It’s my first Mugler frag.
Batch Code 0645166 or 17003. Projects superb around 3 hours on my skin on cold weather, longevity 8,9 hours.
About the scent, awesome creation. Sweet, boozy, bubblegum juice. Absolutely worth purchase in my opinion, maybe it has no the power of the first edition but i love it.
loran7897 – :
Pure Malt…so many things to say about this one, but I will try to keep it relatively short.
This is a masterpiece to me. Yes, it has been reformulated. I still get a good 8-9 hours with it. It’s not as boozy as the original, but it’s still a great fragrance.
Sweet fruits, whiskey, coffee, and chocolate. Semi-gourmand, sweet, and a touch of booze. The fruits make it sweet. The coffee adds to the warm characteristic. The standard chocolately patchouli that the A*Men line uses.
One of my favorites in my collection, even in its reformulation state. Don’t let the exaggerated reviews of it being weak dissuade you. It still performs very well. Just not as well as the original.
@essam_mo81 I purchased my most recent bottle from Fragrancenet. It had the registration code that worked on the Mugler website. I have purchased around 50 bottles from Fragrancenet and never received a fake product. It may have something you went anosmic to. See if others can still smell it on you after you can no longer smell it on yourself.
s–d.ru – :
I’ve literally never gotten a fake of anything from fragrancenet and I’ve bought at least 10 Creeds from there. Unfortunately your review got downvoted enough that it disappeared, but if you bought Pure Malt from fragrancenet it definitely wasn’t fake. I’ve bought 3 bottles of it from there, all good. If it was from eBay, then it’s certainly possible it was a fake.
Alexyk – :
@ smellsbells That’s where I purchased the Creed Royal Oud from, just so you know. Like I said, some purchases will be legit. I’ve made many. However, others will not and simply cannot be real. Purchasing a cologne for $200 and expecting the same juice that resides in Neiman Marcus for $500 is really naive on the part of the buyer. IMHO. But, it’s your money do what thou wilt.
FriendLiam – :
@MATHMAN
I disagree.I think buying online or even ebay most times is ok.sites like fragrancenet and scented monkey and foreverlux are ok to buy from. And many sellers just clean house and list items they grow tired of or try and dont like. I do it alot on ebay,
SAM208 – :
@essam_mo81 If you purchased it online and not at a certified retailer like Macy’s, Dillards, Nordstroms, etc., chances are it was diluted juice or fake. NEVER BUY ONLINE!!! Always buy retail. Yes it’s more money, but the quality of the juice is there and isn’t that what this is all about? I have made the mistake of buying online and it really is a crapshoot. Sure you may get some real ones, but roll that dice enough and you’re going to crap out. Creed comes to mind. I bought some Royal Oud one time from an “legitimate” online retailer for around $200 and got burned. I went to Neiman Marcus with the bottle and they pointed out a half dozen issues that made it fake, #1 being the strength of the juice. It was not even in the same ballpark as the real one. So, just keep that in mind and save yourself some aggravation and money in the long run.
BTW your A*MEN was made on 1/3/2017.
nainevomi – :
Again yet another simply exquisite masterful unique fragrance completely castrated by reformulation… this now lasts roughly 3-4 hours on my skin with very mediocre performance/projection.
Is it really concern for our welfare that perfume ingrediants that are supposedly harmful to 0.001% of the overall population of the entire planet need to be removed from use because billy sneeze bag might get another runny nose or is it companies penny pinching using cheaper lower quality ingredients…? I know which answer i think it is.

I paid 70 $ for this bottle and when using it the projection is faint and longivity is poor compared to your reviews here !!!
I can not check the production date
I do not know if it is old and expired or just people here overhyping as usual!!
If any one can help it will be appreciated

I gotta say the original is one of my favorites of all time. This though is just ok. Performance is decent. I guess where you live plays a huge part in how a scent works. I’m in SW Florida and the humidity here after awhile just turns this into a mess after a couple hours. If I we’re back up in NY I could totally see wearing this in the winter or fall. None of the flankers work as well as the original classic king though IMO.
shmelik – :
This cologne smells ok. It’s a great cologne to wear at a restaurant/bar…

Sold it last winter. After a few weeks I was wondering why the heck I did that. I wanted to have it back in my collection ever since. So I bought a new bottle. Sprayed it on my hand yesterday evening and I instantly fell in love again.
This is NEVER going out of my wardrobe again.
Prices are very good at the moment. A bit over €50/100ml. I would easily pay double for this heavenly juice.

