Description
Aerin Lauder, Estee Lauder’s granddaughter, founded her lifestyle brand in 2011 and has since been popular for her cosmetics, home items, jewelry and purses. The house is expanding their offer to include perfumes and is launching five of them in 2013. – Gardenia Rattan, Amber Musk, Lilac Path, Ikat Jasmine, and Evening Rose will launch in November. The creator wanted to provide a scent for each mood and time of year.
All fragrances were developed with assistance by Firmenich perfumers. The collection was inspired by fabrics that Aerin uses in her creations. Even the outer boxes feature fabric designs from Lauder’s line. Each bottle is crowned with a differently colored stone that incorporates the color of one of the ingredients in the perfume — green for Gardenia Rattan, pale brown for Amber Musk, pink for Lilac Path, white for Ikat Jasmine and purple for Evening Rose.
Amber Musk is designed to be worn in winter,to warm us with aromas of ambrox, coconut water, rose centifolia absolute, benzoin and musk. The carton features design, “Kenlyn,” a personal take on the floral prints that were always part of her grandmother’s home decor. The print is an adaptation of a French document in the Lee Jofa archive that features two birds among exotic flowers and foliage.
The fragrances arrive on the market in November 2013 and will be available for purchas as 50 ml eau de parfum spray

Oh god no, this just smells like a generic department store frag and not like amber at all. Amber is my perfume jam, I almost exclusively wear amber or ambercentric frags and I can’t even smell the amber in this one. It’s funny prev commenters think syrupy dark amber smells cheap because I thnk the opposite. This pale powdery synthetic cloud smells cheap to me, I’ll take a resin heavy indian headshop $5 amber over this milquetoast concoction anyday.
It’s just a massive synthetic musk bomb and if I wanted that I’d wear SL’s L’Orpheline which, though I dislike syn musk, makes me feel very calm and comforted despite myself.
Sillage and longevity are monstrous on me. I think probably because most commentors might be anosmic to synthetics whereas I only ever use fragrance free toiletries/ cosmetics/ laundry detergent so one tiny spray under each pit has resulted in unbearably strong wafts that last all day. Blech. Just as well I was gifted this sample because I wouldn’t touch it with a bargepole otherwise and I might leave it in a nice restaurant or public place for someone else to appreciate more.
smollvell – :
This has quite a masculine component to it for me and I enjoy it. I am new to amber and have always liked musk. This little gem is going to be great for layering and I will keep it in my collection solely for that purpose. The wear time keeps me having to apply it twice in a day, and three times if I wear it out at night, but I don’t mind. I like being able to add more or let it wear off and apply something else.
rezyume2010 – :
I ordered a sample pack of Aerin perfume minis to try out, this is my first one to smell.
cupcake vanilla, ordinary clean musk and the slightest hint of a very green, young coconut. There is a green vegetation smell that eventully gives way to a generic amber that smells quite synthetic but many would classify as ‘warm’.
Just for a second, Makes me think of freshly woven palm baskets in the breeze, until you find out they were made from Pier 1 and they are not made of palm but wicker. It is Not an earth shattering perfume, and doesnt stand out or try to. Very weak projection and longevity. Im not at all impressed with this one, definitely not worth the price. Ive smelled Bath&BodyWorks and Victoria Secret body sprays that were better.

I don’t get it. I disliked Tangier Vanille INTENSELY… and at the first whiff of Amber Musk I thought, oh no, this is similar. But I love it. It’s so light, it’s pretty. How did they do that?
paniigor – :
Like Tangier Vanilla, this does strange things on my skin, so to answer the poster who asked if she was the only one who didn’t smell the scent described by others, you are not alone. Amber Musk doesn’t smell like vinegar on me, but it doesn’t smell like amber or musk either. On me, it is a very “fresh scent” which is confusing since I don’t see anything listed that would make it smell “fresh”. It isn’t unpleasant, but for a big musk fan, disappointing. Where’s the musk?
filips – :
This is one of those frustrating experiences with scent: I say frustrating because you do love the scent, but it is fleeting, vanishing before your very…nose 🙂 And I guarantee you I am not one that needs a strong fragrance to enjoy my perfume: I love something even though its sillage isn’t strong, but this is just plain ridiculous! Damn it! Why create such a beautiful scent and not ensure at least a decent (decent, not extra-ordinary) longevity?
ninusik – :
Perfect blend of Amber & Musk.
