My favorite Xerjoff and to me, the King of night. This composition has road presence for days, unique style for weeks and has had me enamored with it’s mind and mood altering power since I first got it under my nose. Showcasing the dirty side of a beautiful thing to absolute perfection. Pure Arabian nights magic that makes me feel like Aladin on a date night with Princess Jasmin cruising the star filled skies of Agrabah on magic carpet.

Scent – citrusy jasmine & vanilla.
Season/Time of Day – I prefer to use this one in the colder months, day or night.
    Projection – I did get noticed, I didn’t get a compliment.
    Longevity – I get 24hrs consistently.

A very bold, extravagant fragrance, opening with sexy white floral indoles and settling on a thick base of alluring cashmere wood and a touch of benzoin. The cashmere note will be familiar to users of Widian Black I, which is uses rose instead of white florals. I don’t get much oud, apart from a subtle feces note that sits close to the skin in the first 5 minutes. The bulk of the animalics the indoles. Had I not checked the pyramid here I would have guessed the white floral accord was predominantly made up of orange blossom.

It was me who downvoted the oud as the most noticable note for now. And I’m really happy I could do that! Maybe my passion for middle eastern fragrances has gone too far but I would hardly call this juice an oud fragrance. Oud is present yet very very quiet and down-to-earth. There’s a slight fecal effect but I think it comes from the indolic jasmine which steals the show. All notes are amazingly blended to give a full body impression of jasmine with many unusual facets. The longevity is jaw-dropping so be careful when trying it out, you will go to bed with this one! The dry out is very pleasant in its last hours, I got a creamy cocoa acord which may come from the pairing of benzoin and vanilla. Even oud is not present as I hoped, Al-Khatt is very impressive and definitely lovable! First white floral I don’t find ‘too girly’!

Fragrantica, you have this spelled incorrectly. It’s Al-Khatt, not Al-Khat.

Veins of multifaceted oud laos running through a full body jasmine heart that lingers for hours, unfolding shades of animalistic alchemy.
The mystical olfactive cocktail rests over a warming musky base, dressed up in sensual vanilla and resins.
Al Khatt smells as if it belonged to a different world, every minute of its life on skin is packed with opulent aromas of exoticism.

Th dirty animalic oud note is prominant but there is some light sweet note as well which is detectable. It is a good oud perfume but this is not really the type of oud I prefer. I like tuned down european-style oud more than the pure oriental oud which is very strong.

Exquisite. One of the most beautiful blends of Oud with jasmine. The notes are further enhanced by addition of bergamot, cashmeran, vanilla, oakmoss, and benzoin. On my skin, there is no indolence detected at all. It is a beautiful blend of jasmine and high quality Cambodian Oud with the other facets lightly lurking in the background. Absolutely beautiful blending with enormous sillage and projection, this perfume is a superb example of Arabian style modern perfumery of the highest order. Immediately transporting you to a higher plane and worth every penny of the overindulgent luxury it is. Absolutely glorious radiant modern Oriental perfumery.

Al-Khat to me begins with an alluring sweetness stemming from the Jasmine, which quickly turns indolic once you approach the spot sprayed closer.
This jasmine is paired with an indian oud which joins with the jasmine to create a fecal tone in the distance – it smells less creamy than popular fecal accords such as that in Dior’s Leather Oud, but rather a more dry and distant accord that smells more like a ‘barnyard’ rather than a direct reference to feces.
One of the strongest facets here is the benzoin, which is so warm and adjacently sweet by way of the vanilla, wherein the sweetness is rich first and sweet on exhale rather than overtly loud and sweet.
This makes Al-Khat a white floral that refrains from being overtly femme as well as breezy and light, for the oud and benzoin give way to a weight while keeping the fresh and ‘pretty’ beauty of the white florals while keeping in tact the heavy, complex, and exotic aspects that the Indian oud and benzoin demand as being two radically distinctive and, in this composition, strongly masculine aspects.
Wonderfully dichotomous, rich, luxurious, and unique as hell.
    9/10

    A Nice Amber perfume + Ass = Al-Khat
It has a very vulgar note that carries the amber resinous fragrance. Hope it turns on some voluptuous women!
    At this price it better.

