Description

The core of Arielle Shoshana is passion fruit: “Perfumer Cécile Hua used a proprietary CO2 extraction technique to create the first natural passion fruit extract in perfumery history. Cécile’s gorgeous passion fruit material was already practically a perfume in itself, but the unexpected tang of saffron elevates Arielle Shoshana Eau de Parfum into a fragrance worthy of the Arielle Shoshana mission statement: “fragrances as interesting as you are.” Sandalwood, ambroxan, and vanilla give the drydown fullness and warmth.”

Notes: Passion Fruit, Grapefruit, Rhubarb, Mandarin, Peach, Saffron, Pink Pepper, Cardamom, Magnolia, Sandalwood, Ambroxan, Vanilla, Vetiver Bourbon, Iris, Musk.

Available as a 100 ml Eau de Parfum. Arielle Shoshana Eau de Parfum was launched in 2017. The nose behind this fragrance is Cecile Hua.

This is like pure joy in a bottle. It opens very tart and fruity, almost to the point of being a little challenging, and then settles into a gorgeous, rich passionfruit. The other notes that I smell most are the warm, woodsy notes underneath the bright, sparkling fruity notes. In that sense, it reminds me of a way more tropical Bal d’Afrique, with crystalline, gem-like fruits singing over buttery sandalwood and scratchy vetiver. The performance is high-quality. Great sillage and lasting power. On me, the scent remains fairly linear with the base notes gradually emerging more. This is a great grown-up fruity scent that is sure to make people smile.

I ordered a sample of this because I wasn’t sure how much I’d enjoy a strong passion fruit. Boy, was I mistaken though I am so glad they offer samples! It has a beautiful, bright passion fruit with a bitter green note on me- as though you are smelling the entire fruit, rind/skin/leaves and all. Lovely!

This fragrance is so VIBRANT. It’s tart and juicy and the saffron/sandalwood drydown just glows on the skin. If you like Atelier Colognes but want something more distinctive, this is the way to go. I consistently get compliments on this fragrance and it’s my go-to summer scent for 2018.

The top is SO sweet and fruity, but soon dries down to a nice balance between tart and sweet. I get no spice.

Passion fruits are my Dad’s favorite, and we have a vine growing outside. Our family lives & breathes the scent of its harvest. You see the round purple-exterior varietal with the astringent yellow seeds in California grocers; and our backyard plant is the football-shaped ‘banana passion fruit’. A bowl of either one will *fill* the house with other-worldly tropical aroma. So when Arielle Shoshana hit the market, I firmly believe their word that this is a genuine (and first-time invention) of a CO2-extract from the natural fruit. The first spray is utterly eyes-roll-back-into-back-of-the-head divine, and made me squeal with delight!
In the day & age where brands slap on a $100 tag on a cheap-as-water vial of Iso-E, Shoshana’s price is well-justified. In the US, passion fruit is a costly delicacy.
And unlike real passion fruits which are deceptively sour, there’s no hidden agenda to her enchantment. The bright fruit opening stays the course in a fairly linear progression, with the emergence of saffron in the first 10 minutes. Where celeb-frags featuring the note are super-sweetened, there is no cloying sugar x vanilla to mar the experience. Like Byredo’s Pulp, a man could wear this. Cecile Hua’s fruit-forward jewel is tops on my Wish List. Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful.

This is a very nice summer fun scent. The opening is tart and juicy, and I can distinctly smell all four of the listed fruit notes. The passion fruit CO2 is lovely and is wedded to the warm, sunny spice of the saffron, cardamom, and pink pepper. There is a soft floral heart of magnolia which blends with a powdery iris, and it all rests on a comforting base of vetiver, sandal, amber, and musk, sweetened by vanilla
