The opening was very promising & woody, but quickly turned into a (cooked) mushroom accord… I had the highest hope for this (having oud, cedar, and 2 different kinds of frankincense) :/

Arabian Leather by JoAnne Bassett Parfum Extrait, (New) Review (Sample) this is classified as a Leather, the notes are Oud, Olibanum, Incense, Cedar, Palo Santo, and Cassia.
I get the Oud, Incense, Cedar, Cassia and Palo Santo it opens up with some Palo Santo and Cedar making it piney, pungent and bitter, the Palo Santo is mild, the Cedar is strong. I’m not very fond of the opening. it’s a bit harsh, it does get much better as it dries down.
Palo Santo is a “Mystical Tree” that grows on the coast of South America and is related to Frankincense, Myrrh and Copal. In Spanish, the name literally means “Holy Wood”. It is part of the citrus family and has sweet notes of pine, mint and lemon.
Then after about twenty minutes the Palo Santo dissipates, the cedar softens and remains in comes the oud and cassia, making it green, musty the cassia is strong, the oud is mild, when the fragrance develops to this point I get a very subtle lemon note that lasts about twenty minutes.
Then after about two hours the oud dissipates along with the musty smell, the cassia softens and remains, in comes the incense making it sweet and dry, the incense is mild.
What I love most about Arabian Leather is that their is no leather note in the fragrance, it gives off that smell with the combination of notes, I also get a bit of a metallic smell that may seem odd bit it fits the fragrance perfectly, that lasts about thirty minutes.
What I also found interesting is that most leather fragrances I have come across have been very strong sometimes even pungent, harsh and hard to wear, Arabian Leather does start off that way, it does quickly change into a soft and refined fragrance.
Arabian Leather reminds me of Montale’s Aoud Leather and Montale’s Cuir d’ Arabie, Aoud Leather is musky and spicy and Cuir d’Arabie is stronger more woody with an added tobacco note, they all have similar oud and leather notes.
Arabian Leather is a very strong yet soft, smooth, lush, timeless, aromatic, balmy, with a touch of dirtiness Leather fragrance, it’s very masculine and perfect for ages twenty five and above.
This would be perfect for the Fall and Winter, I get good projection and average longevity, this is another wonderful fragrance from JoAnne 4/5 Stars.