Soft , powdery & close to the skin.
it just puts out good vibes 🙂 a comforting scent to have.
Sillage and longevity could be a bit better though.
iamboo – :
Ambroxan and benzoin notes create a powdery, woody scent. It’s complimented with light florals. The coconut note is very subtile and the musk note is well balanced. I like this perfume but it’s not very strong or long lasting.
russkiy04.63 – :
Oh AmberMusk! I do love you, especially when layered with any of the AL rose scents, but unfortunately, like every AL I have sampled, you leave me after 30 minues, max. Very beautiful, cozy, big-comfy-sweater-by-the-fire smell, but I just can’t see myself reapplying every half hour or so. I’m so glad I tried you though.
kolbaser – :
I love this! What a beautiful, simple Amber scent. For some reason, out of the bottle, the scent evokes memories of my Dad. He must have worn a scent that was something like this. I couldn’t say. But on my skin it’s transformed. It warms up and sweetens on my skin to be so pleasing! I could wear this regularly I think. I would love to try the body cream also.
Disezisuava – :
Estee Lauder really out did themselves with the whole Aerin line. I got 1 sample and it’s been like a domino effect. No disappointments yet. This like the other, extremely pure and fresh. It’s light amber and musk. You can still breathe after smelling it. This is perfect for office space or class. Anywhere you don’t want to be a bother to people who may have allergies. It’s very hard to find fragrances that smell this good and not be overpowering.
arhangelm – :
Am I the only one who smells a vinegar-ish undertinge to all the fragrances in the Aerin line? It’s especially loud in this one. Maybe Aerin’s line is incompatible with my skin chemistry . I’m sad, I wanted to love this line. I tried Ikat Jasmine and loved it, still do, but all the others aren’t pleasing to my nose in any way. I do get the slight coconut smell at the beginning but that fades too quickly. It then settles into a vinegar smell I had to scrub off a half hour later.
nelutu – :
I won’t purchase full size.
I am testing the sample from Sacks 5th Ave.
It’s a very delicate and a very feminen.
I would but it for a young woman.
If I would see an old man in his sixty and his 20-22 years old lover- this would be her scent.
It’s delicate but some how sexy.
Musk and roses give these sexy … females… notes…

I received a free sample of this with an EL make-up order.
At first, I was about to give it a glowing review, as I really liked it for the first few minutes.
But then, I realised that it was simply too one dimensional.
On the plus side, the ingredients smelled OK and not overly artificial.
Which, quite frankly, appears to be something of a rarity, these days.
However, there just wasn’t any structure, or journey, or any real depth to it.
I was just sitting there wishing it would produce something (almost anything) else…
Some fruit (peach, maybe?), or some other white flower, or something.
It didn’t even feel refreshingly simple and beautiful.
It just felt far more like they had forgotten to add some of the ingredients.
It’s perfectly nice, as far as it goes; but, nice doesn’t really cut it and it doesn’t go nearly far enough.
It’s like talking to a good looking, charming person, who you suddenly realise has very little discernable personality, or warmth.
You hope it’s just that s/he’s a little shy and some new facet will, eventually, emerge; but, no.
Even years later they are the same.
For sheer surface prettiness, it’s still maybe worth a 6.5/10.
However, I wouldn’t bother paying for anything less than an 8, personally.
Drego 64 – :
Incredibly pretty amber, with musk and vanilla undertones. Sadly this has such poor longevity that I can’t justify a full bottle. I wish that Aerin would do something to improve the longevity of their perfumes, or perhaps reduce the price.
Olechushka – :
Very simple warm scent. On me this is mainly warm amber and it is quite nice in it’s simplicity. Unfortunately it suffers from very poor sillage and longevity on my skin. Overall, I do not think it is worth the price tag that this is being sold for and I feel that there are probably much cheaper and better options on the market for this type of scent.
Альфред Султанов – :
I really, really want to like Aerin fragrances, but I find them uninteresting. It’s like being seated at a dinner party next to a boring conversationalist – not horrible, not offensive, but also not captivating, not enthralling. At this price point, I expect more.
