might be when I saw leather listed among the notes. It’s unlike anything else I’ve tried, a womanly rose that melts into what’s almost more of an aura than a fragrance. There’s a honeyed warmth here that makes me feel as if I’m wrapped in a golden haze. This fragrance melds with my skin. In the first couple of hours I enjoyed Attar but didn’t find it a must-buy; after that, though, as wave after wave of luscious warmth rose from my skin, I knew it was one of those rare fragrances that mix with my chemistry to become something so much more than the sum of their parts. This is sensual but not brash, feminine but not cloying. A true beauty.

Beautiful rich rose fragrance but it evaporates too quickly. The silage is disappointingly soft for such a bold rose fragrance. Let’s face it, rose wearers aren’t shrinking violets.
I find that layering iso-e super over the top can really prolong the rose projection, without changing the tone of the rose noticeably.
This is a unisex rose. Nothing powdery or cosmetic-like about it.

Attar de Roses is a beautiful rose fragrance, somehow both youthful and mature like smelling a fresh pink rose from the garden while having a glass of Amarone wine. And thankfully I don’t smell any leather. It’s simply lovely, however it fades after a couple of hours so it will not be an addition to my wardrobe. I think it would suit someone that love roses and favour a softer sillage after the initial spray.

    Disappointed!
    Light rose scent!
And the scent is exactly same as Victoria’s Secret Vanille Lace after 1 hour, nothing special!

This is a whisper of a scent, close to the skin. It is beautiful but shy. I will douse my clothes in this and report back.
Reporting back, years later. The drydown is decidedly cotton candy without being too sweet if that’s imaginable. It actually smells like cotton candy that’s been doused in a pot of cream. The milky cream subdues the candy, giving a hand cream, soapy finish. That’s the smell, a creamy bar of white chocolate with a sip of rose tea.

Oh Attar de Roses! I want you so much to become my signature! But how can this ever happen if I dither even to use you sparely, since I am so much afraid of finishing you one day 🙁
A delicate romantic sweet rose in a bed of amber, wood and leather..
    This is a love story!
This is an extraordinary rose in love to the amber.
    A warm winter tale..

Being a rose perfume aficionado I always on a lookout for a new rose scent to add to my collection. Attar de Roses is a beautiful true rose scent that is definitely worthy a full bottle. What I love about this scent is a combination of soft and subtle with sensual and rich. It embodies the rose in full bloom perfectly – its delicate, fragrant petals, rich deep color and a divine smell. It wraps around me like a delicate silk veil so gorgeous and feminine. A perfect selection for a romantic evening or a first date.
The opening of this scent is luscious and rich. Natural, true rose in all its glory. I find there is a little bit more going on in this scent than just straight roses. There is a bit of oriental and sweet feeling to the scent in the first half an hour. However, the sweetness with just a touch of powder is never overwhelming but rather perfectly balanced. As the scent develops, I could smell a bit of ambergris, but on my skin it never goes into animalistic territory, but rather remains floral. I get only hints of leather, but it adds a nice touch to the whole composition. The scent settles to a lovely soft rose scent, which stays close to the skin and lasts about 5-6 hours.
I would definitely recommend this scent to those who are looking for a nice, true rose scent which smells natural, not overpowering and easy to wear. This is a rose scent that I can wear to almost any occasion without being overwhelmed by the diva personality, which so many rose scents have. Overall score 9/10.

I like this! I was looking for a soft, sweet rose scent so I ordered samples of Attar de Roses and also Loukhoum. Very sadly, Loukhoum turned into a loud baby powder smell on me and it stayed that way for the entire day, so Loukhoum is a no go. Attar de Roses, on the other hand, is one that I would give serious consideration to shelling out $110 for. I’m just a humble beginner in my exploration of fragrances, but it seems to me that roses need to be handled very carefully, when trying to capture facets of their personaltiies, in fragrance. For example, I have Jo Malone’s Velvet Rose and Oud which I will buy for as long as JM keeps making it (that one just hits me squarely in the “oh, YEAH!” every time I spray it on), and that rose has its own glorious, dark personality. For a sweeter, softer personality, I was pleasantly surprised to find that in Attar de Roses. This is a soft rose, it is slightly sweet from the amber, but there is a subtle punch of leather to keep it from cloying or venturing into baby powder territory. It is not loud; the scent bubble is close to the wearer, yet still present. It isn’t girlie and it’s not old lady, and it is not green rose bush (which is actually very refreshing, and for the whole rose and nothing but the rose–leaves, thorns, stems, blossoms–I humbly suggest that you give Anniebelle’s Rose parfum oil by Soivohle a try, it is wow!) I can’t stop sniffing my wrist, and that’s a good sign. Attar de Roses satisfies my fragrance “sweet tooth” and the rose is not compromised. I’ve had it on for two hours, and I am still impressed; it softly radiates close to my skin but it hasn’t vanished. I know there are many sweet rose perfumes that I haven’t tried, but I think I could be very happy with this one. There is no baby powder or vanilla or sugar bomb in this fragrance, which at least for me is good, because I have found that those ingredients tend to latch onto me and overwhelm everything else. I almost overlooked this one! I’m very glad that I gave it a try. Another add to my wish list.