I love this stuff and have a 2014 version, 2012 version and the 2013 Creation version. Perfect for the fall / winter with just the right amount of projection and sillage.
CAH4E3 – :
Wow! The reviews for this are all over the map. As someone who has loved and used Pure Havane for a couple of years, I tried Pure Malt on my skin recently and was, meh.
I didn’t get the boozy, whiskey fragrance I was expecting. Instead, on my skin, it was a more mellow, almost flat A*men. Projection was poor and longevity was okay as a skin scent. I tested a couple of other fragrances and gave them a chance for several hours. Pure Malt was almost indiscernible by the end.
antituiviar – :
What tricks the perfumer had up his sleeves when putting this magical scent together I don’t know. But one thing is for sure, this is one of, if not the best boozy fragrance ever made in my opinion.
The smooth transition from the opening through mid to the base is just phenomenal.

(1) Bottle size in use: 100 ml.
(1) Batch Code(s): 0645166 or 17003.
The strange thing is that the only code printed on the bottom of the bottle is: 0645166 and both codes 0645166 and 17003 are printed on the box.
checkfresh.com recognises the code: 0645166:
“The batch code indicates the product was produced in 2014 or later.
Unfortunately such batch code format isn’t supported by the website so far”.
checkcosmetic.net recognises the code: 17003 as = 3 January 2017
So it’s hard to know which one is the real batch code.

the only thing I don’t like about this fragrance is how hard it is to find for a fair price lately 🙁
this is my favorite one from all TM line
it’s that malty grain cereal note I love so much mixed into such a nice pastry boozy sweet scent
this is a love for me, not a like!
Sanitar01rus – :
Back in the day when this came out I hated the boozy sickly sweet malt but it has really grown with me now I’m older and appreciate this beast, now I’m leaving the Pure Havane club and joining the Pure Malt club! This is for middle age men, youngsters dislike it somewhat, I would say once you reach 30 years old it starts to fit your maturity and you begin smelling different nuances. 8.5/10 it’s currently in my top 5 !
gardi27 – :
I usually don’t like colognes or fragrances designed for men because they can have that axe-esque smell, ugh… But this is pretty nicely unisex. Its axe smell is pretty tucked in the back and might only be noticeable to people like me who are really vigilant about it lol.
What makes this wearable for me is the fruit+malt, it’s so warm and sweet. I like it but no way am I getting a full bottle. I might get another sample in the future or something, but this isn’t complex enough for me to buy.
Just doesn’t fully hit the mark. I voted “like”. Although I do love that fruit+malt, I wish it sat on a more complex base, something higher quality/interesting rather than like…. axe lol. I also agree the malt smells kinda stale.
Composition: 4/5, Quality: 3/5

