Description

The new Elizabeth Arden fragrance is dedicated to modern, dynamic and elegant woman, reflecting the energy and enthusiasm of the city using a timeless game of black with glamorous details in gold.

The new fragrance of the 5th Avenue Collection by Elizabeth Arden takes us for a walk full of energy and contrast. First steps belong to citrus (bergamot), in agreement with juicy fruit notes of peach and golden apple. The beginning of the composition perfectly transmits energy pulse of New York, with a touch of sensuality introduced by the heart aroma. Juices of black currant intertwine with an exquisite bouquet of flowers (night blooming jasmine, plum blossom, peony) with scents complemented by the cozy, warm and sensual blend of notes in the base (vanilla, tonka bean, musk, sandalwood, golden amber).

5th Avenue NYC comes in a glass bottle that is designed on the model of modern architecture of New York and skyscrapers on Manhattan. The tall and slender bottle is available as 75 and 125 ml, while the perfume arrives as eau de perfume. It is presented as a limited edition for 2013.

This perfume I could wear it everyday in any type of situation and feel great because what I love about is it smells like vanilla but there is this underlying very clean smell to it too…so its not sickly sweet vanilla…I almost get a smell like….freshly washed clothes mixed with vanilla I know it sounds strange but it works and it smells great I don’t see how this could offend anyone.

Lovely fragrance. it i a warm tonka vanilla fragrance but still smells fresh..it can be worn year round. When i first sprayed it, i can swear i smelled coconut. Now i smell more white creamy chocolate. Very underrated fragrance and if you see this beauty grab it as it is now quite discounted. i have the large 3.4 oz and gorgeous bottle with NYC on the label.

Nothing exciting about it .. Nothing interesting but it’s not bad. Boring and unnoticeable but not offensive you can wear it when you want to be invisible i guess. I even don’t know why i bought it , i think i bought it only because the price was discounted.

Nothing special on this one, just a day to day summer wear. Won’t upset anyone, mostly goes unnoticed on me. Smells just to generic…

At times I am not sure how I feel about this, and at other times I think I like this.
I agree with Heathw619’s review of this. And I agree, I like overly warm scents for my house, not for my body, lol. I like a little warmth, but overly warm scents can give me a headache. This is a touch warm, so that “works for me”… “Whisper of a scent” –love that description.
To me, this has a throwback type of scent, at times this feels like it is trying to be an 80’s fragrance, sometimes a 70’s fragrance, and even sometimes a 90’s fragrance. Sounds confusing…? -that is how this fragrance sort of leaves me, a bit confused.
I do like the soft powdery scent to this, not too heavy on the powdery notes, so my nose appreciates that. I have to really sniff to pull apart the notes, so this is blended pretty well. If anything I pick up vanilla the most. But yet not overly vanilla-scented. I think I do like this enough and it is not really like anything that I own, so I dig it. I do agree with the reviewer who said at times this leans a touch unisex…….and again, there is more confusion as to what this really is supposed to be/smell like….But, oddly enough, I think that is part of it’s charm. Can’t really think of anything this smells like. I do have Victoria`s Secret Dream Angels Heavenly, and I see some similarities there. All in all this has a throwback type scent, can be slightly unisex, slightly powdery scent. I would not wear this to the office, as I feel the notes can be a little harsh to some noses. I mean, any perfume can be, but this one..I just would not wear to the office, not really a crowd-friendly-scent, imho. Sort of too much going on. And there I am back to not being sure how I feel about this one, lol..
If I had to sum this up in as few words as possible, I would say a soft vanilla powdery scent with a touch of amber/warmth/sandalwood. Not sure the younger gals would really go for this (in general). And the jury is still out with me on this one…It is a little different in today’s world of modern fragrance, yet sort of familiar if you were around in the 70’s/80’s/90’s..

The start is cheap, plasticy. After 10 min, I thought of Christina Aguilera and maybe RIhanna Nude. OK, but just a repeat. Very musky, powdery. The large black sticker on the bottle is a bit heavy. A simple black glass would have been much nicer.

I love the original 5th Ave. but this one is generic / dryer sheets / returning it to the store SOON.