I love, love, love Attar de Roses! This is what I call PERFUME. I fell in love at first sniff, went back to test again, fallen in love again.
It is so high quality rose, the best smelling mind-blowing pure rose oil, without the greasy edge of rose oil. Natural? Maybe not.
It is a warm type of rose scent, maybe due to all complimentary notes. Leather and amber are present, but they never stick out and I’m grateful for that, because in my vision Attar de Roses needs to be first of all a rose scent.
Someone mentioned animalic skankiness. This is quite shocking for me. Nothing skanky came to my mind smelling this. I usually avoid any skank, unless… it is so well made and balanced that I don’t notice!
This is a perfume that makes me feel feminine and elegant yet not in a trendy fashionable way rather in a timeless way.
The sillage is not big, 30-40 cm at most but that’s a good thing. The lasting power is great.

Ooooh baby: I’ve spent six months testing all sorts of rose fragrances and this smells like no other. On me, it’s a massive blast of slightly indolic flowers with leather and a hint of spicy woodiness and animal skankiness, in one orchestral rush. Not a sweet, shy, demure note anywhere. What a combination! If you like your roses hidden among thorns, or nestled within a wild landscape, this might be your kind of rose perfume. Not sure about the longevity but I’m more interested in the moment, anyway 🙂

This is my favorite rose scent to date and has become something of a signature. This is rose and jam in abundance for me. It’s deep and rich and luxurious and different from anything I’ve ever smelled before. It lasts and lasts. On me, this is very sweet and even a bit boozy.
I have to say that this doesn’t read sweet and soft to me as others have mentioned. Instead it’s bold, seductive and very definitely powerful. From the first moment I tried it I couldn’t get it out of my mind.

Many times before I’ve had problem with perfumes made by Keiko Mecheri – I’ve found them to be too soft and gentle. The case with “Attar de Roses” is the same, only difference is that being soft and gentle is what I love the most in this.
The opening was a pink and sparkling rose as other have stated, but what’s the most captivating in “Attar de Roses” is the heart and drydown. The most delicate rose and jasmine combo on the fantastic amber background, subtle, gentle, close to skin, inviting and very feminine.
A must for everyone who searches for a gentle and amazing rose for elegant evenings with your loved ones. It’s breathtakingly beautiful.

This is a very pink rose. It’s pretty, but not spectacular. There is little to no silage and it fades away after about an hour. I have to bring my wrist to my face to smell anything. I luckily only bought an STC decant. I was hoping for way more from this fragrance. Glad I didn’t shell out for a bottle!

  31. :

A heavenly rose fragrance which makes me think of the petals one throws at a wedding.
Summertime comes to mind of course and this juice is a gorgeous, heavenly sweet and pretty rose which is a refined and classy scent sitting very close to my skin and exuding a divine aroma.
Its fairly linear in structure as one would expect from a rose fume to be from a house such as Mecheri.
This is a well blended and very natural scent and the longevity is good on my thin and dry skin.
A summertime scent without a doubt and a keeper for me!

  32. :

A pretty, light rose fragrance. Very pleasant and spring-like. Nothing “attar” about it. Usually attars are strong, potent, and longlasting. This is just really “nice,” for lack of a better word. I’d describe it as a very “pink” rose.

  33. :

    3 out of 5

I’d expected rose note to last longer and stronger just because of the name. But that is just expectations. Some might like it. Too gentle and boring for me.

