This has lots of vanilla with this slightly medicinal cherry like smell to it, i suppose more spicy than straight up cherry though. This fragrance does remind me of lynx oud wood and dark vanilla, not trying to put it down because believe me it is a very very nice scent(ambre sauvage). it is like the niche, more complex version of the lynx spray. the longevity is very good on this one as well.

Already seduced by Vanille Charnelle from Goutal’s Les Absolus, I had to try Ambre Sauvage. This fragrance is so interesting. First, I have to say that I haven’t tried Ambre Fetiche.
Ambre Sauvage is beautiful from opening to dry down, sophisticated yet dusty amber. Like carter0012 mentioned, the opening is like a volcano… like for Naomi Goodsir’s Bois d’Ascèse, you get this smell of burning woods. From the very first seconds the amber is already there, but will emerge with the vanilla after this burning peppery bonfire slowly quiets down. I get this image when, in autumn, siting on a cold night around a camp fire, suddenly as the heat and the smell reaches its peak, you feel like your nostrils are saturated with the acrid, pungent smell of the smoke. You get a little bit of that in the opening, but, be reassured… in a poetic way! It is totally bearable!
… then settles a beautiful, deep, dusty amber accompanied by its ever so popular partner, vanilla. I do not find this vanilla to be as sweet as some have experienced. It almost has a honey quality. I think that the fact that patchouli, lavender are part of the mix, it helps to take away our focus from vanilla creating earthy tones, brightness and I am pretty certain that there must be other notes bringing this slightly animalic and rough undertone. The iris, to me, brings more an effect of dust rather than one of «powderiness».
Wearing Ambre Sauvage is like being able to witness the duality of this fragrance that tends to be dry and at the same time, the amber wishes to be unctuous and creamy. Longevity is enormous, +12hrs.
I really love Ambre Sauvage… a must try. An amazing companion for the cold & freezing winter days!

Fantastic. Yes, this is very similar to Ambre Fetiche but different in the top. It has a more herbal/medicinal top line. Then the Fetiche vibe comes but a little darker (with almost a drop of oud and smoke to it). In the final base, there is the amber radiating but when you stick your nose in it the whisp of iris is definitely there. It’s complex and lovely.

Best of the best, my signature perfume !!

I get a hit of the pink pepper in the opening, smelling like a volcano exploding.. intense, and awesome, rich vanilla, powdery iris, amber from the start.. Vanilla without being too sweet cushioned on the powdery iris.. I find it doesn’t change much, the spice tone down from the opening in the first 15 minutes, but never really fully goes away. The iris fades out in the dry down, into more of a basic amber / vanilla / patchouli.
The patchouli to me is subtle and balanced in the base, just giving depth without making it smell dirty or green..
It’s very beautiful, one of my most enjoyed this year, I get 12 hours longevity, and a good 2 hours modest projection.

Pretty much agree with Douceamere, – opening just like Ambre Fetiche one, that develops into unexpected too-much of a vanilla thing, I was waiting for something “Sauvage”, wild and fierce to appear, nope, house cat it is.
Saying that, I still want to buy a bottle or big decant of it, as apart of Annick Goutal’s ambers – where else to find beautifully crafted, delicate and rough at the same time, carnal accord like this one?..

Very animalic and leather. Styrax is missing in the pyramid, by the way.

I tested this briefly in Paris when it launched, next to Ambre Fetiche. The bottle is beautiful; heavy and elegant, with a nice, solid cap. The scent, otoh, I wish I liked better than I did.
The top notes are quite similar to Ambre Fetiche – you *know* this is an amber perfume. Unfortunately, after the promising beginning, it quietens considerably and becomes softer, airier and more vanillic.
Overall I would say that it is softer and less dense than AF, especially in the middle and drydown. While AF remains resinous and powerful throughout, Ambre Sauvage softens to a quiet, slightly powdery vanilla base.
Ambre Sauvage is pleasant, but definitely not “sauvage”. I thought Ambre Fetiche was the superior amber, and at a lower price too.
