Description
“The name of the fragrance, 1001, made me immediately think of the marvellous story that we all know and that continues to fascinate entire generations. I imagined a young woman, beautiful, strong, courageous, timeless if you like, and somehow the symbol of all today’s women, regardless of race or ethnic group. I wanted the ingredients I chose to recall the mystery of the Orient with its colours, aromas and flavours. The main player in this fragrance is Papyrus, the writing medium par excellence, since the dawn of civilisation and through to relatively recent times. The fragrance opens on a lively, bright note, with the fresh spices of elemi, fresh ginger and pink pepper interwoven with the juiciness of Red tea, reflecting the optimism and patience of this woman who tells wonderful stories, night after night. The middle accord releases carnal and feminine Rose, to which so many lines have been dedicated, its charisma the certain companion for writers from other times and places. I used Curcuma absolute that, together with Saffron, warms its sensual floral heart, evoking “Gold”, an intense colour used to embellish the writing. The words that Scheherazade reads fade against an indulgent base of patchouli, soft woods and voluptuous amber, amplifying the deliberately mysterious character of this fragrance” — Luca Maffei, perfumer.
“It is highly unlikely that we will ever physically meet our soulmate in the space of a lifetime, but thanks to art we can come into contact with those who have expressed themselves in a way that is familiar to us, creating an affinity that transcends the centuries.
A writer who lived a thousand years ago may communicate with us much better than family and friends we talk to every day. Artists speak to our soul, because they lay bare their own and pour it all into their work.
This is why reading is like magic. An emotion that has neither time nor place, immortalised in a word on the page and therefore ready to be enjoyed anywhere, anytime.
Writing and reading are gestures carried out by people who have the healthy desire to stand outside themselves, who are fascinated by learning about new realities and the fantastic journeys that our minds are taken on by authors, such as the progenitor of Italian writers, Dante Alighieri.
“The idea of 1001, the new fragrance from NOBILE 1942, says Stefania Giannino, Artistic Director for this Genovese brand, “is precisely this sense of continuity, of waiting, of seduction by words. Nobody gives a better idea of the power of seductive story-telling than Scheherazade, the heroine in Arabian Nights, who managed to enchant the man who wanted to kill her with her 1001 tales. It was this very book, which I adore and which I discovered in the original language during my studies of Arabic at L’Orientale university, that gave me the input for 1001” — press release of the brand. 1001 was launched in 2017.

Tumiric ginger on bed of sour tea.
At first I couldn’t recognise the tumiric till I saw the notes! As I normally white my reviews according to what I sniff before I see the notes. However, the first spray was kind of interesting as I could smell the 1001 nights somehow with that Arabian Sahara breeze as the ginger lime mix made sort of sapphron like smell with bit of tumiric and doses of tea.
I can’t really sniff niteher the Turkish roses nor the pink pepper and not even the vanilla as the Turkish rose is known for its sweetened taste and in here, there is no sweet and not even hints and at the same time it’s not that spicy.
Most probably I may can categorize it within tea category but not much tea are there! as the colder it goes the more confusing it gets! all the notes are there and at the same doses in away that i cant define which is conquering what! It’s not balanced but kind of a fading chaos! It almost vanishes but before it clears out it turns into an aqua blend! Sort of metallic but mostly aqua! And I have absolutely no idea what went wrong!
I’ll try it again some other time and I hope it’s not what I think!
Edit (8th Aug 2017) No not really, the turmeric, and ginger mix making this fragrance smell like a spice room rather than 1001 Arabian nights!