One word for the whole oud stars range: Luxurious. This is like olfactory jewellery. A rich blend of wild jasmine sweet incense bitter vanilla dry soapy vetiver. Thw oud becomes more obvious with time and has sweet presence. Its isnt animalic or thick. Every component is obvious to the nose. However the perfume does not shift a lot. The top notes go off quickly to reveal the opulent heart and base. I can put this one in the category of Roja Amber Oud and MFK Satin Mood and definitely the best out of the 3.

Can’t add much more to what other reviewers have already said. It’s stuff like this that makes me wonder why I ever bothered to spend a penny on designer fragrances in the past. The sheer potency of it…
This is definitely not one of those sub-standard fragrances that you can just bring up close to your nose within the first 10minutes of it leaving the bottle. The oud is way too intense for that. I don’t directly spray it anywhere above my elbows, either; one pump on each wrist will suffice. Anymore than that and you’ll repel every living creature within an arm’s length. lol.
All that aside, the best thing about this fragrance, for me, is the great balancing act between the oud and jasmine in the mix (Spot on @freddinos). It’s simply glorious.

Al-Khat is a beautiful fragrance. Its Jasmine is a niche version of Alien’s jasmine, mixed with oud in the style of Oud Palao (oud leaning towards the barnyard end of the spectrum).
The opening is beautiful yet skanky, but fear not as the oudy skank dissipates soon, leaving the star of the show -jasmine- to shine.
I agree with both reviewers finding this ultra masculine or ultra feminine, as Al Khat has a true duality within it: its jasmine is amazingly beautiful and delicate yet its oud is manly and assertive. The drydown is very musky/masculine. I had it in my full bottle to buy list but removed it following the 2 ml spray I purchased: only because it’s not appropriate for day wear for my lifestyle and other ouds are more appropriate for night’s affairs.

This is so sexy that it is unreal. Yes, it is somewhat similar to Alien, but this is not cold and hallow like Alien. This is full, deep, warm, sensual and just down right sexy…did I mention it’s sexy??!! As soon as I opened my sample, I thought “were is my husband when I need him?” It’s that good!!
Edit: I’m very surprised there is no honey in this… in the dry down it smells like there is.

    It’s a very unique/ unusual scent.
I own a bottle of Mamluk, Al-Khat and Lira; and to me Al-khat and Manluk are very much alike. Very close siblings.
Sadly, my nose doesn’t pick up many notes, basically just oud and jasmine.
Silage is enormous and longevity on me was very long lasting.
Overall- this is not for me, I strongly dislike Oud combined with jasmine. I wouldn’t suggest blind buying this fragrance. The bottle is gorgeous and unique.

What a perfume!!? I love Xerjoff creations but this one stands out because of how similar it is to Arabian perfumes.
As many have mentioned, it smells animalistic and I completely agree with that. What I disagree with most is that this smell is only due to the Indian oud notes, which smell barn-yardy or faecally. There is another note that you get if you smell goat or sheep hides, this is the smell of ghazal musk (most likely its aroma chemicals here). Most people in the western countries did not have a chance to go to crafts shops where these hides are prepared, which are abundant in certain areas of the Middle East and North Africa. the smell is very animalistic and that’s what ghazal musk smells like.
There are other sweet notes to tame this down, and as expected they are florals and in this case, it’s the jasmine oil added to this gem.
I am waiting on the dry down to finish this review and will update accordingly.
Update: The dry down is less animalistic and the vanilla can be better smelt there too
Update 2: I was just going through the notes breakdown here and noticed they included cashmeran, so what I was describing as ghazal musk is actually the smell of cashmeran, and here is what I found on it from wikipedia “Although cashmeran has been described by some as a polycyclic musk, it is neither primarily a musk odour ingredient, nor does it belong to the polycyclic musk group as defined by the International Fragrance Association (IFRA). Although there are woody-musky notes to Cashmeran, its odour is complex[3] with notes that are: rich spicy, fruity, chypre, balsamic and vanilla, overall intended to convey the soft sensuous feeling of cashmere (hence the trade name Cashmeran)”

A very luxurious fragrance, you can feel the quality, but it really has a very fecal/animalic note that comes from the jasmine/oud blend, so you should be prepared for an unusual scent, Not for me.

