Description

Chopard Happy Diamonds was launched in 1986. The creative director of the house, Caroline Scheufele, wanted to create a connection between a precious stone and a perfume. The refined mix of floral and oriental notes represents the diamond placed in 18-carat gold.

Top notes: bergamot, lemon, galbanum, fruity notes and orange blossom. Heart: ylang-ylang, rose, jasmine, carnation, iris, tuberose, heliotrope and sandalwood. Base: benzoin, tonka bean, vanilla, cedar, vetiver, amber and civet.

Finally this master piece is added to the perfume encyclopedia of fragrantica.. i added it to the missing perfumes over and over again.. for over 6 years.. and i am happy to see it here.. for it s really an important perfume in perfume history that deserves better recognition and praise..it wasn’t that popular maybe it was more of a niche at a time where niche didn’t really exist..
a beautiful perfume.. a well crafted perfume.. i had over 30 of those beautiful 30 ml splash bottles in the past 3 decades.. unfortunately they dont do them anymore.. for the past decade.. i dont usually regret gifting perfumes or using them for other blends.. but in this particular case i do regret giving them away ..and using them in my other blends like crazy..i stil have a couple sachet away.. but even having a hundred of them is not enough for me.. i love this perfume so much.. i never really had a signature.. maybe this is as close to a signature as i can get.. people know me by this scent.. before i come in a place or if i was in a place by this perfume ..its so me..its me in a bottle !!
as for the perfume profile.. it is a bright aldehid chypre type of musky frenchy retro floriental with lots of powdery undertones and a creamy almost intangible frenchy retro accord it smells like some of the carons like french canon mixed with amouage jubilation and caron montaigue with cartier must and so many other vintages..like madam rochas ..its like perfume history of master pieces combined together to recreate a new timeless ageless scent made of diamond dust !!(it doesn’t have diamond dust it has a tiny diamond inside the bottle )
in reality nothing compare to it.. the crystal bottle is to die for ..i have over 20 in my dresser some are filled with other mixes i made.. i can still smell it through my mixes this perfume was the epitome of beauty ..elegance ..class refinement.. opulence ..luxury ..in a simple straight forward manner.. it wasn’t so complex.. it wasn’t so dense it was light ..bright.. refreshing in a way.. it was a whiff of heaven ..a whiff of opulence ..in a mesmerizing sparkly.. translucent ..diamante way..
as if the diamond inside the bottle infused its everlasting sparkle from the endless rays and millennia it was created under ..in to the liquid that was called chopard happy diamond.. when i open the cap and smell the juice its as if i am transcendent in space and time ..as if a ray of sunshine and energy and trillions of light years were en posed upon me.. it feels like the entire universe was facing me.. and in a whiff i am taking a part of it in my own being.. it was so beautiful.. so in-explainable in human language ..it was a perfume that marked a place and time in my life.. i could only dream of.. it was dreams in a a bottle.. but as always beautiful things never last.. or change.. or cant be made the same anymore.. due to so many external forces.. i think the main ingredients like natural civet and many more of the more natural accords that made this a gem were banned and re creating it in a more synthetic or artificial way was only going to take from its beauty.. so i respect the house for not trying to ruin a beautiful master piece.. that truly marked a critical stage in my life ..some things are best left untouched and unchanged at least their beauty remains in our hearts and minds forever more..trying to recreate them will only take away from them !!..ten years this was my feel good.. feel elegant.. feel opulent.. scent it was in every other blend i made ..i am happy now that i have even if a drop from it in so many other blends ..and i wish i am able to retrieve the 30 plus bottles i gave as gifts.. yet i am happy to have made those people happy by having this magical perfume to me the perfume was more precious than the small diamond it carried within its golden liquid.. its memories and scent profile is engraved in my olfactory memory forever more ..the diamonds still remain ..but scent prevails.. and the happiness and joy i got from each splash or swipe of this golden liquid was like straight magic out of a bottle.. it was like a billion light rays.. filed with both the sun and the skies stars and the moons and the entire celestial spheres in a bottle ..imagine combining all this in a perfume !! this is how gorgeous and painfully beautiful this story was !!
will it ever be revived ?! will it ever come again?! no one knows but at least it left its beauty imprinted in my heart and sole and maybe its best left there !!
happy diamonds a perfect name for a truly happy perfume that infused happiness and joy for all those who were lucky to have smelt it and enjoyed its endless rays of sunshine opulence and luxurious femininity !!

I got a vintage pre barcoded bottle for a song, and couldn’t wait to test it. It is very strong, the initial blast gave me an immediate headache, but I’ve soldiered on. It is not unpleasant, just potent.Liquid luxury in its highest form and concentration, opulent and creamy right from the start. Despite some greenness trying to peak through, smells like the top notes are lost in my bottle, which considering its age is understandable. I can’t see myself wearing this very often, especially that it’s almost spring where I live now. This is definitely suited for cold weather, long nights and super special occasions. As an investment into my vintage collection- brilliant and worth getting to know.

At first sniff, I would never have guessed this perfume to be from 1986. Maybe 1966. It just seems a lot older than the typical 80s perfumes. I agree with kl99 that it’s an animalic perfume well suited for fur. I can feel a brief similarity to Bal a Versailles during the very first minute, but thankfully it passes (I’m not a big fan of BaV). Civet is still strong, but there’s a warm blend of tonka and benzoin, a little vanilla, and amber. Orange blossom is the most prominent flower note, but iris and heliotrope come through after maybe 10-15 minutes. Then the benzoin becomes smokier, and now I can feel that 80s vibe. I can agree with the comparison to Sonia Bogner Now (which, in my opinion, is a relative of Must de Cartier, Krazy Krizia and that gang). I find Happy Diamonds less smoky, though.
I think it’s definitely a winter scent – I get an image of my mum back in 1984, when she wore a cream white fur coat, high heeled boots, had Sue Ellen hair and smoked green Dunhill cigarettes. I don’t have any of those things, but I will happily wear this beauty anyway in the colder months.
The review is for the edp.

Le flacon me fait penser à Cabochard en version extrait.

The smell is super powdery, childish, green and gives me executive vibes due to organic and realistic ingredients. My bottles don’t have barcodes, look from very early production. The juice is of super high quality. It is a formal perfume (officially) ,but these kind of rules are dated now. If I will describe this perfume in one word, it will be “romantic”. I’m always fortunate to find big quantities of my “lost perfume treasures”, I own a big quantity that allows me to spray it generously, on myself and my surrounding atmosphere. Happy Diamonds now filling my living room and my bedroom and scenting my bed sheets.

This is a typical perfume for fur.
Classic heavy amber potent tuberose stunning orange blossoms, vanillin. Delicious.
    Very fifty style.
It is something between Bal à Versailles and Zibeline passing through Senso, very low reminiscence of l’Heure Bleau edp Shalimar edp.