One of the fragrance I use to have and I liked it but not enough to keep it so I end up selling it… and now I miss it.
zitnor – :
I like the original’s sweetness, tar and patchouli and was ready to try something further. Unfortunately the malt note here strikes me as somewhat stale, and the fruit note I found somewhat too subdued. The boozy character does not come across as very convincing like in Tauerville Patch Flash. the fragrance is well blended and its strong point is that it develops nicely over time. There is heft and warmth so I will give this another try in autumn. Not a dislike, but not a big love either.
stav – :
Rich, full, sweet and resinous without being sticky, but almost feels dark. 6 to 8 hours longevity with good projection and great sillage.
Overall you get a modern and playful scent that is reminiscent of D&G the one without spice and improved in every way.
If you wanted something darker and much woodier go for encre noir a l’extreme
One of the best fall scents and best designer gourmands or almost gourmand fragrances for the money.
A great one and a lady killer. I don’t know why this is not recommended more for dates or even partying.
SmabyVarapamn – :
This apparently smells like a fruity, sweet, dark and warm whiskey. I don’t drink so I’ve never smelled whiskey before but the warm and slightly sweet alcoholic drink note is unmistakable in this (hence the name ‘Pure Malt’) while it has fruity nuances as well. For the fruits, I mainly detect the scent of mandarin orange, and it kind of reminds me of Terre d’Hermes. On the drydown it loses the fruity nuances and gains the chocolately and coffee nuances of the original Mugler A*Men. Sillage is moderate while longevity is moderate as well at around 5 hours. By no means is this a beast though, and the sillage is subtle compared to the A*Men line in general. The scent is wonderful though. The bottle for this fragrance is interestingly designed and iconic as a part of the Mugler Angel Men line, but the plastic exterior collects dust easily and the sprayer is unfortunately one of the worst I’ve ever experienced in a fragrance. The scent inside is great however so it makes up for it.
4.5/5
hargo – :
I like the sweetness of Pure Malt, a sweetness that is more grown up than feminine perfumes.Unhappilly in Brazil we have a very short season of cool days and the steep price is too much for a scent that I can wear only for 10/ 15 days a year. Had a decant of it and longevity is 6/7 hours and sillage is heavy for 3/4 hours. Fortunately there is a great Brazilian clone for this with great longevity/projection and a good price, so I will be able to smell it in the few days of cool temps.
dany – :
Finally got this as a birthday gift a few weeks back. On initial spray, I instantly got angel fron mugler mixed with the smoky peat infused Scottish whiskey hints. Honestly I wish it was more parts whiskey but it is done well and it’s a relatively smooth scent.
I don’t find this scent stunning yet, or earth shattering, but I’m glad it’s in my collection. It’s more of a like, than a love but it seems to be getting better. This is a very good fall-winter night time scent.
Summer time on the restaurant or bar patio during the day in 90 degree temps, this scent gets discombobulated, it’s not the same as when it’s sprayed, same with pure havane. That being said, this will stay In my collection.
Scent 7.5
Longevity 8.5
Sillage 9
Quality 8.5
After wearing this for the past few days, this really is an outstanding scent. A few things though, it’s not great on the skin if you’re outside in the hot sun, its all over the place. Other than that, it’s outstanding. Also I think this scent really shows its true colors after a few hours on the drydown. After a few hours it seemed to really come to life, the “angel” part of pure malt faded away and I got more of the whiskey and fruit part of pure malt which is why I wanted this scent to begin with. Seems crazy I know, but give this scent 2 hours in normal temps and it will really shine, and it becomes a truly great scent, masterpiece comes to mind.
serj79 – :
A * Man is a polarizing perfume, either you like it, or you hate it. However, no one can deny the how groundbreaking this composition represented in 1996, since Gourmand perfumes (Perfumes with notes of food like chocolate, coffee, etc.) were normally reserved for women. Pure Malt is a version from 2009 of the original A * Man, where notes of whiskey, peat, and fruits are incorporated to the original DNA (Coffee, Tonka, vanilla, lavender) giving a smoky and sweet character to the composition. Honestly, of all versions of A * Man (more than 12!), This is the one I like the most.
m4yers – :
Last recent reformulation (box with capital letters MUGLER) is a disaster. The composition was again changed, I smell ambroxan and some plastic notes in it. The longevity is about 30 minutes and after it vecome a skin scent, almost inexistent. This is the end of the beautiful PM. Sad!
korzavina20 – :
After reading so many reviews & all the hype in youtube, decided to jump the hype train & got myself a bottle 2 days ago. Ok let me start with the good news first, the opening is good…that whisky booziness is nice…cozy feeling… Longevity more than 9 hours on my skin.
Bad news, once the top boozy notes settle after an hour or so, u get the choco malt (those frm South East Asia will recognize it as MILO drink) that choco malt scent is strong and overpowers whatever remaining notes present & sticks to you for the entire longevity. The only compliment i got is from my buddy is “bro u smell like MILO” ( i don’t even know if it is categorized as a compliment”) To me it is just an average frag which is over hyped. I strongly don’t recommend it for South East Asian climate which is hot..it brings out the sticky choco malt that lingers for hours…total overall i give it 5/10

