Description

Aoud Gourmet, in spite of its sweet gourmand notes, is a fragrant dominated by woods and musks. Its opening is very sweet thanks to the notes of marzipan, sugar and honey. The heart is composed of patchouli, cedar, nutmeg and cardamom. Ambergris, sandalwood, cashmere and musk form the base of this extraordinary perfume.

It is available as 30 and 100 ml EDP. Aoud Gourmet was launched in 2008. The nose behind this fragrance is Jean-Claude Astier.

Oudy, sweet, rich, goodness. It has strong lasting power and sillage is outstanding. I don’t get much Patchouli on me. The cashmere wood, is a true star here. Complimented with all the wonderful gourmand notes. Everything is well presented and work well with one another. Very warm and comforting. Xo

Oud first, then incense. Followed by the “pissy-ness” (ha!) referred to by apixiefan. Sweet, a bit fruity and very middle-eastern in character. So much so, that I hallucinated rose in the composition. – Which isn’t in the notes! I haven’t worn an oud-focused scent in some time, so I had to get used to it again. It changes throughout the day, finally becoming a soft powder-oud, still with recognisable fruit. It’s high quality, interesting to the nose, but like all oud niche scents it’s not mainstream, to the extent that if you wore it on a date, you’d get some puzzled looks. Having said that, it’s a good oud scent, pleasant, warm, with that fruity touch. I don’t get much of an almond note, but maybe I will in winter. It lasted a long time, but not on clothing. For oud fans I’d say “go for it”. For the uninitiated, I’d say “try it first” 🙂

Tested my sample today and I absolutely loved this fragrance: this is love at first sight. It starts off very oud but in a sweet and melancholic way, and dries down to a very smoky and balsamic finish. It lasts and lasts and turns different shades fragrance-wise, as you wear it. After an hour or so I start smelling stronger smoke and animalic undertones. I am definitely going to buy a bottle. This is a daytime or an evening fragrance, that communicates style and svelteness.

Aoud Gourmet is a relatively (not really) sweet, honeyed woody smoky strawberry marzipan to me 🙂 I don’t find any of Micallef Aouds to be heavy in terms of, well, aoud-ness, and this perfume is no exception.
I’m slightly reminded of Jo Malone Velvet Rose and Oud (must be the combination of “praline” and aoud).
Very lovely, not overpowering, not overly sharp. Yummy, but still on the “serious” woody base (cashmeran, oud, sandalwood). I personally thought of it as of a much sweeter perfume before I tried it. It isn’t that gourmand one may suppose basing on the name.
I mostly smell sandalwood, cashmeran, honey, almonds, and a bit of strawberries (olfactory hallucination).
    Moderate sillage and longevity.

I can see how some notice the sweet while others notice the woody or fruity. It really has it all. The almond note is noticeable, on me there is an animalic note present (civetone/skatol possibly) too, its woody enough, then the aoud notes. To me this is a pretty nice for an aoud fragrance, very Middle Eastern. Unfortunately I cant wear these fragrances – they make me feel nauseated – but I love catching a whiff of it on a passerby. Its quite beautiful.

It is interesting how some think this is TOO sweet (strawberry pie, really? haha) and others that it’s dry and woody.
On my skin it opens with an aoud-like BURST which must be from cypriol oil(a “woody/earthy/spicy cousin to papyrus”) +cashmere and that tones down after 15 mins or so but stays the whole time that the scent is detectable. After maybe 30 mins I get a lot of white honey but still very tapered down by the spicy woodsy notes, and a fairly big dose of nutmeg adding to the sweet feel of it. I can’t pick out the patch much over the other earthy elements at this time.
Longevity is really good in warm weather but (as when I’m writing this) below-freezing temps suck it right off my skin, like all scents. In warm temps it seems to last 8ish hours, and seems to have retained ALL the notes I could originally smell! (yay!) It comes in waves though; one minute it’ll be very woody-spice and then I start picking up the white honey-nutmeg spice again.
I get more woody notes and cashmeran than any sort of oud. I wish it was sweeter and had more detectable marzipan.
EDIT a week or so later – 10min after spraying it’s smooth, smoky soft and woodsy. Like the smoothest woods w/ a caramelized glaze drizzled over the top, muting any harshness that once was present. May be body heat dependent for those sweet tones to rise!

It reminds me of Loukhoum by Keiko Mecheri, but not as sweet and not as loud. It wears close to the skin with minimal sillage but did last 8+ hours. The marzipan and honey notes disappear within the first hour. It’s not the most exciting fragrance, unfortunately.

I find Micallef’s creations similar to those of Parfumerie Generale, in the sense that they are generally pleasing and come with a dose of sweetness, with a few exceptions. Which make them easy to wear, difficult to displease or be negative about, but also I find it difficult to warrant the price tag when it’s just not special enough. A friend gave me a personalized perfume from Cyprus that contains a sweet light musk and oud. Aoud Gourmet is basically that, in pleasant proportions- sweetness, musk and oud. I do like Aoud Gourmet, it lasts long enough (about 8 hours), it’s not a mega loud scent nor is it a skin scent, would do well in company. However I find it a struggle to part with the required funds for it no matter how beautiful the scent and bottle are. It’s just not special enough and for 2014, I’ve vowed to only add bottles that have that extra special touch. For now I’m very grateful to have a large decant to last me while I ponder over getting a FB of this.

This was not sweet to me and I was particularly looking for the marzipan note. Rather it was a smooth, woody composition. Good choice if you are looking for a more muted oud, it is well blended and not too smoky or harsh.