It’s been a while that 5th avenue and it’s flankers are under my radar and I’ve decided to collect as many as I can.I don’t know why but I have a feeling that I’d like most of them.5th avenue NYC is the first one I saw and my first and only Elizabeth arden right now ,I bought a 4.2oz for just 30$ and I believe I can call it a successful blindbuy though I can’t say I love it,not yet,it’s my first wearing but it definitely is pleasant, something I will probably wear a lot specially when I don’t know what to wear
I can see why it’s compared to armani lei, they share this powdery musky vanilla which is both cozy and clean but I see 5th avenue nyc as a safer choice because it lacks cold, soapyness of armani lei and is less powdery.to my nose it smells more similar to jil sandar jil,a lovely discontinued perfume which is a good news for jil lovers
5th avenue NYC isn’t exactly what I imagined by looking at it’s notes.vanilla, peach and blackcurrent may suggest a gourmand but it’s not a gourmand or a supersweet scent, not a fruity one either.well I can pickup something fruity here which is more like a mix of apple and just a hint of non-ripe peach, they give a fresh, almost crisp vibe to it’s opening but aren’t very strong and don’t last much in the front. it soon warms up to a creamy scent of non-foody vanilla, tonka,a hint of sandalwood rounding powdery musky florals.I can feel soft and beautiful flowers in it but it’s so well blended that I couldn’t say what’s exactly there before checking it’s pyramid.on me it’s not a peachy scent but I can’t call it a floral or a balsamic one either.it’s a nice blend of all of these so it appears as a safe perfume.you don’t need to be a floral lover,a fruity lover,a musk lover,a powder lover or a balsamic scents lover in order to like it though there’s traces of all the mentioned ones in it.it’s easy to wear year round, both days and evenings and it feels enough classy to be a good choice for grown up ladies too.it’s clean, smooth, comforting and classy,a highly versatile perfume and this is a big plus IMO.I can understand what some reviews mean by calling it’s drydown unisex but all in all it feels feminine, not an earth shattering one but has some sensuality to make it more than just a safe nice smell
I can’t judge it’s longevity yet but sillage seem to be moderate when first applied.it’s not a heavy Scent on me
All in all I believe it worthes it’s price and can make a good daily/office fume
I even like it’s bottle and I’d really love to collect all these sky scrapers
    ❤❤❤❤
    Edit:
except first minutes,it has soft to moderate sillage but it stays on my skin for ages!it stays on me like a soft skinscent for a whole day!
I know being longlasting is considered a plus but it prevents me from spraying an other perfume while no one can smell it on me.I wish it had better sillage or could be noticeable for more than an hour or two because it’s such a nice blend of fruits(apple and peach),flowers(jasmine and peony), musky vanilla and balmy woods. a good mixture of fresh, clean, powdery, warm and smooth notes.
I’m still happy to have it,I’m going to decant some in a little bottle so that I can respray every two hours
Highly recommended as a perfume for work place

I find this to be a dimmed version of Laguna from Salvador Dali. I’m not sure which. Maybe more of Laguna.
It’s good. I’m not sure if I personally like it, but it’s good.

Just got this as a blind buy from marshalls for about $15. And let me say it was a great blind buy. It’s such a soft pretty warm scent. I usually like warm fragrance for my house but not as a perfume. But this is so lovely. It’s warm and cozy and soft. It’s a very feminine sophisticated fragrance. It’s a whisper of scent. I love it.

  11. :

Sweet peach and creamy vanilla, not a very unique combination of notes. This is nothing extraordinary but it doesn’t mean it’s boring.
I bought a 75 ml bottle of this in a tax free shop because NYC is very feminine, warm, cozy and gently sensual.
Very nice for the cold season, especially evenings, but this can be worn in workplace too.
I’d say it’s a safe blind buy for someone who likes peach-vanilla scents.

UPDATE: I’ve been exposing myself to small amounts of this each evening, almost like shock therapy, and sometimes in contrast to another, heavier or sweeter fragrance on the other arm.
I can discern the citrus/fruit aspects a little better and longer now, and that’s great for me.
I tried layering it with different things a few times: an apple fragrance oil, a citrus cologne, Victoria Secret Wild Scarlet (synthetic-smelling, highly alcoholic apple EdT), Elizabeth Arden Green Tea & Lavender (not a great combo), and Donna Karan Be Delicious Eau So Intense (an okay combo though too aquatic in undertone, as that fragrance is on its own).
I think I’ll keep this in my wardrobe. It would be useful to smooth out and temper very harsh fragrances like that alcoholy VS above. If you don’t like cold or sharp or green fragrances as I do, NYC will add some subtle warmth, roundness or gold.
Well, I feel better. I just love training myself to appreciate something I first couldn’t tolerate.