I don’t get what all the others are getting, but I sprayed this on my arm, waited a few minutes, smelled it and it was repulsive. Smelled like a boozy dirt. Not my thing at all.
Антоша – :
It’s my most complimented fragrance even though I have other ones that should get me more compliments. Maybe it’s the way my skin makes it smell, I don’t know. I won’t complain because it’s also my personal favorite. A very good autumn/winter fragrance.
frontru – :
This is a shadow of it’s former self. I had a 2013 batch of this I used up several months ago. I bought a new bottle and it lacked the depth of my older version. To be quite frank, it smelt like it was stripped back compared to the older version.
I was that disappointed, I sold the new bottle two days later and struck gold when I saw a Limited Edition bottle, The pure malt creation and bought that with the money.
This used to be strong, thick and textured…the newer version is like a light version of what it once was.
Gorgeous scent, one of my favourites. I don’t care for the new version though. I definitely wouldn’t buy one ever again.
KaxeR – :
Something people don’t often talk about when it comes to this fragrance is just how unisex it is. Sometimes i even think it would be BETTER for a girl because it’s so damn sweet and fruity. Occasionally I even feel like there’s a floral component lurking somewhere in there
tanywasim – :
Close race for the number one among my favorite Mugler’s – Ultrazest, Pure Tonka and Pure Malt. Easy to wear and smooth to smell…
mikhail2409 – :
To me this does not smell classy or elegant. Instead its bold, but pleasing. More for regular use instead of dressing up. Good, however too much hyped.
sicnode – :
Tame, inoffensive, beautiful fragrance. I never owned an older bottle, but, reformulated or not, the current version is barely louder than a skin scent. I love the boozy opening and comforting dry down, sure, but this is not a typical Mugler beast. Regarding the DNA of PM, I find the core of this fragrance quite different from the original A*Men. The absence of a strong patchouli note is most apparent. Also absent or severely reduced are the gourmand notes of caramel, cocoa, and coffee. Perhaps the omission of these “powerhouse” notes also reduces longevity? In any case, it is not redundant to own both. Do I love it? Yes I do. I find Pure Malt extremely wearable in any setting and any climate except for humid, hot days. I don’t feel like I’m wearing “cologne” when I reach for this, but that I just smell great. I think most anyone would enjoy this scent-just curtail your expectation of beastly performance from the current version and you won’t be disappointed.
homyak874 – :
At first I hated this stuff because it was way too overpowering and synthetic. It was so strong it gave me headaches and immediately I wrote it off as overhyped. I was a little sad because the notes seemed like a homerun on paper for me.
Fast forward a bit and Im talking to a guy about Pure Malt and i explain why I hate it. He goes on to say that he totally gets what I mean but if I spray it in the air and walk into it, the beauty of this stuff really comes out. At first I thought he was full of it but decided to try it anyway cause I really wanted to like this stuff.
Holy crap he was right. I couldnt believe it but it was like night and day. I immediate went and bought a bottle. This stuff rocks when applied indirectly. Definitely a masculine, slightly mature vibe. Some might not see this as versatile but if youve got the confidence and right personality you could wear this all over the place, which I definitely plan on doing.
Great juice
riga35 – :
In my opinion, this is the most overrated fragrance in term of longevity, and silage. My batch code is 0645166. So disappointed.
vovikoid – :
Personally, my favorite of all the TM fragrances.
cena-1980 – :
This is the middle ground between the original A*Men and Pure Havane. If you’re on the fence about which of the A*Men scents you want to try first, or you want the best of the other two mentioned, combined, this is the one to get.
I own this and Pure Havane, and honestly, it’s redundant. But, Pure Malt is office friendly and non-abrasive. Pure Havane on the other hand, I actually like better, because it’s brighter, more outgoing, but it’s not as versatile. I keep telling myself I should sell one, but I just can’t make up my mind as to which. Both are keepers, as far as I’m concerned, but I do get much better projection and longevity from Pure Havane.
Day at the office: Pure Malt.
Night out with your boys: Pure Havane.
Day out, running errands: Pure Havane.
Night out, on a date with a girl you like: Pure Malt.
It’s a tie, ladies and gentlemen. Take your pick.