A fruity + jasmine (indolic) + barnyard smell. Excellent stuff.
I first put it on, I found it okay.
BUT!.. shortly after, wow! Awesome fragrance, and I was sold based on the sample. Got a full bottle shortly after.
Probably my favorite Xerjoff so far.

this beast is almost unwearable to me. A very oudy, fecal oudy beast. Bombastic and sweet. Quality though.
Every time i wore this i feel like i am an older arabic man. I can smell the arabian culture in here. Very eastern. These kind of scents make it very contradictive to me as these are very heavy and warm scents but still it gets worn in a very hot climat in the eastern culture where western people would wear this in winter. So i guess there are no rules in perfumerie.

A fascinating opening to this one — a smoky, almost hay-like accord with some sweet notes and idolic florals. There a stemmy sourness to it, but what’s driving it really is the smoky effect of the “oud” (smells like an ashtray) merged with sweet animalics. It’s has a bit of a castoreum thing going on — that sort of overripe, animalic leather that castoreum delivers, but it’s the smoky oud that really makes this work. I don’t know if they’re using any actual oud (for as pricey as Xerjoff is, their stuff is still mass-produced after all), but I personally don’t care as the overall effect is very good — a dry, throat-catching smoke effect that’s rendered most apparent against the fruitier notes. Overall, it’s a clever blend with a distinctly Eastern feel, but quite bodied and oppressive, so it’s not going to be for everyone. One of the better Xerjoffs I’ve smelled, but that’s not saying much.

    USE WITH CAUTION!
When sprayed, this basically smells like jam and butter sitting on top of a steaming cow pat. Pungent, fecal barnyard oud and oakmoss make for a volatile base that will get you noticed for all the wrong reasons.
However, if I dab tiny amounts in discreet places on my body, the effect is quite pleasant. The barnyard becomes more distant and reminds me more of soft, untreated leather, which balances the sweeter aspects as they develop. The jasmine, which feels embedded in benzoin and vanilla, is not overtly sharp and the bergamot adds a subtle juiciness to the opening. A vaguely ashen, earthy note pervades beneath this that recalls to mind twilight air and crumpled leaves.
It definitely smells more feminine in this format. I think of a romantic stroll down a country road on a balmy summer’s eve, next to a girl wearing jasmine perfume. I’ll just try to avoid the cowsheds; Bit of a mood killer.

The scent with an amazing development!
It starts with a perceivable animalic (oud) note. This can evoke by some associations with a cowshed. But the perfume requires time and patience to be developed! Then the agarwood (of very good quality imo) softens its vigor remarkably, and jasmine with some balsamic notes moves to the center of perception. Oud is only slightly noticeable le at the end, but still gives its woody warm base and “ground” to the perfume.
The perfume is highly recommendable to test (as well as the whole Xerjoff’s Oud Star series) for fans of natural oud oriental perfumes.

upon putting this on, i felt ‘slightly fem white floral’, and that there was nothing more to it. then, i scarper to the pc to check fragrantica, and quite honestly, i’m shocked to read that there is even oud in this! i’m not getting ANY oud whatsoEVER!!! the jasmine i agree with and even the slight resinous notes, but i can’t get any oud at all, let alone faecal, barnyard notes. kinda wish i did, though…

By the time I was finally able to stop laughing, I was convinced that the guys at Xerjoff’s must be wizards or something! There’s no other way to explain how they managed to fit a whole stable in a bottle. Especially when it’s filled with all the cows who previously ate the jasmine fields that were surrounding it. It surely delivers in spades, but there’s a little problem here, about what these spades actually deliver. And it’s neither oud nor jasmine… It’s something much-much more horrible, that no one would ever want to happen under his feet…

Ah yes this takes me back to my past when I would go on road trips alot. I would open the car window and lay back, close my eyes to get some sleep then I would be awoken to the sound of cows. The air suddenly filled with the smell of fecal matter. I would open my eyes and I would see hundreds of cows defecating mountains of manure. This fragrance will always remind me of the 30 or so seconds when I would drive past a cow farm. The fecal oud is alive and strong throughout the entire duration of the wearing. It’s the main player so all the other notes are obsolete if you think it will actually tame the fecal accord down. I get a slightly creamy, fecal oud accord with hints of jasmine and bergamot.