Opportunistic blind buy (it was on the shelf and well-priced).
Not what I expected, generally for the better. It’s still not my style (vanilla-prominent, creamy and/or “golden” almost never is). But it’s not nearly as sweet or as warm as the (scary to me) accords at the top of the page predicted. Nor as obviously fruity. And another scary note, the Sandalwood, while discernible, is not suffocating.
The most enjoyable part for me is the opening, with its faint Citrus peel sort of sparkle. Sadly for me, the experience only gets goldener and creamier from that point.
Opening freshness aside, the overall impression this gives is of a champagne-colored, lightly whipped Vanilla cream with a very restrained, refined trace of Peach. It’s not too sweet and it’s quite airy; this won’t scare off gourmand-phobes with a terror of dense vanilla.
That said…where exactly are the florals alleged to constitute the heart/middle?? There’s a little bit of Jasmine (I guess) but it’s pretty much totally folded into the whipped cream without fanfare. I long for the Peony to come forward to freshen and cleanse me.
I feel this follows the general structure of Escada Magnetism with fresher citrus and fruit making a quick appearance up front but drying down almost completely to vanilla /Tonka and wood.
There’s a major difference, of course. If Magnetism is an oil painting rendered in very bold colors (magenta and orange of the box perhaps) and heavy strokes, Elizabeth Arden 5th Avenue NYC is pale creamy pastel neutrals gently buffed with a fluffy brush. It’s a champagne shimmer.
By the way, this wears close to my skin.
I’m undecided whether I should try to make this work in my wardrobe. After a few minutes, my nose cries out for something truly fresh, or at the least, juicy. I get thirsty and want to drink something crisp or sour. The fragrance really isn’t overly sweet or dessert-like; this is just my olfactory lot in life.
I imagine that people who profess to hate perfume would not object to getting up close and personal with you when you’re wearing this. I think they might enjoy basking in your soft, cuddly pale gold halo.
While it may not be for me, this is a respectable showing from the house of Elizabeth Arden. Well-blended, restrained and, possibly, likeable by the lucky few who are physically close enough to you to smell it.

A sweet, simple, light and cozy scent. I like it a lot,
sadly doesn’t last very long on me.
The interesting part is that, at first its very girly and cute, and after about 30 minutes its cozy and girly-womanly (?), and after 1 hour or so, when its almost gone on me,
it has turned into some uni-sex scent, and I wish that this part would be stronger and stay longer. This perfume confuses me in some ways but yet its so simple.

At first did not like it. I thought to give it away or sell it. It was like a dessert gone bad. Good thing I didn’t, because the second time I wore this, it was really good; peachy, vanilla goodness. Maybe first time was too hot or humid? Anyways, nice fume to wear to work or in a crowd since it wear close to the skin. And totally agree with takeasniff; Arden should release these flankers as new frags since they are way different fro the original (which I love).

This was all sorts of wrong on me, despite the description fitting my preferences perfectly. It smelled sharp and chemical, like bug spray or an industrial cleaning solution with scent added. It could be the result of the bergamot/apple/black currant combination, but I’m not sure. I never got any warmth, any balsamic quality, and certainly nothing powdery. By the time I finally washed it off, I could smell a faint, almost dusty yet coconutty, sandalwood note beneath the “mess” on my skin chemistry. I see it is compared to Armani Lei, which I know and like, but to me this was nothing similar at all. Definitely a personal skin chemistry issue for me!!

    soft fresh peach
    and creamy vanilla
    very very creamy
    warm and sweet
not too sweet just in perfect amount

but after I spayed it for 5-6 times i sold it
because it’s so inoffensive and lovely
    just not my type

It was the blind buy on a good deal (got 125ml for 18 Eur).
Love the smell, althougt it’s a bit too creamy for me. However, suits my mother well!