Overall, this smells like a hundred other warm, ambery smells. Tropical opening (maybe the coconut?) which fades to a sweet, non-descript amber.
Yaguar077 – :
This is absolutely beautiful.
I am a fan of amber, musk, and coconut so when I got a little carded sample of this from Sephora I couldn’t believe my luck. On my skin this is pretty true to name. Warm amber, not gooey and dripping but not dry either. A bit resinous. The musk is clean and supporting in roll here, a nice pleasant background note. The coconut I actually smell, it is very subtle but just adds a layer of cream and a slight sweetness to the whole affair.
I am finding silage and longevity variable. On my hand on first test it was strong and long lasting, but wearing more traditionally now I’m finding it far less potent. I’ll need much more testing, but if you can get it to work for your skin (Aerin WHY can’t you make perfumes that last?) I think it’s a winner.
Edit: Sadly I was right and it didn’t last worth beans. If it were $50 I’d happily buy and reapply. But it is a great deal more than that and I expect far better performance out of $$$$ perfumes.
Leseledge – :
I do like the Aerin fragrances in general and I appreciate their simple, classic scents. The scents may not be original, but they are all nicely done and easily ‘go-to’ types of fragrances and in general office-safe and crowd-pleasing.
Having said that, Amber Musk, while not a bad fragrance or scent, it is my least fave of the Aerin frag’s that I own. It smells nice for about an hour (max), and then it is gone, not even a skin scent, unfortunately.
I do detect the amber and the musk and I get a touch of sandalwood, so it is nicely blended; but as a few other reviewers, sadly this one is about in the same league as a Bath and Body Works body spray as far as scent and especially longevity goes.
To me, the Aerin fragrances are more simple, classic scents, not terribly unique, but reliable and ‘safe’ and I think they are more for the more mature women, 40’s and older; those who like simple, classic type scents, nothing too fancy or too sweet or too fruity, etc. Amber Musk for me just lacks any originality and especially lacks longevity. I like the scent, it is pleasing, warm and inviting and cozy and welcoming; just not long-lasting at all. But I still will try a few others from this line, I have roughly over half of them already, and am pleased. This one is just a wee bit of a disappointment. Still a nice scent, just lacks longevity.
Grindel – :
Is it distinctive?
-No
Potent?
-No
Not unique, not noticible.
Don’t get me wrong, to be fair it is a decent scent but it lacks the depth and performance.
I’ve read all the negative comments below and yet blind bought this one.
It’s not what you expect an amber scent to be. Clean and musky (getting narciso rodriguez vibes-not a dupe though). Amber is there but not dominant on my skin. I guess coconut acts as a creamy base. Benzoin gives a sweet edge. It’s neither sexy nor girly. Quite comforting. I feel like, i can wear it all year round because it’s not heady at all. It doesn’t have the wintery kick though.
I’ve got it from a huge discount, pretty much dirt cheap (35$ 100ml). So i’m glad i didn’t invest on it. Despite the fact that it doesn’t smell synthetic and whatnot, honestly i’ld never pay the full price. It doesn’t worth it because silage is non existant and lacks the oomph.
To sum up, it’s a lovely skincent without the va va voom effect. Good for office and casual day time wear. Bare that in mind, all the bloggers-vloggers got sent this one.
If you have a better version of it on your mind, please feel free to msg me.
7888-bars – :
This scent is nice but nothing special. Much better amber musky scents out there to spend your money on. Plus, the longevity on this fragrance is dismal. It was gone before an hour was up. Not anywhere near worth the price for a forgettable, short-lived fragrance.
AlexLion – :
Oh no… I wish I had read the Fragrantica reviews before buying. I purchased both the perfume spray and the body cream, after smelling Amber Musk on a blotter.
Unfortunately for me, the pretty ambroxan opening is short-lived, and the dry down is a somewhat spicy lily of the valley floral soup. (Odd, because I don’t even see LOTV as one of the notes.) I agree with an earlier reviewer who said this reminded her of Jo Malone’s Ginger Lily perfume. With my chemistry, there is also a resemblance to Cartier’s Baiser Vole L’Eau (the one that came out in 2015 which has a frosted pink-peach bottle.)