  31. :

I’ve been testing out this one for about a year to see where it fits for me. I love “barnyard” scents and this one gives off the slightest fecal undertone to me. Its not offensive as I work in a very public place and actually I have never received so many positive comments. Co workers like when I walk around our office and I have had customers ask me where to get it. I just bought a full bottle and am happy with the purchase(not the price). To me it is a rich, dirty, creamy flower that gives and gives. The silage is amazing and the staying power is shower worthy. Get a sample and try it for your self. If you like loud scents and don’t mind having a strong presence this might be just for you…

Al-Khatt, together with Zafar, have been my favorite composition in the Oud Stars series for some time but, lately, it bores me.
The fragrance opens with an extremely interesting fecal oud note paried to some indolic Jasmine. During the initial phases Al-Khatt is quite a wower if you like challenging stuff. Strongly fecal and dirty, extremely exotic but somewhat fascinating in its carnal iteration of this neglected accord. Unfortunately the jasmine takes brutally over in no time and drives the fragrance towards a more conventional territory. What I’m left with, is a bombastic and overly sweet musky-jasmine base that’s not so distant from Mugler’s Alien. Quite linear, extremely long lasting (almost exasperating), potentially cloying and, in the end, a bit boring too. Mild thumbs up more leaning to neutral.
    Rating: 6.5-7/10

  33. :

    Difficult, this one.
On the one hand : ALIEN, ALIEN, ALIEN.
On the other one : some fecal connotation is certainly noticeable in this juice. Animalic is not for everyone, but then…what is ?
I think the most important point with these kind of “extreme” scents is moderation. One drop does the job, two will ruin your day (and of those around you).
Although I usually wear even the heaviest scents when being at work I am not quite sure if Al-Khatt will make it to the office with me.

I discovered this company at the fair Fragranze 2012 in Florence Italy. It wasn’t easy to find then the store that sells fragrances to the regular customer like me, but in the end I was able to buy the whole line from the site ausliebezumduft.de
I must say that there is a system to buy perfumes Xerjoff paying the relatively low price (the normal price of the bottle of 50 ml is up to US$ 260-325).
Since the Shooting Stars line and the Oud Stars line are the masterpieces of artistic perfumery, it is worth to buy the Shooting Stars – Discovery Sets – Part One and Part Two and Oud Stars Collection – Discovery Set that cost US$ 208 for each of the first two sets and US$ 254 for the Oud collection set. Of course there are the Discovery Sets for
XJ17/17 Collection (US$ 331) and XJ Casamorati 1888 Vintage Collection (US$ 182), but personaly I do not like the last two lines, so I didn’t order them.
In each set there are 6 fragrances of 15ml each and therefore the price for a volume of 50 ml drops to US$116 for Shooting Stars collection and to US$142 for Oud Stars collection instead of USD$ 260 and US$ 325 for full version bottles.
    IT

I love this as a flora, the jasmine is superb, but I don’t think it is an Oud Star. The oud is very earthy and animalic but it disappears very quickly. How does o base note like oud behave like a fleeting top note? I don’t think it warrants the price tag with oud being the high priced accord and not lasting long enough to satisfy my oud craving. The jasmine is nonetheless superb.

  36. :

This opens with bergamont and jasmine giving the scent that Summer freshness. Then the skanky Laotian Oud comes in to the mix and it does have that barnyard stink. Thankfully this only lasts for ten minutes tops and mostly disappears and you can only smell it ever so slightly. It does add a carnal sensuality under the Summer fresh jasmine accord which dominates and after a while it dissappears. So if you can get past the first ten minutes its not a issue. After a few hours the vanille comes into play and slightly sweetens the jasmine accord without it losing that Summer freshness.
The fragrance projects strongly and lasts and the ingredients are top notch. The thing I like about this fragrance which for me makes it stand out is the floral fresh jasmine accord which is perfect for the Summer. Most fragrances have lemon, orange or citrus which makes this one a pleasent change. Though there is no denying that this is more on the feminine side of unisex. Those who are looking for a Oud dominanted fragrance will be disappointed me thinks as it disappears completly forty minutes in.
So to sum up a Summer fresh jasmine dominated fragrance which has the skanky Oud for the first forty minutes then disappears completly. Its floral and gets sweeter without losing that freshness which leans towards the feminine side of unisex. I have to say this would smell great on a woman.