I get a unisex, even feminine, sexy, sweet and well blended fragrance.
The nuance of tobacco is there and it is resinous. There is a sense of dried fruits too.
Longevity is great 7 hours plus and projects for 3 hours.
For me this is a Higher quality, higher energy Dolce and Gabbana – The One. It is close to One million, especially one million prive. If you love this I recommend Dsquared Potion.
For me this would be a sexy women’s perfume and encourage women to try it and for me modern or metro men to try as well. For me this is a daring fragrance and cannot wear it. Sample, don’t blind buy.
Glaz – :
An exquisite, sexy perfume, truly divine, smells very similar to pure Havane
I love the smell, but the longevity and projection on this latest bottle is appalling
(for me a skin scent with longevity of around 2 hours/I bought directly from the Mugler site)
I hope you are lucky with the performance because the smell is worth it and it will turn heads if you wear it in a bar/club/social function.
It is a mature scent in my opinion, for an autumn/winter night.
9/10

There was so much hype around this between 2012-2015
I really wanted to try it but unfortunately I was a bit afraid to blind buy it cause I was literally scared of purchasing something like the original Amen which I don’t like at all.
There were none of testers in mall to try and finally ended up buying a decant.
This is just so beautiful.
It’s sweet aromatic, little boozy, slight bakery baked bread woody scent.
Not at all like the original (yay)
Becomes bit more simple sweet woody vaniila scent towards the dry down which is a bit of a downer.
I love the opening and mid!
Performance 6-8 hours (not beasty like the original)
Occasion- anytime casual
Season- all season just need to use less sprays.maybe not during hot summer days
Surprisingly great in humid weather- brings out this spicy malt nuance (?peat)
8/10
Hype worthy

The masculine Holy Grail! Strong fruity notes are mixed with some boozy vibes in harmony, and it has a breathtaking effect! I can hardly imagine a better fragrance for winter. The scent of a strong and confident person, which does what he wants to do and doesn’t give a damn about what people thinking. 9/10.
Electro^^ – :
This is certain to garner compliments, however for me it was too heavy, and gave me nausea, so I had to sell.
This is definitely best as a day or night time outdoor fall/winter fragrance, and could be worn nighttime indoors in bars and pubs etc; other than that, I would stay clear of wearing this and 2 sprays max. I personally think there are much better alternatives, but if you want a gourmandish, boozy, sweet, warm fragrance that will receive positive reactions, then you can’t go wrong with this.
I can appreciate why it’s popular and why it gets compliments, it just isn’t for me.
mks134JeomiWogkig – :
For those of you who grew up with Axe Spray this smells exactly, and when I say exactly I mean precisely, like Axe Spray Chocolate. I have a bottle of Chocolate Axe Spray and Soap, and I can tell you it is 100% the same. Now I have a bottle for the gym, a bottle for the shower, and a bottle for going out.
This fragrance last for about a good 8 hours. Some times I spray it right before bed because I like to go to sleep smelling good…I know I’m weird, but every morning I would wake up and still smell it on my skin and even hours after.
This fragrance is great for the winter and preferably at night, but works well in any weather that’s not too hot. Overall, I would really recommend this bottle if you like the smell of chocolate. I have always been a fan of chocolate smells, so this was an easy buy for me.
Smell- 8/10
Performance- 8/10

While I hate to blame reformulations on the failings of a fragrance, I think I have to on this one. I have read and watched this fragrance get hyped over and over again and finally got a bottle for a good price.
To say I’m disappointed would be an understatement. It starts off light and fades so quickly. The A Men DNA is there on the dry down, but it is so faint it’s almost impossible to pick up.
I’m a big fan of Pure Havane and Ultra Zest, but this one is a pass for me. I’ve worn it a few times but I’m pretty sure I won’t wear it again. The problem is I don’t even feel good about swapping it so I guess it will just sit in my collection.
If you can get a pre-reform bottle, I’d say go for it, since that one has gotten so much hype, but I’d skip this one if it’s all you can find.
momoimputle – :
Take the core A*Men ingredients, add boozy special effects (simulated with the help of subtle cinnamon and lemon) with an assist from sweet fruits, and you’ve got a nice aromatic sketch of whisky. Or at least the idea of whisky.
That’s the trick of Pure Malt, that fun little deception in the opening.
After the first half hour or so, when the dazzle dies down, you’re left with a lingering aroma that is almost an identical match for the original A*Men (most of the “Pure” flankers have the A*Men DNA, but this one smells more like pure A*Men than the others). Pure Malt has, perhaps, traces of a slightly sweeter caramel note.
It is a good scent, but just be aware that what you’re paying for is that first half hour of whisky, and after that you’re holding a bottle of A*Men that you can use as backup when your actual bottle of A*Men runs out.
shnur0ck – :
Pure Malt alongside Pure Havane are the crowning glory of the A*Men line.
This is an intoxicating mix of fruits and boozy notes, on a base of woods. In fact the base of woods mixed with the fruits and malt give off a slight sweet tobacco note to my nose. Nothing like Havane, but’s it’s nuance is there.
Perfect winter scent… warm, cozy and inviting. This invokes visions of a warm cottage with a roaring fireplace, a nice cognac and a sweet pipe.
Just outstanding, a man’s scent. Any age can pull it off if you’re looking for a mature scent.