I don’t dislike Amber Musk, just find it a bit of a misnomer, as well as redundant in my collection, and wish I could return it.
The body cream is better – retains the opening notes better and doesn’t turn as floral.
Sillage is small, and longevity is so-so.
Kuler – :
A soft, warm, floral on a base of white musk, ambrox and sweet vanilla. Creamy wood accord. Not as sweet on me as others describe, and not that strong on vanilla either, instead I am reminded of the early Prada ambers but in a sheer skin scent. The coconut is pale and watery. The florals are fairly pronounced on me, a soft pale rose with a generic white floral, not LOTV on me, just a pleasant white floral accord. Excellent for the office or professional settings, as are all of the Aerin fragrances I have tested, as they are understated, inoffensive and wear close. I am looking for a new amber to replace some I have recently drained, but while this one is pleasant, not for me a FB option.
I do like a lighter amber musk option, something that is not too syrupy, strong, noir, or musky, but the search continues. A very pleasant journey, so no complaints. I can see where the Aerin amber and musk could be a real winner for someone else. I do get decent longevity, about five or six hours. Some people are anosmic to this one, though, can not smell anything at all, or they just smell vanilla. I base this on my experience asking a number of folks, and half smelled nothing, a third smelled a sweet vanilla, and only a few got the musk and florals that I discern.
Sage76 – :
I don’t get coconut, or amber. This is kind of straight up vanilla with only little bit of musk on drydown. I got small sample of it with GWP so I was able to try it out several times-its nice but I feel like I smelled it before? Maybe Tommy Bahamas for women?
There is something familiar in it that I can’t put my finger on. Its a nice scent but lasting power is not good. I got barely an hour out of it. And for a price, it should definitely last longer than that. Because there is nothing that irritates me more than expensive perfume that doesn’t last
msz839Bessinepome – :
Too much musk for the amount of amber. Sharp and acrid rather than the inviting warmth I prefer from an amber fragrance. Not a fan at all. Reminds me of Amor Amor, but at a much higher price.
stolyr4ik – :
.. but where is the musk or the amber? Also where did the scent even go? I sprayed it on an hour ago. Is this a Bath and Body Works body spray? Nemat’s Amber Musk perfume oil that is $10 at Whole Foods is way better than this..
MasterGeorge – :
Smells nothing like amber or musk to me. Its more on the sweet side.
I even got my mom to smell it on my wrist and the first thing she said was ‘this is so sweet’. When I told her it was amber and musk she was like ummm no. not even close. ha-ha
I can smell vanilla and sugar and Musk but the musk is very minimal.
Salvage is weak. You’re going to be reapplying a lot throughout the day.
On the up side I still do like this perfume and would buy maybe a travel size or a roller ball but not worth it full price at this stage in my book.
Сергей351973 – :
Utterly forgettable and rather boring. Nothing really ambery or musky about it at all. Smells more like a candle – cheap and absolutely incomplete. A total waste of money.
Go for a real amber fragrance or a true musk – one that actually smells like its namesake. There are so many others that are several miles ahead of this weak dreck.
wowan1998 – :
Very pleasant smelling and feminin.
This scent you could wear any time and smell great, maybe get a few compliments.
Not dangerous or sexy just very pretty.
QQwert74 – :
This is so delicately soft and pretty. It’s such a comforting scent that makes you feel warm and cozy, especially on days that call for a lighter perfume. This is definitely a very light scent that needs to be reapplied every so often. The great thing about it though is that no matter how many times you reapply, it never offends anyone.
wtf_52 – :
It is a soft pretty amber and musc scent, I don’t think the marketing is trying to make it something else !? I would agree the Aerin Lauder are expensive, I did find mine on eBay for a good price, so all worth it for a scent that smells deliciously soft and cozy!!
LeperVIK – :
The consensus of this smell when I had my mom and boyfriend smell it is that it’s “nice but not special.”
But, I really like it.
Maybe it doesn’t have to special. It’s just a musky amber that smells really, really nice. The touch of coconut and rose is unique but you have to search for it to even notice. Otherwise just a very well done amber musk. It wears soft and feels warm like a sweater.