Makes me raise an eyebrow for sure. It smells like potato pancakes cooking and oud incense being burned in the kitchen at the same time. At first this greasy food/sharp resin partnership put me off, but the second time I sampled it I thought it was really unique, although too expensive for me to ever purchase a bottle for something I’d rarely wear.

Aoud Gourmet is most definitely not a woody spicy scent on my skin. It’s more like a fruity-woody-gourmand scent. It smells like aoud and strawberry pie filling. I don’t get any of the marzipan note that I am craving. The aoud note was tame and made its boldest appearance in the heart of the dry down. But overall the fragrance was rather linear on me. I look forward to retesting it in cold weather to see how it changes.

Og yes. This is not bad at all the only issue is it smells exactly like my air freshener I bought whilst in Dubai. So why should I pay more money for this?? :0 I might as well just cover myself in air freshener.
    very sweet and sticky.

Let me begin by saying that the so-called top notes are actually the basenotes according to my skin and nose.
Aoud gourmet starts with sharp and strong aoud notes creating an amazing silage that only lasts several minutes, sadly; at this point the scent has a very heavy middle eastern character; the punchy aoud dissipates soon, leaving behind a spicy scent which is very woody, full of cardamon and dry vanilla. Still I get no sweetness yet but a soft, powdery , and increasingly sweeter sandalwood follows, the spices still remaining. Finally the scent becomes a little gourmand. One hour later the perfume is soft, barely there, more like a skin scent, and definitely edible; a little honey and sugared almonds, more of a velvety smooth wood, and a hint of aoud remain.
I love this perfume, and I find it quite similar to Rose Aoud, without the roses. There is an incense smokey dryness that persists. A very sexy and sensual scent. It doesn’t have the Montale lasting power, I wish it did, it’s softer , like a cashmere blanket. Addictive, mysterious, enchanting.

Aoud is definitely a big part of this Gourmand! I love Aoud for all the very clever reasons it’s used but in this case it was much too resinous, sharp and over-powering for this perfume. I didn’t feel the notes were seamlessly blended, more thrown together. It all fell a bit flat for me and wasn’t very interesting, quite basic overall. I love, love marzipan and it was the biggest reason for me to buy this one however I couldn’t really smell marzipan at all. I got the honey/sugar, Aoud and Cardamom most, the rest just didn’t really show at all! This was too loud where it should have been subtle and too subtle where it needed to have a bit more to say for itself! Overall ok but nothing to write home about. On me it was more or less gone from my skin within 2 hours max, which having said all of the above, was not something I felt terribly sad about!

It’s shocking that oud is not listed as a note- it is so strong and obvious in the opening it almost burnt the lining of my nose! Slowly over time the honey and sugary notes come out, and they are really lovely. The oud is still there though. I’m not a fan of oud at all really, especially as a dominant note but I bought this sample simply because I love gourmands. I have found Micallef scents to be of high quality and expertly blended which is also the case here, even though I wish this scent had no oud note,in which case I’d buy it immediately. This really is the perfect Gourmand Oud, if that’s what you’re into (it’s just not me). It also has killer staying power and very good sillage.

This opens with what smells like to me a very prominent aoud note, although its softer than any of the Montales I’ve tried.
After a bit the honey shows up and it mellows to a soft honey and woods scent. I can also detect a bit of sugar and cardamon, although the latter is judiciously used and is never overwhelming.
Aoud Gourmet is not overly sweet at any time like some gourmands can be, and it dries down to almost a skin scent. I find it quite lovely, but not terribly exciting. If a gourmand aoud scent is something you fancy this juice is worth a sniff.

Yes I too would swear this had aoud as a dominant note; it opens very resinous and sharp (like straight up aoud). At this point it smells like many montales..and a little mundane. However the sweets eventually reveal themselves although they are very subtle, like honey and saffron(not listed). This is definitely the least sweet gourmand i’ve tried- Aoud Gourmet would be well suited to those who enjoy aoud and are just looking for a variation of it. I think a man could wear it easily! Good longevity and sillage; the harsh open dissipates quickly and becomes a sweeter, softer aoud.

    A genuine woody spicy.
Although oudh is not listed, I do smell it! It must be the combination of spices and woods.
To my surprise, I can’t smell any of the gourmand notes. Only as it dries down, it gets sweet with a simple burnt sugar sweetness (but not too much).
    Big sillage and staying power.
    For oudh lovers!

Got a sample as part of a lot sale. Usually don’t go for gourmands because they can be overly heady and sweet but I have been on a what-the-heck-try-it spree and have decided to take the plunge. Having recently purchased a few Arabian perfumes I was really curious as to just how much of this fragrance I would be able to take before saying enough. Arabian perfumes can be demanding on your olfactory senses but I have come to love them. The less is more lesson has been learned.
As I opened the vial and sniffed I immediately detected the oud and honey but did not get the marzipan until after I lightly applied to my wrists and back of hand. Its been about 2 1/2 hrs and I have lightly reapplied to the same area. This is really a treat for me because the honey, marzipan, sugar and now,(nutmeg and patchouli?),is starting to meld into caramely-toffee-woody and I am savoring each whiff. I love it when I can taste how a fragrance smells. I imagine a caramel toffee marshmallow slow roasted over an incense stick. As it drys down I still get to keep my aoud going but now it is accompanied by the musk and sandalwood. I’m sure the ambergris and cardamom are here but my untrained nose can’t tell. So sorry.
Mmmmmmm . . . . This is not the headrush aoud gourmand I was afraid it would turn out to be that would leave me breathless and produce a major migrane but instead it has become one to roll around in your headspace and savor, and I am beside myself with joy. If I am destined to love a gourmand it has to be this one or one that can follow the lead of Aoud Gourmet.