This is the only one from the TM line that I actually like. Everything that I dislike in the original one is refined and toned down every so slightly to make this an enjoyable fragrance worth wearing. I do not get a “boozy” or “woody” or even “cherry blast” as some have mentioned from this one. What I get instead in the opening is if you can imagine sticking your nose into a box of “Fruity Pebbles” cereal. It does smell sweet indeed, but unlike the original not sweet enough or strong enough to knock a buzzard off a shit wagon like the original offering.
This goes from a sweet opening to one of the most amazing dry downs of caramel, a little chocolate thrown in as well as some vanilla. To me this really has no middle notes it goes straight from the sweet, fruity opening, to the comforting and rich gourmand dry downs. I smelled Pure Havane as well but that reminded me too much of Bvlgari “Man In Black” and I think Bvlgari does it better in that instance. Something too off putting to my nose especially in the first few minutes that almost makes me nauseous. Once past that stage it is great, but it it just waiting to get to that point that I am not willing to risk.
Pure Malt is very long lasting on me. Just two good bursts and I am getting at least 10 hours off of this and after wearing it last night was able to smell it in the shower once water and steam hit my skin this morning. No problems in that department for me. Projects very nicely too. Not overbearing or overpowering. I can see wearing this in an office situation as long as it is not too close quartered and you are easy on the trigger. Would not think of wearing this in the heat of summer but I would say you can get away with this in the spring even. Performs best in fall and winter though. Very cozy, comforting and delicious smell though. Garnered 2 compliments today on my first day of wearing this. Wish I was able to appreciate the wood and boozy side of this, but as of this writing have not experienced that. Maybe in more wearings of this I will.
Will definitely be reaching for this one as winter approaches here in Chicago and am sure I will repurchase this one in the future once I am finished with my current bottle. As much as I am loving this one already I might just go back and pick up another bottle sooner rather than later.
Very well done with this one. Have not smelled older formulations of this one, but am very satisfied with the current offering. This one offers a little more than enough presence without going overboard. There is nothing I hate more than over spraying something and having to deal with it for an entire day. I can only think of what the other people around me must be thinking if or when that happens. Less is more would apply in this instance for me
gashik – :
I can add absolutely nothing new that hasn’t already been mentioned thousands of times. I love this fragrance and feel that is the best of the A*Men lineup, on par or better than Pure Havane. Pure Malt lasts 10+ hours on my skin and projects excellent for the first 2-hours, and then moderately thereafter. The best part of vacationing up North this Winter is that I can wear Pure Malt on a more regular basis since it’s one of my best Fall/Winter fragrances.
Moreover, it’s a people pleaser and the ladies love, love, love this gem…just ordered my 3rd bottle and I look forward to many more happy years wearing this iconic scent. Mugler, just keep making this awesome fragrances and please don’t diddle with the formulation.

This is absolutely the Jekyll and Mr Hyde of all fragrances in Texas it smells of a musty harsh mess even in the winter but I took it one winter to Alaska w me and this fragrances smelled like fruit Cake very very fruity, just nice! I still can’t wrap my mind around this fragrance and how it is so significantly different in two different climates both being in the winter.

It might be my young nose that isn’t mature enough to appreciate this, but I cannot wear this without getting a searing headache. It’s just a bit too harsh for me personally. I can see why people would love it though. It has a very sweet and fruity and booziness, very whiskey like. The projection and longevity on my skin is absolutely insane. Complete beast. After spraying it once on my wrist, the smell was – although vague – stille there after 30 hours. Mostly a winter fragrance.

Boozy, fruity, mature fragrance with a monstrous performance.

I had vintage 2009, 2012 and 2016 bottles. I even had pure malt creation
2009 was the strongest and best one. But I grew tired of the mid note that rubbery malt smell.