1slav1 – :
Ultralight.
doorhanlviv – :
I can’t really say if this smells of amber and musk at all, like it says in the name. But it’s quite certain, that it smells good. It’s familiar smelling for me. Somehow reminds me of someone else’s perfume from the past.
I was quite surprised by it, it’s one of the best perfumes I’ve tried for months. I really can’t describe the notes, it seems that I don’t get the notes listed here. What I like about it, is how light and tender it is, fresh even, but not in an aquatic way.
Maybe, it’s the ambroxan note, that is making this one special, but it’s not a typical amber scent.
EDIT: I must say it’s simply amazing, it lingers around for a long time and it’s so lovely to smell it. Just a perfect scent! I hope to add it into my collection one day.
kolyanetto – :
Aerin Amber Musk is one of my new favorites! I love amber scents and have many that I would consider to be very intense, such as TF’s Amber Absolute and Kuumba Made’s Amber Paste. I love both of those ambers for their intensity. But I love Aerin’s Amber Musk for it’s lack of intensity — it’s subtle, beautiful, feminine, and sophisticated. I would describe this as a “sheer” fragrance. Amber Musk is light but warm, and though it does have lasting power, there’s not a lot of sillage. It starts off with warm, soft, slightly sweet florals and dries down to a subtle amber and vanilla. The vanilla note isn’t childish or sweet — I think the amber actually tempers it a bit so it comes off smelling sophisticated instead of cloying. It’s the perfect fragrance for the office or a romantic evening, and it’s the one I reach for when I want to smell amazing but don’t want to overwhelm people around me with sillage. It lasts about 5 hours before I need to touch it up, longer if I apply it with a heavy hand. One of the upsides to sheer fragrances like this one is that if I do decide to go heavy with it, I’m still not knocking anyone over.
mmuse – :
I tried a sample of this and at first spray, it was just divine. Warm amber, bit of vanilla and later comes the musk….ever so gently. I was trying to figure out what other fragrance this reminds me of as it felt like I had something similar to this perfume. Then after a while, I figured it out, it reminded me a bit of Jo Malone’s Dark Amber and Ginger lily cologne.
Both perfumes are beautiful and I will definitely purchase Amber Musk as I love the fragrance and love the bottle design.
alex_mars – :
I bought the roll on. I should have tried it on in the store or had a sample first. It is neither amber-y or musk-y. I will not buy again, I feel deceived by the description on the Estee Lauder website.
kudivik – :
Am I the only person who smells no Amber or Musk? This is vanillin and frankly smells almost identical in ways to Cinema by Yves Saint Laurent. I am going to have to retest because it’s all I’m getting…
Ан_дрей – :
I find these Aerin frags similar in style to Jo Malone however they are not nearly as good – IMHO.
I am wearing this perfume today and it has reasonable longevity and sillage.
Not overly amber or musk to be honest, but easy to wear and inoffensive. Probably a good intro to amber and musk if you like your perfumes very light and completely unchallenging.
Would I be heartbroken if it was discontinued? No. This is a one bottle wonder for me.
All I can really add is that this is “nice”.
akkerman – :
I’m glad I acquired a sample of Aerin Amber Musk as oppose to a blind buy or impulse purchase at the EL counter. ….For it’s listed price Amber Musk is not anything that smells rich with upscale notes and composition. It smells vaguely of a generic modern spicy scent – similar to the now discontinued original Halle Berry fragrance…. I pick up no coconut or rose in it. The amber and musk are barely there. It’s a pleasant enough scent but not something I’d invest full size in.
lukja – :
Beautiful combination and it’s done so so well. It reminds me of “Calgons fresh start line- hot date” body mist but this is much richer, much classier. Gorgeous scent. It’s warm and cozy and feminine. Lots of Amber and vanilla with a tiny pinch of something fresh. Very sexy scent too, very strong. But beautiful done like I said. Love it. I think this is a timeless classic and could easily be someone’s signature fragrance. I’m wearing it now in a classy black dress and it makes me feel so womanly!
baho32 – :
– meh. Some amber (well, ambroxan anyway) and some musk. Doesn’t develop, instead becomes a kind of chemical soup, none of the notes particularly show through, and it disappears nearly altogether, after an hour or two. If I was given this, I wouldn’t wear it. But I have a whole sample set of Aerin, so I have hopes for the others….
beenterteno – :
If you love “amber” fragrances but are sick of it in dessert-y, overly sweet compositions, then Amber Musk is definitely something you ought to seek out. It’s a well-balanced fragrance that creates an amber feeling in a sophisticated, powdery/airy way – no heavy, cheap-smelling syrupy concoction here.