All of Elizabeth Arden are fantastic..The original 5th Avenue is adored by me and entire family. I gifted this to many people and everyone loved it. This one is no exception and I treasure it. The fact that you can find these hidden gems in the discount stores for less is also a gift in the U.S. which I so appreciate.

I wanted something a little different from my fragrance comfort zone (I have many sweet and fruity scents, many celebrity fragrances), I quite like this fragrance. It’s a light, fresh, floral, and easy to wear scent. I would recommend this to a young lady looking for a sophisticated fragrance.

  22. :

this on me is creamy & light, i get no flowers or peach though. that being said it is a lovely fragrance, its light but noticeable & as i said on me it feels creamy. i like it, doesn’t stay too long on me but while its there its pleasant

This is a strange perfume on me. I smell absolutely no flowers, only amber and sandlewood. I agree that this can easily pass as a unisex fragrance. To me there is something very “industrial” in this scent, something man made.
Despite this I would not call this fragrance synthetic, not in a bad way. This feels ultra modern to me, perfect for a corporate envioronment filled with strong, well educated classy ladies. I tend to wear this perfume when my confidence needs a little boost, personally this feels like an aura of iron armour that can protect me against even the harshest days.
I love the clean, minimalistic yet modern feeling that this fragrance evoke, one I will absolutely repurchase once I run out.

The musk and sandalwood remind me of VS Heavenly. I had that one on my wishlist but I removed it because this one comes so close! I don’t get much fruit here though.

This surprised me nicely. This smells brings me onto sunny beach full of laughter and play with after sunset warmth glow. To me it smells of sunshine, warm sand, sunbathing oils on hot bodies (a hint of coconut, not too much to be disliked by me), salty sea ( blackcurrant), ozonic wind mingled with jasmine-like flowers. The specific tonnes are not dominant but blended well to create this feeling. I think it’s thanks to blackcurrant note (which you have to dig it out) wrapped into jasmine oil it is felt to be more unisex. However, it is a perfect everyday smell with a difference and the longevity is very good.
PS. I’ve changed the pills and it changed my smell perception. I’ve lost sunshine smell, coconut… Blackcurrant has comes forward strongly at the beginning wrapping itself into white creamy soapy flowers. Not overly sweet, suitable for an everyday safe wear with a some class but no excitement. Classy, creamy soapy with good longevity.

Oh, dear. On my skin EA 5th Avenue NYC was synthetic from top to bottom except for the jasmine note, which lasted all of a New York minute. Even on super discount, not for me.

This is a Vanilla Amber perfume easily made for men!!!! Not even Unisex, but very very manly.
If you have ever smelled the deodorant for men ‘Axe’…. the ‘African’ scent one. The dry down is incredibly sweet spray deodorant for men.
    I do NOT like.

Gorgeous, Gorgeous, Gorgeous. I hope EA keeps this scent in their line. This juice smells like a sophisticated, classy woman with an edge. Perfect for the office. I am by nature very confident but I feel more so wearing this scent. It was a blind buy, but it turned out to be EXACTLY what I expected! I was never impressed with the original 5th Avenue regardless of the popularity… but the flankers After 5 and NYC are impressive. They smell more… modern. Good job EA!

On my skin NYC turns almost male’ish, I have a problem with sandalwood-notes, if they turn strong in a scent, they turn male’ish on me. This is a beautiful scent and I would call it uni-sex indeed. On me the sandalwood is loud, but there is also beautiful flowers and amber. Very longlasting.

Elizabeth Arden is an icon when it comes to cosmetics and perfumes. You may never have experienced one of their products before, but surely you’ve heard of any of them.
The 5th Avenue line was created after the release of the namesake fragrance, in 1996, with its bottle inspired by the distinct architecture of Manhattan, in New York. And in 2013, 17 years after the success of 5th Avenue, the company decided to launch a limited edition called 5th Avenue NYC, inspired by the modern and lush women that make New York so famous and unique, and who were well portrayed through the characters of the famous American TV series, Sex and the City.
It consists of output notes of bergamot, peach and Apple, bright as the city that never sleeps. In the heart of the fragrance, sensual floral notes of Peony, Jasmine Blooming Flower and plum blossom. The base was created to represent the trace of this woman, who needs to be agile in this town where everything happens so fast. It brings notes of vanilla, sandalwood, tonka bean, golden amber and musk.
On my skin the citrus tone was practically null. There is a small nuance of peach, but the story is told by the floral bouquet, which is divine!
After about 30 minutes, the base becomes stronger, the flowers start making room for a more sensual aroma, smooth as a velvet and sweet in the right measure. I still say more: even men who enjoy sweet scents can use this perfume. But for that, they need to apply it about 1 hour before leaving home.
Finally, the bottle kept the visual identity of the line, this time covered in black and gold, enhancing the fascination that black color has on women and their clothes.