  34. :

    4 out of 5

Keiko Mecheri ATTAR DE ROSES is the sort of creation which makes me a believer in the niche/designer distinction. This is simply a gorgeous, velvety, authentic red rose perfume. I defy anyone to find anything even close to this in the designer houses. All of those “rose” perfumes are pale koolaid roses, while this is the real thing. Here the rose is richly dressed with ambergris and the effect is magnificent.
ATTAR DE ROSES opens on what I initially took to be a benzoin note, but as the composition develops the rose becomes thicker and richer with a texture not exactly waxy but still vaguely reminiscent of Guerlain NAHEMA. From looking at the notes, I initially surmised that what I was detecting in the base was ambergris much more than leather.
After acquiring a bottle and becoming much more familiar with this creation, I have concluded that ATTAR DE ROSES is something of an ambergris bomb. Big rose and equally big ambergris. Think Creed FLEURS DE BULGARIE but multiple the ambergris by about five.
This unique, seductive creation is truly gorgeous and a must-sniff for all rose lovers!

  35. :

Sweet, soft and delightful, Keiko Mecheri’s Attar de Roses is a true treat to the senses.
This is currently my favorite rose scent, and one of my all time favorite roses, along with another of Keiko’s fragrances: Mogador.
However, while Mogador is dark and rich, Attar de Roses is a very sweet, light rose scent.
The perfume opens with a truly stunning burst of creamy pink roses. It’s like being in a rose garden at the height of summer. The fragrance is warm and cozy, yet never overly dense. I don’t find this one at all cloying, despite its inherent sweetness.
As it dries down, the scent becomes slightly buttery on my skin, which is the leather coming through, and a little woodsy, but the rose dominates throughout.
I find the lasting power of this one is good…I get 6 hours minimum longevity, although the sillage is not too strong.
But it’s a wonderful scent overall, and a perfect spring rose for me. A real true love.

  36. :

    5 out of 5

Roses, roses, all the way! I loved this scent from the moment I dabbed on my tiny sample this morning. At first it seemed very quiet and faint, but intriguing, and then half an hour later I found I was sporting a magnificent rose bouquet – like strolling through a rose garden in June. I haven’t detected the leather and animalic notes others have mentioned, but there’s enough ambery woods to keep it from becoming overly sweet. I may have to buy an FB. Only problem, already flagged, is the longevity. For the price, I want my frags to float me through the day. This lasts 2-3 hours on me, but perhaps, in summer, that will be enough.

  37. :

    Really really beautiful rose perfume!
It smells warm, velvety, delicious, the rose note is incredibly plush, smooth and sophisticated. The sweet woody and amber base give it a mysterious, oriental feel. I get a strong impression of chocolate rose from this perfume.
    So well done.

  38. :

A very classy and classic rose scent from Keiko Mecheri. It starts off as a massive bouquet of roses in full bloom. It stays the same for the most part of its being around my skin, but it also has a very nice, leathery drydown phase that lasts a while.
Attar de Roses is not very powdery, slightly creamy, and it is a rather mature and grown up rose scent without tendency to become sweet and playful.
But on the other hand, while beautiful, it is not a very original take on the rose; it does bear a strong resemblance to a few other rose scents available on the market.

  39. :

    4 out of 5

This is quite nice. Like a bunch of fresh blooming and very sweet roses. For me it’s maybe a bit too sweet and too common – especially for that price.
PS: I tested it again on skin today and still find it way too sweet and blooming for a rose scent as such.

  40. :

    4 out of 5

This is a beautiful, lush, creamy rose. A must try for rose lovers. A little too sweet for my taste, I would have liked it more if the wood was more prominent.
I still think this is very well done.

  41. :

    5 out of 5

First thought – roses, roses, roses. But not too sweet or agresive. It was warm woody rose : very elegant, romantic, purfect for lady.
Later woody notes disappeared and left soapy and creamy rose: cute and light like sunny morning in french manor.
My nose didn’t indentify any leather or jasmine. Amber isn’t powerful like note, but it gives purfect scient of warm and some innocent intimacy.
    Longevity is realy not bad – about 5 – 6 h.
Resume : very romantic, clean, rosy perfume for young elegant woman.

Actually a very nice wearable leather rose.. a little bit like Drole de Rose by L’artisan but a touch of leather added..I m still testing it now..but it seems that it could grow into love..