Amber Musk is somewhat invigorating despite the “comfy” notes listed. Coconut water adds a light amount of sweetness and rose brings a facet of opulence to the composition.
I am wearing this at work today because, while it is a rich fragrance, it’s neutral and doesn’t project terribly far on my skin. I feel so pretty wearing Amber Musk; I’m holding my head a little higher today!
donsova – :
Hubby and I both love the musk and soft rose combo. Office worthy and so lovely. Lasts a long time too. Would love to have a bottle but can find a similar one for the price. $100+ for 50ml??
One spray on me
Sillage: about a foot
Longevity: 4 hours then whiffs trail as I move my arm
Rating: 4/5
nestul – :
Loved the scent so much, love the combination of notes as I’m a huge benzoin and rose fan, however it was returned as it did not last at all! I would also spray heaps and it sat so close to the skin. Well, my skin anyway as it tends to eat up a lot of soft creamy fragrances (oh why can’t I wear you, Prada Candy?!) If it works on your skin however, I’d pay the big bucks for it. It really does smell lovely.
AJIEIIIA0789 – :
Probably the best of the Aerin collection, I like it, now, is it worth the high price tag, not sure..it is smooth, a bit sweet, the drydown leaves a great trail on the skin, but don’t expect huge longevity, this is a skin scent overall..I wouldn’t say it is plain, I like it better than Narciso Rodriguez Essence, it is more complex, but looking at the notes, I don’t get them all…I will say if I were given a bottle, I would happily wear it.!!
update I bought a bottle it is a sweet intimate scent, I enjoy it very much!!
innongePori – :
I was so excited when I learnt of the notes, and thought it might be a higher quality/longer lasting version of jpgautiers ‘ classiqs (summer version)’, and oh was I so very wrong! This perfume is completely void of personality, origionality, style, and (for the rediculously high pricetag) one might think the house would make up for this by making sure it was potent… and therefore slightly redeeming the house,s very young reputation. I cant help but feel that miss lauded is just cashing in on her grandmother,s well deserved rep and her name. I wouldn’t doubt if she knew almost nothing before setting sail in the wild waves of modern perfumery. The one aspect that I am grateful for is that her line is being sold exclusively in the richer ..neighborhood, not mine! Cuz God knows that my neighborhood macy,s is filled with enough run of the mil mainstream garbage perfume 🙂
Valkiriya_36 – :
Amber Musk is my favorite out of the 5. It’s a very easy to wear fragrance that can be worn anywhere. I agree with some of the others that the notes are nothing out of the ordinary, but it’s the well balanced composition that makes Amber Musk so special. The notes blend together wonderfully, and the scent left on your skin is heavenly. The first words that come to my mind are silky, smooth and delicious :). I can see myself buying a whole bottle when I run out of my sample.
Update: 5 hours on my skin and this fragrance still smells as warm and cozy as it did in the beginning. I just want to bathe myself in it. Cannot stop smelling my wrist :).

Like perfume I’d smelled before in a general way and I didn’t care for it. On the other hand, if you really like lots of vanilla & amber, it’s for you.

I find with Aerin Lauder’s fragrances that they are over-priced, especially for being rather ordinary. I took a quick hit of this today at Saks and thought “I can find this combo elsewhere.”

This fragrance is now available exclusive in Neiman Marcus. I was looking for something new and along my normal woodsy tones I’ve become a slave to, this was NOT it. I can’t believe I let the associates talk me into getting this Amber Musk knowing I’ve been a whore to TomFord since 2006. (( Lol )) well maybe the free gift was the deal breaker.
About Amber Musk, at first whiff, seems very strong with maybe lotus wood but it dies after maybe 30 minutes of so. The base notes are very light and after 4-5 hours seems to smell like powder. ( sigh ) not for me, I’m going back again to TF.
