Description
The first cologne was concocted by an Italian barber residing in Germany. It was a combination of grape spirits, neroli oil, bergamot, lavender and rosemary. The fragrance was named Eau de Cologne, in honor of his German hometown and was launched in 1709.
The scent of Eau de Cologne received the admiration of European royalty; however its cost was too high for a commoner to afford. Therefore, the success of the Eau de Cologne prompted countless other business to develop similar scents to the original and sell them under the name of Eau de Cologne.
Today, Eau de Cologne has become a generic term for a fragrance with essential oils concentrations of 2% to 5%. Absolute Cologne 绝对古龙 was launched in 2015.