  32. :

    3 out of 5

A crisp opening of bergamot and apple give this fragrance a zestiness and a top note sharpness that’s delightful. NYC begins to mellow with my chemistry into a delicious, warm, ambery feeling, vanilla-spiced, infused by the tonka beans to give it a creaminess that is luxurious and satisfying. It’s warm and salty to the scent, almost hypnotic with its musk, enveloping you in its embrace. A hint of buttery gourmand underlies this perfume, drawing you in, yet the scent of tea is strong and keeps NYC grounded. For me, this is a comforting scent, a relaxing, beautiful fragrance that’s sensual and can sit either close to the skin or just a little bit further, depending on how you spray. A decidedly segue into Fall scent with its crisper weather. Spray it on your pillows for a soothing slumber. This is a scent I rest my head on my arms to inhale deeply. It also reminds me of Anthropologie’s Hamarikyu’s Gardens. The bottle is tall and rectangular, reminding me of skyscrapers with helipads on top. Longevity about 2-3 hours with the EdP, lesser with the EdT. I really love this perfume, it’s very soothing and calming.

  33. :

    5 out of 5

I just got the 125 ml EdP as a gift. On me this has absolutely NOTHING fruity, juicy or citrus about it – it’s a straight up warm, balmy and powdery scent. I can only sense the amber, vanilla, sandalwood and perhaps the tonka bean. I’m trying this “out of season”, but I think I might pass my bottle on(I know the person who gave it to me won’t mind) to someone, perhaps of a more mature age, who might enjoy this type of scent more.

  34. :

    3 out of 5

Very mellow peachy/ambery / lightly floral / vanilla fragrance. On the glamorous side of everyday in style.
Safe and suitable for day or night. Doesn’t last that long on me, 3-4 hours. Doesn’t set the world of fragrance alight, but I’m really enjoying the aura of golden glow it creates around me.
Nice bottle, very smart. Good price too, bought 75ml for c. £19 (UK).

I tried this yesterday and it is a better effort compared to the Fifth Avenue Style which had a dishwashing liquid lemon note in it that I just could not come to terms with and a synthetic sweetness that amplified over time on my skin.
This one melds with my skin and nothing seems to screech or jolt me and no headaches. I did notice peach and the amber sweetens it without smelling too sweet and gourmand. It is bland like all the Elizabeth Arden perfumes but pleasant and if this style of perfume is your style then it is one of the better editions so far as it is blended a bit better. The previous ones always had something off putting to me personally and I noticed in reviews of them, often there was a note in the various editions that would ruin the perfume for quite a few people.
I think unfortunately it will be forgotten along with the other limited additions. The original 5Th Avenue seems to have enjoyed more success because all though some think it to be bland and too soapy it was a classy perfume at a budget price for it’s time when it was first released. These additions since then have tried to follow whatever trend is occurring in perfume at the time of their release but they wind up lining the shelves of discount stores because they are poorly marketed and get lost in the crowd amongst the louder celebrity promotions so not many people are aware of them and sharing the name 5Th Avenue puts people off because they assume it is the same perfume in a different bottle. Maybe they should be released as completely new perfumes because the more editions Arden releases the less related they are becoming to the original edition so it is a little disjointed in my opinion.
These would be suitable for people on a budget or younger girls and guys not sure what they like in perfume or only want to wear something inoffensive that is not a celebrity perfume. Unfortunately they can be difficult to obtain so that is turnoff for some people who do not trust ordering from the internet.

I bought this perfume yesterday, as a blind buy, and I can`t say that I`m disappointed.
The scent smells nearly identical as Viva La Juicy on me, a scent I really enjoy. Fruity, sweet, cosy and playful.
The only difference is that the EdT does not last as long as I like, but at 25 USD it`s totally worth it.
